36 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/09/2013

I was driving and went to pass another vehicle. My check engine light began to flash and my vehicle suffered an immediate power loss. Dealership has informed me that there is no fix and that this was an ongoing issue/investigation with NHTSA? this sudden loss of power leaves drivers in a very unsafe position. This is a brand new vehicle and Ford is of no help.

37 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2013

Driving down highway at approximately 60-65mph when I attempted to accelerate. Vehicle began to stall/shake and lose power. I was unable to accelerate while the vehicle was shaking. Check engine light began to flash on and off.

38 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2013

The contact owns a 2013 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle decelerated and began shaking violently. The check engine warning light was also illuminated. The failure recurred twice. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where the technician stated that the spark plugs would have to be replaced. The vehicle was being repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 10,000.

39 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/06/2013

I was merging onto the highway while it was raining. In attempting to accelerate to merge in front of a semi my vehicle stated shuttering violently and lost power. I could not get past 40mph. The check engine light was flashing. This was after the truck had been running for two hours. The semi almost rear ended me as I got off the road as soon as possible. I shut the truck off and restarted the engine and it ran fine after that. I took the truck back to my dealer the next day and they could find nothing wrong, not even an error code. The truck has a Ford 6 cylinder eco boost engine.

40 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/06/2013

The contact owns a 2013 Ford F-150 ecoboost. The contact stated that when driving at various speeds, the accelerator failed to respond to acceleration attempts as the check engine warning light illuminated intermittently. The contact also mentioned that the vehicle erroneously decelerated when the accelerator pedal was being depressed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 3,400.

41 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2013

Raining most of the day, I exited I-29 on to st 46, when I tried to pass a car, the engine pretty much shut down and began viborating. The check engine light came on and I had to pull over and let it idle for a bit. This happened again 2 days later on I-90. The dealer said there was nothing they could do. I'm lucky traffic was very light at the time.

42 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2013

I took my 2013 Ford F-150 with the ecoboost engine on a week long vacation down to south texas (approx. 1200 miles or 17. 5 hours one way) it was sunny and warm the entire trip down and the vehicle ran great. However on the way back up to iowa in was raining as soon as we left and only let up raining for 20 min increments the entire way home. About 5 hours in we pulled off the interstate to get gas and eat. We got back in the vehicle and proceeded to get on the on ramp and return to the interstate. I was going about 40 mph with smooth acceleration when I gave my truck a little bit of gas to merge into the 75mph traffic. My truck did not move, instead it continued to go 40mph and revved up to redline. I had to let off of the gas completely and put my foot back on it and slowly climb up to 65mph. The truck started shaking horribly and my check engine light started to flash. After about 45 seconds the check engine light stopped flashing and the engine stopped shaking. I then could make very slight speed increments. I could not however step on the gas to pass somebody without the truck revving up to redline and shaking again. This happened every time I tried to accelerate quickly the rest of the way back (12. 5 hours). The truck runs great until it is introduced to 70mph interstate driving in heavy rain for long periods of time.

43 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2013

3. 5l ecoboost engine. Went to merge on highway, pressed accelerator, engine stumbled, pressed further on accelerator, engine stumbled, loss of power, check engine light flashing, violent shaking when trying to accelerate to safe speed on -ramp, light went out after a period of 1 - 2 minutes. Had to pull off side of road to avoid traffic as I was unable to accelerate. This was the second incident for this truck. Ford engineering to my service department that there was no fix but they were aware of the issue.

44 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2013

Ford F-150 ecoboost loss of power. - trying to pass a semi on the highway when the vehicle stumbled after a downshift, lost power, check engine light flashed, and the vehicle started to shudder. Tried to pull off of side of road but once I was able to get over to the median, the light stopped flashing and the shudder went away as did the light. It was in the mid 60s, I had traveled about 120 miles on the highway at about 70 mph in ohio on I-75 south of toledo. It had been raining off and on all day.

45 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2013

I purchased my truck brand new in April of 2013. It is a 2013 Ford F-150 fx4 super crew ecoboost. Monday (9-23-13) I was driving on interstate I-75 at approx. 70mph, I hit the accelerator to pass a vehicle and when I did, my truck dropped down to 2nd or 3rd gear, began to shake violently, lost power (hp), and the check engine light came on. I pulled over, turned off the truck and waited a couple of minutes and proceeded on my drive home. I drove one more hour, stopped in tampa for about two hours, then got back on I-75. One and a half hours later, it did the same thing at 60mph this time. This truck is known for this issue. The intercooler seems to be the problem. My truck now has 9500 miles on it. What's upsetting is that this is the 2nd time my truck has done this. The first time occurred on July 15, 2013 with 5,100 miles on the odometer. My local Ford dealership kept my truck for 4 days and replaced the intercooler, assuring me the problem was resolved (which it wasn't, as my truck repeated the issue yesterday, even with the replacement part). There are have been numerous complaints about this model truck having this issue. This is a huge safety concern, as the first time this happened to me, I could have been hit head-on by oncoming traffic (because the vehicle totally loses all power, no acceleration).

46 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2013

I purchased a 2013 Ford 150 supercrew cab 4x4 with the 3. 5l v6 motor 4 weeks ago. All has been well until the first rain last week. I was on the freeway behind a slow vehicle, I went to pass they vehicle ahead of me on a four lane freeway, and my truck stumbled and lost power instantly as I put my foot down. I had myself, wife, and two children 1 and 2. 5 in the truck. It was very scary. The check engine light was on and with no power as safely as I could I moved back into the slow lane of traffic and off the freeway around other passing vehicles. I cannot believe this. I have 2,400 miles on the vehicle. I turned it off. Restarted and no check engine light. It ran fine, I scaredly pulled back on freeway and went 50 mph to my destination. I reported issue to Ford and took truck in. No issue is shown and vehicle is running fine. They kept my vehicle overnight to diagnose no issue. Help! please!.

47 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2013

I was driving from milwaukee to des moines on Sunday sept 15th, 2013, and when I went to pass another driver in dubuque that pulled in front of me the truck lost power and failed to accelerate as I anticipated. It was raining off and on throughout the trip, temp was 55deg, and I had been on cruise control for the majority of the time before this happened. Basically, I went to change lanes and pushed the accelerator pedal and instead of gaining speed quickly I received no acceleration causing the cars behind me to have to brake quickly. During this time the check engine light was flashing indicating a mis-fire was occurring at which point I knew what was happening and got off the highway and the mis-fires ceased and after a brief stop I was able to continue my drive. My truck was built on 1/15/2013 and has all the updates to the intercooler Ford claims addressed the issue. The issue is definitely not fixed and despite Fords claim in their response to the nhsta investigation this is a safety issue. Ford also claims in their response to the nhsta investigation that many complaints are just against the dealers and not for safety concerns so let me be perfectly clear here this is a safety complaint!.

48 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2013

I was driving 65mph on the right hand side of a two lane highway. In order to pass a car that was going at a reduced speed I moved into the left hand lane and began to accelerate. Immediately as I accelerated the engine misfired and then I lost engine power. I had to brake and get back into the right hand lane so I would not cause an issue with oncoming traffic behind me. The check engine light immediately started flashing and I pulled over. It was a dangerous situation to lose power at high speeds and the outcome could have been much worse. I was glad I did not have too much traffic behind me and the cars were able to navigate around me as I decelerated due to the engine misfiring. Scary situation to be in and disheartening after buying this truck brand new and only having 10,000 miles on it. Ford needs to do something.

49 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2013

During acceleration to pass a car, my truck exhibited a power loss. The check engine light starts flashing and the engine looses power and the truck decelerates. This has now happened 6 times in various conditions. In 3 instances the engine almost stalled. It continued to stutter until I put the truck in park, shut the engine off and restarted. Twice, this has happened in chicago traffic while merging onto the highway and resulted in a very dangerous situation. I have taken my truck to the dealer 4 times but they say no computer codes were recorded. I have contacted Ford but the regional customer service manager says she has never heard of anyone with this problem before. They refuse to do anything about it and told me to continue to take my truck to the dealer when these issues occur. My truck is now 9 months old with 13,000 miles on it. The most recent occurrence was in March of this year.

50 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2013

The contact owns a 2013 Ford F-150. The contact was driving 35 mph when the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle began to shake violently and then stalled. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where a diagnostic was performed. The contact was informed that the cold air cooler was defective however, a remedy was not available for the defect. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 7500.

51 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2013

I was traveling on the highway behind a truck towing a big camper. When I got a chance to try and pass him I got over to go around him and went to accelerate and my truck lost all power (check engine light started flashing) and I had to apply brake hard to slow back down to get back behind the truck. Luckily there was not anyone behind me so I was able to get back over. I had to pull over and set and the check engine light finally went out and truck started running fine. I took my truck into Ford and they say nothing is wrong with it. This is a 2013 f150 with the ecoboost 3. 5 engine with less than 11k miles. I'm afraid to even drive it now.

52 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2013

The contact owns a 2013 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving approximately 44 mph, the vehicle stalled as the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the air deflector plate needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 16,000.

53 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2013

While driving on a highway at 75 mph I accelerated to pass a car and the check engine light began flashing and the truck started shuddering and would not accelerate, it started decelerating. I pulled off the road and put the truck in park. I revved the engined until the turbos started spooling normally again.

54 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2013

While driving in rainy coniditions at 55 mph, the driver acceslerated which kicked into passing gear. At this time the steering wheel began to shake violently, the vehicle lost all power (though remained on) and decellerated to about 45 mph on it's own. The check engine light began blinking and remained lit for appx 1 minute. Once it went off the vehicle regained normal operations. However, when attempting to accelerate again the same issue occurred. The next day in dry conditions the same situation occurred when accelerating quickly to pass only this time the check engine light stayed on. The same situation has not occurred again, though the light remains on. It is scheduled to go into the dealership tonight.

55 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2013

While merging onto a highway via an on ramp in rainy conditions I was almost involved in an accident when my 2013 Ford f150 ecoboost equipped truck lost power and would not accelerate. I was forced to the shoulder as the approaching tractor trailer was unable to stop in time and the impending collision would have caused serous harm to my family. The check engine light flashed for a few moments as we drove slowly on the shoulder and then it went off. No further highway travel was used following this potentially catastrophic incident due to the rainy conditions. One additional incident occurred with the truck one month prior but did not result in the check engine light. When pulling out of a parking lot onto a busy street the truck hesitated for a few moments before finally accelerating. When the truck finally responded a large smoke cloud appeared behind the truck and the engine rev'd much higher than normal. Until the recent event we thought it was an isolated incident. There was no rain or excessive moisture in the air on this particular day.

56 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2013

I was driving my new 2013 f150 ecoboost in the rain and I tried to pull to the left to pass a slower car on the highway. As I went to give it gas, about 90% throttle, the truck felt like it hit a brick wall, stuttered and started shaking. The check engine light came on and I was unable to drive the car about about 55 mph. If I tried to drive past that it would just shake. The truck had no power. I drove it like this for about five minutes and then the check engine light went off and everything was ok. On the way back about a week later, once again in the rain, the same thing happened. Since then I have tried to duplicate this in dry conditions and the truck performs perfect. Only when it is wet outside does this problem happen.

57 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2013

The contact owns a 2013 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle stalled as the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for a diagnostic. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 27,000 and the current mileage was 38,000.

58 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2013

Driving new Ford 2013 F-150 with the ecoboost engine. It was raining at the time. I tried to pass a vehicle and it went into limp mode, engine light came on and would not accelerate. This happened again several weeks later and the check engine light stayed on. I took it to the dealership and they replaced #6 spark plug and the catalytic converter. The problem happened again. Now I hardly drive the truck and it stays in the garage especially on rainy days.

59 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2013

6/08/13 while traveling from kingsville to rio hondo at 6 am for a fishing trip, I accelerated hard to pass a semi-truck. My f150 shuddered violently in the back end, and I felt a significant loss of power. The check engine light blinked excessively before extinguishing. The truck resumed normal operation fairly quickly, within 5 sec. I continued to my destination with no further problems, making sure to limit my speed and make no more hard accelerations. The weather was rainy and wet conditions. I intended on investigating this issue once I returned home. 6/09/13 the truck had been parked and not driven until my departure on sun, 2 pm. On my way home I was forced to accelerate quickly on hwy 77 on ramp from fm 107 to keep up with traffic. The truck once again shuddered violently and the a/c began blowing hot air, the loss of power was much more significant than the last episode and I was forced to pull onto side of hwy 77 to avoid being struck by traffic behind me. The engine light blinked and continued to stay on. The truck resumed normal operation; however the length of time before that happened was much longer than before. I was certain I was going to be stranded and it was necessary for me to take emergency measures. The weather was hot and dry.

60 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2013

While traveling at highway speed on I-69 in michigan between lansing and flint, I attempted to merge into the passing lane to allow merging traffic from the on-ramp onto the expressway. In order to change lanes, I used firm acceleration to avoid contact with the faster vehicles in the passing lane. The steering wheel started shacking violently while the check engine light flashed. All forward acceleration was impossible the engine sputtered for 45-60 seconds after the event until power was restored. One week after I took delivery of the truck, this problem began on a similar trip on the way to toledo around the dundee exit on I-23. The vehicle only had 400 miles on it at the time. This was in early may 2013. I took the vehicle to the dealer who performed the TSB replacing the charged air cooler and updating the software in the engine control module. This can be repeated on any trip of significant duration on a rainy day. The TSB did absolutely nothing to address this problem, and I fear for my safety as well as my family's safety. I do not let me wife drive the car because she would not be as well equipped to deal with an event like this. I feel cheated by Ford, and I am not satisfied with their attempts of fixing this. Furthermore, I know every time this happens the engine is taking in large amounts of water through the intake, and this is catastrophic for engine life and longevity. Please pursue recall efforts now on this horrible engine.

61 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2013

While running approximately 45 mph I accelerated hard to make a pass and the truck just lost all power. It started sputtering and I fell back into line. The check engine light came on and it continued to run rough so I pulled off the road. As I did this it "caught up" and started running smooth again and the check engine light went off. Later in the day I tried it again and it started to do the same thing so I quickly let off. Both of these times it was raining. Later after the rain stopped I tried it again with no problem. It only happened when it rains. I took it to the Ford dealership and they told me there was a fix but my truck was made before included date. Don't know that date. Told me also that no code was registered on the computer even though the check engine light came on. Truck battery keeps going dead too and it has now been in the dealership for 8 days straight and I still don't have any answers. Truck has been in shop 10 days in past month.

62 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2013

Traveling on the interstate during heavy rains. Traffic in my lane stopped. I tried to change lanes and accelerate briskly. When I tried to accelerate, the vehicle started to shutter and the engine power died. It seemed to go into limp mode. The check engine light flashed several times. The vehicle would not accelerate and left me hanging in the travel lane with faster traffic almost causing a crash. Vehicle is one week old and has approximately 600 miles on it. The engine is the Ford ecoboost 3. 5l v6. The vehicle had to be turned off and restarted to get it to drive normal again.

63 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2013

While on i95 in virginia, after traveling for about an hour with the cruise control on in an intermittent rain, I attempted to accelerate to pass another vehicle. I depressed the accelerator and the truck started to shake and buck. The check engine light started flashing and I was not able to accelerate. Any attempt to do so caused the truck to jerk and shake. As I moved to the right lane to get to the shoulder, the light stopped flashing and the truck behaved normally. I could not replicate the incident since I did not drive at a constant speed again for any period of time remaining in the trip. This occurred in a 2013 Ford f150 XLT supercrew with a 3. 5l eco boost engine.

64 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2013

May 22, 2013- while driving south on I-55 and merging onto I-12, I was traveling approximately 35 mph when I gave the truck gas to accelerate into oncoming interstate traffic of 70+ mph. My truck completely went limp and I could not accelerate at all with the check engine light coming on. I was in real trouble at this point so I pulled off with one tire in the grass to avoid a serious accident and potentially being killed. Approximately 1 minute later the truck regained power and I continued to my destination with the check engine light going back off. May 23, 2013- I called Ford dealership where I bought my vehicle and they explained to me that nothing was wrong if the warning light went off. Stating the system does this as an environmental precaution? may 28, 2013- I was traveling in galveston, TX at 25 mph when the check engine light came on again. I did attempt to give it gas to see if the same problem was occurring and it once again would not respond with the check engine light staying on permanently this time. I parked my truck for work until June 11, 2013. I took a picture of my dash to document the warning light. Called Ford dealership @ 7:20 a. M. On 6/10/13 explaining my situation. He stated that over the phone it sounds like the inner cooler. He explained to me that it is not dangerous and not to worry. He said the part was an updated part and they would have to run diagnostics to know the problem for sure. Dropped truck off at Ford dealership @ 11:10 a. M. On 6/12/13. Received phone call from Ford @ 3:20 on 6/13/2012. They told me that it was not my inner cooler because my truck has this so called updated inner cooler and they replaced my catalytic converter. They assured me this was fixed and would not happen again since the system was updated. The power loss happened two more times since and has me really worried to drive it.

65 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2013

While driving on the interstate with cruise control set approximately at 70mph, I stepped on the gas to accelerate past a vehicle. The truck did not respond but decelerated and the steering wheel began to shake. The check engine light flashed. I continued to drive and with only slight pressure to the gas to maintain speed. After approximately 5-10 seconds the vehicle regained power. The incident happened a second time, same conditions same results. The Ford dealer says its a known problem with parts back ordered. This seems unacceptable if its a know problem. Someone can get in a serious accident at highway speeds if they pulled out in fast moving traffic expecting acceleration to be there.

66 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2013

Upon hard acceleration to pass on highway the truck lost power check engine light continually flashed and shuttered when attempted to give truck any acceleration. After a few minutes of driving on shoulder to get to safe exit vehicle seemed to reset and regain all functions and power.

67 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2012

While traveling in rain on the highway - outside temp 40 deg f / dewpoint 40 (this is relevant - this issue occurs whenever temp & dew point are within 10 of each other for many others) at 65mph - I attempted to pass a slower moving vehicle. After my lane change, I attempted to accelerate & the vehicle downshifted & revved high for a second and then ilost 90% of my engines power, the vehicle began to shudder & shake and a check engine light (cel) began to blink on my dash. I was nearly hit be 2 fast moving semi trucks as I tried to cross 3 lanes of traffic to get to the berm with 0 ability to accelerate any further. Stopping & starting the engine made the issue go away. A similar even occurred this morning as well but cleared itself after I let off of the gas. I have heard numerous reports of this issue on different F-150 forums. The issue is apparently too much condensation in the ecoboost engines twin turbo intercooler (hence the temp/dew point correlation). Ford has been attempting to resolve this for 3 years now - and just released a new TSB 12-10-19 which I hope will resolve it. I have had the vehicle for 14 days - and it should not have been sold to me with this known dangerous failure possibility being present. The TSB is being applied to my vehicle tomorrow & I hope it works. Numerous others have had different attempts at repair & none have made the issue permanently go away. This is a major safety concern.

68 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2012

Had been driving in rain all day. Pulled out to pass on two lane highway and check engine light started flashing. Engine started sputtering and stopped accelerating. Had to pull back behind vehicle I was trying to pass. Dealer said I had same problem other ecoboost owners were having and replaced intercooler. It did not fix problem as it has happened 3 more times. Dealer said Ford was "working on a solution". I have to wait for recall and just be aware that problem could occur if conditions are right.
