8 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 11/16/2021

My truck started making a whistle and ticking sound different than the standard turbo whistle. I've also noticed a burning smell recently when accelerating. I took the vehicle in to the dealership, and they pointed out that the exhaust manifold is warped. Looking online, this is a standard issue with Ford's ecoboost engine -- however this is not covered by the extended warranty. This could cause the vehicle to fail emissions testing.

9 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2011 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 07/16/2021

3. 5l ecoboost. Exhaust manifold bolts brake or come loose. Resulting in warped exhaust manifold. Loss of power. On highway going 60 miles an hour when lost power and resulted in speed down to 30-20, and nowhere I could pull off highway to emergency lane. Was basically stranded. Took the vehicle into Ford dealership in roseburg oregon July 16 2021 where they told me that it was an exhaust manifold which had been already done the year prior 2019 at a cost of $1200. This time it will cost $2500. There were no warning lights or advanced notice of any problem. We were going up an incline on interstate 5 and it was like somebody turned the key off lost power and overheated.

10 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

16 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2014 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 12/01/2020

Ford has obviously machined manifolds for the F-150 that are less than reliable and lack in quality. The exhaust manifolds are not hardened to endure engine heat and end up warping. This causes exhaust bolts to break, exhaust gaskets to be destroyed and in turn causes loud noises and potential damage to the motor on their F-150 trucks. Ford obviously knows that they have a problem on their hands as they are currently dealing with 1,700+ vehicles that are sitting in service shops across the country for this very reason. I called Ford to find out what was causing the issue and they explained that the materials just aren't holding up to driving conditions. Ford is working redesigning the manifolds and releasing them for purchase. However, it you have an issue this large and have admitted that it is due to your own failure to produce a product/part that will endure normal driving conditions, this should be recalled and fixed by Ford. Personally, I don't drive this truck very often. It is stored inside and taken care of to the extreme. The vehicle had been parked in a garage for a few days to a week (approximately) and when I started the truck I heard a loud "clicking" noise. I took it out for a drive to see if I could locate the noise. At first is was just a fast clicking noise on acceleration. This became a loud clicking mixed with a whistling noise. Thinking it was a bearing in one of the turbos, I took it in for inspection and they found the broken exhaust stud and damaged exhaust gasket. While working on fixing the issues, they found that all of this resulted from the deformed manifold.

17 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 11/02/2020

Exhaust manifold stud bolt broken on rear of drivers side manifold. Makes a loud chirping noise when accelerating. Many other owners complaining about same issue on this eco boost 3. 5l engine.

18 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/29/2020

My 2016 Ford f150 recently started whistling at the 2500rpm point from the front end of the my truck. I took it to the dealership expecting a vacuum hose issue and was told both exhaust manifolds had warped and broke off some of the mounting bolts. I was a bit shocked since the vehicle has 102,000 miles on it and it's not been abused in anyway. Unfortunately, the factory warranty runs out at 100,000 miles and on the hook for the cost of this $1600+ (so far) repair. After doing a little research on the internet it did not take me long to discover this is a very well known problem with the 3. 5l ecoboost engine. There were a multitude of websites and youtube videos addressing this known problem with folks quite upset that an official recall has not been issued yet with a proper fix/replacement and reimburse the owners who have already paid for the fix. Seems like it's not a matter of if it's going to happen to your truck. . . But when. Very disappointing, especially when you hear how many known issues have already been reported. Exhaust fumes leaking from the engine and possibly into the cab. . . Should take a high priority to resolve. Let's go Ford. . . Make it right! thank you.

19 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2011 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/10/2020

While driving under a load, towing, especially up a mountain side or steep grade, the exhaust manifold started chirping, or letting out air, power was reduced, and the situation was very unsafe. Since then, power has been down, as has fuel economy. The ability to do work is gone.

23 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/03/2020

My 2016 Ford F-150, at around 68,000 miles, began to experienced power loss and a loud whistle or whining sound during acceleration, coming from the front left and right side of the engine. During acceleration, a high-pitched whine occurs and increases when revving the engine. Truck power loss was noticeable and boost declined, dropping to less than 25%. Exhaust fumes were noticeable from inside the cab of the truck. Depaul Ford of albany, NY misdiagnosed it as a bad turbo with a stuck open wastegate and so we replaced the passenger side turbo, which did not fix the problem. The truck was brought to a highly recommended mechanic technician, matt, at miller's corners garage in albany, NY. He discovered the bolts and studs that hold the manifolds in place were severely rusted and the manifold was warped with significant air leak and blow by. There was a large black sooty streak on the manifold side where the turbo hooks up, where the blow-by was occurring. At a cost of $1100 the passenger side manifold, hardware and related components were replaced. The driver side manifold is not available from Ford until late December and still requires replacement. The vehicle has been well taken care of and is driven in upstate new york. It is rarely used for towing. It's absurd to think that a truck with such low mileage would have such a severe and expensive issue, significantly decreasing engine power, reducing the life of the engine and bringing fumes into the cab. This should be a recall issue.

24 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2012 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/01/2020

The exhaust manifolds warp and in turn break off the exhaust manifold stud at the rear of the manifold making a very large exhaust leak at the block where it meets the exhaust manifold this happened under normal vehicle operation on highways.

Exhaust manifold leak.

32 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 01/23/2020

At approximately 80,000 miles, I began to hear a chirping or air whistling sound when lightly to moderately accelerating. I began to investigate the noise using the internet where I located videos from other F-150 ecoboost 3. 5 engine owners who were experiencing the same exact senario as I was. They had found that the drivers side and/or passenger side exhaust manifolds were leaking exhaust. The tell tale sign is a darkening of the area around the rear of each manifold. The manifolds were warping from either a design flaw or material failure at the rear and also breaking the mounting fasteners. I have determined both of my manifolds are leaking exhaust from the noises coming from the engine compartment while driving. This may trigger a safety inspection failure if found due to leaking exhaust as well as an emission test failure if required by the state where the owner resides. Also the release of carbon monoxide forward of the passenger compartment is a concern especially if the leaks increase in size.

33 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 12/21/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. While driving, the check engine indicator suddenly illuminated and remained lit after the vehicle was restarted. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000. The VIN was unknown.

34 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 12/01/2019

When accelerating , there is a loud chirping noise coming from the engine. The exhaust manifolds have warped. Very annoying sound and loss of power. Seems to be a common problem among other owners of the 3. 5 eco boost. Very disappointing.

35 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2010 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/15/2019

On my truck the passenger side exhaust manifold has rusted and the rear bolts have rusted off. This has caused the manifold to leak right at the exhaust port. This leak fills the cab of the vehicle with exhaust fumes. It is also leaking pre-catalyst exhaust. The fuels in the cab are a serious safety issue and well as an emissions issue. Research on the internet shows this is a very common problem on Ford trucks of this era. Talking to Ford about this they offer a very small discount on the service if I have it done at the dealer. I have had trucks for years and never had a problem like this before. My truck is a 2010 Ford f150 with 106,000 miles on it.
