Tl the contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. While driving at any speed, the engine made a grinding sound without warning. The vehicle was taken to norris Ford (410-285-0200, located at 901 merritt blvd, baltimore, MD 21222) where it was determined that the sound was normal and no failure code was found. The contact was provided a rental vehicle while the technician kept the vehicle for observation. The technician later diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and promised to call the contact back. The contact was not called back. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000. The VIN was not provided.

Immediately following an oil change, my truck began making insanely loud grinding noises. I attempted to drive from knoxville to chattanooga and barely made it to cleveland. My truck stalled, started back up and I coasted into a parking lot. It would not go over 50. I then found a massive puddle of oil underneath where I parked. The truck was taken to jiffy lube.

I was on the highway and the hill start assist/traction control lights started coming on. A few hundred miles later, more dash lights started flashing and then all dash lights went off and the truck lost all power. I could no longer accelerate. After a moment, it started working again. After a few more miles, it did it again, and this time when it powered down, the abs break system went on and created a terrible grinding noise and brought me to a stop on the side of the highway. I limped it on the side of the highway, trying to find an exit, and the truck repeatedly did the lights flashing/power down/breaks applied several more times at low speed. The nearest exit was about 10 miles, so I had to continue to do this for some time. Once I was at an exit, I disconnected the battery for about 20 minutes. When I re-connected the battery and started the truck, everything seemed fine, but now the check engine light was on. I decided to just risk it and keep driving, so that I could get home. About 100 miles later it started doing the same thing again. I was close enough to home to get off the highway and take back roads home. It did it a few more times and then quit doing it. This was a very dangerous situation, as my truck basically stopped while I was on the highway going 70 mph, and could have caused a serious accident, and left me no option but to either be broken down on the side of the highway or drive at very low speeds on the shoulder. The Ford dealer that I took the truck to told me that they can't replicate the issue and all diagnostics come back clean, so they are not able to fix anything. Others online that have had the same/similar issue have said that Ford said that it is a damaged throttle body that needs to be replaced, but the dealership that I went to did not suggest that as the cause.

Engine has grinding noise for 2-3 seconds on daily initial startup and when engine is cold after sitting several hours. Dealer performed engine diagnostic and diagnosed the timing chain issue. For timing chain issues, this requires the replacement of timing chain and phasers. Dealer est cost to fix = $4000+. This has been a reported issue for this engine over the last 3+ years. Ford has refused to address on a recall, or refund customers who have already incurred this expense.

I bought 2017 F-150 platinum from levittown Ford I own it less than 1 year and have now 15,000 miles on it. My problem first started around may of 2018 it was random happening off and on I was getting a grinding noise when I started the truck only when I stared in usually first thing in the morning or if it sat for more than 6 or more hours. The problem got worse as the summer progressed I made my first appointment with stevens Ford on 07/10/2018 after being told they had a back log of several weeks and this was the earliest appointment I could get. Well I picked up the car at night and the claim they did not hear the noise yet on the receipt it says due shop over load. So I made a appointment with the dealership I bought it from and the earliest date I could get was 07/25/2018 and they were finally able to diagnose the problem being the timing chain and cams as per attached paper work. I was without my vehicle for almost one month and now after picking it up I still feel a slippage in the engine as I drive it. Now after doing extensive research I have found that the 3. 5 6 cylinder eco boost engine has had this problem dating back to 2004 and have really never fixed the problem. It usually effects the engine after the 60,000 warranty expires and I have rarely seen this occur in a truck as new as mine. I am fighting with Ford on all avenues to get my truck bought back by them because I have lost all confidence in this product.

Cold start horrible grinding noise happening for over a year, that I've determined is a stretched timing chain and commonly reported and complained about by ecoboost owners and should be addressed by Ford.
My 2011 f150 fx4 has been acting up with the transmission. This has happened multiple times and the dealer is unable to replicate it. So far they have changed all of th coil packs, reset the transmission, changed all the spark plugs in a hope that was the issue. Well it's not. The truck lunges forward with loud bangs and grinding noises. Rpm's go up and down and the truck sounds as if I downshifted from 6th gear to first. Then I can only go 40 miles an hour with high rpms. Engine lights have lit up and now a wrench. This is crazy my gauges don't work this is dangerous.
Takata recall there is a cold start noise kinda sounds like a grinding noise also have a huge power loss when ever trying to accelerate. I get codes p0016 p0017 p0299 . I have changed all came and crank sensors.
Primary timing chain wear. According to TSB. 15-0044,the structure of the timing chain is inferior to the point it stretches. If it breaks, the engine will be compromised and a full re-haul of engines interior will be needed. A loud grinding noise is always heard upon startup in a "cold" start up. Several complaints on line concering Ford's below standard of material / cost of any repairs. Also mentioned is after repairs are done, same trouble returns in short period of time after repairs. Unknown the affect the timing chain will have on vehicle if it breaks in transit. Note: as far as I can tell, the issue has started as soon as vehicle purchased reaches "out of warranty" mileage status.
While driving at highway speed, I heard a pop and 'ding' sound before losing all electrical items - dash board, head lights, tail lights, brake lights, turn signals, etc. , but the engine was still operating. I then felt a grinding noise and immediately exited the highway safely to park at a gas station. I turned off and removed the key but the engine was still running. I was only a few miles from a Ford dealership. I inserted the key, turned it to the on position and tried to put the truck into gear while depressing the brake. The transmission brake release would not work. I called roadside assistance who scheduled a tow to the dealership. I had to call the dealership to figure out how to turn the engine off. They advised that I should pull the fuel pump relay fuse which did stop the engine. To date, Ford does not know what is wrong.
