1 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2016 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 05/05/2021

I was accelerating, turning left to enter a freeway on ramp. My speed was reduced to 1mph and I was unable to accelerate or control the car. When I pushed on the accelerator nothing happened it did not rev the engine. A pop up appeared with a wrench and the words "see owners manual" I was able to turn off the car and turn it back on. This allowed me to regain function. This happened with no warning at all. There is no check engine light or engine codes. This is extremely dangerous! I was in the middle of an intersection where cars were both entering and exiting the freeway. Fortunately I avoided an accident had this happened after I got on the freeway I might not have been so lucky! upon returning home I checked the owners manual and there is nothing about a wrench light in there.

Was traveling down highway and vehicle started running rough, check engine light came on and exited highway when safe and vehicle quit running and wouldn't restart. It seems the timing chain broke and then damaged the engine. Dealer rep said they have seen a lot of these, but not recalls yet.

3 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2015 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 01/27/2021

When pulling out into heavy traffic on a divided four lane road, the vehicle suddenly lost power and went into limp mode almost causing a serious accident. The check engine light came on and the code was later to be determined p2112 throttle actuator a control system stuck closed. After researching the issue it was apparent that the Ford 3. 5 ecoboost motor has quite a history of these type failures. Often driver safety is compromised as the vehicle suddenly and without warning will lose power just when you need it. The fix is to install a new throttle body with electronic actuator.

4 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2017 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 07/01/2020

While getting on interstate my 2017 Expedition el 4x4 was shifting and coming up to highway speed , when it seemed to run rough and felt like it missed a shift. I let off gas pedal, engine roughness temporarily went away. Now I'm getting closer to getting on highway , applied gas again and engine got rough running again and tool symbol appeared on dash . I lost all acceleration and power to wheels while trying to enter an interstate. Very dangerous and life threatening if I did not have a long shoulder to pull off on. Pulled over stopped engine. Let sit for 5 or so mins. Started up and tool symbol was gone. Got on highway up to speed this time then same thing happened again. Rough running , lost all power to wheels, tool symbol appeared again but got the check engine light this time. Luckily I was passing an exit and had time to get off interstate 77 before I got run over from behind. Stopped n restarted. Got truck to my mechanic and they pulled a throttle body code on the truck. I had them reset code to see if it happens again because I have an ally extended warranty which we'll see how using that goes. I am driving truck with less issues trying to get code to appear again to take to dealer for a fix. Have gotten the tool light to come on 2x but no check engine yet.

6 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2015 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 11/12/2019

The day after we bought this vehicle used had 78,000 miles on it we were driving on a 4 lane road about 60mph when the check engine light came on and it put itself into neutral. The gas peddle would not engage. After we turn it off and on a couple times we were able to drive it again. This has happened at least three times since we have owned it. We bought it 4 months ago. On three other occasions the check engine light came on while returning home from a 3 hour drive on a highway going 60mph down a hill and it was under powered but still drivable. We had one turbo replaced however the light has come on again but the dealer couldn't fix it because the check engine light cleared and they can't find anything wrong with it. Last week we were driving in town thankfully under 30mph and the break peddle got hard and couldn't be pressed down. A light came on that said break failure we had to engage the emergency break to stop. We had it towed no lights were on when it got to the dealership they put 30 miles on it trying to recreate the problem and couldn't get it to do it again. This vehicle is very unsafe it's a matter of time before it either shuts down in the middle of a busy highway or the breaks won't work and crashes into something or someone. We have a vehicle now that we cannot drive and cannot fix and if we trade it in we will be out a lot of money and this unsafe vehicle will be put back on the lot.

7 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2015 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 04/09/2019

On today's date, April 9, 2019 at approximately 4:20pm cdt, I was entering freeway accelerating to 40 mph when power was lost and quickly decelerated to under 5mph. Engine still running, but it went into limp home mode, no faster than 5mph. Was able to get to distress lane. Wrench symbol displayed on instrument cluster. Turned off engine and checked owners manual. . . Symbol indicated power train trouble. Turned on started ok, and continued to freeway speed. About 1 mile later, lost power again, slowing to limp mode. This time check engine and wrench lights came on and engine noticeably rough running. Turned off/on started ok, exited freeway and drove city streets home, about 3 miles. Check engine light never went off. Wrench light did go off after 2nd re-start. Manual recommends having Ford dealer check it out. That's what I'll be doing tomorrow. This spontaneous loss of power has risk of causing a crash from other driver's as sudden decelerations without brake light warning is very dangerous.

8 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2003 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 12/01/2018

Check engine light came on while driving home and the engine shut down 4 times each time the battery would die instantly. We had to keep jump starting it to get home. 2 days later the check engine light started flashing. Scanned it came back p0304 cylinder 5 misfire. Changed spark plugs and coils. Engine light went off. Ran obd2 scanner to double check codes. Code p2503 charging system low voltage . Took battery to advanced auto parts had them test it. The coca should have been 650cca and was at 11cca so bought a new battery. Next day took son to school less the 2 miles ran fine on my way home it died 3 times this time I would wait a few minutes then restart it. Check engine light never came on started searching on line and and calling mechanics. So bought new alternator. Started the truck to warm up after 5 minutes it shut down again waited a minute and started back up did it again. This time the battery light came on. So after searching many people were saying the fuseable link was bad so went to Ford had one ordered installed it to day. Battery light still on started it ran for 5 min and died again. So now I bought new spark plugs, coil packs, battery, alternator, fusible lin. Now obdii code b1676- battery pack voltage out of range tester battery fully charged tested alternator it's at 14. 7 which it supposed to be.

9 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 12/03/2017

I have the 5. 4 engine in my 2007 Ford Expedition with only 70,000 miles which I purchased in 2007. I am now experiencing cam sensor problems, throttle body problems and need major repairs. I have visited many sites and understand that Ford has been sued because of complaints with this particular engine and nothing came from this suit. This started around 2-3 weeks ago, I had been traveling for 2-1/2 hours and just pulled off the highway to enter into my housing plan, when my car lost rpms, became very rough, and then stalled. When the vehicle is on open it road it rides great until you slow down and the rpm falls, then it stumbles and stalls. I had at the dealership a couple of times, but until check engine light came on, I could not get it diagnosed. Over the weekend the check engine light finally lite and as I stated it is the cam position senors and states that the systems too rich. I talked with a Ford rep today and this will be about a $2000 repair bill, but until I can get it to them and they place on their computer, they cannot give me their final estimate if it can be repaired or I need a new engine. I have many misgivings about this since all that I have read on the internet about all the problems with this particular engine. Ford should be held accountable for a faulty engine, and buyers should be made aware of this problem especially when they are buying a used vehicle from a Ford dealership who is definitely aware of this problem.

11 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2005 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 08/30/2014

Vehicle check engine light stays on. Vehicle turns off when sitting idle. Brought vehicle to dealership and they said they fixed it, but after leaving the dealership and paying a large bill the check engine light came back on and still cuts off when just sitting idle in "drive". Scared that this can cause an accident if someone behinds me doesn't realize that my vehicle cuts off.

12 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2005 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 12/30/2013

While driving 55mph on interstate 95 in philadelphia, PA with my wife and 2 children the vehicle stopped running and I was dangerously stalled in the middle of interstate 95. The check engine light came on and check electronic throttle message came on. This is a family vehicle and my wife and I refuse to drive it now in fear of this incident occurring again resulting in death or serious injury. Based upon my research, it appears to be a well known problem that occurred to thousands of Ford Expedition owners. I would appreciate the problem being addressed expeditiously before people are killed and/or injured.

13 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 07/18/2013

Engine went in to fail safe mode and stalled while coasting to pull off. Put in neutral shut off key and then restarted. No more problem. . Until a year later. Fail safe then stall. Restarted and check engine light on. After 10 miles fail safe and stall. Restarted check engine light on took to dealer. Diagnosed as throttle body $650 repair. Obviously; I am not the first victim! shame on you Ford for not stepping up and taking care of your customers and replacing the throttle bodies. To consumers. . Fail safe doesn't mean safe to keep driving, it is designed to keep the engine running just long enough to maintain power steering and brakes while you pull over. Good luck!.

15 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/03/2013

Lemon! 2006 Ford Expedition beginning of June it started "bogging" down while driving. We took it to autozone, misfire. Took it to a mechanic we know and he told us the codes showed 6,7,8 sparkplugs. Trying to save $. This helped a little, started doing it again but worse, this time it was decelerating we were going 75 & check engine light started flashing & bogged down to 50 on the hwy almost cause several wrecks as I tried to pull over to the side (with my kids in the car) took it into the mechanic & other spark plugs coil packs & 1 injector got it fixed picked it up & didn't even get down the road & it did it again. This time check engine light went off after flashing. Took it back to him & no codes couldn't find anything. Went hm & almost got in a wreck again! it decelerate to 45 after going 70. We went hm, next morning going to take it back to him again!! while driving, a/c turned off, door sensor alarm fail popped up, another sensor fail, &pulled over put in park & wouldn't come out of park. Called mechanic, after so many look overs thinking it was pcm, security module, he gives up after 2 wks of working on it. We get it hm & start looking on here & find so much about this like its going in safe fail mode without shutting off. Start looking at all the other forums & this yr model had 362 complains on another site & many on here, several of this same deal. We started with fuses #5 blown, change blows immediately, change again blows again. Start chasing wires, change again starts up. Okay great!!! now rough idle, way bad who cares it starts! drive it to work, we desperately need my car & Ford cant get to it for 1 1/2 months. Starts stalling while driving again a/c shuts off and slows down. Ford needs to fix this before it kills someone! this is a major defect that will kill! I have found this same issue on this same site a lot! why isn't anything being done? help!!!!!!!!!.

21 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2001 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

Vehicle was havin jerkin issues and check engine light was on, took to shop and it was about to blow out the spark plug, I was lucky and caught it and got it replaced but I have done research and seen that many others haven't been and that this is an ongoing issue. My next problem was acceleration, the gas pedal accelerated and cause me to crash into another vehicle and the vehicle fled the scene, there was no major injuries but 4 kids were in the vehicle and are now scared to even ride with me. Mental stress is a major injury in my concern cause it hurts my heart to know my own children are scared that I wont protect them. My third problem is that just yesterday we parked on the side of the side of the road and the vehicle died and wont start, talked to mechanics and they say 01 Fords have this problem, we now have a broke down vehicle and not too sure what the defect has caused more problems to be worse. Due to the defect now the starter solenoid is out and we are unsure if possibly even the fuel pump. Ford knows of all these complaints from other owners and has done nothing. Just in my family I have 2 others that have the same vehicle and have had the same problems, why is it that Ford is not doing anything about these defects that can cause major accidents and injuries???.

22 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 07/10/2012

Engine was losing power under load (only while accelerating). No check engine light ever came on. At 88,000 miles figured that not only will I replace all 8 spark plugs, but would replace all 8 coil packs as well. Upon removal on the spark plugs, 1 spark plug broke (so far) leaving the bottom piece inside the head. Ford knows about this problem, as it can lead many like myself with an outrageous expense to properly remove the broken spark plug and can in the long run damage the aluminum head too. They are motor craft platinum (ceramic inside) spark plugs. Napa sells a tool to extract the broke plug out. Why in the world this is allowed to continue on without a recall is beyond me. Ford knows about these issues and should have a massive recall for the any vehicle that contains these spark plugs, like my 2006 model with a 5. 3l does. I have called Ford and filed a former complaint and many others need to do so as well. I am also going to file a complaint with the bbb, as I spent a huge chunk of change and properly maintain my vehicle on a daily basis. If my truck has to go into a repair shop to have this plug removed, I will be very disappointed in Ford's customer service. I have 4 Fords today. . . . . . . Nothing has ever been this costly! I have a 71 bronco, 98 explorer, 01 ranger, and 06 Expedition. I guess this will determine if I will stay as a Ford owner in the future.

23 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2002 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 05/06/2012

As I was merging onto the freeway, I heard a loud bang followed by a motorcycle sound out of my engine my check engine light came on, upon taking it to the shop and paying $94. 50 just to look at it,I learned that my spark plug and coil box had exploded out. . . . . . The repair place told me this is a on going problem with Fords and charged me $400 to fix it. . . This should be a recall??????.

Check engine light came back on and spark plug #4 is misfiring again. We bought this truck used and it's been one thing after another. So disappointed in Ford. 31 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2001 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 10/17/2009

I was driving down the road with my 4 children inside when we heard a loud explosion, my Ford Expedition engine sounded like there was something very wrong. We pulled into a gas station, lifted the hood and you could smell the gas and feel air blowing outside of wear the spark plug used to be. We towed it to a mechanic, we were told that our spark plug blew out taking the coil pack with it. This is the first time we have had a spark plug blow out but we have had to replace 4 other spark plugs and coil packs because they keep working their way out causing the engine to run rough and the check engine light to come on. We have three more plugs and coils that haven't been replaced. I am scared that at any time we could blow another spark plug and cause an accident. I have been told that there isn't any thing I can do to prevent this problem from happening again. The mechanic said it is very likely that the other plugs will have to be replaced in the future but currently the are working. The spark plug that blew out is along the road somewhere but I still have the spark plugs that haven't been replaced. The spark plugs are having to be replaced every month or so, one at a time. My engine still has three more spark plugs that could blow out. Luckily, when this happened there wasn't a fire. You can smell the gas fumes when this happens. We have always maintained our vehicle by a mechanic, this is the first time we have ever had a recurring problem. The mechanic stated this is not a common problem and it is a design flaw, and Ford is aware of this problem.

32 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2005 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 04/15/2009

While driving the car on the highway with children in the vehicle, the engine light came on, message came on about electronic throttle control , and the vehicle lost all functions of steering, braking, and accelerating. There were no warnings before this happened. After taking it to the Ford dealer today, I see on the internet that many many many families are having this same problem with 2005 Ford Expeditions. Seeing as the problem creates an immediate safety concern for not only the family in the 2005 Ford Expedition, but all the families traveling around the 2005 Ford Expedition. . . I feel like the safety board should look into this as a potential recall for 2005 Ford Expeditions. Thankfully my family is safe today. . . But someone's family may not be so lucky.

33 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 08/21/2008

August 21 on the way to work (4 mile drive) the truck started to shake and lost power, check engine light came on, we took the truck to the dealer, and they can not figure what is going on,so they said the engine needs to be replaced. The codes are p0022-p0305-p0307-p1184-p2198-p2273 my family just came back from a 3000 trip ,I can only imagine having this happening to us during this time. I been looking for the same type of trouble to this trucks and found that there is a number of similar complaints about having to replace engines ranging from 38,000 miles to about 60,000miles. The price of this cars are well over $35,000 to having to spend another $7,000 with all the problems of our economy right now a normal person like me can not afford another rip off by one of the big companies, like Ford. All I'm asking is that they take responsibility for this engine troubles and repair like they supposed to.
