36 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2023

1/26/2023 front left brake line failed resulting in minimal stopping ability and loss of brake fluid. Right side brake line was inspected and replaced with a bulge in the line. Greatly reduced ability to stop, used extreme caution to immediately drive to repair service shop. Photos provided by the service shop that made the repair. They replaced both front brake lines and refiled the brake fluid and bleed the brake lines. No inspection by manufacture, police, or insurance. Failure did not result in accident but certainly compromised safety due to reduced stopping ability. No symptoms leading up to the time of failure. Upon the brake line failure, the brake indicator light came on and warning of low brake fluid. Truck is currently being repaired at time of reporting so the final invoice is not availble yet.

37 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2022

Vehicle was parked, pressed brake pedal to start it and pedal went to floor. Found right front flex brake hose failed. Brake fluid spraying out just below the top fitting. Brake fluid low indicator came on while troubleshooting problem. Oem part not available from dealership replaced part with non-oem part.

38 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2022

The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that as he was stopping the vehicle in front of his garage and slowing to approximately 3 mph the vehicle was not stopping. The contact stated that the brake pedal went to the floor board when he depressed the brake pedal. The vehicle crashed into the garage door causing the garage door to buckle. There was minor damage to the vehicle front end. There were no injuries. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the brake master cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 22v150000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The failure mileage was approximately 83,000.

39 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2022

The brake fluid reservoir cap cracked for reasons unknown allowing debris and contaminants to enter my braking system. I noticed this while checking the engine air filter. I went to the dealership to purchase a new cap and the parts salesman inform me that this is a very common issue. . . I'm concerned that issues my arise in the future relating to this problem.

40 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2022

The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed, however, the vehicle failed to respond as needed. The low brake fluid and service brake warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake master cylinder leaked into the brake booster and the brake master cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the part was defective. The contact stated that he was waiting on parts to complete the repair. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 20v332000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was aided with the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 101,000.

41 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2022

I had brake line rupture behind front right wheel and it caused immediate brake failure due to loss of fluid rapidly. There was no indication prior to this failure. My front brake lines had to be removed and replaced to correct problem. I had recently had my brake pads and rotors replaced at 104,000 mile this past June. My dealer had done at this time a full inspection of braking system in June. Yesterday, my brake pedal went all the way to the floor and I had to use emergency brake to stop.

42 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2022

The front left brake line ruptured unexpectedly (no warning lamps leading up to the incident, no reduction in braking leading up to the issue; just sudden, unexpected loss of braking ability). Fortunately, this occurred while backing out of a parking spot; had this failure occurred moments earlier while driving on the highway, this could have been a much more dangerous situation. Following failure of the brake line, vehicle was towed to local dealership, who confirmed it was the brake line that failed "due to normal wear and tear", and that the master cylinder and other components were in good condition. The line was described by the mechanic to be "dried out and cracked from age" leading to a rupture. This vehicle was manufactured in 2016 with ~82,000 miles and has undergone routine maintenance as prescribed; so "normal wear and tear" does not seem so normal to me.

43 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2022

The master cylinder. About August of 2021 I noticed that when I tried to brake, the pedal would lose pressure and I would start rolling until I applied more pressure. Eventually it got to the point where the pedal would go to the floor. I replaced the master cylinder and everything worked perfectly until again August of 2022. This time I had to warning of gradually losing pressure in the brake pedal. I was coming onto a feeder road off the highway and tried to slow down but noticed there was no pressure on the brake pedal. Thankfully in both cases no accidents occurred but not having brakes work properly is incredibly dangerous. I replaced the master cylinder again and it is working fine for now. I noticed the 3. 5l has the recall but my truck is 2. 7l but I'm having the exact same issue.

44 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2022

The brake pedal loses pressure when applied . If applied for an extended period ( stopping at a red light ) the pedal will reach the floor . This can cause a serious accident . There have been 2 recalls addressing this problem but my vehicle was not listed in the either recall ( 20s31 & 22s11 ). My vehicle was built in kansas in July 2016. Recall # 20s31 was issued for vehicles built Aug. 1st. 2013 thru Aug. 31 2014. Recall 22s11 was issued for vehicles built Aug. 2 2016 thru Jan. 31 2017. There seems to be an on-going problem for this time period .

45 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2022

The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, the brake pedal went to the floorboard while depressed. The vehicle failed to stop immediately rear-ending another vehicle. No air bags deployed. The contact sustained injuries to his neck and back but did not receive medical attention. A police report was filed. Additionally, the contact stated the vehicle consumed an excessive amount of oil and the key fob failed to function as needed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by a dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

46 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2022

The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 22v150000 (service brakes, hydraulic) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer informed the contact that the recall repair could be completed in six months. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

47 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2022

The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 10 mph, the brake warning light and low brake fluid warning light illuminated. The contact stated that he pumped the brake pedal aggressively several times and the brake pedal travelled to the floor before the vehicle stopped. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the brake fluid was leaking into the brake booster. The mechanic stated that the failure was similar to NHTSA campaign number: 22v150000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were both contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was 87,000.

48 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2022

Downshifting while I was driving happened without warning. Besides the gear switch, I noticed problems with the speedometer, erratic gear shifting, and the transmission stuck in one gear. I could have caused a major accident by the vehicle as I was at moderately high speed in motion when the vehicle began to fail. I did also bang my head on the steering wheel when the truck began to decelerate on its own! mechanics told me it was a problem with the oos (output speed shaft sensor). I could have got in a major accident had I not had a quick reaction to the truck automatically downshifting while at a high rate of speed. There is currently no recalls for the 2016 F-150 model however, I did research and found that there are issues recalls for this very same problem for older F-150 models. This is an incredibly dangerous problem. My truck at this time only has 66,000 miles. Not very many miles on it for a 2016 to have this type of issue. Major research needed to get this resolved ASAP! people’s lives are at stake with this truck!.

49 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2022

Brake fluid leak. Brakes quit working immediately while on freeway causing us to zig zag to avoid crashing with other vehicles!.

50 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2022

The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at approximately 30 mph and coming to a traffic sign, the contact depressed the brake pedal and felt the brake pedal go the floorboard. The contact stated that the vehicle lost braking functionality. The contact engaged the parking brake and the vehicle came to a stop. The contact stated that he placed the vehicle in neutral and observed that the "check brake" and "low brake fluid" warning lights were illuminated. The contact drove the vehicle back to his residence. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a dealer or independent mechanic to have the vehicle diagnosed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 22v150000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

51 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2022

Brake pedal is hard to push down and doesn't work. Pedal is stuck high then slams to the ground with no warning. On several occasions I have almost rear ended the vehicle in front of me. This is a safety issue for myself, my children, and other drivers. This has happened numerous times. Ford has a recall for this same reason on other years and models of the Ford F-150. They need to include the 2016 in the recall as well. There is an internal brake fluid leak. I have taken to local dealer and they tell me there is no problem. When the brakes fail there is no warning, no lights, no chimes, nothing.

52 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2022

Revision of 11448462 filed on 1/23/22 my wife and I were driving to our house in our 2016 Ford f150 and were approaching the final turn into our subdivision. When approaching our road to turn, I turned my directional signals on to show that I was turning left and was slowing down. Also, there was a line of cars behind me. I immediately saw that my turn signals were not working, and were not aware that I was turning left, and continued going straight to ensure that the cars behind me did not ram me in the rear. As soon as I could, I pulled the truck off the right side of the road into a small drainage ditch. No damage to the truck at that time. Electrical components failed; my safety and my wife's safety were put at risk. This problem with the turn signals has been noted by woody anderson Ford, huntsville al. My truck, after we arrived home, sat in our driveway for approximately a week while I went through my Ford user manual and several repair manuals looking for the problem. I did not find any reference to that specific problem. However, during that week, while sitting in the driveway, the truck continued to develop more problems, specifically the engine developed problems that would not allow it to run, and the transmission locked- preventing the wheels to roll. The truck is now at woody anderson Ford, huntsville, ala. . As of this last Friday, at $ 100 an hour for diagagonise. They have told me that the truck is probably unfixable. These two faults, if they had happed to the truck while we had been driving, would probably have killed all occupants of the truck, and anyone that we might have hit would be in the same condition. Please look at your records and the number of the same year and equipped trucks are on the road and are a safety risk.

53 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2021

On 12/20/21, while driving home on state route 7 from work, the low brake fluid warning appeared. I tried the brakes and as I tried to slow down, the pedal went all the way down. I almost went off the road but after pumping it was able to slow a bit. I was merging onto interstate 8 west and slowly drove to figure out where to get off. The best off ramp was imperial since it was uphill and managed to pull over after getting off and stopping the truck. Replaced the lost liquid and my brother in law followed me to his home. Same issue with brakes and slowly took it to his home. Took the vehicle to Ford dealer assuming that a recall on f150 due to master cylinder failure and leaking fluid onto the booster, which occurred to my vehicle that it would be covered in good faith by Ford. My VIN was not listed although the issue was similar to the recall. After calling the NHTSA and Ford, there was nothing else that I could do at that time but pay the service. My complaint is that I almost had an accident due to an issue that Ford had recalled various trucks and did not include my truck. The least that Ford can do is in good faith and that it was not an accident due to this failure, that repayment is made on the cost to repair master cylinder and booster.

54 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2021

The break pedal became unresponsive and would have to be pressed alot more that usual to stop the car and the stopping distance was much much longer. Then I noticed that every time I press the brakes oil shoots out from the front driver side. When I searched online I noticed that there is a similar recall for the exact same issue and same model year Ford F-150, however my VIN number is not included in the recall.

55 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2021

The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 65 mph, the low brake fluid warning light illuminated. The contact stated he was depressing the brake pedal to the floor but failed to stop the vehicle. The contact stated he had to shift gears to neutral and use the parking brake to stop the vehicle. The contact was able to continue driving the vehicle off the highway while experiencing the failure. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the master cylinder and power brake booster to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 20v332000 (service brakes, hydraulic) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 81,387.

56 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2021

The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact was driving approximately 50 mph, when the brake warning light illuminated. The contact was able to pull over and inspect the brake reservoir and noticed that it was empty. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 20v332000 (service brakes, hydraulic) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 63,643.

57 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2021

This is a 2016 ecoboost 3. 5 f150 built in kansas city plant. The brake booster leaked and I lost brakes. This is a current recall but my VIN is not included. How can my truck, the same model and powertrain as those recalled, in the same time period, built in the same plant, with the exact same issue not be part of the recall? I nearly crashed. . . The mechanic at the Ford dealer knew exactly what it was - how - well clearly its a bigger issue than what has bene recalled!!!!.

58 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2021

The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle and depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal extended to the floor. Upon inspection, it was discovered that there was no brake fluid in the brake fluid reservoir. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the brake booster and brake master cylinder were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the NHTSA campaign number 20v332000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 81,000.

59 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2021

Hi, I have a 2016 Ford f150 with the 3. 5 ecoboost motor. The truck has roughly 80k miles on it currently. I replaced the front brake rotors and pads on the truck a few weeks ago. After the repair I had full brake ability and no issues what so ever. This weekend I was driving the truck when I received an audible alarm and on the heads up screen by the speedometer that said the brake fluid was low. I also had the red "brake" indicator on the dash. When this occurred I did loose what I would say was 80% of my braking ability. Luckily I was only a few blocks from home so I was able to get home. When home I took all 4 wheels off my truck looking for leaks and everything was dry. The brake fluid reservoir was in fact low so I put 12 oz. Of fluid back in it and went to drive around the block to see if things were better. I made it about 3 blocks before I received again that brake fluid low warning again and then lost braking ability. I then called my wife and took the truck to a local brake shop about a mile away. After some research over night I ran across 20v-332 and wondered if my truck was part of this recall. I called Ford this morning and the confirmed it is. They have ordered a master brake cylinder and I am now waiting for they to correct the issue. I will be without me truck at a minimum of a week because of this issue.

60 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2021

The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while her husband was driving 25 mph up a hill, the brake warning light was illuminated, and he was depressing the brake pedal to the floor but failed to stop the vehicle. The driver was able to cruise to the side of the road. The driver stated while checking under the hood, he noticed there was no brake fluid but did not see any leaks. The driver was able to add brake fluid and continue driving to his destination. The driver took the vehicle to local dealer and was informed that no brake fluid leaks were found. The driver stated on August 7, 2021, he experienced the failure for a second time. The contact took the vehicle to another local dealer at ray skillman Ford (1250 us-31, greenwood, in 46143: (317) 885-9800), where it was diagnosed with needing the brake master cylinder and brake booster to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired but was pending repairs. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 20v332000 (service brakes, hydraulic) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 78,972.

61 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2021

Low brake fluid level. Little to no stopping abilities.

62 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2021

Out of no where & no indication anything was wrong, my son was driving home & lost all brakes. Out of the 300,000 recalled for this reason our VIN# wasn't on the list. So we had to pay the $1117 . Ford did not seem to care when we reported it to their main office in michigan. This could have caused a serious wreck or even a death!.

63 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2021

The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while operating the vehicle and depressing the brake pedal, the pedal extended to the floor and the vehicle did not immediately stop. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the brake fluid was very low. After refilling the brake fluid reservoir, the vehicle immediately experienced the same failure. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the brake fluid had leaked into the brake master cylinder, and the brake booster and master cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, and the failure was remedied. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 20v332000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The contact indicated that the vehicle experienced the failure listed in the recall. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.

64 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2021

The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving approximately 10 mph and depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 59,000.

66 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2021

Leaking brake booster line at 50,000 + miles I have to pay for out of pocket. Also throttle body replacement. Vehicle would lose power then throw a code p2112. Both bad safety issues.

67 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2021

Low brake fluid light came on while driving. Shortly thereafter (minutes) the brakes got very bad and unsafe. Basically the resistance left and the pedal went to the floor. It slowly stopped via brakes but very poorly. You couldn't make a quick stop if needed. Checked fluid it was empty. Added fluid. Drove to dealership, brakes were slightly better but sure enough 5 minutes into drive the low fluid light came on. I suspect it is emtpy again (I dropped at dealership and told them to check). Brakes starting working worse again, just like before (keep in mind they were'nt normal again even with the fluid, just a bit more resistance when I pumped the pedal). After the light came on, all resistances was gone again. Doing some research and talking to the dealership this sounds exactly like NHTSA campaing # 20v-332, however, my vehicle isn't covered because the cutoff for that is currently Aug 1 2016, while my truck was apparently built the following month in September. Dealer thinks it is the same issue. I called Ford and they are taking a wait and see attitude, but it sure seems fishy that the exact recall problem appears to suddenly pop up in a vehicle that fits all the descriptions except a month later. . . The guy I talked to said they used dealership reports to determine affected dates, so who knows. Car is at dealership getting fixed and it needs a new master cylinder.

68 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2021

Master cylinder and brake booster went out.

69 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2021

Car lost all braking within 5 miles of starting truck. There was risk of serious injury/death. No issues were experienced before parking the car the day before. Audible alert and panel "brake fluid low light" came only only 2 miles before total brake loss. Brake reservoir was empty. Refilled reservoir, pumped brakes until "normal" braking was experienced and the refilled brake reservoir. Ran the engine and drove 3 miles before all braking was lost again. Checked engine compartment and area surrounding brake reservoir and cylinder plus all hydraulic fittings around all four brakes and found all to be bone dry. No evidence of any leak anywhere. Mechanic believes the fluid is being consumed by the engine (bakes sense) and plans on examining to determine.

70 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2021

Low brake fluid light is continuously going on and off. Parking brake also came on. There was a recall and brought to dealer and they said it was fixed. Happen shortly after, dealer said needed a battery. Replaced battery and light is still going on and off. The recall said front brakes wil go out with this issue. If this isn't fixed it will cause a crash.
