36 Service Brakes problem of the 2021 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 08/24/2024

Hi, I am concerned about the safety of my vehicle. I brought it to the attention of Ford motor company and an authorized dealer that I am getting a parking brake warning on my dashboard. The authorized dealer inspected it, and said that the braking system is contaminated due to liquid spilling from the damaged cupholders. I communicated to them, that 1. The cupholders are clearly not strong enough to be placed over a critical component of the vehicle such as a braking system. 2. I think that this is a design flaw as there are normally drips and spills from having liquid in your car, especially in the designated place for it (cupholders). I should not be held liable for the repair to the braking system. They insisted this should be for my account, and if I decided not to fix it, it could lead to the entire braking system malfunctioning while the car is in motion or at a stand still. I am noting this with the department of transportation for investigation hopefully prior to an incident/accident taking place and the risk of a fatality, I have communicated to the dealer but they feel they have no accountability for this. While this may seem to be a cosmetic issue "just a cupholder", it is directly over a critical system of the car, and based on research I have done, I am not the only one with a broken cupholder in my Ford Explorer.

40 Service Brakes problem of the 2021 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 07/27/2024

Part 573 safety recall report 23v-675 the recall that is has been applied causes safety issues with the car when driving forward or in reverse. When putting the car into park the parking break auto applies. Now that is great however. . When putting the car into reverse or drive it does not release until the accelerator is applied. Now the problem is that the electric parking brake is delayed vs the acceleration causing the car to jerk forward or in reverse when the accelerator is applied. It acts like your trying to do a burn out holding down the break and it releases. This is not safe. A worker at the dealer almost rear ended a power pole in the parking lot because of this. My suggestion is to have the electric parking brake disengaged automatically when the car is put into drive or reverse. This will keep the protection of the electronic parking break being applied while in park and allowing smooth transition back to drive and reverse. Why has this issue been brushed under the rug. .

42 Service Brakes problem of the 2013 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 07/06/2024

Unknown. Vehicle disengaged from park to neutral while in garage after vehicle was shutoff (approximately 3-5 minutes ). Vehicle rolled out of garage crossed the street and stopped in neighbors yard. No damage occurred. Incident happened within the last hour, so nothing has been inspected as of yet. I have been hearing an electronic hum with the sound of moving parts in the driver side rear end after I place the transmisson shift to park and then turn the key to the off position. I'd estimate that has been happening sporadically for the last year. If the electronic parking module or it's component is located in the driver rear end of a 2013 Ford Explorer I would think that may the issue.

This is the second time again 15 minutes that I've had to continue to put in these complaints about the recalls it is you know everything else about not being notified about all the recalls which I think there are between 10 and 12 all the way from the rear towing to the a pillars to the headlight all the way down to the Cadillac converter cam trimming assembly etc not been notified one time bye anyone nothing george coleman Ford dealership. Very unprofessional and I'm very pissed off right now I've spoke lol let the message for james farley ceo of Ford and I will be letting him know everything that has been going on because of the a pillars of water has been able to get inside the vehicle because that is the rubber around the front windshield which is supposed to have been you know done accurately and which it wasn't because if it was there wouldn't be a recall but I'm getting pretty pissed off to have to find out all these recalls on my own and for the Ford dealership where I bought the vehicle has not tried to reach out whatsoever even about the roof rack recall they have the parts in but they had not notified me so therefore if anything happens during the for the headlight if I get a ticket y'all will be held responsible if I get into a bad car wreck y'all will be held responsible because of the rear toe link that's a very important part because it will make you crash into a ditch and die and yeah I'm just I'm pretty pissed right now I can't wait for james farley to call me back because he's going to he's going to find out how pissed I am and I'll go above the ceo and talk to the Ford family about these issues along with leaving bad reviews and y'all get deducted for every complaint. There's one person at george coleman Ford that I would like to extend my gratitude towards and I don't know his first name his name is mr shockley that is a great man he's been the most helpful and he has went above and beyond to help me and my wife when I did ask him about the.

44 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 06/14/2024

Sudden unintended acceleration of the vehicle when slowing to park vehicle. This has happened on 2 occasions- both scenarios the same: slowing and turning left into a parking space, foot on the brake, almost to a complete stop and the vehicle suddenly accelerates out of control. The 1st time into a tree, the 2nd time into a parked/unoccupied vehicle. The brake was applied w/o response, the vehicle would not stop. I am certain my foot was not on the gas. Fortunate no one was injured.

47 Service Brakes problem of the 2022 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 04/29/2024

1. I had received a Ford motor company Ford customer service division, p. O. Box 19043, dearborn, michigan 48121-1904 safety recall notice 23s55/NHTSA recall 23v675 letter dated November 2023. 2. Below are my responses to above questions. . . - what component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? answer: a rear axle bolt may fracture. They have inspected months ago. - how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? answer: I am concern for my wife's safety. - has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? answer: koons is very aware as I have reached out to service advisors, and sent correspondence (web site emails. . . Don't have copies though) between apr24 - jul24. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? answer: yes; months ago. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? answer: not that we are aware of. Our trigger was the letter sent to us in November 2023. Summary: the letter we received is dated November 2023, we started reaching out to koons in April 2024, and constantly following up with them. All the same answer. . . Waiting for the part to arrive. That only 5 of these parts come out once a week. I finally gave up in July 2024, as I advised them (by sending web site email, and sending service advisor cell phone a test that we communicate by) that I was going to report to problem to your agency. No response back from either of them. I have written down dates and each time I reached out to them with no luck at all, which is on the original recall letter. To be honest, I am very concern as this is my wife's vehicle to drive. I have advised her to use her parking brake when parking, but understand that there is other impacts if the axle would crack.

55 Service Brakes problem of the 2020 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 01/25/2024

We turned the vehicle on and a parking brake error came up on the dashboard followed by the dashboard lighting up with a lot of warnings. The vehicle was turned off and back on but continued with the error. Because we were out at a store and not home, we tried to drive it. We placed it in reverse and when put in drive, the brakes did not work with engaged. There was a small bumped that was able to stop the vehicle. I called Ford and they offered to run diagnostics on the vehicle for next week but could not guarantee a paid rental for the length of time needed for the repair. After exiting the vehicle, letting it rest for 5 minutes and restarting again, we were able to drive home with the brakes working again.

56 Service Brakes problem of the 2023 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 01/08/2024

There seems to be two issues of concern; 1. Braking system . . When you are in your car, you can hear constant clicking from the engine and the brake light keeps turning and on and off. The light keeps indicating that the brake is on. This happens continuously every day. 2. Steering… when you are switching lanes, it’s not a smooth transition. It feels like a jerk each time and feels like if you were to put the brake, the car will flip over. Very concerning. Happens all the time.

57 Service Brakes problem of the 2020 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 12/31/2023

The rear left brake caliper locked up and caused damage to the wheel, tire, rotors and most of the brake assembly. Ford service thought that maybe a bolt fell out. The vehicle has ~36000 miles. I purchased what was called a bumper to bumper warranty from the dealership but was told it did not cover the problem. The damage is $3200. I looked at online forums and found numerous entries about the brake caliper issues. A parts employee at a dealership told me the part (l1mz2b511c) was on national backorder due to a "quality" problem. Ford customer service said they would not cover the repair because there is no recall.

60 Service Brakes problem of the 2020 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 11/16/2023

2020 Ford Explorer purchased in January 2021. Since owning this vehicle, we have experienced numerous (10+) situations where at a light or entering traffic with our foot on the brake pedal and waiting to proceed the car starts to acerate on its own and jump forward 4'-6' before it stops. I have visited my dealer jones Ford in charleston, SC and reported this issue a couple of times over the past few years. As usual they were unable to replicate the issue in shop or find a service code that relates to this problem. On Thursday, November 16, 2023, while horizontally parking my vehicle in georgetown, SC in front of an electrical pole (with support wires holding it in place), with my foot on the brake pedal coming to a stop, the engine acerated and jumped the curb hitting the steel wires causing damage to my front and right side. The following Monday, November 20th I brought the Explorer into the dealer to investigate the problem since it was still under an extended warranty. After spending a week at the dealer, they return the vehicle unable to find anything wrong and charged me over $200 for a service inspection (invoice included). At that point I contacted Ford customer service directly and after numerous calls and emails they denied that anything was wrong with my Explorer and closed the case (email included). Since January 2024, I have incurred 5 additional occurrences, and the last one was last week while I was parking the car in reverse. . . It jumped and struck the parked vehicle behind me. Thank goodness there was no damage to either vehicle. Over the past weekend in continuing to research this problem I came across an ap article from June 2023 discussing this problem with 2020-22 Ford Explorers (article included). This is why I am lodging this complaint; Ford was well a where of this dangerous situation that my wife and I faced over the years. When the vehicle would acerate it was very scary, and you honestly were not positive the car would stop.

61 Service Brakes problem of the 2022 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 11/07/2023

On 4 separate occasions the brakes on this Explorer failed to engage. The first incident happened as I was backing out of my garage and the brakes did not engage immediately. This resulted in my damaging our trellis. I was traveling at about 5 mph this happened sept. 2023. The second incident happened as I was coming out of the car wash and applied the brake, but it did not engage and this resulted in a small fender bender with the car in front of me. - again very slow speed, about 2 mph happened in November 2023. The third incident was on the road as I approached a car stopped for a red light. Again the brakes failed to engage, but I was able to avoid the car in front of me by swerving into the lane to the left. Fortunately no car was approaching on that lane this happened November 2023. The final incident again was on the road. The car in front of me was stopped for a left turn and I applied the brakes, the car did not stop so I swerved to the right onto a lawn and side swiped a tree before the brakes finally took hold. I was slowed down to about 30 mph happened injanuary 2024. . This failure in the car braking system has resulted in a substantial money loss . After these incidents I am no longer driving the car. I contacted the dealership and they would not look at the vehicle until it was repaired. We will be returning the car to the dealership for their evaluation of the problem.

62 Service Brakes problem of the 2020 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 10/18/2023

Was at a complete stop heading westbound on state road 200 at amelia island parkway (rd name?) at approximately 9:35 am. I was behind a semi truck in the right hand lane. No one was ahead of him. There were two cars in the left hand lane, no one in the turning lane onto amelia island parkway. I decided to get into the left lane behind those two cars so I wasn’t stuck behind the semi. I very slowly moved to the left lane, pushed on the brake the first time and kept moving, second time pushed as hard as I could and kept rolling, now close to hitting the car ahead of me. I immediately put the vehicle in park and which also activated the parking brake. The light turned green and I put the car back into drive and drove no faster than probably 45 mph. Stopped into the ulta parking lot parked and called paul clark Ford who insisted I bring the car in right away. Drove approx 2-5 min to paul clark Ford slowly. Ford was not able to reproduce the issue. No warning lamps came on.

65 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 10/01/2023

Warning lights that the abs system was not functioning. Said to see dealer. Dealer said abs module bad and had to be replaced. Told me could affect my ability to stop without new module could be a safety concern. Told me there is a back log of orders for module and could not give me a date when parts could come in. Said it could be months which leads me to believe many vehicles have this issue. Big concern to me. In addition, the rear back up camera does not always work which I believe is a real safety concern and know many year Explorer cameras have malfunctioned and have been recalled. This year Explorer should be recalled also. They have many fixes listed on youtube that identify various fixes various engineering issues, for safety of people (especially children) sake, this should be recalled in my opinion.

70 Service Brakes problem of the 2021 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 07/01/2023

On July 1, 2023, I had the vehicle parked on an incline with a trailer attached to the vehicle. The vehicle was in park and the parking brake was set. As I attempted to unload the trailer, the vehicle started to move and rolled down the incline. I was on the trailer and was moving with the vehicle, I could have been injured but fortunately the vehicle rolled into a pile of topsoil before it could pick up too much speed. However, both the vehicle and trailer were damaged my safety was put at risk as the vehicle was moving without anyone in it. This occurred in my driveway but could have happened on a busy street. I still own the vehicle and it is available for inspection. There were no indications, warning lamps, etc. That would have notified me of the impending failure. I contacted Ford and they have been of little help. It took them 2-1/2 months to get me scheduled to have one of their field service engineers to inspect the vehicle. I was not allowed to talk to the field service engineer and that person did not attempt to duplicate the conditions which caused the failure. The report from Ford to me said they inspected the vehicle on a lift. They said they could not find a problem and said they will take no further action. They have been extremely uncooperative and do not seem the least concerned about the safety of the vehicle. I am concerned that the problem will recur and cause significant damage or injury so I take precautions whenever I park it.
