The vehicle engine has a rattle noise ever time its started. It concerns me that it may come apart while driving down the road. Upon checking there are other year models including the 2017 Ford f150 with the 3. 5l eco engine that has had recalls, but this vehicle doesnt.

Like many, many other owners of the 3. 5l v6 ecoboost f150 I'm experiencing a rattle noise when I start my vehicle. The noise only occurs when the vehicle starts, and only lasts for a few seconds. Online research leads me to believe it's related to the timing chain and timing chain components. At just 41k miles, I'm barely past the factory warranty period and will likely be forced to pay upwards of $4,000 for repairs. Here is a link to a youtube video that captures the same noise/issue I'm experiencing: https://youtu. Be/bvs16u_uxmw.
My truck on multiple occasions was driving than immediately lost power and shut off after sending it to the dealership and them replacing the throttle body it was still doing this with a rattle noise. It got to the point where my truck at 52,000 miles did this exact thing again and blew white smoke and a hole now is in the oil pan.

2019 F-150 - 3. 5l ecoboost, on a cold start there is a ticking-tapping or rattle noise.
Timming chain making rattling sound on startup, the issue has been reported to Ford motor company for the years 2011-2015 an d yet the Ford company refuses to make a recall. The cost of replacement is between 1,900. 00 and 2,900. 00 dollars. That is alot for the cosummer to deal out for something the Ford company should be responsiable for. Tbs servoce bullentin 18-2305. This all happens at start up and continually gets worst if not fixed.

There is a ticking rattle sound from the top of the engine area. The sound is noticeably louder after starting then the volume drops a level, but still steady sound there after, moving or not.
I am having trouble with my eco boost because when I start my truck I have a loud rattling sound then my truck loses power and shakes alot like a compression leak.
Engine rattling noise when accelerating at around 1500-2000 rpm and decelerating at around 800-1000 rpm.
I have been hearing rattling noise most every time I start my truck for quite some time and had suspected it to be a timing chain issue after researching this on line and finding numerous others having the same problem. However, when I took it in, the repair shop couldn't find an error code. Until this past week when my check engine light finally appeared. Now it is in the shop getting the timing chains replaced at a proposed cost of $3,400! I, like many many others, believe this is a recall issue though Ford seems to be ignoring it. After losing a transmission earlier this year due to an official recall issue (output speed sensor (oss) failure that resulted in sudden downshifting to 1st gear at high speeds, which cost me over $7,000. , I now face another $3,400 in costs due to another flawed component in my 2011 Ford f150. Looks like I will be paying for my truck a couple times! Ford should step up on this! I'd get rid of this truck if I could.

First complaint on August 21/19. To hagerstown Ford dealership that this truck does not operate correctly! the hardshift cluck, using oil 1qt low at 2400 miles, warping dash, rattling sounds bad. (like values rattling) my door latches freeze. . I have now as of 12/23/19 have added a total of 5qts of oil to this truck with only just over 5000 miles on it. You can smell burned oil coming from under the hood and exhaust. I have several video documentation to my statement! I spoke with larry when the truck was dropped off in November to have dash replaced for a week,to call me and tell me they didn't have the correct dash? I have contacted larry in regards to this vechile oil use is unreal!!! no new vechile goes through oil like this! I am told to keep adding oil. . Why are you not covering the oil, it's under warranty? this truck is by far the worst vechile I have ever owned!!!!! I feel I'm getting the run around n if something isn't resolve soon I will take further action. So I've also been advise that the oil backflow that's burning out the exhaust the filters will have oil consumption through them as well!! did I get a lemon! I think so!.
Truck has 110,000 and requires engine replacement. Engine made rattle noise upon cold start up due to timing chain stretch. Cam shaft has broken off.
On September 15, 2018 I purchased a new 2018 Ford f150 5. 0 v8. On 02/16/2019 (4,546 miles) after the first oil change it began making a knocking like noise. Ford said it was normal, but the knock wasn't there before the oil change. Ford tried to say it was the direct injection making the noise. Which might be true but other owners have reported the knocking noises and have had scored cylinders that required the engine blocks to be replaced by Ford. Also on 07/04/2019 (10,416 miles) I noticed that the engine was making a rattling noise when cold from 1200-2000 rpm. After researching this noise, I discovered that there is a TSB for the rattling noise. On 07/16/2019 I took my truck back to the dealer (friendly Ford in las vegas) and the TSB was preformed on the truck (TSB# 18-2354) the TSB did not fix the issue. On 10/23/2019 (12,600 miles) I took my truck to team Ford in las vegas. The service department stated that Ford told them the issue was normal operating characteristics. If either of these noises were normal, then it would have made them when it was brand new. These problems have been brought up to Ford by numerous owners of f150's and mustangs with the same engine. Ford refuses to fix anything and just says the issues are normal. Since Ford inssued a TSB for the rattle issue and replaced engine blocks for the knocking it tells me Ford knows these are issues and they are not normal without NHTSA or ftc intervention Ford may not fix these problems under warranty. . My new 2019 Ford f150 has a knocking noise in the motor that can be heard 25 feet from the vehicle. The transmission has a constant whining noise continually upon any acceleration. Both while stationary, on city streets or highway!.

Tl the contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. While driving 75 mph, a rattling noise was detected and the vehicle vibrated violently while decreasing in speed. The downhill descent control active warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to summerville Ford (9700 dorchester rd, summerville, SC 29485, (877) 477-1434) where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced and reprogrammed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.
My check engine light came on, code scanned was p0016. The code scanner states it's an issue with the timing chain loosening over time. The truck has a very prominent rattle sound for about 2-3 seconds upon an initial start up in the cold weather. The other day I went to pass someone, and lost power in the engine and my truck would not accelerate past the car. Ford is aware of the issue, as people all over the country and canada are having the same issue with 2011-2012 Ford f150 with the ecoboost engine. To me this seems like an obvious safety issue that Ford should take care of. Seems like an engineering flaw to me. The timing chain coming loose, and engine rattling like it's coming apart has to be causing damage as time goes on. The problem I had while trying to pass the car was on a lane 55mph road.
5. 0 has a distinct rattling noise at lower rpm's. The engine also has a loud knocking noise which is different from the rattling noise. I have experienced the gas pedal temporarily sticking and the engine has a miss. Also way down on fuel economy at 11mpg's. This vehicle is 3 months old and dealership says and (Ford corporate supports dealership) that I have to pay out of pocket for any engine diagnostics regarding my 5. 0 engine problems.
Vehicle is a 2018 F-150 with the 5. 0 v-8. When the engine is first started after a long period, it will exhibit an engine rattle noise when letting of the gas pedal between 1500 rpm to 800 rpm and sometimes when slowly accelerating. Once the engine gets to operating temp, the noise goes away. The truck must be in gear and under load, it does not happen when in park or neutral. The truck has been taken back to the dealership to have TSB 18-2354 preformed with no success.
Tl the contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. While driving various speeds and changing gears, a high pitched whining sound was present. Also, while driving and releasing the accelerator pedal, a rattling sound was present coming from the engine. In addition, water leaked into the cabin due to a faulty vent. The vehicle was taken to hassett Ford (3530 sunrise hwy, wantagh, NY 11793), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 60.
There is an abnormal engine "rattle" noise when decelerating (letting off throttle) between 1000 and 2000 rpms. This has been a frequent complaint from 2018 Ford F-150 owners with v8 5. 0l engines. Responses from f150 owners on various forums all indicate various explanations from Ford as to the cause from normal engine characteristics, replacing cam phasers, replacing solenoids, and buybacks. A TSB was released in November 2018 with no known cases on any related forums of the TSB correcting the abnormal engine rattle noise. I have hjad the TSB performed and the noise was continued to be present. The concern from myself and other owners is the unknown long term effects on the engine performance and/or life and a continued lack of response from Ford as to the cause or release of any fixes. The issue has been present since 1 week after purchasing the truck on November 21, 2018.
The time chain skips a tooth. I have been having issues with this leading to injectors and constant misfires. I was driving when all of the sudden the car started loosing power and a rattling noise started.

The morning after I bought my truck in November. I went too start it on a cold morning and noticed a rattling noise coming from engine. Only does it when engine is cold. I've been told it is my timing chain. And the dealer wouldn't fix it since there was no warranty.
The timing chain in the engine gets prematurely stretched and requires replacement so timing chain failure does not occur. I had the chain replaced in Jan 2017 completely and the issue was supposed to be completely resolved. 1 year later the same issue is back and the chain needs to be replaced again. It is a loud rattling noise that occurs on start up and can cause complete engine failure. Several hundreds of complaints can be found about this well known issue. Ford refuses to acknowledge it. The early model 3. 5l ecoboost engines are causing the stretching of the timing chain and a recall needs to be placed on them to ensure customer safety.

The truck is making a severe rattling noise upon start up, which caused check engine light to come one. Codes are saying its timing chain related. Truck will loose power while driving, you can't push accelerator down without it stalling out or without it missing real bad and jerking. Had truck worked on previously by Ford dealer for the missing and acceleration issues. Dealer said it was a coil pack and changed it out and plugs and wires. Here I am within 10,000 miles later and its worst than ever. There is something seriously wrong with these ecoboost engines and timing chain issues. Absolutely no reason that a $40,000+ vehicle can't make it past 70,000 miles without having timing chain issues! extremely disappointed in Ford and the way they are handling this issue. Zero assistance or help. Next step after this official complaint will be a law suit.
Upon cold startup my truck makes a terrible rattling noise for 2-5 seconds. Their is a current TSB out to fix this issue from Ford to replace primary chain and all 4 phasers. This only gets fixed under new vehicle limited warranty, which my truck is out of. Ford acknowledges there is a problem, but unwilling to issue a recall and fix this issue for the many people it is affecting.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle made an abnormal rattling noise, which was a distraction. The vehicle was driven to Ford Lincoln of franklin (1129 murfreesboro rd, franklin, TN 37064, (615) 800-6500) where it was diagnosed that new cam phasers and a timing chain kit needed to be installed. The vehicle was scheduled to be repaired today. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and transferred the contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was 53,000.
Recognized pattern failure. Excessive timing chain stretch on 2011 Ford F-150 XLT with 3. 5l ecoboost motor. Tapping and rattling noise from the top front of the engine when first started, lasting for approximately 3 seconds. Vehicle well maintained and driven in normal fashion on paved highways. Odomoter ~86k miles. The owner contends timing chains in properly-maintained and normally-driven vehicles should typically last the lifetime of the vehicle (or thereabouts) unless a defect exists. The customer has discovered (unverified) that Ford motor company has revised the specifications for the timing chain mechanism on this motor in more recent model years, with redesigned chain and guides and updated part numbers. There is a risk of catastrophic engine failure at highway speeds leading to a substantial safety hazard with the vehicle no longer drivable. Ford has acknowledged the problem three times with TSB 14-0194, TSB 15-0131, and TSB 16-0027, but has failed to initiate a voluntary remedy outside of warranty coverage. Premature timing chain wear appears to be an increasing and ongoing problem on later model gasoline turbocharged direct injection (gtdi) engines. The customer raised the issue with both a local Ford dealership and with Ford motor company headquarters to no avail. Repair cost $2634. 44 at Ford dealership. This apparent defect yields continuing and substantial profits for the manufacturer.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford F-150. While driving at unknown speeds, there was an abnormal rattling noise while the accelerator pedal was applied. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer (northstar Ford located at 1420 miller trunk hwy duluth, mn 55811 217-727-3673) where it was diagnosed that the accelerator assembly (part number: 7l1v-3c247 b), valve assembly (part number: 7l1z9h465 b), and wheel hub assembly (part number: 9l3z1104) needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures, but did not offer any assistance. The failure mileage was 61,250.

The vehicle was purchased used from a dealership with 95,000 miles. At 115,000 miles the vehicle exhibited a rattling sound at startup and was taken to a mechanic. The mechanic noted the problem was with the tming chain and Ford had issued TSB 14-0194. He advised it should be addressed by a Ford dealer. The Ford dealer inspected and agreed with the diagnosis, primary timing chain wear, and provided an estimate of $2,200 for the repairs. Shocked by the need for a major engine repair at this mileage, a complaint was issued to Ford corp. They responded through the dealership offering nothing. The dealership's service consultant noted the vehicles service records indicate the timing chain had already been replaced under warranty. Further research indicates this is a common and recurring problem for this model year. I expect a recall to be issued.
On April 5, 2016, while driving my 2008, f150, triton, 4. 6, about 45 mph, on a two lane, back country road, a sudden rattling and popping noise occurred. I immediately pulled over, popped the hood, whereas smoke and the rattling noise continued. I turned off the engine and had the vehicle towed to the Ford dealership 5 miles away. I have 113,600 miles on my vehicle and purchased it from a carmax dealer in December 2013, with 81,160 miles, having experienced (no problems thus far). I was told by the Ford dealership that my #3 sparkplug had caused the mechanical issue and all plugs needed replacing. Additionally replacement of right side engine issues resulted from not having done the 100000 mile tune up (bull). It had been tuned up previous to being sold. After using choice words towards the dealer and advising him of my ownership of 3, larger v8 engines, no sparkplug explosions had ever occurred in my life. All my former vehicles with the exception of my 2008 f150 had never experience such sparkplug explosion issues and these vehicles reached close and over 200,000 miles. My vehicle is still under warranty but does not cover this issue, nor was the Ford manufacture helpful in assisting with this matter. The total cost for repairs is $1295. 00, and my fight with Ford has just begun.

When cold starting the eco boost engine a loud rattling noise can be heard for several seconds. . . Ford service stated that the noise is timing chain stretch and stated that over time this will cause the check engine light and could destroy the engine. . . The check engine light will come on indicating the engine is out of time. If the timing chain should slip or break it would cause the engine to be destroyed which would be a safety hazard. . . .
I purchased this 2012 Ford F-150 brand new!!! I am a die hard Ford fan, and have never bought something new, so after many old preowned Ford trucks, I bought a new F-150. Under both the 36,000 miles and 3 year bumper to bumper warranty, it would rattle, shake, and tick a lot, a whole lot! it would also make a loud rattling noise during a cold start, or between 1800-2000 rpm. After doing my homework, this 3. 5 liter engine (ecoboost) has timing chain issues and the timing chain has been known for pre-mature stretch. I found 4 other testimonials of the same exact issue with the timing chain. It gets better, the other people were also told the same thing after bringing it to their Ford dealer for repair. They said "Ford is aware of the issue, but it would not affect long term operation of the vehicle, and Ford deems it acceptable; no repair necessary". . . . . . . . . Wow!!!!!! after spending almost 40k on my first new truck. I then went to call Ford cooperate where I climbed up the ladder of 3 different managers, each of higher ranking, and the wrote the highest customer service official a letter, only to be told no, nothing could be done.
