Ford Edge owners have reported 534 problems related to exterior lighting (under the exterior lighting category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Ford Edge based on all problems reported for the Edge.
Severe constant moisture condensation build up inside rear light bar and rear side lights. The moisture is inside all clear plastic covers and some of the red inner plastic (which is underneath the clear plastic cover). It is available for inspection. This is causing a safety hazard due to reduced and dim light visibility. The constant moisture causes an increased risk of break lighting shortage, failure of lighting electrical system or the lights shutting off. With the reduced rear lighting visibility and risk possibility of rear lighting failure there is an increased risk of a crash. The dealer, I purchased the vehicle used from, tried taking it apart and drying the moisture but it came right back the next day. The vehicle has been seen at an auto garage. It is unkown if there has been warning lights or signals since I recently purchased it from the dealer who had it one month prior.

The hazard lights will turn on while driving, and or while the vehicle is parked, thus draining the battery. The button to turn them on and or off is a "pressure sensitive" button which fails from the swelling of heat and or moisture. This is a major issue as the vehicle can't be driven now since the hazards just turn on and off.

Driving home from work, I noticed a warning light indicating that the car was overheating. I stopped and realized the coolant tank was empty, so I immediately put some coolant in and continued driving home. The next day, the car wouldn't start, and after I checked the engine oil, it was contaminated with water. I called a Ford dealer for repair, and they don't want to take responsibility.

Driving on the highway at night when suddenly the door alarm rings, dome light turned on causing driver to lose focus/control. Was driving at 60mph when the sensor faulted. The alarm/notification turns on at random times causing the vehicle to have the light stay on and drain battery. This is causing the driver unsure if the door is properly closed and risking the door opening in case of an accident. Problem has persisted.

Prior to taking delivery of this car (new, March 2017) the selling dealer replaced the tail/back-up light assembly on the tailgate because it had moisture in it. After I had the car for about 3 months the moisture came back and I called the dealer. They said it was a know problem and they would get back to me when they had the part to fix it. They never called me and I forgot about the problem. In October 2024, a neighbor told me my right back-up light was out. A couple of weeks later I went to my mechanic to have the bulb replaced. He told me that both back-up lights were out and they were non-replaceable leds. The entire light assembly must be replaced before I can get a state inspection sticker. The list price of the unit from Ford (only available from Ford no aftermarket part made) is $1,257. 57. The car only has 48,206 miles on it. I think the leds shorted out because of the moisture. I called Ford, they said there was nothing they could do for me. I don't believe I am the only person to have this problem. I think Ford should do something because it is a problem they knew about since day one.
The brake light in the rear spoiler stopped functioning.

About a year and a half ago I had a problem in which my headlights and highbeams would turn on but then shut off. If you turned them off and back on, they would come on but go out again. I paid to fix this problem. It's now happening again. It'll be the second time in two years with the same issue. I've searched online and others with the same year car are having the same exact problem. There's no recall listed on this but it's a safety issue that keeps happening. The date of the second incident is 12/5/23.
1. This issue is with the image produced by the backup camera as its image is dim and not very clear, especially at night. At daytime the image is also dim. I had 3 previous models of the same Ford Edge titanium 2013, 2016 & 2019 all had a similar backup camera albeit with the image on a smaller screen and never had an issue with the brightness/ clarity of the image. The issue I'm reporting is on a brand new 2024 Ford Edge titanium with a much larger and screen, the car has 850 miles on it as of today, the issue was apparent from day one after I took delivery but took it in to investigate the issue on 9/13/2023 - 2. It is becomes very obvious that something is wrong every time I back up from my driveway at night, the same poorly lit image appears. This a serious issue. - 3. I took it into the dealership where I bought it from. They could see my complaint and even compared it to a 2023 model, the images were the same, dim. The service department reported to me today that they discussed my issue with Ford who had no fix for it nor did they hear of such a complain before and suggested that the brightness on the screen be adjusted which the dealer technician did but did not produce any change to the image. - 4. No warning lights or signs of malfunction appeared on the screen before or after.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that he had noticed a crack in the rear tail light bar located at the top Edge of the hatch back liftgate. The contact stated that he had not hit any objects and had not noticed any impacts marks. The contact stated that the crack was located in the middle of the tail light bar. The contact stated that when it rains the hatch back tail light fills with water and the contact was concerned that the water intrusion could lead to a short circuit. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the rear tail light assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
I bought this car used from Honda dealership. It had 84,000 mileage on it and since then. The headlights are so dim and I can’t see you have to drive with high beam on every time I go at night I’ve changed almost we like 56 different types light bulb, but still nothing still worst. If I used one for the manufacturer one it’s nothing it’s literally dark outside. I can’t see nothing and another problem is as the ball joint since I bought it I took it from my first oil change when they did the inspection on the car they told me one of my passenger side ball joint was loose but that time I didn’t have money to repair it because it was almost $5000 they said and I was like I don’t have the money. I’m a college student so and recently my car wheel is to the left side more. Something if there’s anything I can do is there anything y’all can do to help cause I don’t want to get in an accident because of that thing.

Condensation build up in tail lights in which causes other drivers not to visibly see when braking during the day.
My car will turn on the lights in the middle of the night, without anybody in it. Battery is continuously dead, even after replacing with a new battery. The alternator and starter have been checked and are good. The passenger door ajar is always on. When I lock the car with my key fob it honks twice and the lights inside the car remain on. The car will die while driving it, when I am at a stop light. The engine light will come on and the only warning that appears is passenger door ajar. Other Ford vehicles have a recall for these horrible issues and my vehicle should be as well. This is a major issue caused by Ford. Period. There is no specific date for this issue, it happens every single day since I have owned this 2011 Ford Edge se fwd.
I purchased my 2014 Ford Edge sel on January 2015. I have electrical problems suspicion problems & recall on my airbags! I have always taken it to a Ford dealership to have my regular service done…oil charge etc. It those times I have told them the other problems I was having example electrical problem started a month after I bought my vehicle every time they told me nothing is wrong or they replace the battery I have had 4 batteries replaced by Ford dealerships. I also had recall on my airbags the dealership told me numerous times you do not need to worry about your vehicle it is fine!! after my 100, 000 mile warranty ran out I had my vehicle serviced by a mechanic shop. They could the electrical issue was in headlights & dashboard had them replace headlights & lights in dashboard. On 3/19/2023 I was in a bad vehicle accident involved 9 vehicles I was the 5 vehicle. I have neck back & leg injuries. My airbags never went off! if the airbags would of worked properly have would not of gotten all my injuries. My police officers & paramedics explained that to me at scene of the accident. Why did Ford not do or repair my airbag recall instead of telling meh car was not recalled even when I received service notification in the mail to get the airbags fixed.

Due to the door latch issue and my interior light staying on I am unable to see at night when driving. It has caused issues with my battery and I have had to replace it a few times. Why isn't Ford recalling this?.
A manufacture defect in the brake light housing cracks and causes water inside the light housing causing the light to be dim, eventually short out, and also flicker and shut off & on occasion. The end result is no brake lights or sometimes working depending on the water damage from the manufacture defect of the light housing plastic.
We have maintained this vehicle from its start. It has been developing a burn out on both rear turn signals in the last two years. The bulbs seem to require replacement more than once every six months. The bulbs seem to be overheating and actually melting the plastic between the bulb glass and the insert itself. Viewing this online it seems to be a problem that goes back for years and yet Ford maintains it is not their problem. I feel it's dangerous and could cause a fire if this continues and seems to affect a majority of customers.
The rear taillight socket melted due to excessive heat. This has happened twice to the same vehicle. Once in 05/2019. At the time, a dealer service center recommended replacing the junction box, a $700 repair. The same issue has occurred again.

Passenger door ajar light stays on and doors won't lock, and the exterior lights come on when the car is parked and not running they had a recall for the drivers side door latch, but not for the passenger side.
The locked door emblem sporadically comes on and stays on. It makes my interior lights stay on. It runs my battery down. The back passenger side door was opened by a rider and the lock all doors button had been engaged. The red light was on to show doors were not locked. This has been an ongoing issue for several months now. I have an appointment at Ford garage 09/13/22.
Rear turn signal blubs continue to blow out over and over. Last time I went to replace the bulb had fused to housing. I'm afraid it is going to catch fire. Also tired of buying bulbs every few months to replace burned out ones.

The dome lights won’t shut off when all the doors are shut.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Edge. The contact stated that there was condensation in the rear exterior light housings. The contact stated that the condensation had increased significantly over time. An unknown dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that it was a common failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
My backup lights kept burning out and are no longer functional. My directional and taillights have both burned out excessively. Last time I changed my left tail light I noticed the socket the bulb goes into looked a bit charred. My right directional recently burned out and this time the bulb is melted into the socket. I have an appt to have a mechanic change all rear sockets. Upon discovering the melted socket I checked on line and apparently this is a big problem for Ford Edge. This should be recalled as it is a serious problem.
The headlights are so dim that the vehicle is almost unsafe to drive at night time. This is especially true while driving in rain or snow at night. I have different strengths of headlights nothing helps. My family is at the point of not wanting to ride anywhere with me in the vehicle at night time. This past weekend it was raining when we left family and driving 20 miles in rain and night on low beam my girlfriend said she will never ride again at night. We live in an area where deer and other animals are often near the road at night time. This 2018 Ford Edge has even me a military veteran almost too scared to drive the vehicle at night time!! please help make Ford remedy this problem before people die!!! there seems to be some sort of opaque lens in front of the low beam headlight bulb and it seems to make is so the low beam is unable to give the vehicle any good lighting on low beam at night time.
I can not see a dark road in the night if there is no additional lighting, such as street lights. I have been to the dealership and there is no brighter bulbs approved by Ford; they have repositioned the lights and it does not help. I have missed a right turn several times and understeered. Twice I have missed the road completely and ran into a ditch that was not made visable when using the dim headlights. I have hit a fence post after going into the ditch. I made no insurance claim thinking that I was my fault that I can not see well in this vehicle. I see several post online with complaints and concerns regarding this same issue of the 2017 Edge titanium not have efficient dim headlights. This is a major safety concern. I can not see to safely drive at night on dark roads such as in the country. I can not see the road ahead of me more that a couple of feet and not at all when turning right. I bought the car from a dealership in spring this year, 2021. I seldom drive at night and I finally decided it is a vehicle issue not my personal issue with not being able to see the road at night. I will be going back to the dealership. . . Again. It looks like I will have to buy a different car since there is nothing that can be done to make this car safe!!.
I own a 2011 Ford Edge that has a reoccurring door latch issue. This is a well known issue with certain Ford Edge years. The door latches are defective and malfunction, causing a "door ajar" dash warning light and the interior lights come on. We have had all 4 door latches replaced, but I currently have one malfunctioning again. The last one I had replaced in 2018 was not covered under warranty, and cost me $350. I spoke with Ford and they refuse to reimburse me. My daughter currently drives this car. It is unsafe when the interior lights come on at night when driving due to this issue. Ford should step up and recall these models with this problem.
Moisture in rear tail lights and rear reflector on tailgate. Moisture is excessive and causing streaks and puddles to form in tail lights. Water and moisture blocks and distorts light from brake lights and tail lights lowering visibility of these lights which could result in accident.
