2016 F-150 3. 5l 4x4 ecoboost with max towing package - vehicle suddenly and w/o warning caught fire and engulfed in flames within 10 minutes of hearing a humming sound and then seeing white or gray smoke. We were towing our 28 ft travel trailer for the first time in about 4-5 months, 30 minutes into the trip on a flat highway. Pulled over within 1 min of hearing the noise/ seeing smoke. Upon exiting, saw flames peeking out from under front of truck. Flames hit the cab within probably 3 mins later. We had towed a 28 ft travel trailer with this vehicle extensively and comfortably with few issues (except throttle body failure around 30k miles). Regular oil changes and maintenance. Full PA state inspection 3 months prior, oil change 2k miles prior. No outstanding recall work to our knowledge. No unusual handling, smells, leaking fluids that we noticed, or warning lights. Fire investigator's best guess was sudden transmission issue because it completely burned away but we'll unfortunately never really know.

Tl the contact owns a 2004 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled and the accelerator pedal hesitated when depressed. As a result, the vehicle made an abnormal puttering sound while in drive. In addition, the electrical system failed. The spark plugs were changed multiple times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the spark plugs should not be touched because they were Ford certified spark plugs and tear easily. A special onsite Ford mechanic repaired the spark plugs. The accelerator pedal and stalling failures were not repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 233,000.

After a rainstorm and while driving, my windshield wipers stopped working, my radio/cd player started turning off and on, my panel light dimmed, and I heard a clicking noise under my driver side dash board. There was also a clicking noise coming from the engine. While stationary and key out of the ignition, I noticed water on the driver side floor, and when I looked under I could see drops of water sliding off I believe my emergency bake and brake pedal, and an ongoing clicking sound under the steering wheel. I left my truck in driveway overnight, and the next morning my battery was dead. I had aaa tow come and replace battery that afternoon. The next morning the battery was dead again. Aaa came and checked the starter and alternator, all were fine. As they recharged battery there was a weird noise heard in the engine area. I drove it to a mechanic with Ford truck experience. He stated the gem and fuse box were wet and attributed it to water leakage coming from the windshield weather stripping trim which was common in Fords vehicles. He recommended replacing gem, fuse box, and windshield trim. This water/electrical problem happens every year after a rainstorm. I never thought a vehicle in good condition could have outside water leaks getting inside and onto the fuse box and gem module. The mechanic told me it can become very dangerous for the gem and fuse box to fail because it controls everything in the truck. The gem and fuse box should be protected from outside elements. When water is introduced to these modules, it makes the whole system go wacky and can cause serious and possibly dangerous situations. Ford needs to acknowledge that this is a manufacture defect and fix and/or reimburse us consumers on the cost of fixing it.

A ticking/knocking noise on passenger side of engine. Took to Ford dealer with 52,905 miles on 7/12/16 and stated fuel injector noise. Took to same Ford dealer on 11/7/18 for same noise, only louder, and dealer detected no unusual noise. Took to different dealer a 3rd time on 3/27/19 for the same problem and stated "noise found to be normal characteristics" and was given a copy of "special service message 47787 which addressed a "tick tap and/or typewriter noise at idle" issue. This problem was brought to the attention of Ford while it was still under manufactures warranty and the sound is only getting worse which is why I keep taking it to a Ford dealership. The sound is not heard when the vehicle is first started, only when it starts to warm up and is quite loud at an idle. If this engine were to blow up going down the highway or interstate could potentially cause an accident resulting in injury and/or fatal crash.

I bought this vehicle used with 139000 miles on Saturday 05/16/15. Now I was not expecting a new vehicle but not one with so many problems either. First of all it has a very rough idle, I found that there is a serious problem with this engine and removal of the spark plugs. The repair shop will not even give an estimate for changing the spark plugs as there are very well known problems with them breaking off in the engine. Ford knows about this and has put out a notice about this known problem. I had to take it for a lower steering arm replacement on Monday 05/18/15 as the wheel was not returning to the straight position without assistance. Now there is a humming noise from the rear differential that the repair guy said is the pinion barring and that it needs to be fixed. The dealer window sticker had everything checked as good and no notes to say there was anything wrong with the vehicle. No surprise there. After checking this web site I found an open recall for the airbag which was repaired. I also found all the reports of problems with this vehicle. My question is why the NHTSA is not requiring Ford to recall these vehicles for the numerous problems that were reported from day one and allowed to continue through 2008. Ford was allowed to keep building these vehicles along with others with the same defective parts for over 4 years. That is just wrong. I can not believe they are allowed to get away with this kind of crap.
While driving at highway speeds and attempting to pass a slower car, the truck lost 50% of its power. It began to miss fire, and act like it had bad gas or something. I also started to notice that if you turn a corner on wet pavement and you lose traction, the truck made the same gurgling sound with power loss. This has happened several times. I have also noticed that I get very bad gas mileage averaging 12 mpg on the highway. I took the truck in and they reprogrammed it. I think all this did was cut back the power to help prevent detonation or miss fires. After this the truck was a complete dog. Bad mileage and no power. I recently sent the truck back and they replaced some parts with the intercooler. It isn't 100% fixed but it is better. Mileage picked up to 15 mpg but nowhere near what they claim. Power is better but still not good. Very disappointed overall.
2001 Ford f150 was parked for 4-5 days in driveway. Woke up early a. M. To loud thumb noise. Looked out, truck was engulfed in flames. Fire depts says it looks like it was electrical and from under hood. Truck is a total loss. Insurance CO. Has yet to look at truck.

The contact owns a 1997 Ford F-150. He stated that while
exiting a driveway at approximately 5 mph, there was a loud, unusual noise followed by the vehicle independently decelerating. The vehicle was driven to a local repair facility where the contact was informed that the spark plugs had detached from the vehicle and stripped the threads holding the spark plugs in place. In addition, the failure caused the spark plug wires to melt. The vehicle was repaired with a coil spark plug kit. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was contacted. The failure and current mileages were 67,000.

My 1997 Ford f150 4x4 on the right cylinder head the rear spark plug came out while driving loss of power now I can not drive it makes weird noises is there a recall on this spark plug no longer fits in the head was this a bad flaw to the 4. 6 duel overhead cam engine . Do I have a claim with Ford motor company thank you!.
I was driving my 2002 Ford F-150 when the spark plug (3rd one on passenger side blew out of the head on the engine. The engine is a 4. 6 liter triton engine. It made a large bang then a thumping noise and loss of power to engine so I hurried and pulled over and shut the engine off. Tried to put spark plug back in. It stayed in for a few days and blew out again. It will not stay in. The cost of repairs could reach $2000. 00 easily. If someone was near the engine when it went off it might of killed them. Very dangerous situation. I looked up on the internet to find a way to fix the problem and found out hundreds if not thousands of people have had the same problem with these engines.
