The contact owns a 2017 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 65 mph, the driver's side keyless entry panel dropped off to the side. While driving, the panel fell off and was sticking out, but eventually snapped in half. Additionally, the lift gate lost power. The contact had to duct tape the panel to the door. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the panel had to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. While driving at an unknown speed, the panel dropped off and snapped off. The contact was unable to secure the panel, and it completely detached. The manufacturer was contacted and referred to NHTSA. The failure mileage were approximately 75,000 and 133,000.

I own a 2000 Ford sport Explorer. My seat on the driver side broke a bolt. The same bolt that is on recall from the 2002 Ford sport Explorer. If I had a 2002 then it would be covered by a recall, but since it is a 2000, it is not covered. The problem costs $200. 00 (199. 19) to get mine fixed. I think this is unfair since obviously it is a problem that Ford motor company has already issued a recall on for a new model. My seat would not sit up straight, and it is the exact same bolt according to a service employee at north central Ford in dallas, TX. Recall number concerning this bolt is 3v281000.
Hinge on liftgate glass fractured and broke. 2004 Ford Explorer. See 2003 nhsta recall 04v442000. Liftgate glass hanging off and car unusable. Metal fatigue on hinge/glass attach point on glass. Could my car have received "older" defective parts from previous year as it has a manufacture date of 08/03? numerous previous model year problems with same part.

On December, 11, 2004, my 10 year old son went to open the back hatch of our 2003 Ford Explorer. On trying to close the hatch, the left hinge holding the glass part broke, dropping the glass but held onto by my son. On trying to place the glass in a secure position to drive the vehicle back home, the glass exploded and lacerated my older son's eye who was helping to try and correct the issue. The tear to his upper eyelid was extensive enough to require a hospital visit and 7 stitches. Ford is now giving me the run around that I would not expect especially since my complaint is based on a faulty hinge (recalled but in supply limbo), broken glass and an injury to a minor. All I wanted was the car to be fixed and secure a loner car. Unbelieveable that they will not take responsibility.

While opening the rear door hinges broke. Consumer took vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the hinges and struts needed to be replaced, and replaced them. However, a few months later while closing the rear door the glass broke. No one was injured. Vehicle was taken back to dealer, and the mechanic replaced the window.

Both rear door hinges, left and right are broken. Consumer unable to open doors.
Failure of metal at the location where the hinge attaches to the door. Had door checked in March of 2000 because door wasn't working properly. They found nothing and no visual signs. Continual and normal use of the door has caused this obvious weakness or defect in the metal to rupture and make the door inoperable.
I have a vehicle that has serious safety problems, the manufacturer has attempted to repair the defects on a number of occasions but I am left with a vehicle that is unsafe. The NHTSA website shows several listings of the same problems I have encountered: NHTSA item # sb613200 NHTSA item # sb605343 NHTSA item # sb613320 all items pertaining to engine hesitation. My vehicle is a safety hazard when this intermittent condition occurres, when pulling into the flow of traffic or crossing across traffic the vehicle may leave me as a "sitting duck". Another persistant problem that I have is a driveline vibration. After replacing the defective tires (firestone wilderness at) at my expence, the vibration still exists especially under a towing load. This problem also was attempted to be repaired, on more than one occasion, by the manufacturer but I am left with a vehicle that feels as if the transmission/rear end is about to fall apart. I think the manufacturer has issued a service bulletin for this vibration caused by rear end/transmission defects of it's trucks but I have not been able to obtain it. If you can assist me in any way please contact me. Thank you.

Driver's door has pulled away from the frame of vehicle, causing the door not to properly close. Please give any further details.
The upper hinge on the rear passenger door presents a danger to a person entering the front door. I was asked to examine an exemplar vehicle, especially the rear door hinges while the front door was open. This is in response to a reported incident in louisiana. A child was injured by the upper hinge of the rear door while entering the driver's door. The child's mother opened the rear door as the child climed into the vehicle. Evidently the child was using the exposed rear door hinge as a grip. The hinge appears to be the same model as used on the Ford ranger pickup truck. The "stop" which limits the door's movement is a piece of metal that extends past the pin on the hinge. The "stop" and the portion of the hinge which is fastened to the frame have the shape of scissors. There is no body panel to limit access to the rear door's hinge from the opening to the front of the passenger compartment. The hinge if used on the front doors of a vehicle is safe and effective. The hinge used in an unprotected area presents a hazard. Please investigate and take appropriate action. Sincerely, douglas fleming p. E.
