6 Engine Head Gasket Leaking problem of the 1998 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/13/2006

I have a 1998 Ford f150 with a 4. 2 v6 I parked it two days. Later I went to crank it (it was lockup) I had my mechanic look at it and he said it was a big problem with the head gaskets on this model engine and Ford new about it but would do nothing about it. Its so bad my local junk yards will not even carry the 4. 2 v6 used engine because of the leaking head gasket I am on a fix income and can't afford to fix my truck that I though would last several years.

7 Engine Head Gasket Leaking problem of the 2000 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 12/19/2005

I bought a 2000 Ford F-150 with the 4. 2l v6 engine and I now have to replace the engine because of a defect that Ford is aware of I have done a lot of research on this issue and have found thousands of other 4. 2l v6 owners that have the same problem and Ford will not do anything about it I have asked Ford for help in the replacement of the engine. I was given excuses and told to go away and buy a new engine. I tried to make a formal complaint to Ford but I was told that it would be brought to their attention with no paperwork filled out. I am very upset with the way a loyal customer of Ford is being treated. I now have to replace the engine but cannot afford to. There is a defective seal or gasket that leaks antifreeze into the engine and causes pistons to break rod to be pushed out of the engine and several other interior engine parts to break. Ford motor company will not replace the engine even though it is a defect on their behalf not the buyer. Ford does not tell new customers about the problem and continue to sell the vehicles knowing that the engine is defective. All I would like is for Ford to take responsibility for their engine and replace it with a different engine or make sure that the new engine will not cause the same problem.

Also later in this form I don't know what oem is.

9 Engine Head Gasket Leaking problem of the 1998 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 12/18/2005

I am one of many owners of the Ford F-150 4. 2 engine trucks (ours is a 1998) that has encountered engine failure resulting the replacement of the engine due to leaking head gasket. It appears from information gathered from numerous websites and from speaking to others that this is a very obvious and common issue that Ford has chosen to ignore. We are asking that your agency take action to help initiate a class-action suit or some how force Ford to pay for these repairs.

18 Engine Head Gasket Leaking problem of the 2000 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 02/19/2004

I bought a used 2000 F-150 4x4 truck in October 2003. The vehicle had 36,000+ miles. It currently has 43,000 miles. I had the oil changed at a Ford dealership and they reported the head gasket has a severe leak. I've been told by the dealership where I purchased the vehicle that they had no record of the gasket leaking. This was not a Ford dealership. I believe the previous owner was aware of the problem and traded the vehicle. I realize this is a used vehicle and problems do arise, but this is a problem Ford motor company is aware of. See mfg. Bulletin numbers 012110, 0214, 15793. This is my third Ford truck with no problems with the previous vehicles. The question is, since Ford was aware of this problem, shouldn't they be responsible to have it repaired when there is so few miles on the truck? please respond in a timely manner. Thank you.

22 Engine Head Gasket Leaking problem of the 1999 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 01/07/2004

My 1999 F-150 5. 4 ltr 4wd started making loud ticking noise @ 39,000 miles. Took truck to burch Ford from whom I purchased vehicle & they diagnosed ticking noise as a bad cat. Cvrtr!!! they also advised me of leaking head gasket from (r)rear head and a repair cost of $3,200 w/ (12 mo. /12,ooo mi. Warranty !!! )on repair. When I picked up vehicle & started engine, the same loud ticking noise (only worse) was still there!!! burch Ford & Ford motor corp refused to even acknowledge problem or warranty their repair. While trying to get assistance, I drove vehicle bare min and aprox. 300 miles after the "repair",the engine blew # 3 spark plug out of (r) head like like a rocket & massive loss of power which nearly left me in direct path of a loaded semi truck !!!(thought I was going be crushed to death). I had truck towed back to burch Ford & they faxed me a estimate of $3,200. More to replace head (now total is $ 6,400. From the two repairs!!!) and in bold print @ bottom of est. Say's . . . . No warranty!!! vehicle needs new engine & neither the dealership or Ford motor corp are willing to ohnor their original repair,or assist in this catastrophic problem that research shows has occuring by the hundreds on 4. 6 ,5. 4 & now many v-10 engines from 1996 to 2004. . . . . . . . (8 yrs. )!!! my truck is my pride & joy & with aprox. 39,000 miles on it,my $ 40,000. 00 ride may be a total loss due to current book value & contraversial $$$$$cost of repair!!! this is my 6th Ford vehicle(all of which were paid off in full 1-2yrs. Early!!!)in the last 9 yrs. I've been a more than loyal Ford customer,. . . But with blatent dissregard for their bread & butter,(loyal Ford customers) Ford seems to be for 8 yrs. Now; grossly and w/o any remorse, far less than a loyal automobile manufacturer !!!. . . Respectfully,. . . J. L.

Truck was brought in for scheduled service and I was informed a head gasket was leaking. This is a vehicle that has been well maintained. I don't believe the engine has ever gone over 3000 rpm, cost to repair $2,200. This is absolutely ridiculous. Timing cover gasket is leaking. I have seen dozens of posts on the internet that Ford fixed this for free as a recall, but Ford denies any recall. This is a premature failure that is happening often enough for a full recall of all 97 f150 with the 4. 2liter engine.
