I was driving down the road and applied the brakes, the brake peddle went to the floor without any brakes being applied. Almost hit a few cars and drove over the curb. Downshifted and depressed my e break!!!! my brakes do not work. No brake fluid external leaks anywhere. Brake fluid reservoir was 90% empty. Check brake fluid light came on. I filled break fluid reservoir and 10 break peddle pumps latter the break fluid was gone from break fluid reservoir.
I noticed a small round plastic part on my drivers side floor mat that appeared to be a flat disk broken in several pieces. See photo. I didn't think too much about it at the time. A while later my neighbor said my brakes lights were on and my truck had been parked for a quite some time. After not being able to get the brake lights to go out and some internet queries I was able to determine and confirm the small plastic disk came off the top of the brake pedal where it would make contact with the brake light switch. As small of a part as it is, the brake lights were affected and the hill assist function warning was coming on as well. After checking Ford does not sell the tiny plastic disk, worth about 5 dollars, but will sell the entire brake pedal assembly for hundreds. Other auto manufacturers sell the disk called a brake pedal stop pad. This problem is occurring on other Fords as I was able to find examples like mine on the internet. There should be a better designed part or brake pedal to prevent this from happening.
While driving my 2015 Ford f150 on a city street at 45 miles per hour the vehicle lost acceleration, rmp dropped to barely 2 and hill assist disabled light came on. Glided to a red light, put the vehicle in neutral, came to a stop and kept the gas lightly pressed hoping to keep power to the engine. When lighted turned green put truck back into drive and acceleration returned. Parked at my place of business. Shut the truck off but the brake lights stayed on. Had the vehicle towed to the dealership because of concern to drive it after losing acceleration (tow truck driver call the vehicle in limp mode). The dealership found not fault codes but did find plastic pieces on the floor board. Dealership said it was a "broken brake pedal" - a small plastic disc (grommet) inside the brake assembly broke into pieces causing loss f acceleration, the electronic messaging system to disable hill assist and the brake lights to remain on. Dealership said they have seen this in Ford fusions but not in an f150. The new brake assembly is a total redesign from the the one that the vehicle was built with. The image on the left is the broken brake assemble (the finger is pointing to the damaged item), the part on the right where you will see the small white disc (grommet) is the replacement brake assembly. I purchased the vehicle new in 2015 and have been the only owner. My vehicle has 54k miles, is driven locally, not used to tow or off road and is garaged when not in use. A vehicle loosing acceleration while driving is a major safely concern and I hope this will be investigated as it is a known issue in other Ford vehicles.
My truck was serviced with complete fluids and systems check on July 2nd, 2020 reporting everything in the green check zone. Saturday August 1st, 2020 while returning from a family trip, the brake warning light came on indicating a brake problem. The brakes were applied to ensure that they were working and when applied, there was no braking power and the pedal went straight to the floor. When we were finally able to stop we rolled into a gas station and opened the hood to check the brake fluid level and it was empty. So we purchased two bottles of brake fluid to refill the reservoir thinking that maybe the service person forgot to refill the brake fluid. Once we filled the reservoir and pumped the brakes a bit they got tight so we got back on the road. As soon as we pulled onto the road and began to drive the brake warning signal came on again. Again, we pulled over to check for leaks, which there were none. And again, the brake reservoir was empty. Again we purchase more brake fluid and additional bottles and refill the reservoir to the fill line. We drove around the parking lot quite a bit before we decided to get back on the road due to the vehicle seeming to function normally. At this point we enter the highway and drove to our area near the dealer. When exiting the highway a great deal of smoke came from the back of our car that smelled like brake fluid. We pulled over and again there was nothing leaking. We still seemed to have some breaking ability so drove the truck to the car dealership to park it for them to take a look at to do repairs. Upon doing some research I saw that Ford motor company just announced the beginnings of a recall on June 6 for this same problem on this year vehicle.
Driving down the highway at 60mph and out of no where the low brake fluid light came on the dash screen. Pushed on the brake and it went to the floor, pumping the brake did not help. Was able to manually down shift and stop with the e brake. Lucky I was not in any traffic.
While driving my low brake fluid light came on immediately followed by complete, not partial, complete brake failure. I was lucky enough to be able to downshift some and continue straight. This is a serious problem. Luckily the roadway traveled was not heavy with traffic, had to downshift and roll through stop signs to get home.
I was on my way to work at app. 4:20 a. M. When my low brake fluid light started to chime. About 1 mile from work. The closer I got I noticed my brakes were not working properly the closer I got the worse the brakes got. Pedal went to the floor and I am not stopping. . Scary. Thank god no traffic was around. Got in parking lot at work where it coasted to a stop. . Called a tow truck and had towed to a Ford dealership. . Seal blew out of master cylinder and filled brake booster. Causing brake not to work. Thank god I was by myself. The day before(Sunday)the whole family and I were out just enjoying the day. . We were on the highway, state routes, neighborhood streets. To think what might have happened to us and or somebody else. . Even now after the truck has been fixed I do not feel safe . What if it happens again? what if I am not so lucky the next time?.
I was driving and the low brake fluid warning light came on and started alarming and then went off. The parking brake light remained on and I checked my brakes and they were okay. I made it a few miles on a 4 lane major highway and started to put my brakes on to slow down and get into a turn lane to turn left and my brake peddle went to the floor. I realized I wasn't going to be able to make the turn so I made sure it was going to be safe to remain straight and I started down shifting to slow down and then started slowly applying the emergency brake as I was exiting off the shoulder of the road. I was able to safely stop. I checked my brake fluid reservoir and it was empty. I had no leaks under my vehicle. I got some help from my dad and ended up driving it to the local Ford dealership. I burned through 1 gallon of brake fluid getting it there. I found out that the brake fluid was going from the reservoir to the brake booster and then vacuum to the engine and being burned up that way.
While driving my local roads at about 45 mph I received a warning on the dash for "low brake fluid" followed by a solid lit brake light on the dash. I made it home with noticeably spongy brake pedaling. I opened the hood to see the brake fluid reservoir was empty down to the sensor connected on the side. I filled it with the appropriate brake fluid to just below the max line. I pumped the brake pedal until it felt normal again. It has not moved since yesterday (April 8 2020). Today (April 9 2020), I go to take a short trip for coffee. When I start the truck and touch the brake pedal it went immediately to the floor with no resistance. Without attempting to move the truck, I immediately popped the hood and saw that the reservoir was completely empty this time. Overnight it appears that the entirety of the brake res. Was drained and it had not been driven since being topped off. No leaking under the truck nor on the driveway has been noticed. It is being towed to Ford dealer service department today for this brake issue. I'm lucky I was not going at higher speeds when this occurred seemingly so abruptly. I hope it's fixed and recalled soon. My Ford dealer informs me that it's not currently covered under a recall.
As I was driving on the highway, I got a warning on my dash saying the brake fluid level was low, accompanied by the brake light illuminating on the dash. As I went to pull over to a safe location, the brake pedal went all the way to the floor when I pressed the pedal. At this point I had no power from my brakes, having to stop by downshifting and using the emergency brake. Upon inspection there was a very small amount of brake fluid in the reservoir and no visible signs of a leak or broken brake lines. I purchased brake fluid and refilled the reservoir. Within 2 miles the warning illuminate again with the brake pedal going to the floor. I had to have my truck towed to the dealership for repairs after this incident.
Started the vehicle and immediately received an error message stating the brake fluid reservoir had low fluid. The brake warning light was also activated. When the brake pedal was depressed it went all the wall to the floor. Refilled the reservoir and restarted the vehicle. Moved the vehicle and pressed the brake pedal, which went to the floor. Received another brake activated and low brake fluid warnings again. I have had the vehicle towed to beechmont Ford, cincinnati, OH for diagnosis and repair. Awaiting their findings.
I depressed brake pedal to start truck. Once truck started the pedal went all the way to the floor and the brake warning light on the dash illuminated. Tried moving the truck a couple feet to see if I had brakes, and the truck did not stop when the pedal was depressed. Used the emergency brake to stop. Checked the master cylinder, it was empty. I added about 10 oz. Of brake fluid, pumped up the brakes and it worked. Drove about 8 minutes to work, brakes ok. I returned to the truck after work, about 10 hours and the pedal went to the floor again and no brakes. I filled master cylinder again and was able to drive home. I drove very slowly and carefully because I expected to brakes to fail at any time. I live 5 miles from work. If it was any more I would have had the truck towed. I will have it towed to the dealer in the morning.
While driving in downtown traffic on a city street, the low brake fluid indicator came on as well as the brake warning light. The brake pedal went nearly to the floor and braking ability was severely diminished. I happened to be close to an auto parts store so I filled up the fluid reservoir with approximately 24 oz. Of brake fluid. Within about 3 miles the lights came on and brakes failed again. My wife brought more brake fluid to me and I added approximately 24 oz. More. I barely made it home, another 5 miles, as the brakes were failing and the reservoir was empty again. There is no sign of a leak. After checking online and discussing with a Ford service representative, this appears to be a common defect where a seal in the master cylinder has failed and the brake fluid is being sucked into the brake booster.
While driving the 2015 f150 3. 5 liter 6-cylinder with 17,000 miles on a city street at 30mph, the brake fluid light illuminated. Within the next mile the vehicle experienced a total failure of the brake system; the red brake light came on and the pedal went completely to the floor. Using the emergency brake and low gear, I was able to narrowly avoid crashing into stopped vehicles ahead of me. The Ford dealership's mechanic initially diagnosed the issue as a failed brake sensor. Replacing the sensor, however, failed to correct the problem. As I now understand it, the brake booster seals were ruined by a leaking master cylinder although no fluid was ever seen under the vehicle prior to this event.
On vacation and out of town. . . Was driving my Ford truck and "low brake fluid light" appeared. Pulled immediately into first parking lot walmart store. Checked fluid and found reservoir was low. Went into walmart to purchases break fluid. None available. Pushed on brake to start truck and break went to floor. Called aaa and tow truck took my truck to university auto repair. Diagnosis was master cylinder malfunction all all break fluid backed into brake booster assembly cuasing breaks to fail. My major concern was I just pulled amtrialer from phx,az to flagstaff,az on interstate rt I-17. Note: this streach of road over 100 miles is mountainess with 6% grades. It horrifies me to think if I would have lost brakes going up and down this interstate from and to home. It could have been a horrific fatility given the fact that from the time the low brake fluid light came on and mintues later I lost my breaks. Even after having my truck brakes repaired, I was very nervous dring down the I-17 interstate back to my home in phoenix. I should not have to have fear of breaks failing. Researching,I have found master cylinder and break booster assembly failed on previous years fod f 150 models. 2014 model being the most recent.
Brake warning lights come on with low fluid warning; lost braking when pedal went to floor shortly thereafter when I was on expressway. I avoided accident barely. I keep adding fluid, but no sign of leaking that I can see, but getting white smoke from exhaust . Very dangerous!.
While my wife was driving the vehicle with my two children in the in it, the brake fluid light came on. Almost immediately after the brakes began to fail. The pedal began to have less resistance and would barely stop. Thankfully this occurred as she was arriving to our house. I checked it myself as soon as I could the next morning and there was absolutely no resistance on the pedal as it would just go all the way to the floor. Had this happened as we were driving a longer distance, it could have ended very badly as there were no early warning signs to my fluid level being low. I added fluid and test drove it around the block. It seemed to work normally again. However, as I got into the truck the next morning, I experienced the same issue.
This afternoon I left work to drive half a mile to my son's daycare when the low brake fluid light came on. Once parked at daycare I checked all lines, wheels, and under the hood and had no indication of any leaks. I went inside to get my son and came back out and as I started to drive away I found my brake pedal would go to the floor with zero pressure and the brakes were totally failed. I had a friend bring me a large bottle of brake fluid and I refilled the reservoir. I did a short test drive around the daycare and that was enough to lower the fluid level. I live 3. 1 miles away from the daycare so decided to carefully drive home. I had to stop 3 times to refill the reservoir when the low fluid light came on before the brakes failed completely, again. I went through 4 bottles of brake fluid in 3 miles, still with no indication of any leaks. I feel very fortunate that this didn't happen to me while driving at greater speeds and/or on a busy road. I now have to deal with missed work and trying to get my truck to a dealership and repaired, while being a single parent of a toddler.
While driving and low brake light fluid light comes on no warning. Lose all braking ability. Failure of the master brake cylinder. From looking online this is a known issue with these trucks.
Vehicle has 63,000 miles and today the warning low brake fluid light came on while driving home. At that point the brakes we functioning normally. There was a auto parts store a few miles from my location so I diverted to the store. I thought I was either topping off fluid or would find a broken line when I arrived. At the turn into the parking lot the brake pedal went all the way to the floor nearly no braking power only going 5 miles an hour or less. At the store I inspected the vehicle and found no leaks. The reservoir was very low. I replace the fluid to the correct level and continued home. Within 5 miles the light came on again. I proceeded 2 more miles home to inspect the vehicle. I found the reservoir low again, I thoroughly inspected for leaks and found nothing on the outside of the cylinder or any lines. The I began to research the problem. I will now contact the dealer to arrange for repairs. I am suspect that something internally to the cylinder is leaking. Where else would 10oz of fluid go? if anyone from Ford is reading this (national safety manager. . . ) it's not just the goods or services you provide that matters. Integrity counts, and the long-term success of your business depends on it. I teach my children that lying, cheating and stealing are unacceptable. I expect integrity in my employees, it matters. Time to step up before something deadly happens.
Driving on expressway brake fluid light went on when I got off on the exit ramp I went to hit the brakes and the brake peddle went to the floor and I didn't have any brakes. I was able to eventually get the truck to stop but I had to downshift and running off the pavement. Called tow truck had trucked towed to webb Ford highland, in.
Driving about 30mph when low brake fluid light came on dashboard. When I pulled over brake pedal went to the floor and I lost all my brakes had to have brake master cylinder and vacuum pump replaced also brake fluid got into the fuel system and contaminated that.
Driving down the road, the low brake fluid light came on, the first time I had to stop, I had no brakes. Pedal went down to the floor. Just missed hitting the car in front of me. There was no warning from the time the light came on and having no brakes. It was the first depression of the pedal following the light. I was on thomasville road in tallahassee at 6:30 in the morning, light traffic, four lane road, 45mph. Firestone is telling me that repairs will cost $2,500+. Truck has 60,000 miles, needs new master cylinder, booster, front calipers because the left was locking up, new front rotors, new rear rotors and read pads.
Driving home brake light low fluid alarm comes on. Worried I go to apply the brakes and the petal goes to the floor. I am traveling eastbound on a freeway (summerlin parkway) down a hill. I start to panic a little bit. Lucky for me traffic was light and through a combination of coasting and brake I manage to slow down and get to the side of the road. I check the brake fluid reservoir and it is low. I lump the truck to the next exit and stop at o'reilly auto parts. I by a quart of brake fluid and put it into the car. Brakes are back and light goes out. I start driving home and 4 miles dow. The road the low brake light fluid light comes back on. I stop off my exit to my house and buy more brake fluid from autozone. Light goes out again and I limp the truck home. Today I had it towed to team Ford dealership to have it looked at.
Master cylinder leaking into brake booster. Only warning is low brake fluid light. Known issue on 13, 14 ecoboost models. Just driving down the interstate and low brake fluid level warning came on . Pulled over and put more fluid in master cylinder. By the time we got to the end of parking lot needed fluid again. Took to Ford dealer where they said needed new master cylinder and brake booster replaced. Parts and labor over $900. This should not be a normal failure for a truck that has less than 62000 miles on it. Thankfully we did not have a more catastrophic situation.
While driving my kids to school I was stopped at a red light when the low brake fluid light came on. The traffic light turned green and as I was driving I went to apply the brakes and the pedal went completely to the floor. I had to shift the car into neutral and use the emergency brake to assist me in stopping the vehicle. I stopped 2 feet short of crashing into a vehicle in front of me. I pulled over and opened the hood. The brake fluid reservoir was almost empty. I stopped at a near by midas and was told that there was a massive leak from the master cylinder to the brake booster (booster was completely filled with brake fluid). I have seen that there is a recall for 2013-2014 f150s that are having the same issue. I can assure you that this problem is affecting the 2015s also. There was no warning other than the light coming on and I immediately lost almost complete braking power to the vehicle. This is a serious concern and a frightening one as it happens with children inside the vehicle.
Driving at 65 mph on the highway went to stop for traffic and brake pedal went to the floor. Warning light appeared and said brake fluid was low, brake light on dash board came on. Added brake fluid and within 10 miles the same thing happen again. Had to have the vechicle towed.
I own a 2015 Ford F-150 pickup 4wd 4 door since new. Has 49k miles. The brake light came on while traveling on a busy expressway I checked my brakes and had no pressure at all, the pedal went right to the floorboard I had no brakes a complete brake failure without warning! I managed to down shift and use the parking brake to stop. This is a very serious issue that need to be addressed, a complete brake system failure without warning should not happed to a well maintained 3 year old truck. Please look into this before someone gets seriously hurt or killed. At the time of brake failure we were traveling at 55 mph on a busy NY expressway during rushhour. I took the truck to a local repair shop and have been told it's a failed master cylinder, he called Ford to get a replacement part and the original replacement part is discontinued waiting on the replacement of that. I have learned that Ford has a recall for this same issue on 2013 and 2014 f150 with the 3. 5l ecoboost engine and has received complaints of same problem on the 2015,s. Why has Ford not issued a recall for the 2015 models! Tl- the contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while the vehicle was engaged in park, while depressing the brake pedal it failed to operate while going down to the ground with the brake light illuminated. The contact also mentioned that brake fluid was put inside the vehicle but still failed to operate correctly. The vehicle was taking to j. C. Lewis Ford 9505 abercorn st, savannah, GA 31406 (912) 216-2918 where the master cylinder, booster vacuum values, vaccum lines and the stop lamp switch was replaced and the brake system was flushed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure failure mileage was 54,989. Dr.
Driving at a highway speed of 65 mph, the brake fluid light appeared. I began to slow down, using the brakes to pull over,, within a few minutes I lost all brake ability when the pedal went to the floor. I was able to coast to a safe location and look at the brake fluid reservoir which was empty.
I was driving my truck and the brake pedal went to the floor and brake light warnings on dash came on. Brake fluid resivoir was empty. Checked every brake line and connection, all were totally dry with no leaks anywhere. I read online this is very common and I am not seeing any leaks because the master cylinder is leaking and filling up the booster. I am going to call the dealer on Monday but I have 50k miles so it's out of factory warranty and I do not have an active recall, seems many others are having this problem and it's a critical safety concern and the truck cannot be driven as is.
Brakes stopped working immediately after brake light came on. Filled with 1 quart of brake fluid and it disappeared into the booster. No brake fluid on ground.
Drove an hour away to attend a concert Friday night, no issue at all until it was time to leave. The truck had a low brake fluid light and the brake peddle goes straight to the floorboard. After filling with fluid I do not see a leak but there is none left in the reservoir. It seems this is a common and dangerous problem that is going to kill someone! of course my truck just went over 36,000 miles for a warranty service (less than 37,000 currently) and I may be stuck repairing a defect that could have killed me.
I was driving on the street the brake indicator low brake fluid light came on suddenly. I stepped on the brake paddle and there were no brakes. I shifted to 1st gear and coasted to side of the street. I checked reservoir and it was very low. I filled the reservoir but was empty in a few minutes but I did not see any leaks anywhere.
While driving on interstate i355 at 70 miles per hour without requiring brakes, I got a chime and then a message on the dash that my brake fluid reservoir was low, then my brake light went on. I checked the brake pedal and it went to the floor without stopping the truck. Luckily I was able to time my distance with traffic and switch lanes and exit the interstate. I managed to get the truck into a parking lot and then checked the brake fluid reservoir. The reservoir was very low, below the minimum level. I contacted a coworker who brought brake fluid to the site and we filled it and pumped the brake pedal. It seemed fine so I drove the truck again going to work. Within another mile the chime and warning came on the dash again. At that time I pulled out of traffic and parked the truck at a bank parking lot. I then called Ford roadside assistance and had the truck brought to the nearest Ford dealership for service. The dealership told me later that night that my master cylinder and my brake booster both failed and caused the issue. I checked on line and found that the NHTSA is investigating this issue on 2015 Ford f150 trucks with the v6 eco-boost engine, which is the same engine in my truck. Before the brake issue happened I drove approximately 5 miles and stopped at several red lights and intersections without any problems.
