1 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2011 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 02/22/2022

I tried to get fuel late at night in winter warning after work and upon doing so, the nozzle at the gas station would not fit properly to fuel the tank. Gas began to leak out as I was fueling the vehicle, squirting up onto my body and clothing. I did not understand why the nozzle did not fit, however I needed desperately to get gas so that I could return home in a mountainous area where I live. I tried filling the gas tank slowly to no avail. Then I proceeded to another gas station as there are not many around, and again nozzle would not enter the tank. This time I couldn't even turn on the pump. After inspecting the situation, I could see that the fuel tank area looked as though the hole for the tank no longer accepted nozzles, the fuel filler area seemed to have slipped and I now I am unable to get gas at all. There was no warning- this just happened suddenly, putting me in a dangerous situation, with gasoline on my clothing, freezing temperatures and nearly stranded. Luckily I had enough gas to get home, however I can not fuel my tank and this could have been a dire straights emergency.

2 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2012 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 02/27/2018

Extremely dangerous!! this vehicle will, without warning, lose power. The engine does not shutdown, but it loses power as minimal fuel is getting to engine. Steering not lost, electrical systems seem ok, but no response when stepping on accelerator. This has happened numerous, random times without warning or regard to any conditions I can determine (weather, speed, amount of fuel in the tank, traffic conditions). This issue has happened at highway speeds where you somehow have to steer car out of the way of traffic going 60+ mph! this could cause a huge accident and even lead to some deaths - it is very unnerving! the issue also happens at other times, non-highway driving, sometimes when stopped at a traffic signal, even just pulling out of the driveway! it is random and without warning. It is extremely dangerous to the occupants of this vehicle and any vehicle that may wreck into it due to this issue. When it does happen, the wrench light illuminates, but there is no response from the accelerator. Thus far, if the vehicle is put in park, turned off, then restarted, it usually restarts - until the next random time it occurs. It seems to be related to the throttle body or something in that path. There is space for only one occurrence of this, but this issue has occurred at least 20 times in the last 4 weeks. Mechanic cannot find any codes in the archive, so they can't fix it. One other thing, the vehicle will sometimes unexpectedly surge when accelerating.

7 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2009 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 05/16/2016

The vehicle has been leaking fuel since Feb. 2016 the engine light came on and I've replaced the evap. Canister due to the leak, the seal with it as well, and the canister purge valve. All this work was done at 2 different Ford dealerships. I was still leaking fuel and wrote to Ford who told me to take it to the dealership and they would fix it gratis. At the dealership they told me it was the gasket going into the tank and that "should" take care of the problem. It didn't. Gas fumes still filled my car, and leaked gas all over the ground wherever I drove or parked. I returned to the dealership and told them I was still leaking fuel, but no engine light as in the last visit. They could smell it and see it had soaked the rear end of my vehicle. This time the mechanic told me there is a plastic ring around the top of the tank that was cracked and I would have to replace the whole tank and system for approximately $1000 additional on top of what I had already replaced. I asked him how all these mechanics could miss this?? and how can it crack if it's so tight in there unless the vehicle had been in an accident or is there a design flaw, or a failure of the part itself because of some problem in manufacturing. The car leaks while parked, in motion, and fills with gas fumes. I am terrified I may hit a pot hole and blow up. Myself I don't mind, but I have my 2yo grandson with me and that is just scary as all get out. And there is no engine light that comes on for this. He tells me the part seals as the system compresses when starting and the gas expands with heat that's why the overflow. That may explain some, but I lose a tank of gas every 2-4 days. If the break is at the top how is the gas leaving my tank in such extraordinary amounts? and the only people who serviced that car were Ford "mechanics". Computer illiterate for uploads, but I have documentation& pics.

8 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2002 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 08/02/2015

The fuel tank mounting strap rusted through and began dragging on the highway sending up a shower of sparks. Upon investigation, I found the metal shield around the tank disintegrated into rust flakes, and the shield where it passes over the driveshaft had fallen and was rubbing on the moving driveshaft. I recognised the problem and was able to secure the tank and shield temporarily to limp home, but the potential for disaster is catastrophic, especially here in the northeast where these parts are continually subject to salt and snow.

9 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2009 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 09/20/2014

Vehicle stalled about 2 weeks ago. Oil change light and low tire pressure light came on a week later. Had maintenance done a week later. I was not notified about any recalls. Noticed that the steering wheel was really loose after rotate and balance was done. Took car to dealership and reported issue with steering. Dealership stated that it may need alignment but could not do service until next week. Put gas in car and vehicle stalled. Battery and oil light came on. After a few more times was able to get it started. Stalled again stalled again at stop light. Made it to auto parts shop and put fuel injection fluid in tank. Car stalled. Finally started again. Made it to repair shop. Did diagnostic tests no codes reported. They examined the fuel and it was good. They guessed that the fuel pump may need replacing. I researched recalls on my VIN and found that there are 2 recalls on the vehicle that were never performed. Purchased vehicle in may. Never received recall notices. Repair shops and dealerships are not checking for recalls when diagnosing problems.

10 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2010 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 12/03/2013

Was driving the vehicle on the interstate at about 60 mph and exited safely. Went through typical stop-and-go rush hour traffic for about 2 minutes until reaching work, in which the campus' speed is set to 25 mph throughout. Vehicle was traveling on work campus a little under 30 mph. Suddenly, the car stalled and the battery and oil warning lights had come on. Steering the vehicle to a safe parking place was difficult as the steering wheel had become tight. Once safely parked, the vehicle was turned off and after 5 seconds turned back on. The engine started up normally. Started driving the vehicle closer to where it was needed to be parked and the engine stalled again after 1000 feet and the steering went tight again. Turned off the vehicle again and after 5 seconds attempted to turn it back on. The engine had trouble starting but after an abnormal amount of time trying to turn over, the engine did. Was able to get the vehicle in the appropriate parking area. Vehicle has full tank of gasoline, 2000 miles over oil change recommendation by dealer, and factory battery. Vehicle has never been off-road but has been subject to easy snow accumulations since purchased from dealership.

11 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2010 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 08/20/2013

I bought vehicle 2010 Ford Escape in August of 2011. In February of 2011 I was driving down a city road going about 30 mph and my Escape starting stalling out would not accelerate wrench light came on. I pulled into a parking lot and it was idiling rough like it was going to stall out. I put my Escape into park pushed slightly on gas pedal it made no difference with my foot on the brake I switched it into gear made no difference. I put car back into park and turned it off. Waited a few minutes started it. It started right up with no problems. I ran fuel cleaner through it. I did not have anymore problems until Thursday Aug 15th 2013. I was driving down city road going about 30 mph it did the same thing again. Started stalling out would not pick up acceleration running rough wrench light came on pulled into parking lot barley idling sputtering like it was going to stall I put car into park turned engine off waited a few minutes. Turned back on. My car started fine ran fine like nothing happened again. So today 8/20/13 im going down busy traffic country two lane road no where to pull car off on side safely. And again all of a sudden going about 35 mph I loose acceleration car starts sputtering I cant accelerate running rough wrench light came on I coasted up to stop sign as I had nowhere to safely pull car off road and put car in park turn off engine started engine right back up car ran fine. This is a saftey issue. I thought at first my fuel filter may be the problem but as im reading the 2010 Ford Escapes have a guaranteed lifetime fuel filter inside the fuel tank cannot replace it. So as I was reading more in depth I see a lot of people having the same problem as I am with their 2010 Escapes. I now see the problem is a throttle body issue defect and an investigation is going on. Ford needs to do something about this before people wind up in crashes over this.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2002 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 08/10/2012

To start off the idle control valve needed to be replaced because when you push the clutch in it dies and you loose all power , another is the bushing in the control arm slipped out of the arm mount so I had to replace it and another that just happened is the gas tank strap and support pan broke and plastic gas tank hit the ground on one end and the other is grinding on the drive shaft. And the Ford dealership wont fix anything cause it ain't considered powertrain.
