At approximately 6:20 pm on Friday, July 26, 2024 airbags exploded on a Ford F-150 while it was on the assembly line (chassis line 5) at Ford motor company's dearborn truck plant (dtp). Two hourly employees, one of them in the driver's seat, were working on the truck at the time and both were sent to an area hospital for treatment. The line was stopped, but only for about 30-40 minutes. By 7 pm it was running again until the conclusion of our scheduled ten-hour day, which occurred at 4:30 am. The truck could not be removed from the line where the explosion had happened, so it had to be run all the way to the end of chassis line 7, where it was pushed off. Employees were extremely angry, to put it mildly, and concerned about another occurrence. I reported this to the michigan occupational safety and health administration (miosha) on Monday, July 29, 2024. Their complaint number is 2193285.

The instrument panel air bag light stayed on continuously, so I was concerned that the air bags might be defective. When I took the vehicle to a Ford dealership for servicing, I was told that the front passenger side seat belt pretensioner/retractor was shortened internally. I was told that unless the part was replaced, the air bags would not deploy upon impact. If I chose not to repair the part, I was told that the vehicle would pass our state's inspection. In order to protect my family's safety, I believed that I had not option but to replace the part. I requested that the dealership give me the defective part, which they did. I still have the defective part. That repair cost me a total of $1097. 98.

My emergency brake doesn't work and light is on,and air bags did not deploy when I was hit from behind.
My truck would shift gears and I would feel a kick. Then the speedometer would drop, and the airbag sensors would turn off. At times the dealership states it is an issue with the transmission lead frame.
The drivers airbag cover is cracked. This has happened to everyone I have talked to with the same vehicle. Also is a topic on many f150 public forums. I think this should be addressed by Ford.

I have owned this F-150 since new and most of its life it has been stored indoors. Recently I noted that any time the vehicle is driven in the rain or left outside while it rains, the rear corners of the cab leaks water. The source of that water is a failed seal surrounding the rear window, which I diagnosed in my shop after removing the headliner and other trim in order to observe the leaking with some water and compressed air. The issue that I noted during the repair was that the airbags that are mounted above the rear passenger windows in the headliner on both sides of the vehicles wicked up moisture that had been caught by the headliner. They were both wet to the touch, which was concerning. Further, the airbag inflator which is mounted in the rear corner post of the vehicle and the seatbelt recoil mechanism both also showed signs that they also recieve moisture from this leak. The vehicle is out of warranty, so there is no manufacturer remedy for the issue unless I were to pay for a complete rear window reseal. I did not have a dealer take a look at this issue at this time. Multiple other owners of f150's of this age have had similar issues with water leaking into the cabin and leaching into the airbags, as described in numberous online forums.

On February 16, 2024, the vehicle (f150 XLT super crew) that was being driven was going approximately 40 miles ph when an other vehicle came out of a side street who had a traffic stop sign. There were two school buses blocking their view and my view of anyone coming out of the development. My vehicle hit head-on the other vehicle and I blacked out. No airbag driver side deployed, but the seat-belt tension-er fully pulled on me. I awoke with alarms going off and smoke in the cab and in the engine. Fire department cut all wiring. I was taken out of the vehicle by paramedics and taken to the hospital with fractured sternum and bruises. Police were on the seen and did a report with the other driver at fault. Insurance company proceeded to have the vehicle towed and inspected and totaled the vehicle. Did not have vehicle inspected by independent company that I know of. Police report stated no air bag deployment. Hospital report showed no air bag deployment. Issues a year earlier with engine replacement by dealership under manufacturer warranty due to engine failure. No other known issues appeared for the failure.

Center piece of steering wheel is cracked.
I had just purchased this well-used 2012 f150xl (1ftmf1cm9cfb36858) because well into retirement at 73 and officially handicapped, it was all I could afford and had to get a personal loan for it anyway. First thing was a lake keowee Ford (reflash recall) which was performed and within a few days, everything electrical stopped and the battery started draining overnight over and over. The truck would not start, the column shifter was locked in park and I could not even push it clear of a carport for a tow truck. With endless research, I find that this shift interlock failure is very, very common on these trucks of all related years and mileages. Below is a quote from a site: according to a survey, more than 75000 complaints reported against this problem across the USA in the last 15 to 17 years. In addition, it has affected the reliability of these f150 models due to sudden column shifter failure with minor internal damage. In my case, the horn stopped working, the seats no longer adjust, the truck is in limp mode only and the steering is now only manual. It is a danger to drive, yet lake keowee is too busy to return my calls and chat efforts, a local repair facility charged $800 to not fix it and refuse to look at it again for “maybe” two weeks” as said, I am disabled and a lifelong type one diabetic so very brittle. I require a means of transportation, yet no one cares enough to offer / or knows how to fix it. This is a known problem that Ford has gotten away with for decades now and an official recall on the shift interlock needs to be fixed. The ball is in your court now.
Both side airbags deployed with a small damage accident where the vehicle hit a concrete barrier at a low rate of speed. Body shop professionals stated that this deployment should not have happened with the damage to the back bumper corner of the f150 truck. Yes, inspected by tow truck driver, insurance and body shop professionals. All state that air bags should not have deployed. No warning lights.

First problem, my air bag cover is cracked and the air bag comes out, I took my vehicle to the dealership before the 36000 miles, when still has bumper to bumper warranty, they replaced the air bag cover for free, after several months my air bag cover broke again, I contacted the dealership, their answer it was that I have to pay for the repairs, air bags are defective because the cover broke by it self, second problem, my transmission have a rough, harsh and erratic shifting some times have hesitation between gears and gear getting stuck while shifting, I was merging in to the highway when I tried to speed up my transmission lose all power and return the shift to first gear, almost get hit by another vehicle because I couln'd speed up, my vehicle stay irresponsive for several seconds, then I hit the gas pedal to the end and the engine rev up then I got my transmission back, that happened to me twice in one day, I'm scared to drive my pick up, when I get home I realized that Ford have a lawsuit against this 10 speed transmission.
