I bought my car new in 2009. Summer of 2011, it started dying when stopped at red lights or any stops. It did this mostly when it was . 25 tank of gas or less and the warmer the weather. I took it to three different mechanics and no one could figure out what was truly wrong. When they plugged it in all it says is emission problem. It happened so inconsistently it was hard to explain or diagnose. I had Ford replace a vapor sensor of some sort in summer of 2012 when it was doing it again. It has never ran the same since 2011 when I first had problems. Now it is losing power as I drive down the road. It loses power completely, you push the gas and there is nothing and I have to pull over or let it roll to a stop and it jerks or dies. I am taking it to Ford service tomorrow and once it is fixed I am trading it in and not buying another Ford again.

Letter from congressman brown on behalf of constituent regarding problems with her 2009 Ford Escape; she has an arbitration date on June 28 in columbus, ohio; please respond directly to the cleveland office the consumer stated the vehicle has been to the dealer on five occasions because the vehicle would jump/lunge while engaging it into drive or reverse. Within the last year, the vehicle began to lung/jump while driving down the highway. The vehicle has also been to the dealer six times for a rear leaking window. The weather striping was replaced, but the leak continued. Recently, when the consumer filled the gas tank, it only registered a half tank. Also, there was a vibration coming from the vehicle while driving 25 mph.
Driving to dover DE. Pulled into gas station outside lancaster PA for fuel. Filled tank and went to pull away from pump. Heard something dragging and found fuel tank strap had snapped and left fuel tank dragging on driveshaft.
Fuel tank vent system does not function properly. Fuel filler nozzle does not shut off, resulting in fuel overfilling from the fill tube and spilling out around the vehicle. . . Seems like this could result in a fire.

Can not fill gas tank, pump shuts off every 30 seconds. Does not matter if tank is empty or not. This problem has continued to get worse over time.
Gas gauge reads between 1/2 & 1/4, car ran out of gas this morning. Aaa brought gas, I went to a gas station and filled the tank. Gas gauge still reads only 1/2 full.
My wife's 2002 Ford Escape has aprox 40k on it the steel cover that goes over the plastic gas tank is rotting away and dropping off rusty parts I hope that emissions would cover this. The strap has some rust but I am concerned we live in the northeast with salt on our roads.
I own a 2006 Ford Escape XLT . For the past month or so, whenever I try to fill up my gas tank with gas, the gas pump turns off, preventing me from fueling up. I have tried different gasoline companies and the problem still exists. Everywhere I go, the gas pump will click off on me as if the gas tank is full. I have to pull out the gas nozzle, place it back in and it then turns off again. Happens over and over. Takes me approx. 15 minutes to fill up tank. I have contacted Ford & they claim that they have never heard of such a thing & that there is no recall for gasoline fill-up problems. Yet, if you research the internet you will see tons of people who are having the same gasoline fill-up problem.
I have a 2005 Ford Escape and for the last 6 months or more there has been a problem with putting gas in the vehicle. I can only put in approx. $2 at a time if not less before the nozzle clicks off. I searched the internet to find that other owners of my vehicle are having the same problem. One person posted that Ford informed him that there could be a spider in the gas line amongst other excuses. In the end, he posted that there was no resolution to his problem and it still takes approx. 15 minutes to fill the tank. When I called Ford, they told me the same thing about the spider and informed me that there would be a $106 charge to simply look at the vehicle. Knowing this charge and the fact that others have posted that even after their vehicle was looked at it still has this problem, I decided to not have it looked at. Today, again, it took me over 10 minutes to fill the gas tank and gas continuously spills out onto the car and it constantly clicks off. It is getting very annoying.

The car was making a noise. The repair shop found that the gas tank was scraping on the drive shaft because the strap that holds the gas tank and shield in place had rusted through and broken in half causing the gas tank to fall down on the drive shaft. Luckily I did not drive very far with this situation because the drive shaft would have put a hole in the gas tank and could have potentially caused a fire.
On five (5) occasions of filling up my 2004 Ford Escape gas tank there has been gas spillage. Gas will come flying back out of the tank after the pump cuts off. I took the Escape back to the dealership and was told nothing was clogging or impeding the flow of gas. I was told not to use the automatic pump because the flow of gas might be too fast. I do not use the automatic pump anymore and the problem still occurs. When the pump sits in the opening for the tank the pump is at an uneven level and even when I pump slowly spillage still occurs. (it takes 5 minutes for me to get 8 gallons of gas. I've timed it. ) the problem has occurred at several different gas stations. I have also talked with another owner of a Ford Escape and he/she does not have this problem. I have to keep a full bottle of water in my car to rinse off the spilled gas before it dries on the side of my car. This is an annoying problem and I'm tired of dealing with it.
Fuel smell inside vehicle when starting engine.
