1 Brake Light On problem of the 2016 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 10/09/2020

While driving the vehicle at approx 35 mph on a city street. The brakes were lightly applied upon approaching a traffic light. The pedal, without any warning, went straight to the floor with no resistance and then the brake warning light came on. Pumping the brakes allowed the vehicle to slowly decelerate but, pedal travel consistently went full throw. A visual inspection showed an empty fluid reservoir and no indication of an external leak. The break down shows the master cylinder failed and was diverting the brake fluid into the boost assembly. The vehicle has 56,511 miles on it.

2 Brake Light On problem of the 2016 Ford Expedition

3 Brake Light On problem of the 2017 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 08/21/2020

Started car, apply brake to shift into gear. All of the sudden, the brake pedal went straight to the floor and the low brake fluid light came on and the car started to roll so I applied the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. And put back into park.

4 Brake Light On problem of the 2018 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 07/01/2020

Under warranty, moisture was present in all the rear brake lights. The upper (third) brake light had the most condensation. An authorized Ford dealer reviewed the issue and advised Ford does not cover moisture within a light as the moisture will dissipate over time. I advised the upper brake light was never dry, they insisted warranty would not cover the issue. I could replace the light, I received a quote at that time. Now the upper brake light has less than 2 led's working and the visibility is next to nothing. Reviewing forums, this is an issue that has been present in the Ford Expeditions since the new vehicle design change. My concern is very simple, that brake light is important in the safety of our passengers, those around the vehicle and the vehicle itself. We have not been in a rear end collision with this vehicle, but it is difficult to see braking of this vehicle ahead when the vehicle is one car ahead of you based on what I have seen when driving behind this vehicle myself. I consider this brake light a significant component of the safety features in our vehicle. Timing of the issue was over a period of time. First phase was moisture not dissipating, second phase has been the led lighting continues to stop working, a few led's at first, now only a few are operational, and dim at best due to the continued moisture in the upper rear brake light assembly.

5 Brake Light On problem of the 2016 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/21/2019

I was traveling away from home and was towing my boat (about 4k weight). No performance issues or warning lights on the trip thus far. When leaving the hotel we stayed in, I pressed the brake to put the truck in gear. The brake pedal went straight to the floor. All the way down. The low brake fluid light came on and the brake warning light was illuminated too. The fluid reservoir, topped off a week before, was completely empty, yet no fluid was on the ground. Got the truck towed to a Ford dealer. Needed a new master cylinder and brake booster, saying that the seal between those 2 parts failed and the fluid quickly transferred from the previously sealed master cylinder into the brake booster. Doing a bit of research, I see a NHTSA recall on f-150s that have the same master cylinder and booster. I also see an investigation underway for '15 and '16 f150s for brake failure. And I see story upon story of Expedition owners on the Expedition forum describing the same critical, potentially catastrophic failure. I'm grateful the truck was stopped when it failed. I truly feel I would not be here describing the situation to you if it had failed on the highway, on a boat ramp, or even in a city. It's remarkable to me that possibly a $2. 00 seal (part) could have cost me my life, or those also in the truck. It's unacceptable to allow trucks to remain on the road with a cheap part that can fail that easily, likely causing death or significant injury to self and those you run into. Ford can do better. Nhtsa can do better. Let's get this recalled before others die unnecessarily.

6 Brake Light On problem of the 2016 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/12/2019

The check brake light turned on. The brake fluid reservoir was empty. Refilled and drained immediately with no visible leaks from system. Pedal could be pressed to floor without activating brakes. Mechanic determined that master cylinder was defective and leaking into booster.

Failure Date: 01/04/2019

Brake light comes on while driving then no brakes! unless you push the pedal real hard then it makes a grinding sound! when you stop vehicle stop the engine and let it sit for a few minutes, then start it, the brake light stays off and everything works fine again! this happened twice! the first time was March 2018 we then took to dealer and they charged to install new booster and some other device. Today Jan 4th 2019 the same thing happened!.

8 Brake Light On problem of the 2017 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 03/16/2018

After driving in moderate rain for 15 miles and then braking in moderate rain, a loud grinding noise was heard, brake pedal became hard and no braking action was available. I was able to safely get the vehicle to the shoulder and come to a top using uphill grade of the road way. The vehicle was taken to the woodhouse Ford dealership in blair, ne. Brake message light was on. The service technician wrote the following: "usind ids found code c109d-20 as the only code stored. Performed vacuum system checks. Checked for leaks through lines, passed. Tested vacuum supply from intake at idle, about 19". Tested vacuum from vacuum pump, found vacuum pump to intermit fail to produce vacuum. Hoisted vehicle, removed and replaced vacuum pump. Reassembled vacuum lines and roa tested vehicle to verify repair. Post road test vehicle brake system functions properly at this time with normal pedal feel. ".

9 Brake Light On problem of the 2009 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 01/23/2015

The brake sensor has malfunctioned and I am not able to take the vehicle out of park. If I depressed the brake pedal multiple times, it will finally sense the brakes and let me drive. Also, sometimes during driving the brake lights will not illuminate when pressed. Ford has issued a recall for this problem based on the date of manufacture. However, my model was not included as it was build 6 months prior to the timeframe outlined by Ford. Clearly the recall needs to be expanded since the problem is occurring in a wider timeframe than was determined by Ford.

10 Brake Light On problem of the 2006 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 12/16/2005

Abs, roll stability control and general brake system lights came on at time of delivery of new car. Dealer "fixed" problem. Same symptoms occurred approximately 50 miles after taking delivery of car. Dealer techs. Cannot provide information if it is faulty sensor or if there is, in fact a fault in the braking system. Brakes seem to work, but am unwilling to test abs/rsc features with known problem with system.

11 Brake Light On problem of the 1997 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 04/02/2001

From a parking space at a strip mall I backed into a 3' concrete pole, when I applied my foot to the brake and put the vehicle in drive , the vehicle sped off as if I had floored the accelerator. No amount of pumping the brakes did any good. I hit two other cars, took out a brick column and didn't stop until I hit a second brick column. Witnesses say that they did see brake lights on my vehicle.
