Failure Date: 10/19/2016

Engine wiring assembly failure (cv62*14290 & cv62*12a690) at 29,000 miles. Advised by dealer service advisor vehicle too dangerous to drive as car may stall or stop. I first learned of this as I was driving on 4 lane highway, 10/8/16 & warning notice came on. Vehicle hesitated while on freeway. Sensor replaced at dealer. Problem recurred on 10/19/16. Again on interstate & engine hesitation, moved to right lane for fear of stall. Dealer diagnosed engine wiring assembly failure. I contacted Ford & was informed that my 1. 6 engine not covered by similar recall (14s17) for 2. 0 engine & car out of warranty. Ford customer service assigned a case number.

38 Wiring problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 08/09/2016

On 8/09/16 my Escape stalled repeatedly while driving on a rural highway at 50 mph. Limped to the dealership on 8/10/16. Dropped my vehicle off about 10 a. M. Mechanic searched most of that day but did not find problem, early the next morning found problem, it was the splice in the electrical wiring harness could not send proper signal to the engine. My car was previously recalled to correct this problem. Recall 14s17-s1. Currently Ford issued a recall again to start on January 4 2016. I had to pay to have the splice problem fixed, asked, dealer why should I pay for a Ford manufacturing problem. They said my VIN number was not on the Ford recall list. This problem has been ongoing since 2013, VIN number should not give Ford a excuse to select a controlled list of Escapes so they do not have to pay for fixing this problem, no matter when it occurs just an excuse so they save money by sticking it to the dealer or customer. Ford should honor the above recall no matter how old the car is.

A warning indicator will appear on the dash stating "engine malfunction service now". The car shudders, jerks, hesitates and can stall when the throttle is pushed. Pulling over, powering the car down, and turning it back on seems to temporarily resolve it. Issue may be associated with high temperatures since this was serviced in August of 2016. After 5 trips to the dealer with repairs related to the wiring harness, I was told it was resolved. The problem has recurred starting in June of this year. Went to the Ford dealer again and they failed to diagnose. Drove it to the dealer in failure mode with warning displayed to prove there is an issue. This happens when in motion. I have video of the error display.

46 Wiring problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Correspondence with flood Ford of east greenwich, ri michael whyte (Ford service adviser), crash risk with 2013 Ford Escape (stalling while driving and also lack of being able to accelerate vehicle while engine is running). Vehicle was brought to 2 different Ford dealers for same problem and was told that they could diagnose and/or replicate problem. This issue and circumstance has been reported numerous times upon goggle searches (please see below). I contacted the Ford customer relationship center again today to document the situation surrounding our vehicle (case # 8980601). Please note that I had contacted them originally on February 29th (case #8916920) and they referred me to the flood dealership after we had brought the vehicle to the tasca dealership on February 28th and 29th. They tried to contact the service department at flood Ford at 4:00pm today but were not able to get through. I also contacted the consumers for auto reliability and safety and they responded back with the following message and strongly emphasized not to drive the vehicle because of the potential crash risk. I am also in the process of reporting the defect to the national highway traffic safety administration and have also contacted the wjar consumer advocate department surrounding our dilemma to see if they can help us as well. Hopefully the experts at Ford can help provide additional insights as to how to best address this situation. . Read more...

50 Wiring problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 08/24/2014

While traveling down a highway at approximately 50 mph, our vehicle suddenly lost power, red lights came on the dashboard, vehicle continued running but gas pedal did not respond. Coasted to a stop along shoulder, turned vehicle off, waited a couple of minutes, restarted without incident. 12 volt plugs remained off. Called Ford dealership today. They say this issue will be covered in another recall from Ford, has to do with the electrical wiring harness which shorts out, however replacement part not available at this time. Had we been on the freeway in seattle as we were earlier in the day, this would have caused a rear end accident for sure. We feel Ford has left us with an undependable vehicle, several recalls already and now this very serious safety issue. We no longer feel we can travel safely in this vehicle even after this next recall is repaired. Quality control is definitely absent, who knows what else will be recalled at this rate.

54 Wiring problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 05/31/2014

On 5/31/14, upon starting vehicle (2. 0 l, sel), vehicle running rough, sputtering, lurching when accelerator was depressed, etc. Message on dash screen stated "engine fault - service now". Drove car approximately 8 miles to a Ford dealer I was not familiar with. Turned car off but then decided to move car. Started car, all issues disappeared, so I left and drove car 35 miles to my home with no issues. Drove car until 6/20/14 when exact symptoms happened again. Drove car with symptoms occurring to local Ford dealer. Mechanic suspected cooing system problem, turned off engine without hooking up to computer for diagnosis. Minutes later, mechanic decided problem was not cooling system related since Escape was a 2. 0 l (cooling system problems apparently occur with 1. 6 l models), but was instead the map sensor which was replaced on 6/26/14. Next day (6/27/14) after map sensor replacement, same exact issues. No time to take to a dealer, so I shut it off and restarted it and all symptoms disappeared. Drove regularly until 7/16/14, when exact symptoms occurred again. Drove directly to local Ford dealer, left it running. They hooked up the diagnostic computer while running which showed error code related to map sensor again. Explained to mechanic that my research has indicated that TSB 13-12-12 might address the problem which is related to wiring in the "signal return splices. " he agreed. Made appointment for next day, 7/17/14. Upon starting on 7/17/14, same symptoms. Turned off, restarted, symptoms cleared and I drove it with no issues to my local Ford dealer. Local dealer called and said they looked at the wire splices, made some "adjustments" (no new parts) and that vehicle is ready for pick up. If this occurs again, which I believe it will, I will ask for wire harness replacement to the signal return(s). Dangerous, well-documented problem.

On March 15, 2014, the vehicle stalled and lost all power. The only message that displayed said to put the vehicle in park. Fortunately, the vehicle started again. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but a diagnostic test didn't reveal any problems. The dealer kept the vehicle for 2 weeks, with no success in finding a problem. The next morning, the engine fault service no error message appeared on the dash. When his wife attempted to drive away, the vehicle accelerated sharply and took off down the road at a high rate of speed, leaving her with no control of the acceleration or speed of the vehicle. She applied the brakes, and the vehicle stopped. The consumer drove the vehicle to the dealer, and on the way there, it repeatedly sputtered and then it suddenly accelerated and lunged forward all the way to dealer. Even the engine fault code displayed on the dash, the mechanic was unable to get an error code on the computer. The mechanic test drove the vehicle with the consumer, and it was then the vehicle exhibited everything the consumer was referring to. When I turn the key on, not starting it the check emission comes on and the dealership tells me this is normal. . My gas mileage is 12 mpg and im afraid it is happening again soon. . I dont know what to do and I was told it may be the wiring harness causing this issue. . I dont know why no one will get to the route of the problem why the computer in my Escape keeps failing. They wont let me trade it in since it is not any value to them anymore. .

59 Wiring problem of the 2001 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 02/23/2012

I went to start the car and noticed smoke coming out from under the hood and a bad smell. I opened the hood and noticed the area under the master cylinder was on fire. Luckily I had a small co2 fire extinguisher and put it out. The entire wiring harness is burned right off where it plugs into the ans module. After searching the internet it seems there is a problem with this make and model. I always wondered why I had to put brake fluid in twice per year. I hope the dealer doesn't try to rip me off and say it's not covered for some reason. They do not like to fix factory recalls.

62 Wiring problem of the 2001 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 05/12/2010

I have a 2001 Ford Escape. While staying at a hotel on vacation in marfa, TX, I was awakened by my car alarm going of at approximately 5:30 am on may 12, 2010. When I went outside to turn it off, I found smoke pouring out from under the hood. Our neighbor called 911, and the car continued to smoke until the fire department arrived. As the fire dept. Was inspecting the car, flames did appear from the abs wiring harness and module. The fire was extinguished quickly and damage was confined to the abs harness and module. I had received a recall notice for the abs harness a couple of years ago, and took my car to a dealership in austin to have the necessary work performed. That work was performed on August 6, 2008. When I contacted Ford to let them know that my car had caught fire even though the recall was performed, they informed me that their records showed that the abs harness on my car was inspected and it was determined that it did not need to be replaced. As of may 16, 2010, my car is still at a Ford dealership in fort stockton, TX and I am at home in austin waiting to hear from Ford's office of general council.

63 Wiring problem of the 2008 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 01/26/2010

Defect in vehicle wiring harness - my car has been at the dealership for repairs since 01/30/2010. The dealership stated my vehicle was not safe to drive due to the wires corroding and causing mechanical failures on this vehicle. The dealership had ordered the new wiring system as an emergency "order" on 01/30/2010 but due to this being such an overwhelming issue Ford cant keep up with the demand for the replacement parts ! this is a 2008 Ford Escape 4x4, I should not being experiencing any problems with a new vehicle that only has 46 thousand miles on it. Of course nothing is covered under warranty when your wires corrode and catch fire. The damages so far are around $800. 00. My son and I both smelled something burning from the truck but couldn't locate the source of the smell. Once in the Ford dealership I was told it was the wiring that had corroded due to road salt and that this is a very common occurrence and that they are hoping for a recall due to the volume. Unfortunately for me this will be all out of pocket expenses. Being told that this is a "notorious" issue does not ease my mind when the safety of myself and my children were at risk !!.

64 Wiring problem of the 2001 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 03/27/2009

Mar 27 had 2001 Ford Escape in dealership for oil leak and engine hesitation. Leak not fixed on 1st time taken to dealer. #3 coil, intake gaskets replaced & tuneup done for hesitation. Mar 31 vehicle taken back for same problems, #4 coil was replaced and was told no oil leak, also told engine not supposed to be washed and water blew out #4 coil. On the way home, still smelled burning oil & engine hesitation still felt. Called dealership, was told to let the car sit for a day. Car sat for 2 days. Car still drove the same, oil leak & hesitation still there. Took vehicle straight back to the dealership, on the way there vehicle had no power and would not go faster than 15mph. Then the egr valve blew. And I live 2 miles from the dealership. Dealership had the vehicle from Apr 1 to Apr 15. Now I was told the catalytic converters on the manifolds are plugged up and this is causing the hesitation and the oil leak was from the timing chain cover. Dealership had to remove the engine to replace the gasket. Was told they don't know how they missed this leak the other 2 times I took the vehicle in for this leak. Only thing the warranty covered is the oil leak. Federal mandated emission law is 8yrs or 80,000 miles. Vehicle is in the 8 years and @ 75,500 miles. Ford refuses to do anything about the converters. Took Escape to local mechanic Apr 17. Exhaust inspection showed only the rear catalytic converter plugged (replaced now). #4 & #6 coils not firing. Coils work connected in other sparkplug locations. Wiring for coils not working. These coil locations worked prior to going back to dealership. Mechanic said I should sue the dealership for misdiagnosis and breaking additional items when engine was removed. Mechanic also ran diagnostic, no codes coming up, dealership reset pcm to old programming, so vehicle now hesitates & dies. Wife still wants to keep vehicle. Told her no. Already shopping for anything other than Ford.

65 Wiring problem of the 2005 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 05/02/2008

About 6 weeks ago, my wife called me at work to report her 2005 Escape "made a funny noise" when she tried to start it. When I got home that afternoon, I went to investigate it. When I put the key in and turned it on, it exploded. The intake manifold disentergrated and schrapnel from it severed wiring harness, knocked parts off etc. Having 39k miles on it I had it towed to a local top rated mechanic. After the mechanic repaired the mechanical damage, he sent it to beach Ford for a pcm issue. They replaced the pcm (under Ford warranty, admitting that the computer was ?fried? and this has been a problem with other Escapes) but absolves any knowledge or responsibility as to why the explosion occurred in the first place because a ?third party person? repaired the car before beach Ford saw it. A ?mike? at Ford customer service who based on conversations with beach Ford, said that repairs by a third party precludes Ford from any responsibility as to why the car exploded in the first place. My mechanic has done internet research and found other reports of pcm issues with the Escapes causing problems from failures to explosions. A tech at the Ford dealer said it has to do with stray voltage being induced into the wiring and going back up into the pcm, but then Ford and the service director denied any knowldege of this. Ford said the car is repaired (at my expense) and washed their hands of this situation leaving me with a car that has only 39,000 miles on it and exploded in my driveway causing sever damage, and no attempt to investigate why it happened. I have all the damaged parts that were replaced and told Ford that. No one will address why it exploded in the first place. What if this happened at 55 mph vice in my driveway, or my wife was home and I opened the hood and had her start the car so I could listen for that noise she said? please help me out.
