36 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2024

My 2013 Ford F-150 king ranch suddenly downshifted while traveling at highway speeds. It downshifted into 5th gear, not 1st, luckily. This has occurred twice and I will take my truck to my local dealer tomorrow morning. A few years ago, I had transmission work completed because my truck was stuck in first gear and required tuning off the engine to get it back to shifting properly. At that time, I was unaware of the 2019 recall for the transmission control module and speed sensor, and spent money on the repair because my local Ford dealer denied that this was part of the recall. I now suspect that was not true.

38 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2024

I had all the recalls done to my vehicle that pertains to a problem with my vehicle suddenly shifting to first gear at freeway speeds. This was done about two years ago. On July 7th, 2024 my vehicle suddenly shifted to first gear while traveling at a rate of 55 miles per hour. My rear tires suddenly locked up and I lost control of my vehicle. Luckily I avoided an accident. I’m reporting this information because Ford’s recall to this problem did not solve the issue and this can cause accidents.

They said I need to replace the leadframe in the transmission and reprogram it, which will cost me $1500 out of pocket. Fast forward to today and my truck went out and will not start. As you are driving the vehicle will randomly down shift into first gear, causing the vehicle to potentially slam into first while in mid drive almost as if you hit a wall, this causes the vehicle to lose any information on the dash including speedometer. There are no warning lamps on prior to incident. Took it to a dealer to have it diagnosed and diagnosis was recorded as transmission speed sensor which was common for recalls recently. Uncertain, how or when it started happening there was an elderly couple who owned the vehicle before me. This incident occurs frequently but not all the time.

Ford has a known problem with the timing chain that results in needed repairs that cost in excess of $4000. The truck has 85000 miles and has been well maintained. I see that Ford had a recall on ecoboost v6 engines. However, no recall was made on the v8 5 liter engine even thoough Ford is well aware of the problem. I believe that Ford is hiding/falsifying information to avoid fixing the problem. I was informed that this issue is not frequent, but does happen in 20 to 25 percent of their vehicles. This is not a warranty issue. This is an issue of Ford not complying with regulations to identify and provide recalls for defective equipment.
