Truck starts to shake violently when driving at 75 mph over, over passes and tends to loose control of steering. Has happend several times.
My 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 steering shudders uncontrolably when you hit a bump at highway speeds. Directional control is difficultwhile this is happening. The dealership says that one other customer is having the same problem. They thought that they had fixed it by replacing the steering dampener, but he had it happen again and spun out of control.
Power steering was defective when the vehicle was running. Steering wheel will not move. Dealer has replaced the power steering pump/hydro boost and two hoses. However, problem recurred. The consumer stated that the vehicle does not have any power steering when idleing and somtimes at low speeds. Steering box has been replaced but problem exists. Dealer will no longer service the vehicle for the same problem.

When towing vehicle has jumped from side to side, changing lanes, was uncontrollable. Has been to dealer twice. Dealer replaced front end and power steering. Did not remedy problem. It is hard to drive the vehicle straight but the cause was not still found.
I have had all kind of problems with the steering on this truck. It started at 6941 miles to much play in steering. A Dodge dealer in cricleville, ohio replaced the tie rod-drag link. It didn't help. I went back to the dealer at 16000 and asked him to drive the truck. We went down a stright road and I told him to watch his hands on the steering wheel. He was moving the wheel all the time to keep the truck between the line on the road. He said it was normal with the Dodge ram. I was mad when I left the dealer because I no better. At the time I worked for a semi truck manfacture, kenworth in chilliothe, ohio. When we would take these semis for test drives the steering was excellent. No play at all. At 22986miles I drove the truck to another dealer in columbus, ohio. Same problem but they inspected and replaced the steering column. No help. At 26046 miles took the to same dealer same problem replaced the steering column coupler and intermediate shaft. Also had a tran leak . Replaced transfer case output seal. No help. Same dealer at 29875 miles same problem but they adjusted pitman arm? and replaced rear axle housing seal. No help. At 33696 miles same problem but now I'm loosing power steering sitting still and another trans leak. Same dealer replaced output shaft seal, replaced steering coupler, adj pitman arm. No help at all!!!!!!!!!!! I got the guy who work on the truck and told him to look at the play on the steering wheel just sitting there. He said he called the tech line for Dodge and told me there is nothing they can do about it. I called Dodge that day told them what was goin on and they said they would keep it in there computers. Unbelievable!!!!! I called a dealer in mt. Steering ohio. Did not want anything to do with the truck. However I talked the service manger into putting a new power steering pump on my truck. He ordered a pump for a 2000 Dodge 2500 but when they went to put it on the shaft was different on that pump . I have a 2001 pump on a 2000 truck. *.
When starting vehicle in morning, there is no power assist. The vaccum system loses power overnight. Have to wait a while before restarting & to move. Took to dealer for repairs, but informed it was a design flaw & could not change or fix the problem.

There is to much play in the steering wheel, purchased truck new . Please describe .
Steering on this truck is loose. Took it to dealer and service writer said they changed the steering on the new trucks and it will never drive like my 199dodge 4x4 did. I have side to side play in the pitman arm that comes from the lower bearing in the steering box. Have talked to lots of other owners who have the same problem. I have had the truck to a front end shop and had the alignment checked and it meets factory specs. The truck likes to wander all over the road, steering feels dead in the middle and you can feel a funny bind in it when taking a curve on the interstate. It makes you over correct because you wonder if anything is connected to the sterring box or not. Towing a trailer makes it even worse. It is a diesel so I think you should be able to tow with it at least that is why I bought it. Thanks.
There is a loss of power steering when applying brakes at speeds lower than 20 mph which could cause loss of vehicle control. Dealer claims this is normal feature, and no solution is available.

While driving the vehicle's power steering failed without warning. Please provide any additional information.
Steering becomes almost impossible to turn when backing or moving forward slowly. It happens in cool to cold weather. Was told by dealer that factory says this is normal condition. This can create a hazard when turning a corner and steering won't turn.
It would be of great help to all year "2000 Dodge ram" buyers if the. No safety defect listed in the summary.
While driving on state highway and without warning power steering locked up, causing vehicle to stop in middle of traffic. Consumer states that the right front center bearings exploded, throwing the vehicle up and down.
