Ford Escape owners have reported 8 problems related to starter solenoid (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Ford Escape based on all problems reported for the Escape.
The nut connecting the battery cable to the solenoid was cross threaded at the factory causing the vehicle not to start. I feel this is a safety issue and Ford does not agree.

Tl the contact owns a 2017 Ford Escape. When the vehicle was started, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The contact opened the hood and noticed that rodents had entered the engine compartment and chewed through the hoses to the turbo charger, the radiator cap, coolant wires, intake manifold lines, and the purge solenoid. The vehicle was towed to montgomery motors (214 s main st, troy, nc 27371, (910) 572-1351) to be repaired. The contact was informed that the electrical wires were made from soy based material, which needed to be replaced. The vehicle was currently being repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 21,000.

Takata recall my vehicle had endless issues and problems. I would drive a mile or so to gas station, turn off car, get gas and then the car wouldn't start or drive 15 miles, do a job, 30 minutes later get in and the car wouldn't start. It took several times for the vehicle to turn over and then stay running. I would throw it into gear to get the engine running and sometimes it'd be fine, other times it would bog down and stall. I got into an accident and my car was totaled. I had mechanics look at the issue and they would say the O2 sensor, wastegate solenoid or evap leak. They would nickel and dime me with all these little things. The codes were, p0234,p26b7 and p0456. They said coolant was getting into the fuel system and that was contributing to the stalling and problems. I had to see a chiropractor after my accident due to spinal pain and discomfort. However, it was worth this getting rid of this lemon once and for all. If anyone else is experiencing these problems, post the fix so that it can save someone else from financial, emotional and physical pain. I didn't let anyone drive my vehicle(wife/family) because I never knew when it would stall and where.

I have a 2003 Escape that has a interesting problem with the rear hatch. When it is hot out side or the sun is shinning on the rear hatch the lock will not unlock, all the other doors do. When it gets dark or the door cool down the nit will unlock with the rest of the doors. Our rear hatch. Intermittently working and then not working at all. After looking in the search engine on this forum, under "rear hatch won't open" I found a posting listing the part # for the solenoid only, from an aftermarket source. (Ford makes you buy the whole handle and actuator assy. For $200 or so). The solenoid was $10 plus shipping. Installation was straight forward except the rod that connects the solenoid to the mechanism needs to be modified and the wires spliced instead of the modular plug on the stock one. If your not that mechanical, you may want the dealership to do it , but if you have some skills, you can save a lot of money! (if Ford had put a freaking key hole on the rear hatch it wouldn't be such a big deal) search the threads and you will find the post for the part. Hope this helps.

Just purchased a certified pre-owned 2014 Ford Escape se. A yellow check engine light appear. Trouble code p26b7 (dealer specific). It looks like there have been numerous issues with the bypass coolant solenoid or coolant leaks. Also, steering wheel controls only occasionally work.
2009 Ford Escape 3. 0 246,000 miles, have had all recall items replaced. Problems with starter continuously engaged, spark and melt positive wire. Replaced starter, tumbler and ignition module. 5 months later same event occurred. Starter continuously engaged, smoke and sparks from replaced starter. Mechanic replaced starter, starter solenoid and ignition module located directly behind ignition tumbler. Still having same issue with starter running continuously, mechanic suspects possible wiring harness compromised from previous high voltage drain damage. Replacement of wiring harness may be the only option to correct issue.

Vct solenoids and cam sensors are faulty. The vehicle stalls randomly, engine lags and exibits poor fuel mpg. The problem occured just out of warranty and upon research; I have discovered this issue is very vast with 2009-2011 Ford Escapes, Mercury mariners, 2010-2011 Ford fusion and Mercury milan vehicles equipped with the 3. 0l engine and built on or before 3-1-2011. My 2009 Ford Escape and many others vehicles should be recalled at no cost out of warranty.
Took my vehicle in to Ford dealer due to check engine light stuck on. Diagnostics pulled 2 codes, p0011 & p0012. These 2 codes are major engine problems!! both solenoids need to be replaced, and possibly have to replace both cylinder heads and cam shafts if head and camshafts show wear = thus a very very expensive engine repair cost for me!! the Ford dealership said this is only covered under warranty up to 60,000 miles: my Escape had only 63,296 miles on 4-2-13, the day I went to the dealership. I'm climbing up the tree at Ford motor company an feel I have a "lemon" Ford vehicle!! I want to know why Ford motor company did not send out any recall notices to 2009 Ford Escape owners regarding this major-major engine malfunction = serious engine repair costs to me due to their negligence !! I am over the warranty timeline by 3,296 miles !!! I should not have to pay for this engine repair !!.
