Steering Wheel Problems of Dodge Ram 2500

While traveling at interstate speeds (70+ mph), when vehicle encounters "rough road" conditions such as a sudden bump at the beginning and end of a bridge and/or rough spot in the road, vehicle begins shaking almost uncontrollably and will not cease until speed is reduced to below approximately 35 mph. Braking is also affected during this episode of malfunction.

Violent shaking in front end. . . Otherwise known as the "death wobble. " also has a clunk in steering wheel. Have replaced upper and lower ball joints, tie rods, and track bar. Have replaced tires, balanced, and rotate/balance ever 5000 miles. Issue still keeps occurring. Has occurred with two separate sets of tires(load e and load d)shop now saying to replace steering shaft, steering box, shocks, and steering stabilizer. Shop also says Dodge trucks are their best customers.

The first occurrence was at 20000 miles, (death wobble), it did not happen for another year. Since then it has gotten more frequent, virtually every time I get on the highway. I have upgraded steering linkage to 09'. ,new track bar, steering dampner , ball joints and also the gearbox frame brace w/pitnam arm bearing kit. I still have the death wobble. I now have around 58000 mi. I love my truck, just not the wobble, I would not feel right by selling it like this.

Steering has a considerable amount of play when in center position. The truck drifts from left to right making it hard and laborious to control. The dealership and Chrysler motors have had many chances to solve this issue but instead pass the problem back to me for resolution. (dot number: vnw81xl060 tiresize: 265/75r16).

When brakes are applied, the steering wheel locks up, several repair attempts however vehicle continues to experience lock up. Yh.

Upon purchasing vehicle and after accumulating 500 additional miles steering would make a tremendous grinding noise. Problem has progressed to turning either direction with same noise problem with additional popping. Dealership replaced steering column and shaft with no change in condition.

Steering column is loose. This causes the vehicle to veer out of control suddenly without warning, and the shifter does not slide into the gear properly. Dealer has been contacted.
