My car lost power steering control they was a recall before I take to dealership they dont fixed but they report fixed.
As I was in motion driving my service power steering light came on and about 30 seconds later I lost all power steering causing my vehicle to swerve to the left. I was able to stop the vehicle. The vehicle ihas has this issue of loosing power steering in the past August of 2019 and the power steering rack was replaced February of 2018. I have taken my vehicle into the local Ford dealership in 2019 and was advised it needed a new power steering rack at my cost! I have since had this issue again November 3rd. I have contacted Ford and the dealership in 2019 created a fraud claim for reprograming the climate control module nothing with the issue that I initially brought in with. Im scared for the safety of my family in this vehicle and the unethical claim barnes baker automotive of trenton, mo has claimed. My vehicle is not safe to drive at this time and I have concerns that the suspension recall has even been preformed. The recall for the power steering has been performed but, is an ongoing problem for my vehicle. Ford is claiming this is not a recall related issue which this vehicle has had a ongoing p[roblem with the power steering locking up. This almost caused an accident!.
Driving at 35+ entering on ramp mph the car lost all power and just stopped. The engine shut off. No warning lights or alarms went off beforehand. Once the car stopped, the engine light came on, the low pressure lamp too and an alarm sounded. I called a tow truck and had it towed to (told me my engine was milky destoyed)two dealears then to Ford. They called this morning and said the water pump went out causing catastrophic damage to the engine. The engine has to be replaced. They quoted $8,000. 00. Had to get a $10,000 loan. [to replace steering and engine] this is the first one (it seems to be headed in the same direction but only sooner) *please help me I can't afford this again**while driving on the highway, my power steering went out without warning. I lost all power steering and then the power steering alarm came on. Took it to Ford and had the power steering replaced at a cost of $1800. 00. Then, less then 2 weeks later while driving at 40 mph, the power steering went out again. And again, no warning lights until the power steering wen out. Ford said it was because my tires had low tread and I needed to replace my front tires, which we had them do. 8 months ago, the transfer case went out and had to be replaced also when placed in park vehicle shut off completely showing a low pressure oil lamp. Happened in my first engine now it's happening in this new one and its not 2yrs old yet just got the new engine may/ June of 2019. The first engine wasn't 10 years old . The first engine all this happened approximately between 2016 and 2019 ongoing until 2019 I guess the water pump gave up. O1 o1 2020 for the second engine on the same course as the first.
Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Ford Explorer. The contact drove the vehicle to the dealer roush Ford, 5575 keim cir, columbus, OH 43228, they determined that the electronic power steering failed and needed replacement. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000. Bp.
Tackata recall vehicle lost power steering while driving down a city street. Unknown reason for loss of steering. Extremely dangerous and Ford says they cannot do anything for this vehicle. There are recalls for this problem and for the same year model.
I lose power steering when I turn the car on and have to turn it off and back on to regain power steering. This has occurred multiple times throughout the last few years.
In April 2015, I had two instances in which my vehicle lost power steering with a corresponding "power steering assist fault" message. I, fortunately, was in a parking lot both times and was able to steer to a parking space, turn off the ignition and restart the car (as advised in the owners manual). In researching the issue, I discovered a recall notice for power steering issues. I took my car in for service on April 23rd to have the service performed. On April 27th, when I started the car to pull out of my garage at home, I realized that I had no power steering. Turning off the ignition and restarting no longer worked. I contacted the dealership who performed the recall service. Because the power steering was working when I took the car in for the recall service, they performed the basic reset and sent me on my way. Ford is telling me that because they had serviced the recall once, they consider it to be repaired and will not cover the repair of the failed power steering. Fortunately I was not traveling down the interstate at 65 mph when my power steering failed, otherwise it could have been tragic. I cannot believe Ford is refusing to repair a known defect that was serious enough to warrant a recall.
Summary: updating the software does not fix the ¿loss of power steering problem under Ford recall 140s06 for 2011 Ford Explorer. Power steering still fails after the software update. However, Ford rejects to cover the cost of replacing the steering rack to fix the problem if the customer has done software update; Ford agrees to cover it only if customer has not done software update. Basically if you are given remedy option 1 which is updating software by the dealer, then you lose the right for remedy option 2 which is replacing gear for this recall regardless if option 1 has fixed the problem or not. This is not right! in July 2014, I brought my car to the dealership after receiving power steering recall letter. They could not detect the power steering error code at that time, so simply they updated the software. But I still occasionally experienced the same error message, and it happened more often later on, until last week April 14th, 2015, the message stayed on, and I lost the power steering completely in a parking lot. I called Ford customer service on April 17th to open a case # cas - 6615667 requesting to replace the steering gear under the recall 140s06 at no cost. After a few days' prolonged back and forth with the dealer and Ford, my case was denied by Ford. The reason given to me is that the software update was completed so my recall case was closed and it will not be covered to replace steering gear. When I asked about the recall 12month/12k warranty that I am still within, Ford insisted that it only covers the software that was updated. But I believe the recall is meant to address the problem of loss of power steering, if the same problem exists, meaning software update does not work, the warranty should cover the recall remedy option 2 to replace the gear for a real fix. No way will a software update fix a physical hardware defect.
Cranked up vehicle, put it in reverse and began to move backwards. Heard a chime and at the same time lost power steering. There was a "power steering assist fault" message box on the left side of the dash. I stopped; put it in park and turned it off. After restarting it was ok. This has been happening the past couple of weeks to my wife however and she will not drive it anymore. I have contacted my Ford service dept. That handles the maintenance of the vehicle and informed them of the problem and that I received recall notice 14s06 in July 2014 talking about this very issue. They did a reprogram to the software which obviously did not "fix" the problem. It stipulates in that recall that if the update does not fix the issue that the steering gear is to be replaced free of charge. I have requested a date in a couple of weeks for work to be done as I am almost 3 hours from the dealer / service dept.
When parked in a parking garage I started out and of my spot and down a ramp toward the pay station/booth of the garage to exit. The power steering assist fault came on, I immediately lost power steering and was headed directly toward the pay booth/attendant until I was able to brake and muscle the steering away from the impending crash. This power steering issue has started to occur briefly over the last few 6 months and either resolves itself or if I stop, shut off, then restart it seems to reset. The electronic power steering seems to be at fault. I can only imagine losing this at highway speeds and the danger it poses to drivers.
Ref, previous case 10667813 . . . Just curious … saw Ford had several 2011 vehicles added to recalls, but not Explorers for this cause … wonder why, since our experience was exactly what the other recalls were … lost power steering assist, could not control vehicle. Was electrical steering gear malfunction at 47,000 miles bill yarnell 419-349-4874.
On June 16th, 2014, I was traveling 40 mph with my 3 year old and 18 month old in the car and I lost all power steering and ended up in a ditch. There was no way to control it or even turn the wheel. It happened again on June 19th, 2014 however, my husband was driving and was able to get the car off the road.
At approx 1430 on June 2nd on highway on ramp accelerating had the service advancetrac warning light and chime come on and the traction control off light and chime come on and lost all power steering control of vehicle. I immediately put on my emergency flasher and let off the accelerator and forced my Explorer to the shoulder. Once on the shoulder of the highway I cleared the faults, I wish I would have taken cell photo of fault, and turned vehicle off and then restarted vehicle with no issues. I did not have any other issues for the rest of the drive approx 25 to 30 min.
This is the 4th time my vehicle has lost its power steering. I was driving in traffic at about 45 mph and the power steering. I have to find a place on the side of the highway to pull over and turn my car off and wait a while then restart it and sometimes it fixes the problem and sometimes it doesn't. There is only a matter of time that this will happen going at a higher rate of speed and cause injury or worse! Ford needs to recall this ASAP!.
While driving on the interstate at about 70 mph, an electrical light came up on the dash and I immediately lost power steering. My family was in the car and it was extremely frightening. I was able to muscle the car over to the right lane at which point, power steering was restored. The issue happened again around 20 minutes later and then rectified itself after a minute or so. I drove the car to the dealer and spoke with them about what happened. They kept the car for a week and could not "replicate the issue". This was the first week of April. I am now learning that Ford was aware of this problem back in January and has issued a recall.
The car basically shuts off and you lose power steering. No warn lights just cuts off immediately. We brought the car to the dealership and they ran a diagnostic and told us the issue was with the power steering sensor and that it would cost $2,000 to fix. I took to the internet and searched the issue to find out that there have been a number of owners that have had the same problem. I called Ford customer service and they opened a case for us. They came back with $1,000 in financial assistance but it will still cost us $1,000 for soemthing I feel is not a part that "wears out". It is a very dangerous issue and I think that Ford should take care of replacing the part before someone really gets hurt.
Power steering fail light came on and I lost my power steering. After killing the car, letting it sit then restarting it I started back working.
Power steer assist default shown on dash. Vehicle lost power steering while in motion. It was reset by restarting the vehicle. This occurred several times before becoming fully disabled on may 18, 2014. Vehicle became very difficult to control while in motion and nearly impossible 5 mph and under.
We purchased our 2011 Explorer in July 20, 2013 with approx 43,000 miles. The first instance (8/30/13) we were leaving a friend's house, turned on the car and had no power steering for the entire ride home. This was a Friday night so we were unable to take the car to the dealership. Power steering came back the next morning when we restarted the vehicle. Sunday (9/1/13) we were driving at approximately 40 mph when we lost power steering again. We pulled over and shut the car off. Once restarted, the power steering worked again. Our local dealership was contacted and could not fit us in for service until 9/9/13. The Ford dealership kept our car for exactly 2 weeks trying to figure out the exact problem. Inevitably, we were told that the steering gear assembly was replaced. All was fine until 10/14/13 when we once again lost power steering and "service power steering" and "terrain management system" warnings were displayed on the dash while driving at approximately 35 mph. The vehicle was taken immediately to the Ford dealership yet again. We were contacted by the service department rep, who spoke with Ford, to determine that the gear that was previously replaced was "defective. " we are now awaiting yet again to have our car returned to us. Each time this happens there is no warning and the car is extremely hard to steer. This is not only inconvenient but also a huge safety issue. We drive around two small children and my wife feels unsafe driving the vehicle because this can happen at anytime without warning. As time goes on, it has been brought to our attention that this is a fairly common problem among 2011 Ford Explorers through present models. Unfortunately, it seems that many people have been going through this exact vicious cycle for years now. It seems that Ford cannot seem to pin point the exact problem.
I started my car and as I was backing out of my driveway 2 warnings came power steering assist failure and service advance trac. At which point I lost my power steering. I turned the car off and on again and the warnings went away. I drive to work fine but I leave for my lunch break and get the same warnings and no power steering. I turn off and on several times even going back in to work to let it sit a while. Try again later. . . Same thing. . . No power steering. I'm stuck at work till my husband can come and get me. I've noticed that there have been numerous complaints on this same thing happening to other people and I wonder why Ford has not recalled it yet. It really makes me mad that I may have to pay $1200-$1500 to get this fixed (will it even really be fixed?) for a car that is still so new.
While driving down the highway, there was a notification on the info center that there was an issue with the power steering. At that point I lost power steering in the vehicle and then traction control. This issue has occurred 4 times in the last month and we have already taken it to the dealership and they were unable to find out what the issue was since it is not keeping records in the computer of these issues.
This happened to us 2 times in 2 weeks. Power steering failure light came on along with the auto trac light. At this point we lost power steering. We were on the highway and we were close to a walmart so we stopped and let the car sit and we went into walmart . When we came out the light was off and the power steering was fine. Monday I was backing out of my garage and the lights went on again and no power steering. I was able to pull the car back into the garage and there it sits. I cant drive it as it is to hard for me to turn the wheel. We are taking it into the dealer Friday and I called them and they have no recalls for the car and said they cant find the information I found about the power steering that was reported in 2012. I am just glad my husband was driving the first time. We have tried the car since Monday and still no power steering.
Coming to a stop at a stop sign, warning messages appeared - power steering assist failure and advance trac control fault. The vehicle lost all power steering assist. With much effort (extremely hard to steer!), I pulled the vehicle to a parking space to diagnose the problem. The advance trac warning message stayed on. The traction control light and the traction control 'off" light also stayed illuminated. I turned the Explorer off. When I restarted, the power steering returned and after a few seconds the advance trac warning message went off. Took vehicle to Ford dealer (alan vigil Ford) the next morning. They told me I needed a new steering rack. Parts will not be in for several days. They told me I could drive the vehicle until the parts arrive. I'll bring it back to them then.
While driving east on route 422 from royersford to king of prussia at 55 mph audible warning alarm went off with two lights on dash. Lost power steering control. Too unsafe to pull off on shoulder in dark, struggled with steering for about 2 miles to next off ramp. Restarted vehicle on off ramp and power steering returned. I will call dealer tomorrow as warranty is nearly up. Car manual explains this exact situation as if its a common occurrence. Just reboot your car (if you survived the crash!) I have never had a power steering failure in 25 years. If this happens to frail person in a turn, they will not pull out of turn and will hit the closest object in the path of their turn.
While entering a roadway our Explorer suddenly lost power steering at this time the vehicle showed a power steering assist fault also a service advance trac code followed by a loss of terrain management notice also at this time the turn signals would not operate. Had vehicle towed to our dealership . They returned the vehicle to me after reprogramming abs module per tsb12-08-09. The same thing happened again Sunday july14 called dealership they will call me back with their findings.
While drive down highway at about 60 mph, audible warning alarm went off with two lights on dash. Lost power steering control. Service advance trac warning. Was barely able to pull over but after shutting vehicle down and restarting power steering was back. I will take it to dealer tomorrow as warranty is nearly up and scared to drive it anymore especially with children in the vehicle.
Was driving down the road and with no warning the power steering went out and lights came on the dash. Arrived at destination cut the car off and several hours later started the car and drove it with no problems. 5 months later my wife was driving the vehicle and the same thing occurred. We took it to the Ford dealership they were able to reproduce the problem and said it was the steering rack electric control module. Luckily she had purchased the extended warranty because at this time the car had about 40000 miles and would have cost us 1800 dollars to fix. We got the car from the dealership and about 1 week later I was driving the car 40 mph on a curvy road when again lost power steering and almost ran off the road into ditch I took the car straight to the dealership left the engine running with all the dash board lights lit up and no power steering. After filing a complaint with Ford corporate a regional customer service manager called and they are now telling me that the new part they had replaced a week earlier must have been defected and are waiting on another replacement part. We informed them we no longer want the vehicle we feel it is not safe to drive and wanted to know what options we had and what Ford was willing to do to keep us a satisfied customer. They offered a free extended warranty on the car (which my wife had already purchased) or we could trade it in on a new Ford and by the new vehicle under the Ford x-plan.
While driving vehicle, I heard a ding and two warnings came up on my information panel stating "service advance trac" and "power steering assist fault". I was coming into a curve and immediately after these warnings came on, I lost all power steering and barely avoided a crash. I stopped my vehicle, turned off the car and made a phone call to my husband and then restarted my car and the warnings were gone and my power steering was working. This has happened a total of 8 times over the last two weeks and is getting harder to get the power steering to work after restarting the last few times. I have taken it to my local Ford dealership where they are telling me it is a steering gear and they have ordered the replacement part, but with my extended warranty, it will cost me a $100. 00 deductible. I've since researched and have seen that there are several Explorers with this exact same issue and wanted to lodge my incident as well.
This is the 2nd time this happened while raining. The first time, about a year ago and while driving 55 mph, the instrument cluster screen and myfordtouch screens both went black and lost power steering suddenly, but engine was still running. But, all of sudden, then power steering re-energized and made steering wheel jerk causing vehicle to skid momentarily, but I was able to maintain control of vehicle and pull over. The instrument cluster screen then had a message "check charging system. " I turned vehicle off and restarted it and vehicle returned to normal. Few days later, took to dealership for routine maintenance and battery and alternator were checked out as being fine. Today, vehicle lost power steering while slowing to a stop to turn into driveway and felt like steering wheel locked up. Had to turn steering wheel with great force to turn into driveway home and the drove about 200ft to carport and power steering never returned and had same check charging system warning message displayed on instrument cluster. Turned vehicle off and power steering returned and no longer had check charging system warning message. Only happens when raining and unable to reproduce for service tech because dealership says they won't test vehicle when it is raining.
I was stopped at a light waiting to turn left. The green arrow appeared so I started to make my left hand turn and lost power steering capability. Several "dings" sounded and indicators on my dashboard lit up. I was able to get around the corner with a great deal of force on the wheel and get into a parking lot without incident. After shutting the vehicle off and re-starting, the power steering capability was returned, but the indicator lights were still active. Vehicle was taken on a flat-bed to the dealership and it is still there being assessed.
While driving a warning light came on stating I lost power steering. I could not steer my car. I was able to pull over. I shut off my car and restarted it and power steering came back.
I was slowing down and getting into the left turn lane. The light was green so I started to turn left and the traction light system came on, both lights, and the steering system failure alert came on and I lost all power steering and almost hit a pole. It was a nice day, no rain or moisture. The pavement was dry.
I was pulling out of my garage and only got about 6 feet out of the garage and I immediately lost power steering - there was a message showing on the dash "power steering module fault". 2 days before this happened there was a very hard shaking in the front end. You could see the front passenger seat shake. The Ford dealer said that was caused by a problem with the drive shaft. And also said that Ford is aware of people having problems with the drive shaft also.
Steering wheel locks up when vehicles in motion suddenly lost power steering assist and made it harder to steer the vehicle. The dash board indicated "power steering assist fault" and "service advancetrack". This happened three time and after switching off the power and restarting the vehicle corrected the problem. . When steering locked up I almost hit the curb and telephone pole. Scared to drive the car have not made the first payment.
Suddenly lost power steering assist and made it harder to steer the vehicle. The dash board indicated "power steering assist fault" and "service advancetrack". This happened twice and after switching off the power and restarting the vehicle corrected the problem.
