1 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2020

I own a 2014 Ford Escape it has 101,000 miles on it. The car has been well maintained with all the normal maintenance done at mileage recommended. I was on the interstate in traffic when all the sudden the vehicle just shut off, which left me in the middle of the interstate due to the bumper to bumper traffic. I had the vehicle towed to shop and come to find out the transmission went completely out. Called the Ford dealership and of course the warranty had just expired on it and was told that they weren't aware of this problem with these vehicles and there was nothing they could do about this problem. T this point it was going to cost me over 5k to have everything fixed. Come to find out Ford knew about this problem with this particular year make and model of this vehicle and are pretty much a joke. This problem should be a recall giving the fact I still owed money for this vehicle.

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. While driving and pulling into a parking spot, the vehicle shut off and was towed to the contact's home. The following day, the contact attempted to drive the vehicle, but it shut off again. The vehicle was taken to crossroads Ford of prince george (4500 whitehill blvd, prince george, va 23875, (877) 331-9405). The total cost for the repairs was over $4,200. The vehicle was currently at the dealer awaiting repairs. The failure mileage was 79,000. The VIN was invalid.

4 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2019

Every time I get gas the car have trouble starting back up. The vehicle accelerate on it's own while driving, and randomly stops. Today 10/28/2019 I was on the eway going west of 465 indianapolis and the car slowed down nstopped before I can even pull over. I sat there for 5 mins car off and it turned back on. I have to shut the car off n start back up. Engine light battery and trans light have all came on amd it shuts off and come back on like nothing ever happened yet auto shops can not find a diagnostic for the problem. This is an ongoing issue and I have only had this car for a month.

5 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2019

The vehicle was stationary and had not been driven for more than 3 hours. I pushed the remote start and the car started, but it shut off almost immediately. The shut down was due to overheating. The engine was cool and the coolant was tepid at best. This is not an overheating issue. The car will not run on more than 2 cylinders. This is the second time this has happened since the recall for the coolant sensor. The car had to be towed to the dealer where I was charged to diagnose the issue. This should be no charge since it was recalled for the overheating issue. This overheating has caused my transmission and torque converter to fail as well. The cost of the transmission should be reimbursed by Ford since they have know about the overheating issue for a long time now.

6 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2019

January 9, 2019 at 10:39pm my 2014 Ford Escape caught on fire. Driving down interstate 81, going speed limit 70 mph, vehicle shut off and said "service engine now". Steering and brakes did not lock up but the vehicle lost rpms and was not running as I pulled over to the right hand shoulder, I was in the left hand lane when my vehicle shut off. As I stopped, I put vehicle in park and turned key off, all while it said "service engine now". I turned my hazards on and got out my phone to call someone for help. As I looked up I seen flames coming from the windshield wiper area and smoke in front of my lights, I grabbed my work bag and jumped out of the vehicle, jumped across the guard rail, and immediately called 911 from a safe distance. In approximately 6-9 minutes the entire front end of my vehicle was engulfed in flames as I was on the phone with 911. Took responders about 15 to 20 minutes to arrive and to put out the fire. As soon as responders finally showed, I could hear both tires explode a few minutes apart from each other. Once fire was safely put out, the entire front end of my vehicle was melted and the inside as well was beyond recognizable. I was told my vehicle is totalled, obviously, and I got a tow to take vehicle to my house where the 2014 Ford Escape is sitting in my yard. I figured my insurance company might come look at it but they didn't because all I had was liability on it. I did not know until a couple days later there was in fact a recall on my vehicle, due to risk of engine fire.

7 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2014

While driving on highway I accidentally depressed the keyless start-stop button. The engine shut off, power steering and brakes were lost and engine would not restart by pushing start-stop button. I was able to slow car - with other cars close behind- shift gear shift to neutral and apply brake pedal so that start-stop button would restart engine. I have had Ford dealership check keyless start-stop system and they indicate that system works as it should. Start - stop button is located in drivers right knee area and is two inches from similar looking climate control button. Power steering and brakes were lost with engine off and car in motion. I contacted Ford motor company and they referred us to the dealership. This is a dangerous design flaw.
