1 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2021

As I was driving home. I noticed that my brake pressure was getting low. When I came to a complete stop my foot went to the floor of the truck. Luckily I was able to pull over. When I checked the brake master cylinder reservoir the brake fluid was completly gone. I was reading that Ford issued a recall on on the 2014-17 Ford F-150 vehicles built at kansas city assembly plant, sept. 1, 2014 to Aug. 1, 2016 which mine was. I contacted Ford motor company and they stated that the recall was on a the 3. 4 eco boost engine and and not the 2. 7 which mine has. How does engine displacement make a difference on a defective hydraulically master cylinder.

2015 Ford f150 brake failure, early June 2020. Vehicle had less than 50k miles when the brake pedal went to the floor. No accident as the failure happened overnight. Brakes seemed fine after a 660 mile trip with a trailer in tow. Parked the vehicle and the next morning the warning light came on and their was almost no brake fluid in the master cylinder resevior. I towed the vehicle to Ford auto nation in the dfw area and it required a $1400 repair. Today I learned of the recall - recall 20s31. This repair will be completed free of charge parts and labor. I had the Ford dealer do the work, I assume I am entitled to a 100% refund? any help I can get would be appreciated.

10 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2019

I have experience a brake failure during the operation of my vehicle, similar to the description within the findings for Ford 16s24 brake master cylinder replacement 2013-2014 Ford F-150 on my 2015 Ford F-150 with the same motor. I have had a non-Ford mechanic take a look and found the same condition described is what happened to my vehicle, as well as have the vehicle now being investigated by an authorized Ford mechanic. I would like to ensure that the scope of the investigation include expansion to 2015 vehicles built in the same manufacturing locations, as I believe my same situation and risk exist for mine. For reference os the situation, I have added the link to the issue write up. Https://static. Nhtsa. Gov/odi/rcl/2016/rcmn-16v345-1450. Pdf.

12 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2019

I would like to share my wife's story on what happened while driving my 2015 F-150 3. 5l ecoboost last Thursday 9/5/2019. Around 5:30pm my cell phone rings and the id shows that it is my wife calling me. I figured she was calling me to talk about her day or what I was making for dinner but she was really calling me to tell me my truck's brake and fluid light sensor came on. She was worried about driving the truck any further as she was coming down the highway. I told her that I would google to see if anyone else was having this issue and that I would call her right back. I quickly searched 2015 F-150 brake and fluid light sensor and instantly found several posts about people having this issue. After reading a couple very quickly, most people said that they lost their brakes instantly or with in minutes. I was worried so I quickly called her back and calmly asked her if she could get off the highway or pull off ASAP. I then proceeded to tell her that she might lose the brakes in the truck. I told her to call me if the vehicle became worse. At that time she was close to the exit. As she was approaching the off ramp the brake pedal pushed almost to the floor. She pressed the pedal again before getting to the yield sign and realized that she was losing the brakes. Luckily the traffic was not heavy in the oncoming traffic and allowed her to run the yield sign without having the ability to stop if needed. She got it stoped. She then called me again to tell me that the truck lost its brakes and that it was unable to be driven. At this time the brake pedal went to the floor every time she pressed it. When I arrived at her location the brake fluid was about empty. I refilled it and pressed the brakes a few times. We had it towed to a Ford dealership. Ford found that the master cylinder failed. I'm still waiting for them to get the replacement part in.

13 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2019

While driving to work yesterday morning on the freeway my "low brake fluid" warning came on. As I tried to stop after exiting the freeway, the brake pedal went all the way to the floor with what felt like was no pressure. Only after fully seating the pedal to the floor was I able to get the brakes to grab and get stopped. Luckily it was early morning and traffic was minimal. When I checked my brake fluid it was well below the minimum level mark. Using another vehicle at work, I went and bought a small bottle of fluid and put the entire thing into the reservoir, bringing up to about half way between min and max. Over the next 10 minutes we watched the level slowly drop down below the min line and beyond. I drove back to the store and bought a large bottle of fluid, having decided I was going to take the truck to the dealership. I filled the reservoir to the max line and set out at a slow speed using side streets. I hadn't went 2 miles when the "low brake fluid" light came on again. I checked the level, again down below min, and I again refilled the reservoir, using the rest of the bottle, and continued on. . . . Once again within 2 miles the light returned. I never really had brake pressure throughout this time. Never once did I find evidence of a leak. Today the dealership called and told me my master cylinder and brake booster both need replaced, and the fluid was building inside the booster, hence no puddle. My truck is only 4 years old, with less than 54,000 miles on it so it seems early in its life to have this system fail suddenly. After doing some research online, including this site, I've seen that this isn't quite as uncommon as I originally thought it would be. There seems to have been many instances of this year/make/model of truck losing its brake system around the same mileage or earlier.

15 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2019

While I was driving the low brake fluid warning came on, and seconds later the brakes felt spongy and would not return. I was able to make it to a gas station and added a bottle of brake fluid to the reservoir. This gave pressure back to the pedal, but a second later the light came back on and a loss of pressure was noticed through pedal again. The pedal needs to be on the floor to getting any stopping action. I believe that the master cylinder has a leak that is causing this safety hazard.

Added dot 4 fluid to fill line and watched it disappear. Had my truck towed to my Ford dealer and they verified brake master cylinder leaking into brake booster. 1500 dollar repair. Dealer said upgraded parts were installed but nobody wanted to discuss the failure. Could have been worse I I was headed to the mountains today.

19 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2019

Tl- the contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph the brake system failed and the brake pedal extended to the flow when pressed. After getting the vehicle to my dealer, they determined the brake cylinder had failed and the brake cylinder and brake booster needed to be replaced. I have attached the dealer invoice showing the repairs, to replace the master cylinder and brake booster, which totaled $1,068. 52.

21 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2019

This truck experienced sudden and complete brake failure on Friday 7/19/19. Luckily, this occurred in a parking lot, and the truck only hit a curb. Our truck was towed to bob davidson Ford in parkville, MD for repair. They diagnosed failure of the brake master cylinder leaking onto and damaging the brake booster. This truck has the 3. 5 liter ecoboost engine. Ford issued a recall for brake master cylinder & brake booster failures for 2013 & 2014 f150's with the same engine. Why has this failure of brake master cylinders & brake boosters not been extended to the 2015 F-150's with the same engine? this obviously seems to be a serious safety problem that should be prevented and paid for by Ford.

22 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. While driving 60 mph with the cruise control engaged, the brake pedal was depressed lightly to disengage the cruise control and the low brake fluid indicator illuminated. The contact proceeded to depress the brake pedal to slow the vehicle down and the brake pedal became stuck to the floorboard. The contact was able to coast the vehicle onto the road shoulder and engaged the emergency brake. The vehicle was towed to the contact's home. The contact inspected the vehicle himself and found that the master cylinder released the brake fluid into the brake booster. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 16v345000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 53,628.

23 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2019

I have experienced an egregious safety issue with my vehicle whereas the braking system has failed. This morning while on the interstate to bring my two kids (3 yrs old and 12 months old) to daycare, my dashboard indicated "brake fluid level low. " while I continued to drive, I assumed perhaps the brake fluid may need to be topped off for whatever reason. However, to my surprise- about a mile further I discovered that the brakes were inoperable and I immediately panicked. I took it upon myself to get to the shoulder of the highway and allow the vehicle to come to a rolling stop and inch toward the nearest exit. Fearing for the lives of myself and two children, I further inched toward the nearest parking lot (burger king) where I could have my family removed from harm's way. The brakes are totally unusable and when applying the brake pedal, the pedal goes all the way down to the floorboard. There is no pressure or resistance as the brakes would present themselves when working properly. I refuse to drive this vehicle with this issue and am now demanding safety recall. My vehicle was towed to butch oustalet Ford of gulfport, ms on 7/12/2019. My service advisor, zach kunz, advised that the braking system has indeed failed. Specifically, the seal on the master cylinder became defective and caused the brake fluid to spill into the brake booster. This was a sudden and total failure of the braking system. I was further advised that this is not covered under any warranty and that teh repair costs were upwards of $900. I am now stuck paying $900 for a prolific safety defect where Ford's failure almost caused fatality of myself and children. I am demanding that this be placed on mandatory recall, at the expense of Ford motor company. Current mileage: 90758.

24 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2019

While driving on the interstate a low break fluid warning annunciated, and once acknowledged the break system warning light remained illuminated. I immediately exited the interstate and stopped at a gas station to purchase break fluid to replenish the level. As of this time, there was no noticeable change in breaking or the feel of my break petal. After adding almost the entire pint of break fluid to bring the level to an acceptable level, I started my truck and the break system warning light was no longer illuminated. As I started to pull out of the parking spot, I noticed a slight change in the feel of the break petal. So I stopped once again and looked at the break system (master cylinder, booster, hoses, lines, etc) but did not identify any damage or signs of leakage. I re-entered the truck and drove around the parking lot for a minute or two and within this time the feel of the break petal returned to near normal feel. It was at this time I re-entered the interstate and within less than one mile of travel the low break fluid warning annunciated once again, however upon pressing the break petal to exit, the break petal went to the floorboard with little to no breaking results. I responded by using the emergency/parking break to assist with controlling the truck until I could reach a safe location to park the truck.

25 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2019

After leaving the gym one morning, I went to the parking lot and started my truck. Instantly a low brake fluid warning light shows up, which I thought was weird because my brakes felt completely normal driving to the gym. I tested the brakes and immediately pushed the pedal to the floorboard without resistance. I went outside and noticed no leaks anywhere along the brake system. Popped the hood and the brake fluid reservoir was completely empty, but no leaks. Hopped back in and tested the brakes while driving in the parking lot. I had about 5% braking power, at best. Started reading online and found hundreds of complaints about people's brakes going out in the same fashion. Instant failure. Luckily mine was very early in the morning while parked in an empty parking lot. Others had it happen while driving on a freeway, towing a trailer, much more dangerous situations. All had the same issue - failed seal at the master cylinder, allowing the vacuum in the booster to instantly suck all the brake fluid out. I had the truck towed to the dealership and sure enough, failed master cylinder and ruined booster. $1000 to fix. I read elsewhere that Ford changed oem manufacturers for the master cylinder at some point, which the dealership confirmed. Also, this issue is under official investigation #rq16001, but has yet to be an official recall. Considering recalls were issued for 2013 and 2014 models for the same reason, and the over 600 complaints I've found for the same reasons for 2015, I find it unacceptable this hasn't been officially recalled yet. This could have been an incredibly dangerous situation.

26 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2019

Brake failure, brake fluid loss into master cylinder resulting in brake pedal going all the way to floor, no braking power. Truck was in motion in a mountain region which could have been very serious.

27 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2019

Driving to work and the low brake fluid warning light came on and the brake pedal felt soft. About 1/2 mile later, I tried the brakes again and the pedal went all the way to the floor with almost zer0 stopping power. Coasted to a stop and no brake fluid in the resevoir. No sign of leakage anywhere. Five minutes on google and I discover Ford recalled 271,000 2013 and 2014 f150's due to defective brake master cylinder. When the master cylinder fails, all the brake fluid gets sucked into the brake booster, totally disabling the braking system. I was very lucky to get the vehicle out of traffic and stopped with out incident. Based on the aforementioned, you would think Ford would certainly repair this defective master cylinder and ruined brake booster on my 2015 f150 with only 49,500 miles. Spoke to dealership and Ford customer service and the answer was no, your 2015 f150 is not covered by the recall.

28 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2019

Upon braking when entering the florida I-275 on ramp, my brake pedal went all the way to the floor accompanied by a "low brake fluid" dash warning. My braking capacity was severely affected and emergency braking would not have been an option. I was able to exit immediately and pull over to investigate. My brake reservoir was nearly empty and no sign of leaks beneath the vehicle. I drove very slowly (stupid idea) to my Ford dealership and explained my issue. Due to me extended warranty, I was able to rent a vehicle and leave mine. Tech called next day and informed me brake master cylinder was defective as well as the brake booster. He informed me it "is covered under warranty". I have news for them. The hundred dollar CO pay is going to be an "issue". . . My truck is the 6cyl. 3. 6 liter eco boost twin turbo. Very discouraged Ford is not recalling this issue and pray someone is not seriously hurt or killed as a result of their irresponsibility.

29 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2019

After entering the highway and maintaining a speed of approximately 65 mph, the brake pedal suddenly lost function and was able to be pushed all the way back with no effectiveness. No alarms or safety chimes alerted the failure. This was frightening due to our whole family being present and the speed of which we were traveling at the point of failure. We were able to safely coast onto the shoulder and be towed to the nearest dealership. The mechanics could not recreate the failure and replaced the master cylinder in hopes that this will correct the problem. I am still unsure if the vehicle has had the issue corrected permanently.

30 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2019

On morning of 5/25/19, I was traveling in kentucky about 180 miles from home, when I received a low brake fluid message. The brake fluid tank was about 1/2 full. I was in town and went ahead and picked up a bottle of recommended fluid and added a bit more, and error light went out. Brake pressure seemed good at that time. A few miles down the road I lost all brake pressure. The pedal went to the floor, no brake at all. I was on a two lane road and let the truck coast until I could pull it off the side of highway. I checked the brake fluid level again and tank was totally empty. I called a tow truck and had it towed to closest Ford dealership. I had to catch a ride to pick up a rental to drive home. Dealership found master cylinder leaking into brake booster. They replaced both brake master cylinder and booster. They checked for recalls on this issue but this year and model truck is not included in any recalls. We picked up the repaired truck on 5/31. We were about two miles down the road after picking up, and the check engine light came on. We turned around and took truck back to dealership. They checked error code and turned off message. We were about 80 miles down road when check engine light came on again. We drove about 100 miles to home and called our local Ford dealership. They found take fluid was clogging the vac supply and the manifold intake. They had to remove the manifold intake to clean all the brake fluid out of the vaccine hoses. Final repair was on June 7. Both repairs totaled $1337. 15, and a car rental and an extra night's hotel stay. All the financial charges seem minor compared to the scare we had on a narrow two lane highway with no brakes. We feel blessed we were able to safely pull car off the road. This model truck should be included in Fords brake recall before someone has a major accident.

31 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2019

While driving I received a warning light that my brake fluid was low. Went to stop and the pedal went to the floor. I added brake fluid and the same thing happened again, plus it started to push white smoke out of the tail pipes from the brake fluid entering the engine through the vacuum system from the power booster. There is definitely something wrong with the master cylinders in these vehicles and hope you are able to conclude your investigation into this issue and get a recall in process so that I may be reimbursed for the repair.
