Steering Wheel Problems of Dodge Ram 1500

Tl- the contact owns a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500. While driving 55 mph there was a noise coming from underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnostic test stated the adjustment bolt for the tie rod clamp was missing. The dealer does not have the replacement parts#j0180077 in stock. The manufacturer was notified and referred her to two other dealers but the part was discontinued. The failure mileage was 261,862. Rvk.

I just bought the truck a week prior to the first time this happened. I hit a small bump in the road going about 55 mph. When I hit the bump the whole truck and the steering wheel began to violently shake. I could not control the truck. It felt like the front end of the truck had broken and was coming apart. I hit the breaks and it finally stopped shaking when I got down to about 30 mph. I pulled over and got out and looked around the truck, and I found nothing wrong with it so I slowly drove it back home. Had it looked at the next morning and was told since it had only done it once that I shouldnt worry about it. It has been about 3 weeks since the first time it happend, and it has done it 5 times now. I took it to the dealership where I bought it and let them look at it, and they said they could find nothing wrong that everything looked like it was supposed to. 2 of the 5 times it has happened on the interstate while I was going about 65-70 mph and had to slam on my breaks in traffic to slow it down to try to get it to stop before I lost control of the truck, almost causing the driver behind me to hit me. I have done alot of research on the issue and found that lots of people are having this same issue with the same trucks and they are calling it a "death wobble", yet nothing has been done about it? I am scared to drive my truck on the interstate now because im afraid that has the potential to cause serious damage to my vehicle and others on the road if I lose control of the truck when it starts the violent shaking. This is a very dangerous problem, and I feel like there should be something done about it ASAP.

On the day that we test drove the vehicle we noticed a clunking in the steering wheel and we informed the dealership. We were led to believe it was a small minor part , it wasn't untill after purchased the vehicle that we found out it was the steering column.

Vehicle was purchased in July of 96. In July of 97 a popping noise started coming out of the steering column. . The vehicle had 21,500 miles on it. My dealer replaced the steering column with a new one under warranty. July of 99 the steering column started making the same noise. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer again and I was told that the clock spring was bad. I had a new clock spring installed but this didnot correct the problem. The dealer refunded my money for the clock spring and the cost of the labor to install it. Front end of vehicle was disassembled to find out where the noise was coming from. I was told that the steering column had gone bad again. At this time the vehicle had 55984 miles on it and it is out of warranty. The new steering column lasted just a few days shy of two years and a little over 30,000 miles. The dealer said that since the vehicle is out of warranty, I'll have to pay the full repair bill to have the vehicle repaired. I called chryslers hot line number and explained to them that the new steering column shouldn't have gone out in only two years and 30,000 miles. They told me that as a good faith messure they would go 50-50 with me on the repair. This isn't right! no way should that part go out in two years. That means, if I keep the vehicle, every two years I'll be spending $500 for a new steering column.

While backing out of driveway the steering column began to make a popping sound and the whole thing just fell in consumer's lap. Dealer was contacted.
