The contact owns a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500. The contact stated that his vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign id number 05v462000 (power train:automatic transmission) and he did not believe that the failure was corrected. The dealer stated that the only resolution was a small computer-like device that sounded when the vehicle shifted out of park. The contact believed that mechanical repairs should have been made, especially for hearing-impaired consumers who could not hear the alarm. The purchase date was unknown. The current mileage was 92,000 and failure mileage was 80,156.
Vehicle type : 2005 Dodge 2500 diesel automatic transmission. Truck was recalled for a problem with transmission not going into park. The fix was to install an alarm that sounds the horn when the truck is in reverse, driver's door is open and the foot brake is released. This is the condition a truck driver would use when hooking up to a boat, utility trailer or a RV. This is not a fix for the real problem but generates more problems by making it very hard to look to the rear out of the door when backing up to make a hookup with out the horn sounding. It is causes a problem in camps sites and boat ramps where backing up and needing to look out the door for safety.

Consumer 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 slipped out of park in to reverse. The consumer stated the recall work had already been performed, however, the vehicle still slipped into reverse, the alarm did however activate, but it didn't warn the consumer before he exited the vehicle, which was suppose to activate once the consumer left the door open.
: the contact stated a recall remedy was performed. Nhtsa recall # 05v462000, regarding power train: automatic transmission. The remedy that was performed is a horn blowing alarm alerting the vehicle it is not in park. When the vehicle is in reverse and the driver's door is opened the horn blows to alert the driver. Also, when the vehicle is in park and the vehicle is exited, when it is put into reverse and the door is closed the alarm will sound until the vehicle is put back into the park position. Updated 06/12/06.
: the contact stated the vehicle gear shift position indicator was placed in park. After the contact exited the vehicle left the park position, without warning, resulting in the vehicle crashing into a tree and a rock wall. There were no injuries and the police were not alerted. There was property damage. Prior to the accident, the contact received NHTSA recall, #05v462000, concerning the automatic transmission. The recall remedy has not been performed, but the contact felt it should have also addressed the potential problem of the vehicle being out of gear. The recall remedy simply has the dealer install an out of park alarm.
: the contact stated while using the tow haul button, the button engaged into the wrong gear. This was especially hard to maneuver when declining and towing a trailer. The vehicle was speeding up instead of down shifting. It was taken to the dealer for inspection; however, the dealer determined the vehicle was designed that way and operated correctly.

On March 31, 2006 I stopped the 2004 Dodge 2500 ram 4x4 to pick up my mail. Prior exiting the vehicle I placed the shift lever into park believing it was in locked park condition. The vehicle was on level ground and not moving. Believing it was safe to exit the vehicle I exited on the drivers side leaving the drivers door open and walked approx. 30 feet in front of the vehicle( approx 15 t0 30 sec. ). All of sudden the vehicle started moving backwards at a high rate of speed. Concerned that other persons may be in the area I chased the vehicle down on a dead run. I attempted to enter the vehicle but was pulled down by the drivers door and hitting the back of my head on the pavement. I was temporally paralyzed and lost all limb movement. Unable to move I laid in the road and watched the front wheel roll passes my head. The vehicle was stopped by a drainage ditch without any damage. I however was not as fortunate and continue today to have multiple head, neck and memory related medical related problems resulting from the accident. I was not aware of a safety issue until receiving a recall notice dcc in Aug 2006. This is a very serious problem as the vehicle provides the driver with the false sense of safety when the vehicle is not in a safe mode.
2005 Dodge ram with diesel and automatic transmission. Received a recall notice March 28, 2006 that will add alarm function if driver door is opened, engine running and vehicle not in park. This is not a fix to a problem reported by others that the vehicle will inadvertently shift into reverse with the shifter indicating "park". If there is a problem with the shifter mechanism, it must be fixed. Many drivers backup the last foot or two with drivers door open when connecting truck to a trailer. The proposed fix in the recall makes the vehicle less usable. I would not have purchased this new truck if I had been aware of the "rube goldberg" bandaid patch rather than fixing the shifter problem. I would encourage NHTSA to disapprove the current recall and demand that the problem be solved with a functional shifter mechanism. I consider the fix proposed by the recall to be totally unacceptable and refuse to have it incorporated on my truck because it makes connecting to a trailer more difficult and time consuming. I have not had a problem with my truck but now always set the parking brake when getting out of the truck because of uncertainty of the shifter.
My 2500 Dodge ram diesel 2005 has a factory recall for not going all the way into park although seems as though it is in park. The dealership is too far away for me to drive there and they are not providing me with any assistance in getting my vehicle to the dealership to have this recall repaired. I have no means of getting my vehicle to the dealership for repair of this defect. I have noticed this problem with my vehicle before receiving the recall letter in the mail.
: the contact stated a NHTSA recall # 05v462000, concerning the automatic transmission was received. However the vehicle did not have the problem associated with the recall. The vehicle has not been taken to the dealership because the contact does not approve of the manufacturers remedy.
I own a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 XLT and on 03 25 06 I put my truck in park motor running to get a ice chest on patio. Turned right back around and truck was gone. It was backing up hill still in park. I ran hollering to keep someone from getting hit. A maintenance man of the park jumped in and pushed the brake down with his hand it was still in park. While I turned the key off. Well a 100 yards later the whole left side of the truck was damaged as it ran into a park model trailer and damaged the right side of the park model home if looking from front. It damaged the side panels of the trailer while putting a large hole in it along with the skirting. And possibly moving the trailer to the left. I believe that this is a serious problem and needs something done. It was a miracle no one was hit as we live in a very active 55 plus community and live on one of the busiest streets in the park. I have had my truck in several times to get the ac fixed and it still is not right. I don't know if I should keep the vehicle or sell it. I was never notified of the problem. I had it in the dealership and they said nothing about it. I feel I have a lemon. Dodge needs to acknowledge the defects in there vehicles and fix them before someone else gets hurt. Enough is enough. Thank you.
My 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 heavy duty pickup with an automatic transmission and diesel engine rolled backwards after being placed in "park". I left the vehicle to talk to someone. The indicator was in "p" before I left the vehicle and still in "p" after rolling backwards ~ 150' through 2 snow banks made by clearing the driveway. The pickup stopped upon hitting a sign which received minor damage; but the right rear pickup bed received ~ $450. 00 in damage. Nobody was in the vehicle at the time. Nobody was injured. The sign prevented the vehicle from crossing a busy street. I received the safety recall letter to install the "out of park alarm" on Monday following the accident on Thursday. I have contacted the local dealer to have the alarm installed.

2004 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel pickup truck came out of park and went into reverse while running and started across parking lot with no one in the vehicle. Vehicle almost ran me over when it went into reverse. I had gotten out to move a cart. Dealership contacted, appointment scheduled to repair problem. Vehicle had popped out of park twice (2) before with engine off. Dealership was advised of both incidents and advised there were no recalls/safety bulletins.
: the contact stated the vehicle rolled backwards on two separate occasions after the vehicle was placed in park with the engine on. There was a NHTSA recall, # 05v462000, regarding the automatic transmission. The vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however, it is not included in the recall due to the VIN.
The contact states there is a NHTSA recall campaign 05v462000 concerning the automatic transmission. This consumer experienced the same problems as indicated in the recall, but it is not included in the recall due to VIN. The vehicle has not been repaired. The vehicle was modified by the braun corporation. The vehicle was originally a Dodge, ram, 2500, and has been converted to a Dodge ram b 2500 van. Updated 01/04/06.
(1)I put the shift selector in 'park' got out of my truck, opened the tail gate started to unload cargo (2) the transmission shifted into reverse and the truck tried to run over me (3) I got out of the way and stopped the truck. It has happened many times since then but since I expect and anticipate the incident it is without consequence.
When truck was placed in "park" somehow it went into reverse and hit a post at the shopping center damaging the right side or the rear bumper. Also when truck is parked with engine idling there is a banging noise coming from underneath by the 4 wheel drive engage lever.
I purchased a 2005 Ram 2500 in July. I had a similar problem with mine jumping from park to reverse. No people were hurt, but it destroyed the entire side of my pickup. When it jumped from park to reverse the truck went across the street and hit another truck. This issue happened a few time before, but I was in the truck these times. I think Dodge has a serious problem to take care of before someone gets killed. Now my truck has been in the body shop longer than I got to drive it. Hope Dodge is going to take care of all of us. An independent investigator has looked at my truck and Chrysler is supposed to contact me with the results of his investigation.
Vehicle jumps into reverse while transmission indicator light indicates it is in park.
A few weeks ago we had to have the transmission "dropped" on our 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4. We bought this vehicle brand new last year so we were obviously surprised that we had to have something this extensive done so soon. My husband was leaving a house and put the truck in park to walk back and open the electronic gate. When he turned around the truck was rolling back at him. He managed to get his right leg up into the vehicle to try to reach up and put the truck in park. His leg was pinned between the door jamb and the electronic fence. Finally the fence gave way and collapsed. He was lucky that it did that or it would have cut his leg off at the knee. He was shocked at what happened. After seeing all the similar complaints on a website - and one death - I wanted to make my complaint also so that maybe Dodge will do something about it before more people get hurt. All I can think of is, "what if our 3 yr old had been there - she would be dead right now". I think it is unacceptable that Chrysler/Dodge knows of this problem but won't recall the vehicle. It is life-threatening. Please do something about it before more people are injured or killed.
The consumer stated that 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 went into reverse by itself. The truck was parked and was idling. The consumer left the truck with his grand child in the back asleep. The truck knocked itself into reverse and ran across a parking lot and hit a sign and crashed. After the truck hit the sign it stopped but was still running. Resulted in $7,200. 00 damage. The child was not hurt. The consumer left the truck in park and when he returned to the truck it was in reverse. And the child was still asleep. The child had not knocked the truck out of gear. A police report was taken gave no indication of the cause. The truck bent a water valve besides the sign with some property damage. The consumer was in shock over this incident. The consumer was contact by another car owner that faced a similar situation. The consumer had refectories of the accident. The consumer said that the truck is drivable and parked at his house. Someone from Dodge was suppose to come look at the truck.
Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 quad. While the vehicle was parked the contact noticed there was power steering coolant leaking underneath it. The transmission lines were cracked and needed to be replaced prior to repairing the vehicle. The computer in the transmission was reprogrammed. The vehicle was repaired. When truck is pulling camping trailer when weather is hot the transmission will not up shift until motor is at very high rpm getting on interstate highways. Making this very dangerous to do. Some times takes a 1/4 mile to get to 55 mph ig on small hill if big longer time and distance. I have 2001 2500 with v10 automatic.
Mr. Dennis shannon had parked his 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 and then exited the vehicle. The vehicle remained running during this period. As mr. Mr. Shannon suffered severe and fatal injuries. Mr. Shannon died on 7-22-2005.
The contact states there is NHTSA recall campaign 05v462000 concerning the automatic transmission. Just after the power train warrenty was up the trans started to slip. I check fluid. It was okay. Took it to the dealership and they rebuilt the trans at my cost of 2500. It still didn't shift right. The dealership told me it was fine. Last year I had to have the trans rebuilt again at 2500. It ran fine for exactly 12 months. The truck is currently in the shop again to have the trans rebuilt for the third time by a licenced facility. I had it fixed one time by a friend also. The trans shop will warrenty the labor this time but, they want over 1600 for parts. This truck was $40,000 and 2,500 per trans per year and the front end redone 3 times also. The engine is too heavy and powerful for the truck and trans. A fault by engineers at Chrysler should not be a constant head ache for myself and my wallet. I have replaced nearly every part on this truck x 3. The only good thing about this truck is the motor and it's because it's a cummins.
Contact stated her husband drove a pickup for beaver valley supply CO. Inc. While the truck was idling it jumped from park into reverse. It just shook terribly. While contact's husband was driving he parked the vehicle, left it idling, and left his wife in the truck. The truck jumped into reverse while idlining, resulting in a crash into a neighbor's fence. Contact talked to the dealer. They checked the truck, and it didn't show anything was wrong with it.
The contact owns a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500. In 2005, the contact's vehicle was repaired according to NHTSA campaign id number 05v462000 (powertrain: automatic transmission). The repair included a software modification to equip the vehicles with an out-of-park alarm; however, it has caused significant issues with the horn assembly in the vehicle. Every time he places the vehicle into park, the horn sounds loudly and causes chaos among himself and other drivers. The only way to prevent the horn from sounding is to slowly release the brake pedal, and then slowly shift the vehicle into park. The manufacturer did not provide any assistance. The current mileage was 50,000 and failure mileage was 4,000. Updated 05/20/08.
