Driving my 97 Ford Expedition home from work it blew a spark plug and the vehicle only has 76k. Brought it to crowley Ford in plainville, CT. And the plug was repaired for $750. 00. It did not correct the problem. Was told that the engine needed replacing for the price of $5200. 00. This problem is related to poor design. I did my homework. There are several other individuals who have reported the same problem across the country. At this time Ford is not taking any responsibility for this.

My 2004 Ford Expedition's motor possibly needs to be replaced. I have only 38,000 miles on it. I was blamed saying I didn't change the oil saying they didn't have me on record coming to dealer to have it done. I changed my own oil and could only furnish a few receipts. The dealer and the inspector blamed each other for the denial saying there was sludge in the oil pan which was the cause. They have had my SUV for 17 weeks given me no rental and it was taken apart and is not drivable and they want to charge me for it. They also won't put it back together without charging me so I can take it somewhere else. I also am an employee of Ford motor at the norfolk assembly plant where the f-150 is built and was told it didn't matter that I worked for Ford.

My '99 Ford Expedition 5. 4l engine blew out a spark plug. Current mileage is 64,400 miles.
2001 Ford Expedition eddie bauer with a 5. 4 v8. Sitting at a stop sign, as soon as I pressed on the accelerator to proceed the engine blew the 3rd spark plug on the passenger side. Towed to Ford dealer estimates to fix are 800 for heli coil, 3500 for head replacement.
This complaint is in reference to a mechanical problem I had with my 2003 Ford Expedition. While driving on interstate I-90 near boston, MA, the engine ejected a spark plug from the head casing of my motor (third plug on the passenger side). When the plug ejected, it took with it all of the threads in the casing, resulting in significant damage to the head. This happened very suddenly, and resulted in a dramatic reduction in vehicle performance - which nearly caused a vehicle crash on the highway. I was stranded on the massachusetts turnpike for some time and had to have the vehicle towed. Much to my surprise, my mechanic indicated that this was the 4th Expedition he had seen this year with this damage to the exact same plug casing - in his mind clearly a defect given that these were all relatively new vehicles without significant mileage on them. I called Ford on this - but they claimed this was not a common problem (I did not believe them). My repair costs for this were over $2,000. Subsequent review of your website indicates that a class action lawsuit has been filed by several persons in California claiming to have incurred the same type of damage. It appears as though this is on your radar screen, but I would like to formally submit this request that this be looked into on my behalf as well as for others who I'm sure this has happened to already - but are not aware that this may be a widespread defect/safety issue.
Upon start up my 1999 Ford Expedition blew a spark plug out of the engine block. Ford refused to admit that there is a problem . Repair is approximately$4000. 00. Numerous complaints at consumer affairs attest to this problem.
The spark plug blew out of my 2001 Ford Expedition. I was cranking the vehicle and heard a loud pop and then the motor started popping and shaking. I had to have it towed to the Ford dealer that has handled all my repairs. They claim the aluminum in the head is faulty and there are no threads on the head but the heads on the spark plug are fine. The warranty company claims that they do not cover the threads on the head; just the head itself. Well duh is that not part of the head. I am still fighting with both the dealer and the extended warranty company. I have paid the extra cost for the maintenance and repairs on my vehicle over the years because I wanted the dealer to handle everything just in case something like this did happen and the warranty company could not get out of paying because I didn't have the dealer do the repairs. I expected better than this from Ford. I had every preventive maintenance performed on this vehicle that Ford motor company recommends and it was done by a Ford dealer; plus I have the extended warranty. Either Ford, the dealer or the warranty company should pay for this; because judging from the other complaints that I have seen; they are all aware of the problem!!!!!!!.
While driving on the highway with my family my 6 year old Ford Expedition blew a spark plug right out of the head. It has come to my attention that this is an on going problem with this vehicle. We had been driving for about 5 hours coming home from a family vacation when this occurred in new jersey. We were lucky in this case because we were able to make it across the highway and off the road. The problem completely destroyed the head on the left side of the engine and the vehicle was unusable for over two weeks while the local Ford dealer worked on the problem. That head had to be replaced as well as many other parts associated with this problem. The dealer stated that this could happen again with the head on the right side. Between the repairs to the engine and the rental car for the time of repair, this was a very expensive (5000 $) problem. Which I stated earlier appears to be an ongoing problem with this motor.
While driving to myrtle beach I heard a loud bang under the hood. I had the truck towed to a Ford dealer where they told me the spark plug blew out of the cylinder head. I have read many complaints about this issue on the internet. I feel this is a safety issue due to the strong smell of gasoline when this happens. Ford said they will do nothing and it will cost me 3600. 00 to fix this. Who says even after replacing the head it wont happen again and again. I am disgusted with the whole thing. I think Ford should step up to the plate and fix this problem.
I have a 1999 Ford Expedition 5. 4l engine, while drivung the vehicle one of the spark plugs blew out. I contacted Ford motor about the problem and they said there is nothing they can do. After doing some research, I found that alot of people have complained about the same problem. Ford motor knows they have a problem with this engine but woun't admit it. I think it is a big safety problem and Ford sure realize it . If you could do anything for me and unknown amount of other people that purchased this piece of junk please email me thanks.

Vehicle had been parked for 3 days when it caught on fire. Fire department determined fire started in engine compartment. Vehicle was totalled.
No summary listed for above vehicle.
Unexplained fire. Car was parked and unattended at the time. No components were on or in operation. Nlm.
There is a low recurring beep when driving.
The engine consistently cuts out when placing the transmission into reverse. Its been back twice, but no trouble found. It happens when in traffic and has nearly caused rear end collisions. No particular action causes this, just come to a stop and put it in reverse.
The vehicle erupted in flames upon impact with another vehicle and burned on the shoulder. The fire appears to have started in the engine compartment and then engulfed the passenger area. There is no evidence to suggest that the other two vehicles that were involved caused the consumer vehicle to catch fire.
When making right hand turns vehicle intermittently acts like back is independent from front. When coming to a stop, vehicle bucks and drags. Dealer informed consumer that motor, rear sway bar link, forward drive shaft and speed sensor needed to be replaced.
While traveling with cruise control engaged cruise control unit would not disengage to slow down for an exit. Consumer has replaced motor three times.
After changing oil could still smell oil. Then ,took vehicle back to dealer where they found blown out head gasket. This was second time. First was repaired by dealer under warranty, but this time it was not under warranty.
Engine loses power without warning, creating hazardous condition. Multiple repair attempts failed. Ford has displayed no concern for the safety of their customers.
Vehicle continues to exhibit same intermitent power loss for the past 13 months. Vehicle is becoming very dangerous, as loss of power requires compensation on drivers part to anticipate traffic flow. Traveling through south dakota bad lands (towing 25ft travel trailer), climbing out of valley, when vehicle lost power. Vehicle was climbing out with no problem, when half way up the vehicle decelerated from 35mph to less than 5mph (no change in hill grade). Vehicle quit running approximately 100 miles from rapid city sd. Catalytic converters were burned-up. All dealers visited over the last 13 months have not been able to define the problem. Vehicle continues to self destruct.
Owned the car for ten months. During this period, the vehicle repeatly looses power without notice. Lately this has become a safety problem. While driving south on I-75 and the intersection I-475 (hauling travel trailer) the truck lost power up a slight incline. Truck downshifted 2 gears and engine shot to 4500rpm, while the speed dropped from 65 to 40mph in less than 100 yards. 18 wheelers swerved to avoid hitting us from the rear of the car. In the past ten months the car also exhibits other anomolies, such as seats and mirrors move and loose their position without command from the remotes. Once this happens, computer must be reset. Other anomolies that happen in conjunction with the mirrors and seats are the reverse sensors fail to work properly, and the alarm activates. Vehicle has been turned over to the dealer no less than 8 times without success in finding the problem. . . . Help.
Please note that brandon Ford has not helped me resolve some of these issues. No safety defect mentioned in summary. (tiresize: 26516)( dot number: tire size: 26516 ).
Vehicle would shut down periodically/ without any prior warning. Dealer does not have remedy. . Dealer has replaced components to alleviate problem, but still no remedy.
When I turned the car off, it started smoking. Later I notice a leak coming from under the car.
