15 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2007 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/11/2014

I was pulled over for having a burnt out tail light. (no ticket issued) when I got to work I changed the bulb and discovered that the bulb was not burnt out but had melted the socket on the right side of the car. Upon further investigation I realized that both tail lights had the same problem and the bulbs had also been melting the interior red part of the tail light. There is now an area of the lights on both sides of the car that have white light shining through the lens instead of red. The design of the light has the bulb too close to the lens and there isn't enough room to dissipate heat from the bulb causing the lens to melt and the socket to melt. I have been on the Ford Edge forum and there seem to be an alarming number of complaints about the same thing. This is an obvious safety defect that should be addressed by Ford.

16 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Ford Edge. The contact states that the tail lights have to be continually replaced because they burn out and melt. The vehicle was repaired but the issue recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 85,000. Ad.

18 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 07/21/2014

Left rear turn/tail light is continually not working. I replace the bulb, thinking that would correct the issue but as it turned the bulb melted into the socket which had to be replaced. I've replaced the socket/connector 2x and now it's looks like replacement #3 is inevitable. I researched the internet for similar complaints and found several postings of the same problem. Can anyone tell me if there is a recall on this issue? if not, there should be one!.

19 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 07/05/2014

Three days after passing my annual texas state inspection while driving through town I initiated my left turn signal only to have the indicator blink very quickly (not the normal tick-tick-tick blink). This had happened a couple of years ago so I knew one of the bulbs had burned out on the left side. I went to the local auto parts store, purchased replacement tail light bulbs & bulb grease and asked if they could change it out for me. Upon removing the covers, the young man discovered a fried/melted assembly. There is no way to remove the bulb it is so melted in the socket and the socket is discolored from the heat. That must have been some power surge to do that kind of damage.

20 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 04/18/2014

The rear tail light sockets for the tail/brake light lamps are badly burned on both sides. We noticed the problem when we changed the tail light housing due to water vapor buld up. Only the right side had the visible water vapor. Both sides had the burned lamp sockets. The car was purchased used.

21 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2009 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/25/2014

The local mechanic inspected the tail light and found the light bulb socket burned due to an electrical failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The VIN was not available. The approximate current and failure mileage was 60,000.

22 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2009 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/15/2014

Both tail lights have burned holes through their outer casings. Therefore, when I brake there is no diffusion of the bulb, just the bright light of the bulb shining. Mechanics at my local Ford dealership admitted the problem is caused by faulty wiring, which makes the bulbs burn too hot, resulting in the melting of certain areas of the protective casings. But after informing Ford motor company of the issue, including sending pictures of the damage, I'm still being asked to pay for almost half of the repair; this when I didn't cause the problem and I'm still covered under the extended warranty package of up to 10 years or 100,000 miles. I've reviewed other complaints, and I'm not the first person to deal with this exact issue. Some have had Ford cover the costs, as they should, as it is their equipment that is faulty. But others are in the same boat as me, waiting for the company to take responsibility for their product. As the consumer and a non-car expert, I have no grasp on the range of potential damage or hazard this problem poses. I don't know if burned bulbs and melted casings are the extent of the problem, or if I'm driving around with the chance of a fire looming. I just know I'm dealing with bad wiring, and nothing good comes of that.

23 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2007 Ford Edge

24 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2010 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/03/2013

Badly burned rear tail light sockets. Left rear turn signal quit working, in the process of changing the bulb found the problem to be a badly burned lamp socket. The one on the right is in the same condition. This is a safety problem because it is the brake light and turn signal light.

25 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 11/04/2013

I discovered both of my rear brake light bulbs melted in their sockets. The sockets themselves are burnt black and the drivers side tail light case has been hot enough to melt. Both brake lights keep melting and going out with no known reason presented by Ford.

26 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2007 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/14/2013

Passenger side tail light bulb blackened and socket partially melted. Replaced with 4157ll bulb as recommended but still won't work. I think maybe bulb has gotten too hot and now socket defective.

27 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/04/2013

Right tail light went out. Upon attempting to replace, found base of bulb melted badly. Socket was not melted but was discolored (blackened). Checked left side, same issues. These are the bulbs that were in the vehicle when we purchased it in 2009 (assuming they are from the factory). Upon searching various forums, found this to be a nationwide problem. Major concern for fire.

30 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

Upon driving home noted my left turn signal was blinking quickly - which I assumed (and found to be correct that the bulb was out. Upon arriving home, I check the lights. It was difficult to see, however, I found the light bulb for rear/backup, and turn signal was out, and then noted that my left read lamp/bulb (larger) bulb was black, melted, and required plyers to remove from socket. It appeared to overhead/melt. Replacement bulb did work, but uncertain as to the use of the blackened socket. Rear brake/tail light socket on the left rear of vehicle has overheated and melted the plastic around lamp. Lamp was burnt out. Not sure what caused the high heat problem. No fuse was blown, new bulb worked in socket.

31 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 04/03/2013

Rear brake/tail light socket on both the left and right rear of vehicle have overheated and melted the plastic around lamp. Lamp was burnt out. Not sure what caused the high heat problem. No fuse was blown, new bulb worked in socket. This problem has happened twice in the last two months.
