The first incident happened as I was leaving work. I'd just pulled out of our parking lot onto the highway when my car failed to accelerate. A wrench symbol light came on and I coasted to the side of the highway, turned it off, let it sit for a moment and then restarted my car. I made it about 7 miles when the same thing happened. I pulled into a parking lot and used my phone to google the symptoms on a Ford forum. It stated that there were in fact several incidents stating the exact same problems. And that after restarting their vehicles, it resets itself. So I continued home. It happened 2 more times before I made it home only now the check engine light was on as well. I called Ford and they stated there was in fact an issue with the throttle body affecting several Ford vehicles. I had my car towed to Ford where they diagnosed that it was in fact the throttle body. However, this part is now on a national backorder. I am the 13th person at my local dealership needing this part in order to drive my vehicle. I have children and I refuse to put their lives at risk in this vehicle. They cleaned the throttle body and said this was a band aid fix until the part came in which by the way has no eta. This band aid repair lasted less than 24 hours. I have the extended warranty and it will cover this repair but I'm going to have to pay $100 deductible for it to be fixed. Why am I having to pay out of pocket for a problem that is not specific to my vehicle? they have posted bulletins but still no recall. Is it going to take someone being killed before they do something about this. I'm having to depend on rides from friends to get to and from work, to get to the grocery store, to pick up my children. My extended warranty will cover 2 days of a rental. Ford says they can't offer me a loaner vehicle. Please make them do something about this. . .
Leaving home check engine light and throttle lights came on and the vehicle was jerking and would allow me to give it any gas.
On Saturday, June 22, 2013, I drove 2. 5 hours north for one of my best friends weddings. I was on the interstate with cruise control set at about 70 mph when suddenly my car lost power. I was in the left lane with a semi behind me. Luckily the semi driver was paying attention and was able to move into the right lane before rear-ending me. I was able to move on the shoulder of the interstate and come to a stop. As I did, my Escape acted as though it was going to die but did not compltely. I noticed an open-ended wrench in the bottom left of my instrument panel and my check engine light was on. I turned the car off and looked through the manuel to figure out what the wrench light meant. It said throttle control/powertrain. I was running late to begin with so I started freaking out. I turned my Escape back on and everything seemed to be fine. Both lights went off so I put it in drive and got back on the interstate without any more problems. At first I thought maybe it was cruise control going out so I didn't use it the rest of the way. Once I got off the interstate, I stopped at a light and when the light changed I proceeded through it with my Escape stalling as soon as I turned, along with both lights back on. I knew it was something other than the cruise. Once I got to the nearest town, I stopped at autozone and had them test it. Their computer showed tps/throttle body failure. I immediately started doing some research to find this part since autozone doesn't carry it. I was surprised to find out that no one can get this part and Ford has been on back order for quite a few months. After the wedding, I drove back home with my car stalling many more times. Since then, it happens at least once a day, if not more. Twice, my car has stalled in the middle of a very busy highway intersection on my way to work, freaking me out I was going to get hit. Help needed soon!.
Problem occurred several times and appears to be more frequent. The first time it occurred I was driving 55 miles per hour and all of a sudden the check engine light came on and the gas pedal did nothing, the car did not accelerate. I had to pull over and shut the car off. When I started the car beck up it hesitated, the check engine light turned off, and worked fine. The same thing happened approximately 2 weeks later. Now I noticed that the rpm gauge fluctuates quite a bit when I start the car and then again when I am stopped at a traffic light. Today, I was driving with no problem and stopped because the car in front me was stopped to make a turn. When I tried to continue driving, my car stalled and I had to turn it off and then back on. There were a line of cars behind me and I was almost rear-ended.
Driving around 65mph and the car suddenly shuts off and the check engine light came on, loss of all power all I could do was try to make my way from the fast lane over to the shoulder, drifted to the side of the road and turned the car off and it restarted after a few minutes and drove fine all the way home, a few days later it did the same thing, cut off while doing around 60mph again in the fast lane I had to try and get over through 4 lanes of traffic with cars blowing by me at over 80mph to get to the shoulder, this is going to get someone killed. I called Ford and they know of the issue, seems the issue is so bad the part thats the cause of the problem (the throttle body) is on back order, you have been investigating since Feb. Why has this not been recalled yet?.
On several intermittent occasions begining on June 15, 2013 my Ford Escape would jerk forward and lose power (even on the freeway). Sometimes I am able to move over to the side of the road and others it dies before I can move it out of the intersection or street. This has happened when me and my two children were in the car which is extremely dangerous. The check engine light and wrench illuminates. This problem is spontaneous and can drive for several miles without an incident and then occurs out of nowhere again. When I took the car to the mechanic he informed me that the code p2112 showed that my throttle body needed to be replaced as it was getting stuck closed. I have heard that several other Ford vehicles are having similar issues and this needs to be investigated ASAP. After spending $370 to fix the problem I feel that this issue could have been resolved beforehand. Please prevent this from happening to other families.
While driving check engine light came on and car wont accelorate for me as hard as I press accelorater did not make difference just wouldn't go any faster. If I was on highway or someone behind me it sure would be major problem.
Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Ford Escape. The contact stated the check engine light illuminated on the instrument panel and then the vehicle lost power and would not go over 2 mph. The contact stated this happened three times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the dealer determined the throttle body needed to be replaced. The dealer stated the repair would take 1 â½ weeks because the part was on back order. The failure mileage and current mileages were 39,000. Rl.
I had not had my vehicle for 3 months before experiencing a problem. On several occasions, I was driving and my SUV lost power. Each time, I had to pull off to the side, wait a few minutes, cut the csuv off and then back on until the car would start again. This made my travel very dangerous on the highway. Took my SUV to the dealership and at first they could not find what was wrong with it because the error had not registered. I had to wait until the check engine light came on to discover it was the throttle body. I had to pay over $300 to get it replaced. It took awhile for Ford ran out of the part and had to order it from their warehouse. Luckily, the repair shop was able to find a replacement within 2 days. After having the throttle body replaced, it takes a while for the SUV to shift into gear and often feels like it is stalling or dragging.
I was driving down the street when my car stoped and check engine light came on wrench icon also came on as I tried to acclerate car.
The first incident occurred around June 3, 2013, but I don't remember the exact date. After backing out of my driveway and shifting into drive, as I accelerated through 2nd gear, it dropped out of gear into idle and I had no engine acceleration response from the gas pedal, no matter which gear I put it in. The wrench light also came on. After turning the engine off and restarting, the wrench light went out and the car worked normally. This happened approximately 5-7 times beginning around June 3, 2013 until I decided to take it to the dealership on June 18, 2013. I paid Ford $120 to diagnose the problem. They were unable to find anything wrong, but did reset the shift points. It did not happen again until July 12, 2013. While driving to work at approximately 60mph, the engine dropped out of gear and the wrench light came on. I had no engine response with the gas pedal and had to carefully coast over to the service/emergency lane. While on the side of the road, I called Ford and they told me after I brought my Escape in, multiple Escapes and fusions had come in with the same problem which was troubleshot down to the throttle body. They ordered the throttle body and said they would call me when it came in. I turned off the ignition, restarted, and continued driving. Approximately 2 minutes after getting back on the road it happened again, only this time the check engine light came on along with the wrench light. This time after restarting the engine, the check engine light stayed on. I drove to Ford and left it running so they could acquire any codes that were active. The throttle body was ordered on July 12, 2013 and Ford has no estimate of a shipment date. The car is currently with Ford awaiting the part while they pay for my rental. There are also two vehicles ahead of mine at the dealership waiting for the same part.
I was driving on the highway at 60 mph in cruise control and the car suddenly died. The check engine light came on and when I stepped on the pedal nothing happened. The ac unit and radio continued to work fine. When the car finally came to a stop, I turned off the engine and restarted it and it came back on like normal. The check engine light was no longer on. I was able to drive home fine.
As vehicle was proceeding forward from a stop onto a four lane road with the speed limit of 35 mph, it rolled forward and no power was provided. No warning lights prior to this. The throttle control / power train light came on and we were only able to go approximately 20 -30 yards onto the shoulder attempting to go around the corner and up a hill the vehicle was unable to do this we rolled back to the shoulder then turned the car off restarted and the check engine light appeared and were able to get the car up the hill and home. Car was towed to Ford dealership where it was diagnosed as a failed throttle body which was then replaced.
Electronic throttle body - code p2111 displayed - action number pe13003 ¢car lost transmission power and eventually stopped out on route 1 south. The issue began at the top of the morris goodkind bridge , as the incident occurred I noticed the wrench icon in the lower left of the dashboard and the check engine light I was in the left lane traveling at the average pace of traffic, I managed to get to the center lane once I realized the issue and eventually the car came to a complete stop [ engine would rev but no power would transfer to transmission] near the dangerous exit ramp for route 18 n and s. Luckily no one behind me were involved in any accidents. I turned put the car in park and turned the engine off I restarted the engine and shifted to drive the car seemed to be working again. I got past the rt. 18 ramp and got into the right lane I made it about 1. 5 miles near rutgers cook college where this issue happened again, this time I got onto the shoulder before the car came to a complete stop. Once again I put the car in park and it started up again I drove it home approximately 2 miles before leaving it parked until Tuesday may 14th when my wife and I could drop it off at the local dealership, malouf Ford in north brunswick NJ. This is a major safety concern , the check engine lamp or the wrench icon do not display until this part fails. Unexpectedly losing power and stopping on one of the busiest most traveled portion of route 1 is scary. I am glad that my 2 year old son and my pregnant wife were not injured when this occurred. In addition countless other motorists were put at risk due to this part failure without warning. ******I have all reciepts and documentation if you need further information or assistance.
2010 Ford Escape XLT continues to have intermitant occurances of "stalling in motion" with no warning. We have been lucky so far that the vehicle will coast to shoulder or a parking lot. If we drive on interstate we only travel in the right lane in case we have to coast off. Vehicle then idles roughly at about 800 rpm. Vehicle has to be put in park and shut-off. Then restart so far makes vehicle go again sometimes. Vehicle may have to be restarted multiple times to get moving again. However, this is getting more commmonplace and we will not allow our young inexperienced drivers to operate the vehicle due to the extreme safety risks associated with operating the vehicle. This is placing a huge burden on our family as we cannot afford to have the vehicle repaired at Ford dealer due to the high expense involved. Vehicle has check engine light with p2111 code on several occiasions which specifically isolates the throttle body malfunction. This situation needs to be remidied by Ford before a death occurs as it will occur soon especially on interstates or highways.
My 2010 Ford Escape stalled on me around may 5th, 2013. I was able to pull over and restart it after a couple minutes. The check engine light came on when this happened, but went away when I restarted engine. I was driving about 20 mph at the time. On may 13th, 2013 it happened again twice. After the second time I took it straight to the Ford dealership. They ran the computer test on it and couldn't find anything wrong. They charged me $40. They told me unless the check engine light is on, they probably wouldn't find anything. If it died and wouldn't restart, they might be able to find something then also. They said it will cost me $40 each time I brought it back to have it checked. Since then it has stalled on me about four more time, most recently 7/3/2013. Each time has been city driving not above 30mph. The check engine light did not come on these times. I have been avoiding driving it much because of the problem. It constantly surges when driving and sometimes jerks when first taking off from a start. When at a stop light or even in park with the motor running the rpms constantly go up and down.
The engine lost power, but did not stall, when accelerating from a stop light. The check engine light and a wrench symbol light appeared on the dash board. I stopped the engine and restarted it and the problem happened again just a few seconds later. I pulled over and stopped the engine and waited a few minutes then restarted it once more. I managed to drive another 2 miles and the problem happened again. It only seemed to happen if I tried to drive faster than 30mph or tried to accelerate too quickly. I tried to accelerate gingerly and keep my speed at 25mph and I managed to get the vehicle to the mechanic about 13 miles away. The problem happened once more while driving to the mechanic. The mechanic said the throttle body failed and needed to be replaced.
I was driving on the freeway and suddenly I lost power, the rpm's dropped to 1500-2000. I pulled over and the engine was sputtering like it was trying to die, the rpm's were fluctuating between 1000-2000. I turned the car off, waited a minute and started it again, seemed fine. I started driving again, it was ok for about 5 minutes then the same thing happened except this time the "wrench" light on the dash came on as well as the check engine light. The car had to be towed. I didn't drive the car for a few days, then tried driving it, the warning lights were off and it seemed fine. Worked great for about 2 weeks, then the same thing happened on the freeway again. I had it towed to my mechanic he said it was the throttle body and it needed to be replaced. He tried to order the part from Ford, but he was told that the part was being re-manufactured and may not be available for up to 3 months. I tried to drive my car home, but once again, the engine lost power. The only way I was able to drive it home was by driving 20 mph with my flashers on. I now have a car that I still have to make payments on that I can't drive because the part it needs hasn't been manufactured yet. Love my car, but this really sucks! there needs to be a recall!.
Driving on freeway at speed and vehicle fuel system seemed to shut off causing vehicle to stall and shutter. I was bearly able to exit freeway without incident. Shut engine off and restarted and vehicle finally resumed normal operation, at which time I drove directly to dealer for inspection, but they were in process of closing for the day and vehicle had resumed proper operation by then and dealer felt the vehicle would not be damaged to continue on trip if we wished. This incident occured 2 more times before returning home. When home, check engine light came on and took vehicle to mechanic for inspection and it was diagnosed with a faulty throttle body which as of 5/30/13 are unavailable due to national back order. Evidently lots of Escapes seem to have this problem. I am currently on list for the part in question. Vehicle is out of warranty by 1 month but not by mileage.
Cruising on a four lane rural highway, not using cruise control. Vehicle suddenly lost acceleration and power. Engine remained running but stepping on the gas would not do anything, the check engine light lit up. Turned hazards on, pulled over to the side (coasting), applied brake, shut car off and restarted. Car proceeded fine to destination. Second incident occurred approximately 6 hours later after car had been sitting. Proceded onto another four lane rural highway cruising at approximately 65 mph and the vehicle did the same thing. Check engine light came on, I pulled over, turned vehicle off, then restarted and proceded to my destination. As this was a Sunday, I took the vehicle into local Ford dealer, was told there was no code to read, but based on my account of the situation, they felt it was a faulty throttle body. They could not confirm until the vehicle would throw the code again. They drove vehicle for over 30 miles and the vehicle did not experience the same issue. With out confirmation of the problem, they could not definitively fix the vehicle.
I was coming to a stop at a light and the vehicle stalled. It was a dangerous situation. I assumed this was a random event. Car started right up and no check engine code light came on etc.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while accelerating from a stop, the service engine and check engine warning lights illuminated as the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was restarted but the failure recurred several times before reaching the contact's destination. The vehicle was not taken to a mechanic and was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 65,000.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and a smoke test was performed. The dealer located a leak in the system with the potential for fuel leakage as well. The valve solenoid, valve assembly pipe and the fuel filler pipe were all recommended for replacement. The manufacturer was notified and a complaint was filed but no assistance was offered. The vehicle was repaired at a cost of $ 931. 64. The failure and current mileage was 70,480. Updated 03/01/lj the component failures based on what the dealer provided, which was a smoke test, confirmed the fuel system was leaking fuel vapors into the atmosphere and any places that fuel vapors could Escape. Updated 03/07/13.
My check engine light came on steadily out of the blue. Took it to Ford dealer and was told I needed to replace a faulty purge valve. Part number:9u5z-9c915-h. I was told this was a common problem for Escape's and fusion's. There were 3 Escapes today having the same part replaced. Not under warranty and $300. There is a technical service bulletin on this issue, but not a recall. Seems like a common defect could have safety repercussions since is the fuel fumes not exhausting properly.
I am a homehealth nurse, I work in a very mountainous, rural area where I do not even have cellphone service. I was on a very narrow, curvy road, when the car just quit accelerating, the small wrench appeared on the dash, I was able to coast far enough to get to a wide spot where I could get the vehicle safely out of the road, barely missing an 18 wheel coal truck from hitting me. There was no warning, the vehicle drove fine all day and then it just quit. I was able to turn the car off and restart and attempted to drive it and again this happened 3 times before the check engine light finally came on. The nicest person in the world help me and he was able to detect the problem with his computer and he was able to adjust the throttle into the closed position and then I was able to get the vehicle home without anymore problems. I then took it to a Ford dealership and had the throttle body replaced before I did get killed if this was to happen again. I do wish Ford would just get this part recalled before someone does get killed.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated the check engine light illuminated on the instrument. The vehicle was taken to the dealer three times and all they have done is reset the computer. The dealer was unable to determine why the check engine light came on. The failure mileage was 40,000. The current mileage was 46,000.
Driving at 35mph, check engine light came on and SUV went into "limp home mode", slowing to only 10mph. After re-starting SUV 2-times same error appear. Took SUV to local Ford dealer tom holzer, and they said it was a failing throttle body sensor. Inquired if there was a known warranty issue and dealer confirmed no, but a service bulletin existed at customer's expense - which was not agreeable. Tom holzer service manager advise to contact Ford directly (which we did) and Ford said to contact service manager (which we did). After numerous phone calls and formal complaints we received no satisfactory resolution. Ford was blaming the local dealer, the local dealer blaming Ford, and we still had to pay $525 to replace defective throttle body sensor. (ironically our good friends have a 2010 chevy equinox with 80,000 miles that had the same problem and their local chevy dealer replaced their throttle body sensor and provided loaner vehicle during service procedure, both at no charge). Needless to say, we were very disappointed with the local dealer and Ford's handling of this known problem, and this will be our last Ford vehicle purchase after 30-years of dedicated Ford vehicle purchases.
