While driving the vehicle car completely shuts off in the middle of traffic, dash lights turn off then power went out. Now horn no longer works. Turned the car back on and pulled to the side of the road. I tried to accelerate and white smoke came out of the back of the vehicle and a rattle noise from the front passenger side. Warning lights never turned on ! I was able to drive the vehicle to a nearest Ford dealer after stopping multiple times in the process. Took the car to Ford , they claimed there was no issues except the ones they found not relating to the problem I first stated . They advised me for security I would have to get these problems fixed and that could be the cause. I picked the vehicle up 2/17/2025, $1951. 72 later. Car cuts off again in the middle of traffic , smoke , lights flash then everything went off. I have a full report of the battery and everything else however the car is a big safety issue if it keeps stopping in traffic .

For years my alarm goes off randomly, during the day to all hours of the night. When I'm driving the car the light inside will go on and off and on dashboard will say door ajar. I've called Ford, I've asked the dealer and I've asked mechanics not with Ford. Since the alarm is built into engine it can not be disabled. Only option is to pull horn wire so my neighbors will not be annoyed by my horn and alarm soundings at all hours. I've researched for years how to try to fix this issue, I've changed my car battery, I've changed battery in remote. . . Nothing is working. Now the dealer is telling me there's a problem with the latch. Had my car in there many times for different things, but I refuse to pay 800. Per latch in the vehicle, since they're not even really sure it's a latch or which latch would be the problem. I'm very leary about disconnecting my horn for safety issues, but I'm let with no other choice. From what I understand this has been an ongoing issue with the Ford Escape for years and years. Now it's a safety issue not just annoying to my family and the neighbors.

The alarm goes off at all hours every day for no apparent reason while locked & parked. The dealership had no way to fix it unless the horn was disarmed. I feel that is unsafe to have no horn.

Back electric tailgate does not close completely. This is indicated by the horn double honking when locking the vehicle. However, there is no indicator on the dash when the car is on that this is not fully latched. I believe this could lead to exhaust in the cabin, especially if idling.
I was driving on the interstate in the left lane going about 74 mph with my cruise control on and using my navigation when the screen suddenly went blank and the car starting slowing down and everything shut down. The traffic was very heavy and I had to swerve over 3 lanes of traffic to get to the shoulder of the road. Other cars and trucks were honking their horns and swerving around me. I was very luck not to been involved in a serious accident. After I got to the shoulder of the road I tried several times to restart my vehicle and was unable to. I waited about 5 minutes and tried again to start it and was unable to do so. I called aaa and and tow truck came about 20 minutes later and when he got it it started up again. The car has a little over 33,000 miles and I bought it as a pre-owned certified car from the brandon Ford dealership about 9 months ago.

On several ocassions, vehicle security alarm sounded several times while trying to start engine. Alarm horn eventually deactivated after pushing key button during several starting attempts. Drove vehicle out of parking lot slowing for stop light and vehicle completely shut off. Major safety concern. Restarted engine and gauges swing minimum to maximum continually with air bag light on, check engine light on, theft light on. Gauges worked alternately during min-max swings, then stopped working completely. Day after occurence, new battery was completely drained and would not hold a charge. When trying to charge battery, vechicle had clicking sound in gauge console. Had vehicle towed to auto electrical mechanic who tells me it is a faulty dash console and not the vehicle computer and dash gauge console needs to be replaced at a new part cost of $700. Replacing dash gauge console with a new one to find if this fixes vehicle problems. Major consern if engine shutting down while driving.

Whe leaving our home in haines city,FL. The vehicle roughly changed gears. Then we entered a very busy highway and went to accelerate and lost power, and acted like it wanted to stall the drive triain light then lit up. The vehicles behind blew their horns because the vehicle slowed substantialy without showing brake lights. We took the vehicle to the Ford garage ,and charged us for analizing the problem and the cost and installation of the throttlebody. The service representative told us he fthought it would be the throttle body, prior to analizing it. After researching Ford vehicle problems on the computer,I found that this is a common problem with the Ford vehicles. This is a problem that could cause very serious rea end collisions, and should be the responsibility of the Ford motor to repair and to resolve the problem. Thisshould not be a failur of this part on a vehicle with low mileage especially.

Was driving family back to out cabin in pigeon fodge TN, all of sudden in three lanes of traffic our SUV made a sudden surge and lost forward motion speed dropped and it would not go above 1 grand on tachometer. It would crawl but barley. Traffic behind me started blowing their horns. I hit the emergency lights. And started to getus off the parkway. We made it. The yellow wrench appeared on the dash and the SUV idled very ruff. I turned it off. Waited looked under the dash. Got the family out because it was hot outside. Then did not learn anything from hood up. Started the SUV back up and it ran. Got te family back in the SUV and went back to cabin. Thanks that is all I know. We have to go back home in morning so I hope I can make it 3 hour trip.
I had just turned left under an underpas and was in the middle lane under an overpass I remember thinking "wow. This is apowerful engine. " a car was coming in front of me and when I braked it did not slow down and I hit the car and that's all I remember when I came too the horn was blowing and two people were pounding on my windows and my emergency bag had deployed, I was released. They gave me first aid until the ambulance came, treated me and took me to the emergency room. The other driver was not injured. They kept me overnight. I believe because I had a concussion. I was very confused. They kept me overnight and went home the next day. The damage to my vehicle was in access of $16,000. 00.
Smart junction box failure. Part# 5l8z15604ga this part controls many of the electronic elements of the vehicle; directional signals, hazard lights instrument panel, horn, locks, windows, security system. Various electrical elements fail intermittently because of this defective part. The part is on back-order and continues to be pushed to a later date. As of 11/16, the part is on back-order until Jan 17, 2011. I have seen other complaints about this issue, and see that the part has been on back-order since (at least) August 2010. There is obviously a high demand for this part, or it is being redesigned and Ford is trying to avoid a recall.
The vehicle stalled. Once while the vehicle was in the drive, the horn began to blow, and the lights started to blink. No one was in the vehicle or had touched the vehicle. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealership to be repaired, however they were unable to repair it because they could not duplicate the problems. The vehicle also rolled away with the ignition locked, keys removed and vehicle in park. Also the accelerator became stuck on four occasions. A representative from told the consumer the reason why the vehicle rolled away, was because the emergency brake had not been applied.

Horn switch usually does not actuate horn, when pressed. Dealer reports that they are all that way. If so, they should all be redesigned and replaced.
