I own a 2023 Ford F-150 lightning, with 48,200 miles and 2. 5 years of ownership. Recently, my truck began displaying a “powertrain / reduced power” warning while driving, and the air conditioning stopped producing cold air. The dealer scanned the vehicle and found dtc p0534 – a/c system charge loss. Further diagnostics indicated that multiple vehicle modules may require reprogramming and software updates. The dealer stated they need to evacuate and recharge the ac system, add dye, and remove front trunk components to locate the leak. This ac system is part of the high-voltage battery and edrive thermal management system, meaning that failure of the hvac system affects battery cooling and powertrain performance. Loss of cabin cooling is a symptom of a thermal system malfunction, which can lead to battery overheating, powertrain derating, and reduced driving performance. The combination of unexpected reduced power and loss of cabin cooling creates a safety risk, particularly during highway driving, merging, or situations requiring acceleration. These failures occurred at relatively low mileage and are associated with the high-voltage ev system, which should be functioning properly to ensure safe vehicle operation. I am submitting this complaint to report a potential safety defect with the 2023 Ford F-150 lightning affecting the battery thermal management, high-voltage ac system, and edrive components, which can result in sudden power loss and compromised vehicle safety.

"my 2015 Ford F-150 is experiencing an intermittent, complete loss of the output shaft speed (oss) signal within the 6r80 transmission lead frame. While driving at speed, the speedometer suddenly drops to zero, the 'wrench' light illuminates, and the vehicle performs an unintended, harsh downshift into a lower gear (limp mode/3rd gear). This creates an immediate safety hazard of rear-wheel lockup or a sudden loss of acceleration in traffic. I took my vehicle to a local repair shop where they could not duplicate the fault. I then called my local Ford dealer who informed me unless it would duplicate the fault or show a code they could not repair the vehicle due to it being against warranty policy.

After a crash into a tree on the passenger side the airbags deployed and the truck immediately caught fire and the doors locked and would not open for any reason. The only way I was able to exit was busting through the front windshield. Had I been severely injured or knocked unconscious the outcome of this would have been much different. The truck burned to the ground in 11 minutes. It has been inspected by the police and awaiting insurance representative to inspect. There were no warning no recalls regarding a crash that would lock the doors and not allow me to exit.
I’ve had the transmission replaced along with the torque converter when both failed less than a year ago. The transmission and the torque converter are now doing the same thing it was doing prior to the replacement. The transmission slips in 4th, 7th and 8th gears. The torque converter whines loudly. Ford will not fix the issues with these transmissions without a hefty out of pocket fee. It’s become very well known that all of these 10r80 engines/transmissions are a major problem that Ford is not remedying. If this transmission gives out when I’m on the interstate it’s going to cause a major wreck. I live in the mountains, so a bad transmission can quickly turn into a deadly accident. These transmissions need a permanent fix, not for us owners to continue paying thousands of dollars for replacements or rebuilds. This is Fords problem.

My transmission jumps or skips or sometimes simply doesn't engage between gears, resulting in upshifting for a slow performance when I need to cross a busy intersection, or staying in low gear and revving up when trying to get on the highway. Some days it works okay, some days it doesn't; but rarely does it work right.

Vehicle information 2021 Ford F-150 powerboost VIN: [xxx] complaint description while driving approximately 70 mph on a highway, my 2021 Ford F-150 powerboost suddenly displayed a “stop safely now” message and immediately lost propulsion. The engine shut down without warning while I was in active traffic. After the shutdown, the vehicle automatically shifted into park and would not allow me to shift into neutral. This left me unable to move the vehicle out of a live traffic lane. I was forced to shut the vehicle off while still in a dangerous roadway position. This incident created a serious safety hazard, as I was traveling at highway speed and could have been rear-ended due to the sudden loss of power and inability to move the vehicle. This issue appears to match Ford technical service bulletin (TSB) 23-2317, which describes “stop safely now” warnings, no-start conditions, and gateway module (gwm) software faults. This indicates a known defect that can cause sudden loss of propulsion. A claim has already been opened with Ford motor company under case number [xxx], and the vehicle is currently at a Ford dealership for diagnosis. At this time, the issue has not been resolved. This failure occurred without warning and presents a significant risk to driver safety and others on the road. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2025 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the engine revved, and while idling, there was a knocking sound coming from the engine. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed with bearing damage caused by a defective connecting rod and rod bearings, which caused the engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact researched online and became aware of NHTSA campaign number: 25v344000 (engine and engine cooling); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was informed of the failure by the dealer; however, the contact had not spoken with the manufacturer. The manufacturer opened a case for the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 1,000.

At 68000 miles I noticed the engine is burning through oil at a rapid pace. A quart of oil a week is bad. If this happens to someone who doesn't keep up with their vehicle, and check it regularly it could be a devastating outcome. It's time Ford fixes this issue.
We have already filed a report regarding multiple unresolved warranty defects that Ford motor company has refused to address for over a year. Among these is a recurring fuel pump failure—an issue that has now occurred multiple times. The most recent incident happened just a couple of weeks ago in the twin cities after being told by our dealer that there was not an issue or fix for the fuel pump issue, where the truck stalled in active traffic, creating a situation that could have resulted in serious injury or worse, death! despite repeated attempts to resolve this matter, Ford’s latest response is unacceptable and has directly led to this additional complaint. We have been told that no action will be taken unless we personally drive this unsafe vehicle to a dealership for inspection. When we made it clear that doing so would put us at risk, we were dismissively told to have it towed if we were unwilling to drive it. Let us be absolutely clear: we will not endanger our lives to accommodate Ford’s refusal to honor its warranty obligations. We are being asked to operate a vehicle with known, unresolved defects that have already proven dangerous. This is not only irresponsible—it is indefensible. If this matter is not addressed immediately and appropriately, we will have no choice but to escalate further.
When I am parking the truck, I press and hold the brake pedal, while the truck shifter in in "drive", I press the start/stop button to shut truck down, the shifter gets stuck in "drive" and doesn't automatically shift in to park. The truck locks down and will not operate as the shifter locks in "drive" and won't shift. This happened to me while travelling and was stuck in middle of no where for hours. Here are some troubleshooting tips from various reddit posts. . . Immediate troubleshooting steps battery disconnect: disconnect both 12v battery terminals (including the small one, if equipped) for 5-10 minutes to reset the system. Manual park release: locate the manual release lever (often under a small cover near the shifter or under the steering wheel) to force it into park. Restart sequence: turn the truck off, wait 1-2 minutes, and attempt to restart. Check battery voltage: a weak battery (under ) can cause shifter interlock issues.
An unknown coolant leak with my 2017 2. 7 engine causing sufficient damage due to a manufacturer error and needing a new engine. I had several people tell me this is a common issue with 2. 7 engines.

I am reporting a serious safety defect in my 2023 Ford F-150 platinum supercrew (ecoboost engine. The oil pressure warning light suddenly illuminated, indicating a loss of oil pressure. Immediately after, the engine suffered catastrophic failure (it "blew the engine"). At the same moment, with no input from me, the gear shifter automatically shifted from drive into park. This caused the transmission to lock up, resulting in violent skidding and the truck veering off the road. I was able to regain control and avoid a collision or rollover, but the incident created an imminent risk of serious injury or fatality, especially while towing. I have maintained it properly, never missed a payment on the $74,000 truck, and drove it cross-country from arizona to florida without prior issues. Ford motor company has claimed there were "70 warnings" prior to the failure, but I received **zero** dashboard warnings, lights, messages, or indications at any point leading up to or during the event. This is the second Ford F-150 I have owned with unexplained powertrain problems. I traded a 2018 F-150 for the platinum & it repeatedly stalled without reason & required the engine to cool before restarting; dealerships (FL & TN) could not fully diagnose it, with one suggesting an oil-pump-related overheating issue despite no warning lights. Repair estimates are extremely high: gator Ford quoted $17,000, brandon Ford quoted $14,000, veterans Ford quoted $12,000, and an independent shop quoted $12,000 (notably, the independent shop knew the dealership quotes without me providing them). I believe this points to a potential defect in the ecoboost engine's oil pump system (possibly excessive pressure or failure under load/towing) combined with an unintended shift-to-park function in the transmission/shifter electronics, creating a dangerous loss of control at highway speeds while towing. This combination of sudden engine seizure and automatic shift to park poses an unreasonable risk of crash.
I own a 2019 Ford F-150 equipped with the 3. 5l ecoboost engine. The vehicle has developed a loud rattling noise during startup along with an illuminated check engine light. The vehicle was diagnosed by family Ford of enfield as having a failure in the timing system, including cam phasers, timing chain, tensioners, and guides. The estimated repair cost is approximately $5,000. This issue appears to be a widespread and well-documented problem affecting 2017–2020 Ford F-150 vehicles with the 3. 5l ecoboost engine. The failure of cam phasers and timing components can lead to improper engine timing, rough operation, and potential engine damage. I am concerned that this condition could worsen over time and potentially lead to engine failure while driving, creating a safety risk. Despite this being a known issue, no recall or adequate assistance has been provided. I am submitting this complaint so that this recurring problem can be investigated further for potential safety implications and manufacturer responsibility.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford f150. The contact stated that while driving at 30 mph, the speedometer went to zero unexpectedly. In addition, the transmission failed to properly shift gears. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road, turned off, and minutes later, it was restarted. After the vehicle was restarted, the wrench warning light illuminated. The contact moved the shift lever to reverse(r), then to drive(d). The contact test drove the vehicle around the parking lot at the apartment complex, and the vehicle functioned as intended. The contact's son-in-law took the vehicle to the dealer to be diagnosed and the contact was informed that dtc: p0722 (powertrain control module (pcm) was receiving "no signal" from the transmission output speed sensor (oss), p1500 (intermittent vehicle speed sensor (vss) signal detected by the powertrain control module (pcm), and p2195 (powertrain control module (pcm) detected that the bank 1 sensor 1 oxygen (O2) sensor signal was stuck lean). The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, while the vehicle was turned and when the contact placed the shift lever into reverse(r) the wrench warning light illuminated. The contact parked the vehicle and had not been driven since due to safety concerns. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 166,398.

The vehicle’s original engine began producing excessive white smoke during startup. The vehicle was diagnosed by autonation Ford, and it was determined that the passenger-side cylinder head was cracked near the exhaust port. This defect allowed coolant to intrude into the passenger-side turbocharger. Due to the extent of the damage, the engine required full replacement. The engine was replaced with a used motor under a third-party warranty on August 21, 2024. The replacement engine is now experiencing the exact same failure symptoms. Specifically, the vehicle produces white smoke at startup consistent with coolant intrusion. Bozard Ford performed a diagnostic evaluation, completed on February 27, 2026. Their findings determined that the replacement engine has the identical defect: a cracked passenger-side cylinder head near the exhaust port allowing coolant intrusion into the turbocharger. This repeated failure raises significant safety concerns. Coolant intrusion into the turbocharger and combustion chamber may lead to engine misfire, loss of power, potential engine damage while driving, and possible sudden engine failure. Additionally, burning coolant may damage emissions components and create hazardous driving conditions due to reduced visibility from exhaust smoke. The fact that two separate engines in the same vehicle have experienced the exact same cylinder head failure suggests a potential design or manufacturing defect specific to the 2. 7l ecoboost engine. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate this issue to determine whether this is a broader safety-related defect affecting other 2015 Ford F-150 vehicles equipped with the 2. 7l ecoboost engine. Please let me know if additional documentation, repair records, or diagnostic reports are required.
Failed cam phaser. Brought truck to dealership regarding loud rattling noise on cold starts. Prior to inspection, service technician mentioned it could be the cam phaser because they have had reported problems. Ford did not issue a formal recall but issued a customer satisfaction program 21b10 to extend warranty coverage due to the known issue but only extended through 2022. I did not have a rattling noise at that time and did not qualify. The noise started recently and there were no warning lights or messages. Only a rattling noise. After the dealership inspected the truck they deamed it unsafe to drive.
Excessive oil consumption. Consumes more than 1 quart of oil every 5k miles.
My f 150 2. 7 2019 has a front engine noise when cold start up. It will go away when in a couple minutes!!! is there a problem w/ this engine? I just wanted to go on record about this problem!!!.
1) vehicle transmission erratic shifting ,skips gear 2 and 4 a lot and sometimes from stop to 33 mph it seems to go into neutral then bang back into gear. Grand kids in back gets knocked around hard enough to lose food/drinks. It dose to back but now the truck is less than 10mph. 2) on start up something in the engine jingle and gaggle sound for 1-3 seconds. . This happens when truck has been sitting for long period.
While driving on the highway on 02/20/2026 at approximately 152,000 miles, my 2019 Ford F-150 3. 0l power stroke diesel caught fire and was completely destroyed. The day before the fire (02/19/2026), the Fordpass app logged an electrical system error that self-cleared the same day. Believing the issue resolved itself, I continued normal operation. The following day the vehicle caught fire on the highway and was a total loss. Ford's own telematics system captured the fault code prior to the fire. I am filing this complaint to formally document this incident and believe this represents a product defect.
My 2019 Ford F-150 (2. 7l ecoboost) is subject to emission recall 24e12, which addresses a defective pcm calibration that Ford acknowledges "could, over time, reduce the effectiveness of the emissions control system and the monitoring accuracy of the catalytic converter's efficiency. " component: catalytic converter system and powertrain control module (pcm). Vehicle is available for inspection at rich Ford in albuquerque, nm, where it has been serviced for this issue. Timeline: prior to the 24e12 recall repair, my truck had intermittent p0420/p0430 codes (catalyst efficiency below threshold). The check engine light would illuminate and then clear on its own. I brought the vehicle to rich Ford for the 24e12 pcm reprogram. Within approximately one month of the recall repair, the same catalytic converter codes returned, except now the condition is constant and no longer clears. This timeline is documented in my Fordpass app and the dealer's service records. Safety risk: the constant check engine light prevents the vehicle from passing bernalillo county emissions testing, which is required for registration in albuquerque, nm. I am unable to legally register my vehicle due to a condition caused by a manufacturer-acknowledged defect. Dealer confirmation: rich Ford diagnosed the recurring p0420/p0430 codes. They initially attempted to charge me $300+ for extended diagnostics. They are now consulting with Ford about whether a catalytic converter replacement will be covered under the recall. Prior symptoms: the intermittent check engine light with p0420/p0430 codes existed before the recall repair but was not constant. The recall repair worsened the condition from intermittent to persistent. Pattern: Ford's recall documentation states the mil "may illuminate even though a catalytic converter repair may not be necessary," yet numerous owners report being quoted $1,900-$2,100+ for cat replacement at their own expense after the 24e12 reprogram. Ford corporate confirmed the $300.
The vehicle is experiencing a chronic, documented loss of engine coolant with no external leaks identified, accompanied by a persistent odor of burning coolant. Despite nine months of notification and two separate Ford authorized dealerships attempting repairs, the defect remains unresolved. To date, dealerships have performed only 'surface-level' pressure and dye tests. They have refused to perform thorough diagnostics despite the clear evidence of consumption. This creates a severe safety hazard: coolant loss on this engine platform is a known precursor to sudden engine stall and potential engine fire. By failing to identify the internal leak path, Ford is requiring me to operate a vehicle with an unpredictable mechanical deficit. The absence of a warning lamp (cel) does not mitigate the risk; it confirms a mechanical failure that the current onboard diagnostics are failing to capture before a catastrophic event occurs.
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated with an abnormal rattling sound coming from the engine compartment. The Ford app indicated a timing failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact believed that the failure was associated with an undisclosed recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 58,000.
2020 f150 with only 63000 miles has a failed transmission. The truck doesn't shift gears properly, gets stuck in gears, loses power suddenly. This is a huge safety risk as the vehicle just stops accelerating or working when driving. This clearly endangers me and other drivers. Ford refuses to pay even though their check engine light gave a transmission/power failure alert and the Ford dealership inspected it and their diagnosis replace complete transmission assembly. Has internal cdf drum bushing failure. This is an ongoing issue with these 10 speed transmissions on these f150s. There are several class action lawsuits against Ford over these 10r80 transmissions. Ford is not only refusing to recall these dangerous vehicles but also refusing to pay to cover the repairs on transmissions they've known are defect.

I have had my 2019 Ford F-150 for 5 years now and always noticed that it was consuming oil. After further investigation I discovered that Ford put out TSB 19-2365 (and 19-2338) which I never received pertaining to oil consumption. I talked to Ford and they said they would inspect for a mere $199. 00 dollars for a problem they new was a problem for my 5. 0 liter coyote engine. Since the problem began I now have a faulty catalytic converter and 02 sensors because of this defect. I also have to purchase a catch can to prevent oil getting through to the catalytic converter.
Ford has had a known problem with their cam phaser in 2017-2020 truck and SUV's. My truck got the recall 21b10 accomplished in 2021 and just a couple years later requires $5600 to fix a failed camshaft gear/sprocket. Ford refuses to help pay for the required repair.
While driving my truck roughly 60 mph, I experienced a sudden and uncommandded shift from 6th to 1st gear for roughly 3-5 seconds. When this occurred the engine rpms jumped up to near red line and I experienced a rapid deceleration. I was driving on a dry road with new tires and did not experience any wheel lock up or skidding. However, this could have very easily posed an extreme safety hazard to both me and other drivers around me had I lost control of the vehicle which would have been highly likely in less optimal conditions. The problem has not been reproduced by a dealer or independent service center and the components have not been inspected. While the downshift was occurring there were some lights that flashed on the dashboard. I believe it may have been a check engine light, but my focus was on maintaining control of the vehicle so I did not have time to focus on the lights. Once the engine shifted back to normal there were no remaining lights or cautions. The symptoms of this incident very closely match those discussed in the ongoing investigation ea26001.
There is a terrible noise during startup and it appears to be the same cam phaser issue that many Ford f150 owners are experiencing. I think it's been going on for awhile but I generally remote start it so it can warm up a bit before I jump in and go. Within the last week I remote started it when I was close by and the noise is not good. It sounds like the motor is ready to blow for a few seconds then goes away.
While driving the truck automatically down shifted. If I drove move 20 mp it would shift. The truck would not go into reverse, the gear was stuck. I had to turn if off and then turn it back on then it let me shift the gears. On the dashboard the wrench and other indicators lit up on the dashboard.
At 70k miles cam phaser is starting to go bad and Ford will not honor prior recall or TSB tn2103 and recall 21b10. Ford has issues a 40% repair coverage and does acknowledge the issue but does not think it's their fault now. Would like Ford to issue a full recall on this issue.
When driving the gas pedal will go dead or not work at all. I will be driving along then try to push the gas at a left hand turn and nothing will happen. I push the pedal to the floor many times and after a period of time it starts to work again. The issue never puts out a code or check engine light. This is a safety issue for not only me and my family but others on the road as well. If the gas pedal was to fully stop working the truck would be stuck and could cause an accident. The dealer told me they could not reproduce the concern, but they did suggest to replace a temp sensor and reprogram pcm which I paid for, the cost was $870. 90.
