Check Engine Light On problems of the 2013 Ford F-150 - part 1

The vehicle has two "types" of problem that may be related. In some cases, the truck drops down into 1st gear regardless of the speed. This has happened three times since I picked up the truck following the attempted recall repair, but none of these incidences of dropping into 1st gear caused error codes to pop up. In another "type" of incident, the speedometer drops to zero even while in motion, and the vehicle stays in 3rd gear no matter the speed (including when not in motion, even after shifting into park and back to drive, the vehicle automatically jumps to 3rd gear before I even start to move). During this second type of incident, the airbag light came on, as did the wrench/check engine light. This second type of incident triggered many error codes: u0401:68-48 b00a0:68-08 u0401:00-08 p0722:00-68 u0401:86-08 u0401:00-08 u0401:68-08 b1083:07-08 u0423:00-28.

Engine knocking on startup. The knock is more easily heard from the passenger side of the vehicle. The knocking is the most noticeable for the first 30 seconds of startup. This occurs every day. The amount of knocking follows an increase in engine rpm. One occasion I was driving 65 on the freeway, the engine compartment started violently shaking. The car lost acceleration and flashed the check engine light. This was the start of the engine knock. 09.

Upon accelerating to pass or merge onto a highway the engine will lose power and the check engine light will flash. This loss of power makes it dangerous to safely pass or merge onto a highway. I was researching on the internet and there are many instances of this happening to ecoboost owners. This problem has been dubbed the "ecoboost shudder " I have called 4 dealerships asking if there is a service bulletin for this problem or repairs. It seems that Ford service departments are completely unaware of this problem however it is well known to ecoboost owners.

Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the check engine light would remain illuminated and the vehicle would not properly accelerate when pressing the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the speed sensor was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000. Jft.

Upon trying to pass or accelerate my truck ,it loss power and boggle down check engine lights are on. Leaving my house three blocks away from my distanation.

While driving a wrench and check engine light comes on, the car decelerates and will not respond to accelerator. Come to stop with engine shuddering. Checked engine code as p2112. Operating on flat surface street at 45 mph.

While accelerating quickly, but not so much as to spin the tires, the vehicle started "bucking". I was doing about 35-40 when it got pretty bad. The engine felt as if it was stopping and starting very quickly. It was actually pretty hard to control and it causes the truck to not allow me to accelerate onto the highway or even reach highway speeds. The check engine light started flashing and did not stop flashing for about 2 minutes. The truck would also not let me accelerate for that amount of time either.

The remote start a nd air conditioning didn't function properly either. The check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic. The vehicle was diagnosed. The vehicle needed new brakes. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,280. Jw.

I was driving on the freeway in the fast lane. Suddenly the wrench warning light and check engine light came on, and the car experienced what appeared to be a total loss of engine power. I placed the hazard lights on and was able to navigate to the shoulder, with 18 wheelers and other cars trying to react to my sudden loss of power and speed. After turning the car off, and restarting it, it appears ok to proceed. This same incident has happened now 8 times in the last few days. I took the car into Ford and they are claiming it's an issue with the throttle body. I mentioned that I see a throttle body recall for 2015-2016 F-150's, but Ford is denying the issue, indicating there is no recall for my 2013. I find many complaints identical to mine for F-150's earlier than 2015. They also claim Ford denies the issue and refuses to fix the problem. Most also reference concern for a significant safety issue, feeling that Ford will only fix this once people die. I took my F-150 to the local Ford dealer today and they verified it was the throttle body, and are charging me $650 to fix it. I have read from others that the component used to fix the problem is the original faulty component, so there is no reason to feel that the problem will not happen again eventually. I have experienced four times on the freeway at 65mph, and several times on city streets at 30mph. I was driving straight, not braking.

As the vehicle slid, the transmission gear down shifted and the contact lost control of their vehicle. The contacted swerved off the road and was able to brake. They turned the engine off. Then they restarted the engine and were able to drive home safely. The check engine light stayed illuminated for the entire weekend. The indecent occurred on Thursday and the light just turned off yesterday. The vehicle was taken to perry Ford national city 2050 national city blvd, national city, CA 91950 (619) 477-2711 where the contact just dropped the vehicle off. They will be notified later of what the vehicle needed for repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. They stated that they would not know what the vehicle needed until the diagnoses was available. The failure mileage was 98,000. Jw.

While driving the 2013 Ford 150 ecoboost, it suddenly lost power,the wrench light came on. . . . Tried accelerating but was not able to. . . Had to find a way to move out of the street before something happened and have someone crash the back. . . . Horrible experience. . After finding a place to park, turned the truck off. . . When turned it back on was working fine again while driving the 2013 Ford f150 ecoboost. It suddently lost power, the wrench light came on, I tried to accelerate but was not able to. I had to pull over to the side of the road, turn off the truck and turn it back on. When I turned it back on it was working fine again. This has happened multiple times during the week. And Ford is no help unless the check engine light comes on. It's is super unsafe to drive, yet Ford says to keep driving the vehicle.

Vehicle intermittently sputters when accelerating from a stop and also when the vehicle is in motion. I replaced the ignition coil and spark plug in cylinder 3. Unfortunately, the intermittent sputter continues to be an issue as well as the check engine light being activated. Accelerating in traffic and from a stop is dangerous and requires additional attention and driving techniques to prevent a potential rear end collision caused by a vehicle approaching my vehicle from the rear.

Tl-the contact owns a 2013 Ford F-150, the contact received NHTSA campaign number 19v075000 power train. The contact stated that while driving 40-45 mph in fourth and/ or fifth gear the vehicle downshifted to first gear. The check engine light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer long-lewis Ford Lincoln 2551 john hawkins pkwy, birmingham, al 35244 (205) 989-3673 where diagnosed that the sparks plugs, boots and timing needed to be adjusted. . The vehicle was repaired however the failure recurred. Additionally, the local dealer stated the recall software fix was not readily available. The manufacturer was contacted where case number cas17397322 was provided. And informed that the regional customer service representative would call. The failure mileage was 94,000. Ap.

When I accelerate on the highway to merge or pass my truck looses power completely can not accelerate. It shudders for about 45 seconds check engine light comes on flashing and it suddenly comes back to life. I took it to my local Ford and they said it was a high pressure pump that needed to be replaced. I replaced it and it is still having the same issue. This seems to be a common issue with these trucks. The more research I have done the more I find about this same issue. Ford should be held liable and recall these trucks for this problem. I now have to take it to another Ford dealership hoping they can figure it out. Last Ford truck I will ever own.

While driving on a highway, I went to pass another car. The transmission downshifted, and the rpm increased, until the engine/car began shuddering and slowed down, with the check engine light blinking. I was able to pull off the highway at the nearest exit, and after a period of time in idle, the engine regained its normal idle speed and operation. Checking codes pulled up a p0302, indicating a cylinder 2 misfire. No issues were found with the spark plugs, coil or cables for cylinder 2. This is a dangerous failure that appears to be affecting other owners of this truck, and could cause potential for injury or death, if the engine stalls at the wrong time.

Bought the truck in September 2015 with 60,000 miles on it. Now I have 101159 miles on it now. At about 98,000 miles my check engine light came on and I lost acceleration power when first taking off from a stop or if I get on the gas the truck hesitates and will either accelerate slow or won't accelerate at all. Almost got in an accident about a week ago when merging onto the freeway do to lost power. Contacted a mechanic and he came picked the truck up and ran testing on it and couple hours later called back and said my timing chains and phasers needed to be replaced. With that said it will cost me $3,000-4,000 to get this fixed and I simply do not have an extra couple thousand dollars to shell out for this fix . I have been doing a lot of searching and have been finding that a ton of people have had this problem and when they contact Ford, Ford is basically saying they are sol and have to pay out of pocket for the fix. I still owe $22,000 and thought about trading it in for something else but feel they will knock $4,000 off what the vehicle is worth. I have no idea what to do at this point. Please help!!!.

Engine rattles upon cold startup and check engine light illuminates from p0016 error code relating to the timing chain being stretched. Ford has issued technical service bulletins regarding this issue meaning it is a known issue with this model of vehicle, yet they refuse to help with the repair yet I have purchased an extended warranty and just so happen to be 3000 miles over the mileage limit.

While accelerating to pass engine lost power and began to shutter check engine light flashed several times and finally cleared all power was restored. This has happened several times since I've owned the vehicle. This was the first time the check engine light flashed. This causes safety concerns. It had 98,000 miles on it the last time it happened.

I excelerated from a stop, suddenly my check engine light started to flash and I started to lose power and acceleration. My vehicle then began to shudder, I let off the accelerator pedal and moved to the side of the road. After about a minute the engine light turned itself off and the full power came back to the truck.

Had the engine studded and drop a cylinder,this is an ecoboost motor,the check engine light started to flash while running rough. It happened as I was passing a tractor trailer on the highway,as I got around him another trailer was coming on behind me,this is when it dropped a cylinder,the trailer almost ran over me. This is a problem with this truck I found out once I did some research,Ford needs to do something about this before someone gets hurt or killed. I called the dealer the first time this happened,as far as the studded and he said bad gas keep driving it(59,500 mls). It happened again at 61,381,took to dealer and they did a TSB 14-0017 reprogram,this worked for about a week then it happened again,took it to the dealer 61850mls,they couldn't get it to do it,I picked it up and 20 miles later it did it again,I got it on video this time so theres no questions, seems as though they know about it but are blowing it off, let me get outside warranty then take a look at it. Let me tell you if it happens again, and my family gets hurt I will own Ford !!!! thanks for you time.

I experienced a condition noted in Ford TSB: asi-32166 "some vehicles, with turbochared gasoline direct injection engines, will exhibit flashing malfunction indicator lamp, an intermittent stumble and/or misfire during hard acceleration during extreme humid or damp conditions. " while driving at a relatively steady 55-60 mph (on a rainy afternoon), I pushed the accelerator down in an effort to overtake a vehicle. Immediately, the "check engine" light began flashing, the truck began to shimmy, and I started to lose power. Unable to accelerate any more, I promptly exited the interstate, parked, shut off my vehicle in an effort to allow it to "reset". When I restarted the vehicle, the check engine light was off and the truck ran fine. I was (thankfully) unable to replicate the scenario on the remainder of my drive home.

In Jan 2017 an electronic throttle body failure caused vehicle to 'stall' and enter "limp home" mode while traveling at highway speed of 65mph. The vehicle sputtered, shuttered & stumbled into "limp home" mode with the wrench symbol and check engine lights displayed on the instrument panel. Dealer replaced the electronic throttle body in Jan 2017. The vehicle started exhibiting similar but less severe problems (sputter & stumble/hesitation) in July 2017, and is increasing in frequency and severity through now. Called the dealer service department to have it diagnosed and they will not acknowledge that this is a known or systemic problem, but it impacts drivability and safety, especially when towing a trailer.

My 2013 f150 eco boost started cutting out while driving home, the wrench illuminated then the check engine as the engine completely shut down. If I would of been on the freeway or pulling something I would've been dead. After coasting off the road. I was able to get it to restart, but the check engine light stayed on and was cutting out. I only had to go 2 miles to get home. I took it to the Ford dealership due to the mileage it wasn't covered, but it was the throttle body that had to be replaced. After doing some research Ford had recalled this on a few vehicles, but not this one yet. It is very dangerous to have it just shut the engine off on you. If you're in traffic or pulling there would be a severe problem. I'm still concerned when I pull. I hope that Ford recalls this!!!.

I wanted to make your office aware and seek any assistance you may be able to offer regarding a safety issue with the Ford ecoboost engine found in many trucks in our state. Recently I was driving on a two lane road and ended up behind a slow moving tractor trailer. When getting to a proper passing zone, I accelerated to pass the vehicle. Just about the time I was alongside it, my truck (a 2013 f150 ecoboos with about 78k miles) started shuddering, a check engine light came on and it drastically reduced power almost causing an accident when another vehicle was approaching from the other direction (this took several seconds - the passing zone was entirely clear when I started the maneuver). I took my vehicle to a local dealer for repairs only to find out that it was from a manufacturer defect affecting condensation in the cooling unit of the turbos. Ford had issued a technical service bulletin (TSB-14-0017) regarding the issue but no recalls made nor any customer notifications sent out. I have notified Ford and requested 1) they reimburse the cost of repairs; 2) issue an immediate recall for this major safety defect; and 3) immediately notify owners of their product as to the possible safety hazard that could occur when putting the engine under a heavy rpm load. Additionally, I am asking if your office can follow up with this request to ensure that someone doesn't encounter the same bad situation or worse. Vehicle runs great most of the time, but when driving at highway speeds for a couple of hours in the rain, snow, humid or misting conditions, the truck will sometimes loose power and start shaking/stuttering when accelerating to pass another vehicle, or when climbing a hill. Most of time, it is a very slight shudder but when under heavy throttle, the engine will start cutting out, loose power and speed, and the check engine light will start flashing. When this happens, I will have to pull over to the slower lane of traffic, or onto the shoulder. After about 30 seconds the check engine light will either go out, or come on solid. It is very frightening when this happens but it has happened enough times that I almost expect it when the conditions are right for it to occur. I have taken it into various Ford dealerships as I am usually out of town on vacation when it happens. They have applied all the TSB¿s recommended by Ford motor, but obviosity they can¿t recreate the issue on demand and apparently can¿t correct it. This is a very dangerous issue and I would support a total recall of all ecoboost vehicles until corrected.

This is an update to my complaint filed preciously. After the second episode of loss of power and the check engine light coming on. I took my ecoboost powered truck to a Ford dealer and they performed TSB 14-0017. This was supposed to fix the engine loosing power. This is why the NHTSA closed the investigation of the f150 ecoboost. This has not worked. Yesterday 11-7-2015 I was on a 2 hour highway trip in rainy conditions. While driving the motor again lost power and could not even maintain highway speeds. This was dangerous to my family and everyone around us. The TSB from Ford has not fixed the dangers of these trucks. Please re-open the investigation into this dangerous vehicle before someone is killed or injured. American roads deserve safe cars.

The contact stated that the vehicle would also drive abnormally when reaching speeds over 60 mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the air compressor had failed and would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, however the failure recurred. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken back to the dealer however, details of the diagnosis could not be provided. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for repairs related to the failure and it was informed each time that the brakes and rotors had prematurely deteriorated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Ford f150 ecoboost 2013 13,000 mile the engine shakes and a lost of power when passing. The check engine light come on while its happen but shuts off when the power come back. I have taken it to Ford 4times but because it has no check engine light on they look at me like if I'm crazy.

Driving in rainy conditions attempting to accelerate my truck started to lose power, shaking and check engine light started to flash. After getting out of traffic to pull over called my wife to bring me my o. B. D hand held found that I had codes p0300, p0304, p0305 and p0306 which is for cylinders misfiring . This is the second time this has happened in heavy traffic condition it could easily cause a traffic accident, does someone have to die before ya'll take action. My truck is at kenly Ford in kenly north carolina and like the first time they play it off like I don't know what I am talking about and they always say they can't find anything wrong with it. Please don't sit around and let this problem cost someone their life. . . . . .

As I tried to accelerate to pass a vehicle the motor in my truck started to miss, the check engine light flashed on and off and I was not able to accelerate. The motor proceeded to idle even though I was pushing in the gas pedal. After about 15 seconds of no response to the gas pedal being pushed the entire truck started shaking as though it was about to fall apart. Another 30 seconds later and everything went back to normal. This occurred in a 2013 F-150 with the ecoboost motor.

After driving for several hours on the interstate we had stopped to re-fuel. Upon re-entry onto the interstate the truck failed to accelerate, the check engine light came on, the truck was shaking it took 30-40 seconds before normal operation resumed. This is the 3rd time this has happened, twice on of which were on the interstate while attempting to merge into traffic or pass vehicles. All three times the conditions have been high humidity,rain & traveling at a relatively constant speed for an extended period of time.

During acceleration to highway speed during rainy weather my truck exhibited a power loss. The check engine light started to flash and the engine looses power and the vehicle decelerated. This has occured 2 times since I have owned this vehicle (since December 2013). I have the truck in the shop now for another issue and have informed the dealer of the incidents but have not heard back from them.
