Tl the contact owns a 2013 Ford F-150. The contact called on behalf of her husband. While driving 60 mph, smoke was detected under the hood and the tail pipe. The vehicle was driven to a parking lot where it stalled as flames were detected coming from the engine. A police report was filed. Another motorist had a fire extinguisher and extinguished the fire. The contact's husband sustained burns to one of his hands. Medical attention was not received. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 260,000.
This problem is related to Ford 5. 4 liter triton v8 24 valve engines and frequent failures of the exhaust manifolds. A search of online literature from automotive experts and mechanics report an unusual number of these manifolds warping, cracking, and breaking the mounting studs. Repairs are very expensive, in the range of $1000 - $2000 per manifold. Last fall 2018, my 2006 F-150 5. 4 triton, with only 83,000 miles, began leaking exhaust from the right side manifold. I took it to a Ford dealer for repairs. (some independent repair shops stated they will not work on these Ford model manifolds anymore. ) the total cost to replace the manifold was over $1800. The parts and materials were only about $300. There was a lot of labor involved because 6 of 8 mounting studs had to removed and replaced. The dealer also recommended replacing the left side manifold because the mounting studs on that side were showing signs of impending failure. In fact, some of the studs may be broken already, but the left manifold is not yet leaking, so I did not replace the left manifold at that time. I am a retired mine engineer/manager. I was heavily involved in the maintenance of trucks and equipment. I believe there is a design problem in these manifolds and/or the heads they mount on. (these are the heads that prompted the 5. 4 triton spark plug settlement. ).

Passanger side exhaust manifold bolt as broke off causing an exhaust leak. The vehicle has 59010 miles and is a 2013. Ford wants over 1600 to fix said issue. Ford is not willing to accept fault or cover under emissions warranty.
Requestng Ford be made to issue a recall for exhaust manifold holes and cracking issues. This issue is known and the are multiple forums online where people are talking about having this issue. When the manifold leaks, the risk is there that exhaust fumes can get into the driving compartment and asphyxiate the people in the car. It is an expensive repair for an issue for should have resolved long ago.

The vehicle hesitates, idles roughly when cold and makes a knocking type noise at idle when hot. The coolant level has gone down substantially despite having it serviced recently. We have experienced large amounts of water dripping from the tail pipe along with the occasional puff of thick smoke. The vehicle misfires and it has been verified by a scan tool (my own and Fords). Ford's technicians have verified the concern but have told us that without a hard fault, they are not able to look into the problem further. This issue has been brought to their attention several times with no resolution. While it may be related or unrelated, the transmission also jerks when slowing down and has a tendency to lurch forward when going from 3-2-1 gears. This has also been verified by Ford and they have made two attempts using TSB 16-0015 to resolve without any improvement.

Exhaust manifolds are leaking and causing exhust fumes to enter the vehicle. Truck has aprox 120,000, issue started at around 80,000. It's at the point now where it makes people in the truck sick and it won't pass state inspection. Cam phasers make noises as well. Wo know when this engine will fail. Common problems with the 5. 4 v8 engine. Well documented on the internet.

Warped exhaust manifold resulting in broken manifold stud, exhaust leak and excessive engine noise.
My 2010 f150 started getting carbon monoxide coming through the cabin heating system. This was caused by the exhaust manifold and bolts breaking due to rusting out and allowing carbon monoxide to seep into the engine compartment and into the cabin. I as the driver became ill for 2 days as I was not aware that the poison was coming into the cabin at first. I had a 70 mile highway drive to get home. The vehicle has had severe rusting throughout the drive train starting at 3 years old. Ford has never accepted any responsibility for this issue. I want to be clear on this as in hopes of not having this happen to anyone else. I feel I could have died from this poisoning. I have never had a vehicle do this, especially one as new as this vehicle.
Exhaust manifold studs. Design flaw of the exhaust manifolds on the F-150 ecoboost causing manifold bolts to snap/sheer, which in turn causes the manifolds to warp. This is causing noise, and possibly exhaust gases to enter the passenger compartment. Ford is offering a fix under program code: 17m05 for the f450/f550, but is excluding the other "f series" trucks which suffer from the same/similar issue. The issue was noticed immediately after an engine misfire began occurring (which is also a known issue). The dealership has quoted $1,400 to replace the manifolds and studs.

Soft aluminum heads allowing sparkplug threads to wallow out and shoot them out head like a rifle and breaking coil mount and since fuel still being squirted in it is ejected into a hot engine manifold that could ignite the fuel air mixture and cause a fire. Happened while driving on city street. Ford is addle if they think they can pass it on to the consumer unscathed!.

Bought my truck without knowing that it has a common is with the exhaust manifold leak. It is real bad where the fumes get in the cab of truck when it first starts up this issue has lead to other health issues for me.
The contact owns a 2009 Ford F-150. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that there was an exhaust leak and fractured bolts in the manifold. The independent mechanic informed the contact that the vehicle should be taken to an authorized dealer for further diagnostic testing. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine cam, timing sensors, and gears failed and the engine would need to be replaced. The failure occurred 24 hours after the vehicle was purchased. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 125,136.
Exhaust manifold warping. 2010 Ford f150 fx4 5. 4l. Right side manifold warped at 95,000 miles and left side manifold warped at 135,000 miles. Right side replaced for $1,500. Have not done the left side yet. Too expensive. This is a known defect with this model. Should be warranty work.
I was cruising along the highway at approx. 68 mph, then I heard a loud pop. Then immediately after sounded like I was driving without an exhaust manifold almost. Once I felt that I had lost a lot of power I then realized what happened. I was luckily 2 miles away from a town and babied it into a store parking lot. Upon looking under the hood I found the sparkplug ejected from cylinder #3 and busted the ignition coil. Now what if I was int the middle of nowhere with my wife and daughter? worse yet what if the vehicle had caught on fire with them as well? due to fuel vapor spitting out the sparkplug bore and getting ignited from the loose ignition coil. I myself and others have been fortunate that these things did not happen, but I can't say for everyone. This is a very big issue that has been ignored and is a potentially huge safety hazard as well.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford f150. The contact stated that while driving at any speed, the vehicle accelerated uncontrollably. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the flapper center intake manifold failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was not available.
Ford motor company has installed defective fasteners on the exhaust manifolds of numerous modular v8 (4. 6l & 5. 4l) equipped F-150s. This is a well documented issue among several F-150 owners throughout the us and canada for many model years. The problem with these manifold fasteners (studs) is that after the normal heat cycles of driving and sitting, they begin to deteriorate at an excelled rate. Once a stud or studs have failed, engine emissions leave the exhaust system prior to reaching the catalytic converter. The way to repair this is by removing the exhaust system and manifolds in order to extract the broken stud or studs and replace them with improved parts, in many cases the entire engine must be removed from the vehicle due to clearance issues. Not only is this issue very costly to the consumer and the environment it is also an arduous process to be repaired even by someone that is mechanically inclined. My 2009 F-150 currently has this same issue. Evidence that this has been a consistent problem for almost a decade: service bulletin no. : 17320 component(s): engine and engine cooling NHTSA id number: 10008169.
Upon downshift during acceleration, the truck shudders, misfires, backfires through exhaust system, and loses power while creating a violent shake in the drivetrain. This occurs in below 35° dry or wet weather. This issue destroyed my catalytic converters, as well as broke loose the baffles in factory muffler causing over $2,000 in repairs for exhaust. I further replaced plugs, and plug boots. The vehicle continues to have this severe issue, and the only way to keep from further damaging the vehicle is to pull off the road, and idle as well as rev engine for several minutes. It is extremely unsafe, and nearly caused other vehicles to rear ended me on at least 5 occasions. All of which I had to jump onto shoulder of road or in median to keep from getting hit. My research shows that this is a common problem amongst owners of this vehicle. I currently owe $22,000 on this vehicle, and am quite frustrated with the lack of a recall from Ford. Solutions of a walker cac are known; however, Ford is not willing to even consider paying for this fix. Please help in the resolving of this issue?.

I blew the 3rd cylinder spark plug out on the passenger side, 2 times in 600 miles while driving at normal highway speeds. This caused raw fuel to leak onto the hot manifold causing a safety issue. I spent 1142. 17 to have this issue repaired.

Exhaust manifolds have developed holes in them. I believe Ford's suppliers provided inferior materials in their casting of the manifolds. This not only offers more pollution to the atmosphere but is a possible fire hazard. My vehicle has been well cared for and has only 37000 original miles. I have vehicles built in the 1950 and their exhaust manifolds continue to function. I believe a recall on these vehicles is in order and Ford motor company should make the necessary repairs at their expense.
I have been having problems with engine overheating, heater temperature working intermittently inside, misfire on one cylinder. I have replaced thermostat, spark plugs and wires, and coils. Diagnotic code still reads misfire on one cylinder. Misfire is not constant. After researching I found others stating there is a recall. . . "recall # 99b20". I can not find a recall 99b20. I did notice there have been 545 other complaints concerning engine cooling and manifold o rings, blown head gaskets etc due to faulty components. I am adding my complaint as well for further investigative action, as I feel there should be a real recall to fix this problem/complaints.

The truck has 9000 actual miles on it now, but I fail to understand (1) why the windshield leaks and the vehicle has always been stored under a carport? (2) fuel gauge on front tank always shows empty when its full? (3) driver side exhaust manifold is cracked? is there any recalls for this vehicle related to the above issues?.
I came home from work on 12/13 2014 and noticed I had a water puddle under my truck so on 12/14/2014 I pulled in the garage and did some searching only to find the outlet tube in the manifold was leaking I assumed it was the rubber hose and when I went to replace it the outlet tube broke off at the base of the intake manifold. Upon doing some research I found that the only way to replace it is to buy a new intake manifold so at this point my truck is stuck in the garage . I checked the outlet tube and found 2 pinholes in it. This is a crate motor replaced by Ford at 88000 miles I can't afford the 500. 00 that a new one will costs so I'm out a vehicle at this time.
Water leaking from intake manifold coolant crossover line. Crossover is an aluminum pipe that connects to the plastic intake manifold. When manifold started leaking coolant, 1 & 2 spark plug holes filled with water causing spark plugs to short out and stall the engine at low speed. Per Ford the only repair is replacement of the complete intake manifold at a cost of over $1200. 00. This is a common problem with this engine. I have seen many complaints on F-150 forums via the internet of people having the same problem. My truck has only 105000 miles on it.
Exhaust manifolds are rusting off very bad . Big flakes . I don't even drive truck in winter . I called Ford and gote no help.
