1 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2000 Ford Excursion

Failure Date: 08/17/2004

2 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2000 Ford Excursion

Failure Date: 10/01/2001

Extended braking distances reported to dealership within first 20,000 kms. Impossible to invoke antilock pulsing on hard braking on dry pavement. Dealer checked full brake system and found no problems. Aftermarket pads improved the problem. Repeated warping of rotors for the first 50-60,000 kms, then mysteriously only minor warping on extended brake use.

3 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2000 Ford Excursion

Failure Date: 08/19/2001

While passing on a two lane road, the vehicle I was passing swerved into my lane. I had to apply the brakes very forcefully and when I did so, the brakes pulled the steering so hard to the left I nearly lost controlof the vehicle. Following this situation I tested both my Excursion and my Ford f-350 and both vehicles swerve hard to left during forceful emergency braking. I should also note that at 36,000 miles, my Excursion was serviced under warranty for brake pulling and pulsating. The rotors and pads were replaced however, I do not believe this warranty service is related to the severe pulling during emergency braking. I believe the braking problem is structural in origin and is going to result in some number of fatalities. I know that it my case, I came to the brink of an unsurvivable accident.

4 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2001 Ford Excursion

Failure Date: 01/10/2001

When applying brakes at any speed vehicle pulls either to left or right. Dealer turned rotors and replaced brake pads, checked wheel alignment. ( 1000 miles ) in March vehicle was taken back to dealer for the same problem, dealer turned rotors again, vehicle still pulls to sides when brakes are applied.

5 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2000 Ford Excursion

During the first three months of ownership this vehicle was returned to three different Ford delerships to coorect poor breaking performance. During hard braking the vehicle pulls hard to the left. At each dealership the rotors were turned and swapped from side to side, the pads were replaced and the suspension was realigned. During one occasion I almost lost control of the vehicle and crossed into oncoming traffic on a two lane road. I was told by greenway Ford, during one of the visits in early 2001. That this is a known problem by Ford and their engineers are studying the problem. The final result of each repair has been the same the vehicle continues to pull hard to the left during hard braking. Now at 31500 miles the vehicle suddenly began to sudder uncontrollably while braking. The vehicle was taken back to a Ford dealership where the rotors were turned. The pads had minimal wear. I was told by the dealership that Ford Excursions require the rotors to be turned yearly. This condition is a safety hazard and needs to be corected. Dt.
