1 Battery Dead problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 09/10/2020

Transmission began failing approximately September/October 2018, just over 75,000 miles and after the expiration of the warranty. The transmission was rebuilt in January 2019 @ a cost of $3300. 00. The electrical controls (radio & hvac) on console and dashboard have a shortage and go out regularly. I pointed this shortage out when the vehicle was purchased and I was told it was fixed when I came to pick it up. . There are also issues with the battery. I replaced the battery in November 2018 with a Ford battery. 4 months later, in February 2019 it failed to start due to excessive leakage with corrosive exposure. Ford crossroads replaced it at that time (2019) with another new Ford battery and on September 10, 2020 the battery failed again. Mechanic had to clean up the irregular corrosion on the battery and the posts. Documentation is not available at the time of this post but can be retrieved if requested.

2 Battery Dead problem of the 2018 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 06/18/2019

2018 Ford Escape titanium problem has occurred 2 times within one month. Both times Ford dealership stated they could not duplicate problem. When trying to start car. There is no power whats so ever. Once in my driveway and 2nd time at a restaurant. Car was stationary both times. Tried jumping car but no luck. Called roadside assist to take to Ford dealership. This to me is a safety issue as other people's complaints indicate loss of power while driving and having no control over car. I've owned the car 4 months. The first incident included no power but also the stop/start feature would fail to restart the motor after being stopping for a stop sign or a red light. This happened at least 35 times within 4 months. . . Secondly the rear hatch would not lock properly and the usb ports would not charge my iphone. The dealer indicated the battery showed a failure and replaced battery, but stop/start feature continues to fail. This vehicle is still under factory warranty.

7 Battery Dead problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 10/03/2014

Numerous faults with radio and sync system. The radio will come on by itself and will not shut off. This usually occurs when a cell phone is in use and connects or disconnects via bluetooth when the car is started or turned off. The radio will not turn off even after the engine is turned off and the doors are opened, and remain on even if I lock the car. I went inside a store not having left any radio on or anything, came out and he battery was dead. I got a jump start and the radio came on when the car started from being jumped. Evidently sync turned on the radio. This has caused me to be left with a dead battery on two occasions. I am taking it to the dealer on Monday, this is a Saturday evening.

9 Battery Dead problem of the 2011 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 09/27/2013

I could've [xxx] died. I was on a busy highway when my car died like the battery was died but the battery was fine and I had gas. I took my Ford Escape into the dealership to see what the problem was. My SUV needed something to do with the throttle. Im not very happy that I will need to pay 600 dollar to fix something that others with a Ford Escape are having the same problem. Ford needs to recall the Ford Escapes ASAP or give people a refund or discount or your company will lose alot of customers because Ford wont take responsibility for this. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

10 Battery Dead problem of the 2005 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 07/13/2013

Within 1/4 mile of starting and driving from home, the engine began to run very rough, misfiring, idling rough, etc. Pulled over, opened hood, engine was idling very rough. No check engine light. Brought it back home. Total trip was less than 1 mile. Next day, started it up again, ran smoother, but had no power; very difficult to get above 20-30mph. Brought it to repair shop. They determined that all three catalytic converters were clogged up from broken/melted catalytic converter internal parts. Replaced all three catalytic converters, but repair shop could not determine the cause of the initial misfiring and catalytic converter damage. Check engine light never came on at any time. Total repair cost $2350. 00. Car had been in the same shop earlier that week for state inspection and lube-oil-filter. No issues found at that time. Battery had failed two days before the problem, and was replaced the morning of the problem. The issue appeared upon first driving the car after the battery was changed.

11 Battery Dead problem of the 2010 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 06/02/2013

My vehicle is a 2010 Ford Escape 6 cyc with 4 wd. This was a new vehicle purchased in early 2010 as it had 4. 7 miles on it when purchased and I put most of those miles on it during the test drive. When traveling at highway speed recently in heavy traffic the vehicle suddenly lost all ability to accelerate. It was as if there was no gas pedal in the vehicle at all. No shuddering, or chugging after this occurred and absolutely no warning at all before it occurred. It was extremely lucky that no one was injured as I attempted to make my way across 4 lanes of traffic to the shoulder. The vehicle never shut off when this occurred. I then turned the vehicle off, waited, and then restarted and it seemed to run fine. I took it to the Ford dealership where it was purchased to assess the situation. I was told the battery was bad which they replaced. I questioned as to how a battery could cause this type of problem as I understand some of the vehicle mechanics and my research showed that it was more than likely a throttle body issue and I was assured that battery was most certainly the issue due to the complex nature of vehicles today and their on board computers. When the battery was replaced my wife picked up the vehicle and had just entered the interstate when at highway speed the same exact problem occurred where an accident was almost caused by her efforts to exit the road. Again no warning. When it was restarted it was driven back to the dealership. Today, it was confirmed by the Ford dealership that in fact it was the throttle body issue that my research had show it to be, and more so, the part, which is somehow not a safety recalled item by the NHTSA, is on back-order by Ford because of the shear number of these parts going bad and needing to be replaced in so many vehicles. I now own a vehicle that cannot be operated safely without a safety recall.

12 Battery Dead problem of the 2008 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 01/04/2013

My Ford Escape is my family and work vehicle. One morning I started it after it was parked in cold overnight, engine started but the steering was stuck, thought battery was bad. Restarted several times until steering loosened up. Drove car and every stop light or while idling, the steering wheel vibrated so hard and have to hold it steady, thought, time to have my control arm replaced again. Took it to a friend's car shop , said, they've been having costumers bringing their Ford Escapes lately with the same problem. They couldn't fix it. Told me to go to my dealership. Dealership diagnosed it , electronic steering problem $90 for diagnosis, $1100 parts and labor, about 3-days to order for parts. Too expensive and dangerous, needs to have a recall.

13 Battery Dead problem of the 2010 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 12/22/2012

At freeway speed the car lost power. We were able to pull to the shoulder of the highway. A small wrench warning light appeared on the dashboard. We checked the owner's manual, and it referred to a "throttle/power train" issue and told us to seek dealer attention as soon as possible. The engine restarted, so we continued our trip. We stopped in sulfur springs, TX, at the Ford dealership. That morning the vehicle battery was dead (which was the first problem we have ever had with the vehicle), and we began our trip after jump-starting the car. I thought the stalling was related to the battery problem. The events were explained to the tech, we replaced the battery which we felt would also solve the stalling problem. The stall occurred the next day, and again on our return trip. I took the vehicle to our local Ford dealer where the throttle body assembly was replaced. We have not, as of now, tested the repair at freeway speed, but were assured by the dealer that the problem was solved.

14 Battery Dead problem of the 2001 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 04/12/2002

Vehicle would not start, wouldn't even turn over cted like the battery was dead, except the radio worked and seat belt chime would run. Played with steering wheel and it started. This has happened 4 times in 1 year. It is at the dealers right now, they say they never heard of this before. Last week when it did it and I was moving the steering wheel , it didn;t even lock, I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I always park where I can make sure a wrecker can get in to haul it to the dealers.
