We feel that the rear -end problem that we are experiencing is a factory defect, and would like to be reimbursed for the expenses incurred for repair of the truck. In October 2007, we reported that we were having problems to tempe Dodge. We said that we had a leak of some kind and that the rear end was having a foul odor. They kept the truck in the shop at the Dodge dealership to make repairs. We got the truck back and less than 2 days later, the axle twisted off of the truck while we were driving down highway 8 going to texas! we had to be towed back to tempe Dodge. They fixed the truck again. Now, here it is only a few months later, may 30, 2008 and we are experiencing problems again and the truck is back in the tempe Dodge shop for another problem with the rear-end. This time it is growling like we have a tiger under the vehicle. We spoke to several people with the same model and year trucks and they have also experienced the same problems. One lady across the street from us said that her axle broke off too. So, we need your advice and help! why haven't you recalled the 2002 Dodge 2500 diesel if it is having so much trouble with the rear-end, and why should I have to pay the bill if the problems are because it wasn't made correctly? we are now waiting to hear from tempe Dodge about our truck, but we are now retired and will not have the money again to pay another $ 4,100 more dollars to fix the same problem. Can you please advise us as to what to do? I feel it is a manufacturer problem and that Dodge should pay for the work done on the truck, plus we should be reimbursed the $ 4,100, already spent when the problem was never really fixed! fortunately for us no one was hurt when the axle broke. I felt the truck engine stop working, and my wife said, "stop the truck immediately, something is wrong. " we immediately stopped, got out of the truck and the wheel was hanging on by a thread of metal. We thanked the lord for saving our lives.

We have had our 2004 Dodge truck for almost 3 years and have loved it - however, within the last 2 weeks we are very concerned about the safety of the truck we are driving. While traveling 80 mph down the freeway our truck started vibrating / shaking uncontrollably. We were unable to steer the truck and were drifting into the other lane of traffic - if I applied the brakes it only intensified the vibrations of the truck. We were finally able to get the truck into the emergency lane (luckily without causing any accidents) and had to wait until the truck reached below 45 mph before the vibrations stopped. Had we stomped on the brakes - the truck most likely would have rolled. Unbelievably, when we called the dealer they knew about this problem. They assumed that we had a leveling kit on the truck, which we do not. They have indicated that daimler Chrysler has even issued a service bulletin on how to fix the problem, which could lead to be very expensive, depending on how many steps we have to take to fix the problem. The first step is having the alignment adjusted to a different specification - this is $90. 00. I am concerned about the cost of repairs, but even more concerned about the safety of my family while traveling in the truck. This is my first step to get attention to this problem - this needs to be seriously looked into and a recall sent out to have the problem fixed.
Very noticeable vibration in driveline. I could feel it mostly at higher speeds between 60 mph-90mph. Noticed it right after I bought it. Took it back to the dealer several times and they advised "cannot duplicate customer concern". After 3 attempts to let Dodge techs identify the problem with no success I had the assistant service manager morry at norm reeves Dodge of temecula CA. Ride with me. Amazingly with me in the truck morry was able to feel the vibration. He told me,"I've driven about 25 of theses trucks and they all do that". I said, "nice, that says a lot about Dodge quality. " the Dodge tech took another look at it and again put down on paper"cannot duplicate customer concern". Frustrated, I attempted to solve the problem on my own realizing a Dodge technician would probably never do so. I took the truck to a driveline shop that norm reeves Dodge uses. They told me the driveshaft was out of balance and rebalanced it. It did not make the problem better. It actually made it worse. I had them remove the new weights they added which put it back to the way it was. The problem is back the way it was when I bought it. However, my wallet is a $100 lighter. Mcpeek Dodge in anaheim CA. Immediately found the problem and advised me Dodge is currently working on a fix for the truck but at this time there is no fix. They acknowledged this is a common problem. I also have had a burning oil smell in the cab while idling. The dealership advised me it was new engine packaging oil burning off. I have 9000 miles on truck now and no longer smell burning oil. My truck is a 2500 quadcab 4x4 short bed with the cummins ho 600.
