Dodge Ram 2500 owners have reported 403 problems related to steering tie rod assembly (under the steering category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The ball joints were replaced when I purchased the truck, the complete front tie rods as a kit were replaced this week now to get a wheel alignment I have to replace the lower intermediate shaft on the steering column? I went to Dodge and was told the steering shaft is available but would not work as I needed to replace the upper as well as it is no longer available that Dodge upgraded the item? the total cost would be $600+ for both? if the steering components for driving have been upgraded and the original is no longer made available why is this not a recall? if the u-joint fails the truck is going to be unsteer able? why was an upgrade done and no one informed? why does the cost go to me when I should be able to buy the oem section that was made in 2004? it is discontinued every where on line for purchase. There fore there is a defect or issue that has been identified and not shared with the public!.

The steering wheel is suddenly very loose and there is a clunk under the driver's side when I turn the wheel from right to left. This issue came out of nowhere. I do not drive the truck often and I did not notice any incidence of note; there was no time when I noticed a sudden bump or clunk in the steering wheel. It came on gradually, but rapidly. These symptoms seem to align with a prior recall on this vehicle concerning the left tie rod ball stud, which can fracture at low speeds without notice, rapidly becoming dangerous for the occupants of the vehicle as the steering wheel can become inoperable.
The passenger side tie rod fell apart. The ball separated from the body of the tie rod. This happened at low speed as I was veering to the right, resulting in a loss of steering. There were no warning signs that this was about to happen.
Truck continues to experience a "death wobble" issue even after replacing most of the suspension & steering parts and even adding aftermarket "stiffner" and "problem solver" components to the vehicle. Chrysler had a recall r16 which covered newer vehicles but should have been applied to these older models as well. The steering components and geometry were largely the same and there is a fundamental design flaw with the geometry of the suspension. Symptom: between the speeds of 45 & 70mph, hitting a large pothole or a bridge seam the vehicle will suddenly develop a violent shaking in the front end. This has caused me to almost crash a number of times since I last filed a complaint on this same vehicle a number of years ago. It is difficult to replicate the problem and when it occurs it occurs rapidly and unexpectedly. It is very difficult to control the vehicle when it occurs and applying the brakes to significantly and quickly reduce the vehicles speed is the only way to halt the vibration. I have almost caused several accidents trying to quickly stop the vehicle or to keep it from entering other lanes during the vibration. The geometry issue is that the vehicle creates a "toed out" condition when the suspension suddenly collapses from a bump. As the vehicle suspension returns to the normal state it also returns back to the "aligned" position but energy built up and stored in the characteristics of the steering components (steel steering bars & any movement in the tie rods) act like a spring causing the alignment to go past the "toed in" position which then repeats itself in reverse. The result is a continual vibration of the front end until the driving conditions change (I. E. Mashing on the brakes to stop the vehicle). Google "Dodge ram death wobble" and you will see numerous other people with the same issue.
Van frame is rusting out, steering box that is mounted to frame is likely to fall off soon. Tie rod to frame connection also is rusting out. To my knowledge and after research on the internet, there is no reasonable fix.

Took vehicle into jacksons of enid, 4405 w owen garriott rd, enid, ok 73703 on 4/27/17 for safety recall related work on passenger air bag inflator and outer tie rod assembly. Air bag light was coming on sporadically and increasingly often. Work performed, if any, by jacksons of enid did not solve the problem. Air bag light came on within a mile of the business and continues at various speeds and for longer periods of time. Outer tie rod assembly??? can't tell. . What am I supposed to do? wait until the airbag inflates while I am driving, possibly injuring myself or others? or maybe lose a front wheel? this is not the only disturbing encounter that I have experienced at this business. Call me ((580) 984-1200). I do not trust jacksons of enid and they are the only game in town. Tried to contact bbb, but they are not bbb affiliated. Go figure.
My front left tie rod in my truck broke causing extensive damage. It punctured a tire in the sidewalk which is not repairable , cracked a wheel which they do not make anymore so need to replace 4 to match and bent or broke every single component in the steering linkage setup. I have made numerous attempts for some help and have gotten none. I have sent multiple emails with no replies, tried the chat system on the mopar site and the person (alex av1129 employee number) was if no help either. I have purchased a steering linkage setup from les schwab for $649 before I knew this was a past recall issue. I never got any notification for the recall or did I get offered the buyback option. I also called mccord Dodge in longview washington explaining my issue and was told by a lavonya in the recall dept there's nothing she can do this is an issue between you and Chrysler not you and mccords. I also asked lavonya my address on file and she read it exactly and I received no notification from them either. She was quite rude. She told me most people do routine maintenance at mccords and they find out these issues. I let her know I do my own maintenance and am not required to do business with them since my warranty has expired please help thanks kirc mattinen 22528 nelson hill ln clatskanie or 97016 (503)728-9396 kircmattinen@gmail. When I was driving down a mountain, the tie rod separated from the passenger side tire. I was travelling 35 mph down a windy road. The ball bearing that holds them together failed. As I understand, this was the subject of NHTSA recall number 13v-528. However, this only covers the right left side of he vehicle. Its ridiculous that it does not cover the other side, as the same failure happened. My truck has 136,000 miles on it. This is a danger and must be addressed by Dodge. I will be able to upload a photo tomorrow of the damage.
Both axle joints bad. All four tie rods have "play" in them. Ball joints are worn out. Had right side tie rod end pop out while traveling down highway. 2015 rotors are heat cracked. Presently headlights are burning out after one month replacement. Presently control panel led lights for heating are out. 2009.
The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500. While the vehicle was being reversed, the front passenger side tie rod ball stud fractured. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired. The vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 09e001000 (steering). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 129,900.
The tie rod busted multiple times on the truck while turning the steering linkage wobbled to be replaced multiple times I repaired twice and went through all the protocol for reimbursement documents visits to dealership confirmed parts with reimbursement dept spent my lunch breaks day after day being put on hold told I would get call back over and over what is next step right is right and I am very right to be disappointed in the safety of my truck.
Two years ago, while driving at low speed on a city street, the right tie-rod ball joint broke and the tie rod dropped and wedged into the right front tire. Brought me to an abrupt stop and swerved the truck into the curb. At the time, I was not aware of a recall. I fixed it. Since then, the front transmission blew up. I replaced the whole front end. The right tie-rod broke on the new front end. I fixed it again. The other day, the right wheel bearing seized and the brakes failed. I was travelling at 65 mph towing a flatbed trailer. Bringing it to a stop provided me with some maalox moments. I've had enough and am getting rid of this truck before it kills me.
The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Ram 2500. While driving approximately 30 mph, the front passinger side tie rod suddenly fractured and the vehicle became very difficult to steer. The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500. While driving approximately 70 mph, the steering wheel and front end of the vehicle shook severely. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the driver side tie rod was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 119,000.
At 138916 mile took vehicle in for warranty recall n62 left outer tie rod assemble , since that time have had six instances of uncontrolled sever and dangerous vibrations almost to the point of losing control at highway speeds of 60-70mph. The most recent occurrence was yesterday while making a left hand curve at 60mph; vehicle not has approximately 141,000 miles.
Vehicle wanders when driving had 2 front end alignments and tires balanced has not corrected problem. Had it reinspected and left tie rod end worn. Was told it does not come under recall for steering linkage.

I have a 2008 Dodge Ram 2500 and have experienced problems with my steering components, as described by the ongoing death wobble situation. I have replaced the rh tie rod end myself as when I've contacted the dealers previously, they weren't sure if the rh side would be recalled. Later I've received notices for the n62 recall, for the lh side tie rod end. I have called and called the dealer and they have repeatedly said that parts were not available. Now the truck only has 58,5xx miles on it and the lh tie rod end is about to snap in half. The truck has a very bad noise up front and if around 50 mph, you hit a bump, it goes into a death wobble scenario. I have just replaced the front axle u-joints, another common front end problem with these trucks. I am very tired of these issues. With the news of the buyback, I have called Chrysler and they have said that my truck does not qualify. I assume that is the case because my truck is unrepaired, but under 13v-528, and not 13v-529? but looking at document rcmn-13v529-4092, it states that the same parts will be used for recalls n62 and n49. So why is my truck not included?.

The vehical was being reapired at a dealer and it has been in 3 times to 3 diffent dealers to fix a check gauge light and they have not been able to reapir it. I also boguht in for the tie rod recall inspection and was told the vehical did not have a defective part. I dont belive them since they have not been a honest dealer. The truck is part of the main recall but I was told though Dodge that its not being covered because they fixed the truck which I dont believe happened. I dont feel safe driving the truck with all the issues with Dodge. I also just had the turbo replaced and now im getting desiel fumes coming into the truck. Dodge is not willing and will not work with me to get these issues resloved.
Deathwobble, traveling down interstate and hit a bump, the truck started shaking so violently and getting progressively worse. The only way to get it to stop was to hit the brakes and slow down very fast. With 18 wheelers all over the road when it happened I was almost rear ended on the interstate. I have never been so terrified of driving a vehicle in my life! my family was with me. Dodge has come out with an "upgrade kit and new heavier duty steering box" hmmmm. . . Wonder why? because they are completely aware of the issue and there is no quick fix. I am told I need to replace ball joints, tie rods, steering box, steering stabilizer and get stiffer shocks and or springs. Meanwhile, $5000. 00 later, it may work? maybe?.
I was traveling over railroad tracks on the 18 April 2015, Saturday when the rh steering drag link failed at the ball joint. The failure occur to the grease-able ball joint that connects to the lower a-frame of the rh passenger wheel. If I was traveling any faster than 30 miles an hour when this occurred. I would have lost total control and had an accident with the possibility of injuries occurring. I was able to slow the vehicle down with light touches of the brake pedal and turn to the shoulder of the road and safely stop the truck. The rh front tire was pointed to the left and slightly tuck under the wheel well so it was sliding the passenger tire as I maneuvered off the road. The above components where replaced along with the upper and lower ball joints and the lh tie rod assembly with all new components. I did have my vehicle inspected by the dealer for the n62 NHTSA 13v-528 for the lh tie road failures that Chrysler ordered; on the 14 of Jan 2014 and the dealer said that this recall did not pertain to my vehicle.
Driving down the road at 65 mph pulling and the right tie rod came apart and we headed into oncoming traffic. We were able to pull over without an accident. The Dodge dealer told us that the left tie rod in trucks of our same year and model were under recall, but not ours. We had to repair it on our own. The left tie rod is now bad on ours but lucky we were told about it during a tire rotation. Dodge says that our truck isn't covered even though the same year and model trucks are.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500. The contact stated that the steering wheel failed and became loose while driving. The vehicle was towed to the local mechanic who located a failure at the steering tie rod assembly. The steering tie road assembly was replaced. Prior to the failure, the contact received a notice for NHTSA campaign number: 13v528000 (steering); however, the part was not available for the repair. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 266,759.
I contacted Dodge dealer in April of 2015 to inspect tie rod end steering linkage. They informed me that they can not get the parts, it's going on a year now. I contacted Chrysler about this and they informed me that the dealership has the parts. How am I supposed to get this recall addressed?.
This truck started experiencing reverberation/wobble/bounce/shake after hitting a series of small bumps or pothole w/ one front tire. The wobble shakes the truck so hard that pieces of the interior break/fall off and the driver completely loses control of the steering of the vehicle. This began happening very intermittently (conditions/bumps/speed must be just right) this spring (2015) soon after we took the truck in for the recall on the driver's side tie rod linkage (they also told us the ball joint needed to be replaced). Since the dealership did not seem knowledgeable about our problem, we took the truck to multiple private repair shops during the summer trying to fix this intermittent, difficult-to-duplicate problem. We have replaced every part of the steering and suspension that had any "play" or wear including a ball joint, tie rods, control arm, pittman arm, steering stabilizer, heavy-duty shock for steering stabilizer, front shocks, various bushings, and steering gear box tightening . We even replaced the tires and wheels in case there was a mild warp/lack of balance. We have spent around $5000, but the truck is still not fixed. A search on youtube revealed that we are part of a large group of Dodge truck owners experiencing what is coined "the death wobble. " when the July 26 NHTSA press release came out, we were overjoyed! our apparently unfixable truck would be "bought back!" I was informed by chrystler that this is not the case. Since we "fixed" the recalled tie rod linkage (that would be the recall that led to all of these problems), our truck is not eligible for the buy back. I believe that chrystler not only knows that this problem is inherent in the design of these trucks (they changed the front end on 2014/15 models), but that they are shirking their buy-back responsibility. This truck is unsafe in its "fixed" state. How should we proceed?.
Steering linkage fell off. Did get a recall on the steering linkage, but when I took it to the dealership a year or two before this they told me I didn't have the defective parts and therefore would not replace these parts. Then not 6 months later was my first incident with the steering linkage just falling off, good thing it didn't happen when I was going 50 mph I just was at a stop. Obviously my truck should have been included in the recall. I have replaced the tie rod ends, but the truck still does not drive right, and it only has 60k miles on it. Thanks.
Inspection revealed excessive play in the left front outer tie rod end. Recommendation made to replace the front tie rod assembly.
Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Dodge Ram 2500. The contact stated that while doing a routine inspection at the dealer, the technician diagnosed that the front tie rod end and steering shocks needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 13v528000 (steering). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 66,721. Pam.
