Dodge Ram 2500 owners have reported 24 problems related to steering wheel vibrate (under the steering category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
During highway driving 60mph my truck developed "death wobble" the steering wheel was shaking violently side to side, I was unable to gain control until the truck was below 15mph. This happened several occasions thereafter anywhere from 40-65mph. I took the truck to the dealership, which determined everything was fine as far as recall concerns go, I explained that there was something wrong weather it was recall or not, and I wish to have it fixed. They expressed the truck was fine and refused to look further into it. There was a recall on the front end steering linkage which they also stated was not a problem. The "death wobble" returned on several occasions until from 12-4-17 to about 2-10-2017 when it caused me to leave the road pulling a trailer nearly crashing into a bridge support. After giving up on the dealer I investigated myself and found that the front end traction bar link was bad, this allowed the axle to move side to side. With the steering mounted to the frame, and the axle moving this caused the steering drag link to violently push/pull on the steering causing the potential deadly condition essentially the steering was steering left and right without my control. After replacing the traction bar and front end linkage the truck performed as it should with no further issues, this is a problem that is extremely common among ram owners of 2002-20010 trucks. Check out "Dodge ram death wobble" on youtube it is a problem that Dodge ignores, and when reported isn't aware on how to fix. It occurred on all road types and usually started at a bump or pot hole. Here's a link of many with the exact same problem. . Read more...

While driving at about 55 mph, I hit a minor bump in the freeway and the truck started shaking violently, steering wheel shaking side to side. The only way it stopped was I had to reduce my speed to complete stop , the problem was I was towing a 16' trailer with a 4000 lb load on it, I was in front of a semi truck with a full load, it was a very scary and dangerous situation. . It happen again while driving at about 65 mph on freeway next day without the trailer I hit a minor bump in the roadway and the truck started shaking violently. The only way it stopped was I had to reduce my speed and stop. I think this problem should be investigated as some one is going to get killed by this happening to them.

I hit a medium size bump in a construction zone on I-70 east in ohio and the steering wheel started shaking violently from side to side, the truck was shaking violently and I had to drop speed from 55 to 30 to regain control of the steering wheel, I almost caused an accident next to me and from behind. I am an active ohio firefighter and ex-ohio law enforcement officer, this problem needs to be addressed by Dodge. I just came back from getting repairs on a recall for the tie rod assembly at thomas Chrysler in st. Clairsville ohio. Someone is going to die with this problem and that's to high of a price to pay to resolve this problem. Please have this investigsted.
Driving at a speed over 55 mph and hitting a bump or pot hole my truck starts to shake and my steering wheel shakes back and forth very fast and uncontrollable untill I slow down below 35 mph. I have heard this called the death wobble and I see how it got its name, if a solution isn't found soon one of these times I may not be able to slow down safely and kill some one in an accident or myself.

On my way to york, PA a second "death wobble" occurred. This time on I 83. Speed limit is 65 mph. I drove over a couple of bumps in the road and my steering wheel was shaking violently as well as the truck bouncing all over the road like a jumping jack. An 18 wheeler was behind me at the time and almost rear-ended me as a result. I had to slow down to almost nothing to get it to stop and was forced into the shoulder. This is the time this happened to me today and the fourth time in one week! there is a serious problem with this truck as I have seen numerous complaints online about this exact same thing occuring to this vehicle.

I was driving my 2004 Dodge 2500 4x4 diesel pickup at 40-45 mph. As I was going into a curve in the road, I drove over a rough part in the road and the steering wheel started shaking violently back and forth (left and right). It was very hard to control the vehicle, I nearly crashed into a car on one side of me and a bridge railing on the other side. I thought maybe one of the front wheels was coming off the axle or I had a blowout. I slowed down and finally got the vehicle under control. I took it to a diesel repair shop immediately after this happened and they found the steering stabilizer shock leaking, the outer tie rod at the drag link and inner tie rod had some play, and both upper ball joints had some play. They replaced the steering stabilizer shock, the right inner tie rod, and the right outer tie rod. These repairs came to close to $400. They mentioned the "death wobble" problem and suggested we might add additional aftermarket parts to the front suspension to prevent this from happening again. The shop could not do the work right then or I would have had it done. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle now; it took all my driving experience and strength to get control of the vehicle, I do not think a weaker or inexperienced driver could have kept the vehicle from crashing. After looking at all the evidence of this "death wobble" problem on the internet, I cannot believe that the problem has not been solved and the vehicles recalled. People could die and or be injured and probably already have. The accident would probably be blamed on driver error with broken parts blamed on the accident instead of on the broken parts causing the accident.
I was I-77 in wv and hit a bridge expansion joint at approx. 70 m. P. H. The truck front suspension began to shake violently. The front tires and steering wheel began to shake/bounce uncontrollably. It did this for aprox 20 sec. While I tried to stop the truck slowly and safely. Internet research revealed this is a common problem with Dodge 2500 pickups. It has been given the name ã‚death wobbleã‚쳜. I returned it to the dealer where they deny any knowledge of the problem and after inspection determined that the incident busted both front shocks and stabilizer bar. It was not covered by factory or extended warranty. I had 2 new shocks & stabilizer installed and the front end re-inspected and serviced, lined and balanced the tires as directed by dealer insp. Results. I drove less than 10 miles and the truck done the ã‚death wobbleã‚쳜 again. They now suggest the tracking bar failure but state that the whole front suspension may be damaged due to a poor design and the violent vibration that occurred during the incidents. Again the warranties are refusing coverage. The techs refused to release the truck back to me to drive for safety reasons. They feel it is not safe to operate in this condition. This truck remains in stock condition. Installing 285/70/16 tires 10 ply tires for safety concerns. The stock tires were too small for an 8000 lbs. Pickup that tows occasionally. Due to the seriously neglected safety concern by Dodge, I will be trading this truck off when I get it fixed. Dodge knows there is problems please ã‚step upã‚쳜 and make them address this issue before someone get hurt or killed.

On 9-10-11 I was driving my Dodge Ram 2500 on the same road as I always do and the steering wheel started shaking violently and I used up 2 lanes to get it under control. It will stop when the speed is about 45mph. I have replaced all the steering linkages with new. (Dodge sells a 2009 upgraded steering system for this truck) installed new trac bar bushings, (originals were ok) installed new steering stabilizer, gear box bearing and had it aligned by the local Dodge dealer. It is now not drivable as the "death wobble" is more frequent than ever. I now have a truck I cannot drive or sell and Dodge will not listen. I have been driving for 33 years and have never experienced such a violent shaking and loss of control. Your my only hope!.
I was driving my 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 on the freeway at about 55 mph when the wheel hit a pot hole. At that moment the steering wheel began to shake uncontrolably. I immediately slowed down and the shake stopped. After that inncodent I really started to pay attention and it does it from 55 mph and up. I have tried to have the issue corrected but nothing seems to fix the problem. It is very unsafe to drive my vehicle.
I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 I have had two different incidents of the steering wheel violent shaking while on the highway. I was very scared and pulled over immediately. When I reluctantly returned to the interstate the truck drove normal. This is a huge hazard to me and other drivers on the road. This needs to be address immediately.
The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Ram 2500. While driving 45 mph the steering wheel was shaking and there was also a loud popping noise. During low speeds there was also erratic gears down shifting. The vehicle had to be driven onto the emergency lane in order to reset itself. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified. The failure mileage was 50,000. The current mileage was 67,000.
Dodge 2007, model 2500 turbo diesel crew cab, with approximately 20,500 miles. At 55 mph, a sudden bump caused by a freeway expansion joint resulted in severe steering wheel shaking with front end of truck going out of control. I regained control through gentle braking. Initially I believed the issue to be with the road, however, fifteen minutes later at 55 mph, and hitting a hard bump the steering violently shook again, while the front end jumped up and down and left and right. I lost control of the truck exiting the paved surface and came to rest in the barrow pit. Both incidents were on paved freeway (interstate 215 and interstate 80 in utah). I'm lucky to be alive narrowly as I narrowly missed a tractor trailor. I had just purchased this truck from henry day Ford of west valley city, utah. They certified the used truck with a full inspection of the steering system. Apparently, a known issue with a "recall" for steering linkage (safety recall h46-mopar steering linkage). Recall was complied with during September 2009. Problem obviously still exists even after recall compliance.
My 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 will shake violently and possibly go out of control if I hit a bump above 40 mph. This condition is called "death wobble" and has been shown to be on may trucks. It has happened more than 20 times and must slow to 25 mph to make the steering wheel stop shaking. This is a very dangerous situation and could cause the truck to go out of control if I don't slow down at an emergency rate.
While driving over a flyover (onramp) to get onto I-40 my 2005 Dodge 3/4ton truck hit a bump and the front end starting jumping all over the road, the steering wheel started shaking violently. I almost went into the cement wall which could have resulted in a accident and possibly severe injury. This has happened twice since the first incident. This is a real safety concern for me and possibly other drivers on the road.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500. While driving 60 mph, the contact struck a crack in the middle of the road. The steering wheel began to shake and the mirrors cracked. In addition, the contact lost control of the steering wheel. She took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that there was no failure with the vehicle. The contact changed the tires and repaired the front end, but the failure persists. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 75,000.
My 96 Ram 2500 has a major steering/handling problem at or about any high speed if I hit any potholes, rough spots, or if I turn my steering wheel to the left for a prolong period of time my steering wheel starts shaking like I have blown a tire violently shaking/hopping so erratic that it shakes a 20 lb backpack off of my passengers seat and on to the floorboard. I have to bring the truck to an immediate stop to elevate the problem. This works until the next bump or rough spot in the road. The other day my girlfriends brother was following me in my 98 taurus and said that he thought for sure I was going to roll or lose control. He stated that my front wheels were shaking violently left to right although I was in a straight on my steering wheel. I have had the truck in the shop several times 1. Converse county motors, douglas, wyoming. The mechanic stated that the track bar was faulty so it was replaced by the next shop listed below. Amount spent at this shop with being an employee was $40. 00 labor and $214. 19 for a complete replaced front driveline. 2. Ok wrecking, douglas, wyoming- I have taken the truck to this shop after replacing the steering stabilizer shock, passenger side tie rod, front shocks, and front brakes. They replaced track bar and front brake lines. Total spent this repair $432. 60 they notified me that the front end components were now tight and it shouldn't do it anymore no such luck!!
to my dismay I still can't get this problem resolved I have heard about this problem quite frequently
NHTSA please come drive my truck and you will be shocked at this problem!!!! major safety problem with steering and handling!!!.
