36 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 09/16/2018

On Wednesday I had the oil changed at the dealership. After returning home I checked all fluid levels, including brake fluid. All okay. Four days later when I got in the truck and started the engine. I got a warning light about the brakes. Upon inspection the master cylinder was empty. I could not find any sign of a leak any where. I assume the master cylinder is leaking out the back into the booster. There was no sign of gradual loss of braking performance. The truck will be brought to the dealership tomorrow.

37 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2018

A "low brake fluid" warning appeared in the center of the instrument cluster. Shortly thereafter, the brake pedal went all the way to the floor when I needed to slow down to turn at an intersection. The resolution was to replace the master cylinder and the brake booster. This is a known issue by Ford, yet there has been no recall for the 2015 F-150 trucks with this problem.

38 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2018

My wife started driving the vehicle and a short time later a "brake fluid low" warning came on. She applied the brakes and the brake pedal went to the floor and braking action was severely compromised. In order to get the vehicle off the road to a safe place, she had to continue to drive the vehicle a short distance, in order to bring the vehicle to a stop once in a parking lot she had to put the truck in tow haul mode (engine braking) and use the emergency/parking brake. We had the vehicle towed to a local service shop. They diagnosed the issue as a master cylinder leak into the booster. We then had the vehicle towed to dch Ford of thousand oaks and they diagnosed the issue the same and said the master cylinder and booster need to be replaced. Vehicle has less the 50k miles and is the v6 with ecoboost. 2013 and 2014 models are apparently under active recall for same issue. 2015 (our year) is under recall query/investigation # rq16001.

39 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2018

While driving my 2015 Ford F-150 ecoboost at 45 mph on a city street I had a low break fluid warning light come on. I stopped at a stop light and all seemed fine. I proceeded 2 blocks to find somewhere safe to check the brake fluid level. When I tried to stop at the next stop light I had no brakes at all!!! I went through the red light intersection with my foot to the floor on the brakes. With luck, I did not hit another vehicle. I coasted slow enough to use my parking brake (e-brake) to make a full stop. I open the hood and noticed that the brake fluid reservoir was almost completely empty. After carefully examining all of the brake lines ,fittings, calipers, master cylinder and the engine compartment no brake fluid was found leaking anywhere. I had the 2015 Ford F-150 ecoboost towed to a dealership. Also about a week ago during a long road trip I noticed a lot of wind noise coming from the drivers door. I was on an interstate going about 75 mph. I got off of the interstate and re-closed my door thinking I did not shut it hard enough. About 5 miles down the interstate driving about 75 mph I went over an approach (or a bump) to a bridge and the door dropped out of it's closed position and I could stick 4 fingers out between the door and door frame. I pull over at a safe area to exam the door and frame. I noticed that the door bolts (top and bottom) that hold the door hinge to the door had come loose and backed out about 4 turns. I tightened them and finished my trip. I notified the dealership so they can see why that had happened.

40 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2018

Tl- the contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph the brakes failed and the brake pedal extended to the floor when attempting to stop the vehicle. The message "brake fluid low" later displayed. Upon inspection it was discovered that the brake fluid reservoir was empty. After refilling the brake fluid reservoir with brake fluid the brakes continued to malfunction. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed the master cylinder and brake booster were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired and the failure was remedied. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 58,000. Jft.

41 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2018

On July 21, 2018 while driving home from lake ray roberts at 10:30 pm a low fluid level warning appeared on the console of my 2015 F-150 truck. The warning was shortly followed with total brake system failure. After further inspection the fluid from the brake master cylinder had drained into the brake booster. This resulted in total loss of hydraulic brakes and a requirement to use the emergency brake to stop the vehicle.

42 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2018

Brake failure at 54,000 miles with no warning. Master cylinder failed allowing the brake fluid to by pass the seals and leaked into the power booster. I was trveling down the road at 55 mph and the brake pedal went directly to the floor with no warning at a intersection. Ford had a recall in 2014 for the same situation but nothing has been done about the 2015 model. Several people has complained on this issue.

43 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2018

Tl- the contact owns a 2015 Ford f150. The contact stated that while being operated 55mph the brake pedal was depressed however the vehicle did not register it was pressed. The contact also stated the brakes went to floor. The contact was able to safely stop the vehicle by letting it coast to a stop. The brake fluid low warning indicator illuminated. The contact stated the brakes. The vehicle was towed to I-77 Ford located 3315 charleston rd, ripley, wv where it was sealant failed in the booster cylinder and both the master cylinder and booster cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000. Kh.

44 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2018

On the morning of July 6, 2018, while driving from swan valley, id to idaho falls, id I experienced complete brake failure. The warning light indicated low brake failure. I thought that I needed to add brake fluid and had no idea that I did not have any brakes. When I tried to slow down, the brake petal went to the floorboard. I was shocked at that time. I put the gear shift into m and downshifted from about 60 mph to a safer speed. I had to drive 30 miles to the nearest dealership for diagnosis and repair. I had to use the emergency brake at least 5 or 6 times to slow the vehicle to a stop. Most of the 30 miles was on a two lane us highway 26. In order to deal with less stop and go situations, I drove on highway 49 to us 20 to complete by drive to broadway Ford on broadway in idaho falls. I was able to carefully drive to the dealership and they said they know of similar failures and it involved the master cylinder and a booster. The representative said that their was a recall on the 2013 and 2014 models, but not on the 2015 as of yet. From a personal note if my wife had been driving the truck I am confident their would have been an accident.

45 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2018

Tl-the contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, the low brake fluid warning light illuminated and the brakes became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the rear seal on the brake master cylinder disintegrated which caused the brake failure. The vehicle was repaired. Neither the dealer nor manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 76,000. Ah.

46 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2018

On June 15, 2018 I had a tone alert and message on the dash of my 2015 f150 appear while the truck was in motion indicating a "low brake fluid" warning. I applied the brake pedal and it appeared to be normal. I traveled a short distance to a parking lot and stopped. I returned after 20 minutes and when I stepped on the brake to start the truck the brake pedal went all the way to the firewall. I raised the hood and saw about 1/8 inch of fluid in the reservoir. I called aaa having the vehicle towed to tri-lakes Ford in branson missouri. The diagnosis was master cylinder and brake booster failure.

47 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2018

While driving my truck on the highway at 65 mph, I entered the off ramp and applied pressure on my brake pedal. My brakes failed and the brake pedal went to the floor. I quickly applied my parking brake, locking up the rear wheels. With no load in the bed of the truck, I slid for what seemed to be hundreds of feet before coming to a stop. Fortunately, there was no one in front of me during the skid. I took it to a tire repair vendor close by, and they diagnosed it as a master cylinder failure that also ruined the brake booster. I called Ford customer service, and opened a case for my vehicle. I have read that the 2013 and 2014 models of the f150 with the 3. 5l engine were recalled for this problem, but that 2015 models such as mine have not been included as of this date.

48 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2018

I lost all break function while traveling 40 mph and had to use my e-brake to come to a stop. Ford and my local Ford dealership admit that the issue was a defective brake fluid master cylinder.

49 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2018

Warning light about low brake fluid followed by total loss of pressure in the pedal. Technician diagnosed a faulty master cylinder. Vehicle was in motion as I was driving my 7mo daughter to day care. Lost full pedal as I was turning in the parking lot.

50 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2018

Driving down the highway a brake fluid low message came up on my computer screen. I immediately tested my brakes and they still worked so I planned on pulling into the next service station to check the fluid level and possibly purchase more fluid. Upon having to slow down a little further down the road I pressed on the brake and the pedal went to the floor. I immediately started to depress the emergency brake and throttle it until I was safely off the road and could put the vehicle in park. I was towed back to my service station where my mechanic looked at the problem. My mechanic told me the master cylinder had failed and leaked into the brake booster. My mechanic replaced the master cylinder. I do have an extended warranty with Ford and after starting the process to get the work covered under warranty I have been receiving the run around. I will be trying a different dealership today.

51 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2018

When engaging the brakes, pedal goes all the way to the floor. Checked brake fluid resivouir and it was almost empty. Refilled resivouir and still same issue. Read online about breaks and seems to be the exact same issue with the 2013 and 2104 3. 5 ecoboost models. Currently a recall on those models for brake master cylinder replacement. This is an obvious known issue, but 2015-2016 models don't have a current recall yet. Please assist with recall for 2015-2016 mod LS.

52 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2018

I had a warning on the dash display that the brake fluid was low. I figured I'd check it out after I got home which was only 6 miles away. I continued to get on the freeway (303 in az) my brakes seemed normal. When I started to exit the highway I needed to brake to merge with traffic and the pedal went all the way to the floor with no brakes engaging. I tried to pump them and got minimal brake pressure in my panic. I swerved to the shoulder going around 60 mph to miss traffic in front of me. I slowed and stopped at the light and very slowly with very little braking made it home. Took it to firestone and had them look at it. Master cylinder failed is what they were able to find for a cause. Replaced it and works as it should now. If this is a known issue with F-150s it should be addressed. From what I've read online, it is. My truck only has 44k miles and shouldn't need a master cylinder replaced. The wrong person behind the wheel having this happen could of led to a very serious collision. I'm grateful it didn't with me.

53 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2018

Started 2015 Ford f150 in my driveway morning of 3-30-2018 and brake warning came on stating fluid was low. Also brake indicator was on. Tested the brakes and they functioned properly. Entered the freeway and was traveling at 65 mph when I had to apply brakes due to fast slowing traffic. Brakes failed as pedal went to the floor. Had to swerve to miss vehicle in front of me. Pumped brakes again and got minimal braking as pedal again went to the floor. Downshifted the transmission and used emergency brake to stop the vehicle. Proceeded very carefully to Ford dealer that was less than a mile from my location. They diagnosed the vehicle with a master cylinder and booster failure. Cost $1,000. 00. Vehicle has 50k miles on it and is meticulously maintained. Ford dealer offered no explanation.

54 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2017

I was driving down the interstate when the low brake fluid level alert came on. I tested the brakes and they felt soft. I pulled over and checked the brake fluid level. It was low. I added fluid. The light went off and the brake pressure returned. The truck drove normally for about ten minutes. At that time the low fluid level alert returned and I lost braking. I had the truck towed to an authorized Ford service center. They stated that the master cylinder had failed and bled into the brake booster.

55 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2017

Issue: while driving the vehicle around 40mph, the "low break fluid" warning flashed on the dashboard and I instantly lost the breaks. The break fluid tank was empty and there was no apparent linkage. Ford dealership confirmed that the break booster master cylinder failed.

56 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2017

I experienced a total brake failure on my 2015 Ford f150. Without warning my brake pedal went to the floor followed by a warning on the dash that said brake fluid level low. It was extremely lucky that I was very close to my home and traveling at a very slow speed in my neighborhood or this probably would have resulted in severe injury or death. I checked the brake fluid and it was low in the reservoir. I tried adding brake fluid, but the pedal again went to the floor after one or two pumps of the brake and the warning came on again. There was no visible signs of a leak on my driveway. The truck has only 40788. 8 miles on it and has been well maintained and has had an easy life. I contacted the Ford dealer in georgetown, texas for help. They had me contact Ford customer care to see if they would tow it in. The vehicle was picked up from my house and taken to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed the problem and found that the brake booster and master cylinder had failed and needed to be replaced. The Ford dealer reached out to Ford and suggested I do the same since they have seen the same problem on other Ford f150s. I contacted Ford and a case was opened cas-13072940-b9v3q2. The dealer informed me on September 25th that Ford closed the case since there was no outstanding field service action on the parts. I request that the NHTSA work with Ford to immediately issue a recall for the 2015 f150s. I find it unacceptable that Ford has already had a recall on 2013-2014 f150's for what is described as the same problem with the v6 engine combination as what we experienced on our 2015 Ford f150. I have also seen articles such as the article in autoweek on October 5, 2016 that the 2015-2016's have had reports of the same failure. This is not a normal wear item and gives no warning of a pending failure.

57 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2017

Driving 65 mph on hwy 183 in traffic, the "low brake fluid" indicator came on. I pressed on the brake pedal and the pedal went straight to the floor board. No brakes! I pumped the pedal several times and the straight to floor board and no brakes!. . . The traffic in front of me began to slow and brake. I was able to keep my composure and use the emergency brake pedal to slow down to avoid a collision and was able to get off to the side of the road. I had my wife and daughter in the truck and this could have ended horribly. I took it to the closest dealer I could find. The brake reservoir was completely dry and no external leaks. The master cylinder failed and leaked off into the booster.

58 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2017

Driving vehicle. Stopped at stop sign. Noticed brake warning lamp on. Within 3 stops pedal went to floor. Checked reservoir and found fluid was completely empty. Checked vehicle for leaks. Found no external leaks. After towed home, removed master cylinder. Found brake booster full of brake fluid.

59 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2017

I was driving south on I-75 just north of cincinnati, OH at approximately 65 mph when a message came on dash and said something like "low of brake fluid". I tested my brakes and the brake pedal went to the floor. Traffic had simultaneously begun to slow so I down shifted the transmission, swerved from the slow lane to the shoulder and applied the emergency brake. I was able to get the truck to a complete stop. I lifted the hood and found no brake fluid. I called and waited for a tow truck. After two hours, since I had only driven 2 miles from my house I asked my son to bring me a quart of brake fluid and check the driveway to see if there was a spot on the concrete. There was no spot on concrete, I added an entire quart of fluid but still had no brakes. Had truck brought to kerry Ford and repaired where they advised the brake master cylinder failed. Although the vehicle was only 18 mos old, the warranty was only 36,000 miles which I had passed. I bought the vehicle brand new. I paid for the repair but could not get the master cylinder from the dealer as I was told Ford required the old one for a core.

60 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2017

Brake master cylinder failed, pedal went to floor with no warning and almost crashed. Topped off brake fluid, and still no brakes. Pulled cap off vacuum booster and booster was full of brake fluid. Now truck is smoking badly I believe from brake fluid being sucked into vacuum hose. Only 30,000miles on truck 2015 f150 with 3. 5l.

61 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2017

I parked my vehicle at camping world. There was no indication that there was any problem with the brakes. I came out about one half hour later and got into my vehicle. I started the engine, put my foot on the brake pedal, put the gearshift in reverse and when I release the parking brake a warning came up on the dash that said "low brake fluid". The vehicle had just started moving in reverse. I stepped down on the service brake pedal in it went all the way to the floor, there was no braking action at all. I hade to use the parking brake to stop. This failure happened with no warning and was a total service brake failure. I found no leaks at the wheels or anywhere under the vehicle. My next stop was to pickup my 26 foot travel trailer to get ready for vacation. Ford emergency service had my vehicle towed to ron dupratt Ford in dixon California for warranty repairs. I believe the problem involves the master cylinder/brake booster.

62 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2017

With the vehicle stopped, the brake pedal slowly fades to the floor when applying a firm steady pressure. At this time, there is no apparent loss of holding power once the pedal has faded. With normal driving the brakes work and the vehicle does stop. When the pedal has faded to the floor it can be brought back up by pumping the pedal. Testing has not been done to determine the amount of holding power that remains or to validate what would happen in a hard-braking scenario. The problem was first noticed on 3/17/2017 and is completely repeatable every time it is checked. The dealer has agreed with these observations but has stated that Ford will not back a replacement of the master cylinder because it is working.

63 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2016

The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving the vehicle at 70 mph and coming to a stop, the brake pedal would push all the way to the floorboard. Upon pumping the brake pedal, the braking action would return to normal and stopped the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake master cylinder needed to be replaced and was repaired. After about 800 miles the failure re-occurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 13,500.

64 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2016

The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. While driving approximately 70 mph and upon slowing down to exit the highway, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard. The contact managed to pull over to the side of the road and drove slowly to the dealer. It was diagnosed that the master cylinder caused the brake failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the master cylinder was sent to the manufacturer for analysis. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 9,600.

65 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2016

Brake pedal dropped to floor and significantly lost ability to stop. Mechanic says needs to replace brake master cylinder and brake booster. Parts are on backorder which indicates there is a problem - parts department said there are 700 on backorder and it will take over a month to get them.

66 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2016

I was on my way to work one morning when I noticed my break pedal seems to be going lower than normal. After driving a little more it seemed to be ok. As I got about half way across houston, I was coming t a red light and when I hit my breaks they went completely to the floor and I went through a red light. Luckily it was so early that there was not much traffic. I called roadside to row my truck to the Ford dealer to find that this seems to be an ongoing issue with trucks around this year model, and the master cylinder is on recall until (hopefully) Aug, 22. That's is a full month without my truck. There has currently been no recalls on these models, but if there is not one soon, someone is going t get seriously injured or even killed with this default. ( I only have 5600 miles on this truck by the way).

67 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2016

Complete brake failure. Brake fluid low level light illuminated while driving a very busy road and within 2 minutes the master cylinder had depleted all fluid and brake pedal was going all the way to floor board. Luckily the wife was able to get the truck into a parking lot unscathed. Truck has been at dealer for a week due to master cylinder being on backorder. Apparently the issue affecting 2013-2014 F-150s is also affecting 2015s as well. Truck has approx. 15k miles.

68 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2016

Brakes went out while driving. Pedal went completely to the floor. A warning light came on indicating low fluid. I took the truck to a local garage and they determined that the master cylinder had failed and also brake fluid had looked into the booster. The brake fluid reservoir was completely empty. The vehicle had been parked for a few days. We drove the vehicle 5 miles without issue. Vehicle was towed to nearest Ford dealer nearly 40 miles away. That Ford dealer has failed to begin repairs, claiming they are busy and consequently it will take 4 or more days to repair. We are 12 hours from home and stranded by this new pickup. This is precisely the same issue as raised in the complaint with NHTSA id number 10873438.

69 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2015

As I pulled out of my driveway and came to first stop the brake pedal went to the floor. Took it to dealer and the master cylinder was bad.
