I replaced the spark plugs on 4/25/2021 for my 2014 Ford Escape se due to an p0303 error indicating a misfire for # 3 cylinder. All the spark plugs were easily changed except cylinder #3, this spark plug seized. As a result, I had my Ford Escape towed to hastings Ford (greenville, nc) on 4/29/2021. Gary from the service department called to tell me (@5:00 4/29/2021) that the mechanic was unable to remove the seized spark plug and that replacing the cylinder head would not be sufficient. The engine (1. 6 l ecoboost) is known to leak coolant and that it would be a waste of time and money to just replace the cylinder head. The service department recommended that I replace the "long block" for a total cost of $7800 (including labor). My vehicle only has 104,954 mile. The dealership knowingly acknowledges a defect with the motor but will not accept responsibility towards fixing the engine. I call Ford's customer service on 4/29/2021 @ 6:06 to ask for assistance in repairing my vehicle (case # - cas-31599643) and received a call from a supervisor on 4/30/2021 @ 1:37. Joel indicated that Ford assumes no responsibility towards the repair of my vehicle since it's beyond the powertrain warranty. I have found 2 class action law suits against Ford for the 1. 6 l ecoboost due to the coolant leak damage to the engine and believe that Ford should be responsible for the repairs. ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly #vpic#.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated she had NHTSA campaign number: 17v209000 (engine and engine cooling) completed at autonation Ford sanford (4911 wayside dr, sanford, FL 32771, (407) 680-0781) back in 2019. The contact stated she was unable to start the vehicle in April 2021. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not drivable. The vehicle was towed back to autonation Ford sanford (4911 wayside dr, sanford, FL 32771, (407) 680-0781) where it was diagnosed with a coolant leak which needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that there was coolant in cylinder number 3. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The manufacturer informed the contact that the engine needed to be replaced. The failure mileage was approximately 136,925.
I have a 2014 Ford Escape se with 67000 miles and when I was parked burger king parking lot with engine running a message came on that said it was overheating so I parked it and looked under hood saw it had an antifreeze reservoir that was low so I proceeded to get an appointment for cloninger Ford morganton nc for the works oil change and coolant reservoir and they checked it put antifreeze in it and said any problems call them. I left and it seemed ok, until I had it runnung in the driveway and it was overheating it said again so then I called told them what happened and got appointment to come in again and I went and showed them that the reservoir was empty again so maybe I had a leak since they just filled it up a week ago at my appointment same dealer service dept. After they looked at it they said the engine needed to be replaced due to the engine coolant system causing a crack in the engine and it would be $8000. Plus labor to repair and there was no recall for it and it was out of warranty and they were seeing it more and more on this car and I would be better to trade it in. It now sits in my driveway until something can get done. I truly believe consumers should be covered for this with all the complaints here and with attorneys on the internet who are exploring same problem.
There is a coolant system leak similar to that in Ford recall #17s09 (NHTSA campaign #17v209), but the dealer says my car is not covered by that recall.
During a routine oil change, the technician found a coolant leak. After an in depth diagnosis, the technician preformed a coolant pressure test. He found coolant intrusion in two cylinders. The Ford service center wrote: recommended immediate attention to rebuilt/replace the engine. They preformed coolant pressure test leaking down 10 psi within 1 and1/2 hour no external leak. They removed all 4 spark plugs, used a borescope and found evidence of coolant on top of #2 and #3 piston. Thus the need to replace the long block assembly. The service center recommended the need to replace the engine at the suggested cost of $8,000. I have changed the oil regularly since owning this vehicle. I do not have the funds to do this major type of repair. Why hasn't Ford recalled the vehicle to correct this problem since this have been a problem since 2010?.
Ford Escape se 2014 all coolant leaked, car could not run, white smoke and now also has oil leak. There is recall 17v209000 dated 03/27/2017 that describes what happened to my vehicle yet the dealer mentioned that my car has no recalls outstanding. I was just leaving my home when this happened and had to stop the car. Only the yellow check engine light came on and the red "I" in cluster. Right now my car is in the shop and they are checking to see exactly why this happened. As soon as I know and get the estimate, I will be posting it in this complaint. Also called Ford and they said that any questions had to be thru the dealer which I had already done. Checked my recalls online and also says no recalls.

Vehicle has been diagnosed as leaking coolant into one of the cylinders. If left unrepaired, there is a possibility of engine fire. Dealer recommended repair is to replace the engine, at an unacceptably high cost of approximately $9000.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while the vehicle was stationary, the contact noticed that the vehicle was leaking coolant. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to hub city Ford, inc. (2909 NW evangeline throughway, lafayette, la 70507) where it was diagnosed however, the mechanic stated that there was nothing that needed to be replaced. The contact wanted a second opinion and took the vehicle to courtesy Ford south (1201 us-167, abbeville, la 70510) where it was diagnosed with the coolant reservoir needing to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 75,328.
Engine keeps over heating but no coolant leak warning like keeps coming on saying engine temp to high pull over just got transmission replaced by Ford dealership vehicle was traveling around 60mph when engine temp warning light came on and went limp.
In Feb 2019 I had my Ford Escape serviced for an engine coolant recall (17s09). In October 2020 the Ford dealership found my engine coolant leaking into the cylinders of my engine. This is a problem that should have been taken care of by the recall. This is a fire hazard and Ford claims the repair will be $5,000. They claim that the recall will not cover the expense. I am writing for Ford to reopen recall 17s09. This is a huge safety hazard and liability.
My engine over heats. Coolant leaks. I had it serviced through Ford for this issue, immediately after the check engine light came on. The light for coolant was still popping up. My car flashes too hot turn off immediately daily.
Took Escape to dealer on 08/26/20, all checked out. Someone had marked coolant resevoir on the paper work done at dealer, was written in and then it was crossed off. Fast foward 3 weeks and dash read "turn off engine too hot" took to dealer no other mechanic has touched car and they stated the resevoir had leaked and that the engine mount was corroded. They take no responsibility for not taking action on a broken resevoir that corroded engine mount. This happened on while driving 20 minuets on the freeway.
Nhtsa campaign 17v209000 report date: Mar 26, 2017 vehicles affected: 208584 the dealership did not complete a recall repair on my vehicle. The cylinder head cracked and coolant has entered the motor. Leaks oil, the oil may contact a hot engine or exhaust component, increasing the risk of a fire. My engine light is on, the engine fault icon has illuminated. The dealership wants to charge me $7,000 to repl;ace the engine. This vehicle is only 6 years new.
My 2014 Ford Escape has overheated sometime in the fall of 2019, due to a leak in the coolant tank, unexpectedly shutting off while driving on a small town road at 40 mi/hr with children in the back seat. I paid Ford $600 to replace the tank. In September of 2020, the engine overheated again, suddenly shutting off while driving 55 mi/hr on a busy road. I had children in the car, when the error occurred again. The temperature gauge showed no sign of overheating in either occurrence. The only message I received from the dash was "power reduced to cool engine" about 3 seconds before the car came to a complete stop. Smoke appeared from under the hood in both instances. The second time around, I attempted to refill the coolant, which leaked out onto the ground. However, this time the leak didn't appear to come from the coolant tank, but rather the engine itself. I researched the issue and it turns out, many of the same year and model cars have been catching on fire and/or producing the same issue. There is a recall for it, but Ford told me that based on my VIN, my car didn't qualify for the recall. They asked me pay $3,000 replace a blown gasket that was caused by the system over heating. Obviously, these expensive parts continue to break due to a faulty engine. Yet, instead of fixing the root cause, Ford milks its customers for hundreds, even thousands of dollars worth of repairs, knowing the car will continue to shut off and cause financial, eventually physical harm to people. My question's are: -how much more money do I have to spend on a faulty engine that will continue to shut off and put my and my family's life in danger? -how can Ford refuse to fix a recall based on VIN numbers, if the issue is life-threatening and exactly the same as the recall issue?.
Our 2014 Ford Escape had a recall on 02-15-18 for the coolant sensor system. Repair was done but did not fix the problem. Engine has coolant leak causing smoke in the exhaust system and leak under the hood. We are afraid of fire in the engine compartment and in the car. Anytime we start this vehicle or drive it this happens.
I bought my car in November of 2018, almost immediately my low coolant light was coming on often, I took it to a mechanic and they found no leaks so I just continued to add coolant when it came on about every 2 months. I was driving from colorado to oklahoma on may 26th 2020 and my check engine light came on I immediately took it to a certified Ford mechanic and was told I needed a new turbo charger $2800. Driving from oklahoma to colorado on June 5th 2020. My car overheated, once again I took it to a Ford certified mechanic and was told it needed a new thermostat and 2 other sensors, $1300. On August 13th my car started making a loud grinding sound as I was driving on the highway I drove 2hrs to the closes Ford dealership and was told I need a new engine to the tune of $8000. This vehicle is worthless and I am so frustrated with this whole situation. Only 109000 miles.
I purchased a 2014 Ford Escape se 2l ecoboost. The car started to overheat while driving and is losing coolant. The vehicle was pressure tested and there are no leaks. I took the car to a Ford dealership in 2020 with less than 15,000 miles on the engine and was told that the engine needs to be replaced with a rebuilt engine for more than $9,000. 00. An entire engine should not need to be replaced on a vehicle with less than 15,000 miles. This is clearly a faulty/defective engine.
While driving I noticed the car felt like it was losing power, almost like running out of gas, then a sensor went off saying engine fault service now, then I could really feel the car dragging. I pulled over and could hear the coolant bubbling, so I waited til it cooled down and say there wasn't much there, I noticed a leak under the coolant area. I took the car in to a local mechanic and was told I needed an engine flush, I got the flush but soon after the same issue was reoccurring. Randomly now it will just lose power and sensor will read the same thing, it's scary with your family I'm the car and your losing power. So here I am again being told I need an engine flush again within the same year. I have since replaced the reservoir being that it wasn't holding coolant. When I pour coolant in it seems like the engine is pulling it right out, I'm not sure where it's going because it's not leaking out but it's going somewhere. I called Ford and was told this was not a recall on my VIN, however I have read many complaints on this site with the same issue. I'm hoping to clear this up some I can get my vehicle in safe conditions for my family, and so no one gets hurt.
2014 Ford Escape with 85,000 miles began to issue coolant low warning despite having just recently being filled recently. It shortly after began to overheat and misfire on the freeway on ramp. I had it towed to an independent mechanic who registered about 500 ppm of exhaust going into the coolant. He diagnosed it as a broken head gasket and that I possible needed an entire engine replacement. He also noted there was no leak in our coolant.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the engine overheated while driving. The contact stated that the low coolant level warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that there was evidence of a coolant leak underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the coolant reservoir and cylinder head needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Cloninger Ford of hickory (1241 us-70, hickory, nc 28602, (828) 328-2221) was contacted and confirmed that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 17v209000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The approximate failure mileage was 64,400.
Engine coolant leaked into the 4th engine cylinder causing the spark plug to seize and break inside the cylinder. Leak also ruined the engine and now engine needs to be replaced.
Bought this vehicle in 2019 35000 miles drove to 54000 ,then the daughter took to nevada where the low coolant came on then the vehicle to stop and strand her in the middle of nowhere , had it towed to gallagher Ford where they informed me the #3 cylinder had anti freeze in and I needed a new engine Ford would not stand by their motor even though after installing used motor and getting the bill right on the statement from Ford this is a known problem where it states these engines have problems leaking anti freeze into the engine per the photo of statement.
Purchased 3/28/20, mileage 78,277; 4/8/20 vehicle stalled pulling out of driveway after warning light indicated "coolant low," "stop safely" - vehicle stopped itself and would not restart; 4/9/20 left vehicle at Ford dealer service dept. ; 4/13/20 diagnosed with blown head gasket due to coolant leakage, engine replacement required; 4/23/20 informed that engine was on back order; 5/18/20 5 pm, (over 1 month later) repairs completed, picked up from dealership; drove approx 3 mi. , stopped for 10 hrs; 5/19/20 3:30 am, drove approx 10 miles, stopped for 1/2 hr; drove off from 2nd stop, vehicle stalled within 3 miles after warning light indicated "coolant low," "stop safely," and temp gauge maxed out on hot, vehicle died and would not restart, leaving me stranded on the side of a rural highway at 4 in the morning. Opened hood just in time to see remaining coolant draining from reservoir. Although I have a new, unopened jug of coolant, location of the reservoir requires a funnel to add coolant !!! - (car does not come equipped with funnel and owner's manual fails to mention this!) caught a ride with sheriff's unit that just happened to be passing by. 5/19/20 vehicle being towed back to service dept. ; current mileage 79,079.
In 2017 I took my car in to get several recall items fixed and I was told there was a coolant issue but it's okay to drive and just monitor the coolant. Earlier this year the engine light started turning on and I would get a "low coolant" message. Due to covid I did not take the car in immediately. I ended up having to fill the coolant three times in one month eventually leading to white fumes coming out the exhaust. When my car finally stalled in the middle of an intersection due to "low coolant" (which we had refilled 5 days prior) I finally took the car into Ford and they immediately knew what the issue was as I pulled up saying they could "smell it. " said I was not allowed to drive it home and it was most likely needing to result in a new engine. It was a coolant leak that could result in the engine overheating and breaking down, which was too dangerous for me to drive. The service guy said this was about the 20th vehicle he had to deal with this issue on but said they weren't going to cover it. Said there was a recall on this issue but only for 2014 Escapes manufactured at two locations. I asked why those two when this issue seems to be happening with several vehicles and he had no answers. Luckily I had a warranty that covered the new $8000 engine but we were responsible for the deductible and a majority of the rental car. It took 8 weeks for them to replace the engine so the rental was not cheap.
Due to faulty cracking coolant reseviors that I have replaced twice now, part of the motor has cracked and not only leaks oil, but leaks coolant into my engine, where the engine burns the coolant. So now my motor is junk. I have had no recalls on this vehicle but multiple issues that fall under recalls for other vehicles. Reassesments need to be made.
My 2014 Ford is leaking engine coolant into my engine as well as oil. Which is causing my car to decrease in acceleration and has caused my car to stall on city street. I took my car to a Ford dealership and they made it worst by not recognizing that this was a problem concerning a recall on Ford and refuses to fix my car.
Side wall of cylinder cracked due to an unchecked recall causing coolant to leak into cylinder. Damaging the engine warranting the whole engine be replaced at a cost of around $7000. The vehicle was also just out of mileage warranty causing the owner to pay the whole bill.
Antifreeze coolant continue to be low, car center replaced a hose on 1/20/20 for 200. 00, then a week later low coolant again the center assume air pockets was the reason with no coolant leaks 2/12/20. I kept replenishing coolant, June 3rd 2020 while driving on highway, the transmission failed, and it was replace 6/10/20 for 4000. 00. Not even one week after picking the car up the low coolant with engine light with error codes p0012 camshaft position timing over-retarded bank 1 and p0303 cylinder 3 misfire detected. Who is going to take on fixing this car? I have been replacing parts and replenishing fluids with no resolution.
Vehicle engine started to reach high temperature levels while driving and a notification to stop the vehicle due to high temperatures. Can only drive for 10-15 mins before this happens. A professional mechanic performed a diagnostic test and a recall came back for 2014 Ford Escape - coolant level sensor system installation. In the affected vehicles, a lack of coolant circulation could cause an engine to overheat, resulting in a crack in the cylinder head. A cracked cylinder head can result in a pressurized oil leak. Oil that comes into contact with a hot engine surface increases the risk of a fire in the engine compartment.
Engine coolant keeps evaporating/leaking out.
My car is sporadically spewing anti-freeze from the overflow tank. I have taken it to 3 local mechanics and 1 Ford dealership and no one has been able to find a reason for this. I have noticed this occurs if I am driving around for a long time with the a/c off. The leaking is coming from my coolant overflow tank's air ventilation. Anti-freeze does not leak out whilst driving the vehicle, but only when I park and shut it off. The mechanics have done several pressure tests which all came back normal. December 2019 my coolant light came on for the first time since owning the car for 2 years and I was needing to put a small amount of anti-freeze in every month. Since July 2020 it has been overflowing and leaking every week it seems. I would average I go through 2-3 cups of anti-freeze every 1-2 weeks. When parking and turning off the car the overflow tank has anti-freeze filled to the top, but not quite coming out of the cap. I am attaching some images of my overflow tank.
I took my car to a Ford dealship to for a recall. The recall was 17s09, a coolant level sensor installation. When I picked my vehicle up and drove it home, the next day my check engine light came on, so I brought it back. They then replaced a leaking coolant line to degas bottle. A few days later I turned on my vehicle to go somewhere and before even leaving my block, my check engine light came on again and instantly started over heating. I was luckily down the street from my home so I managed to get it back to my house, but I was afraid to drive it so I had it towed to the dealership for a third time. They didn't make any notes on that visit so I'm not sure what happened but when I picked it up they stated I needed to pay for services because they noticed a leak in my heater hose and the service was going to cost over $3000! my car was perfectly fine before taking it in for a recall. I wish I would have never brought it in because when I tried to make a complaint about how my car was serviced and what they did to it, I had no luck getting any help or assistance but I know the recall put my car in a worser condition. My vehicle had never over heated before and a few days after getting this recall it over heated as soon as I turned it on.
Driving our Escape, with 58,800 miles, on a road trip had check engine light come on. We drove it to a close repair shop and found out coolant leaked into head gasket #3 causing over heating damage and replacement of cylinder head would be required. Ford dealer would not help repair or replace or even diagnose. Recall fix 17s09 (NHTSA 17v-209) did not fix the potential danger or damage. The coolant leak still happened causing engine failure and a worthless car at 58,800 miles.
For the past 6 months (approximately) my car has been experiencing antifreeze leaks. My vehicle has roughly 71,850 miles and it is a 2014 Ford Escape. About once a month my info lights comes on signaling my engine coolant is low. I have taken it to a couple locations and no one can find a leak. In February the mechanic suggested I replace the cap in case it is evaporating. I replaced the cap end of April and once again in may the light can back on. I fill the coolant to the max line, but after a month it is at the min line or sometimes lower. I saw there are no recalls on my vehicle, but this seems to be a serious issue as my car can fail while I am driving around with my infant child in the car. No mechanic can seem to help me.
