36 Engine Stall problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 07/05/2016

Second time engine stalled while driving in less than 2 weeks!!! 2016 Ford F-150 XLT 2. 7l eco-boost model. This is the second time the engine has stalled and shut off during driving! not even 3,600 miles on it yet. Typical stop and go traffic during rush hour. Went to accelerate after rolling along with traffic (<10 mph) and nothing happens. Tachometer stays at around 500 rpm and does not go anywhere. Since this was the second time this has happen within the last 2 weeks so I wasn't too surprised this time around. I put it in neutral and shut off ignition and try cranking it. Rpms would barely stutter around 400-500 rpm and would not stay on. Tried a few more attempts while still rolling in neutral. I had to brake to a stop, put it in park, and had attempted to crank it several more times until it finally started up and was idling correctly around 800-900 rpm. This is definitely a safety issue and should be investigated immediately. Dealer says oem has known issue with throttle body causing Ford vehicles to stall while driving. Unfortunately, dealer says my VIN is not part of vehicle models affected by this issue. Obviously it is happening to the 2016 f150s. Both of my incidents did not throw a code so there seems to be nothing dealer can do to fix the problem for the moment. I do not want to keep driving this vehicle with this defective part and unsafe condition, especially with my infant son in the rear cab.

37 Engine Stall problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/06/2016

The throttle body failed while traveling on I-94 in a single lane construction zone during a severe rainstorm. The throttle body is a part that controls the air intake on the engine and when it fails the engine loses power and cannot pull a trailer. The engine does not stall, but it does shudder enough to shake the vehicle. I turned the vehicle off and upon restart could move out of traffic. This occurred two more times till I could make it to a dealership. This is a known problem and the part is backordered due to demand. When this part fails it could put the driver and other vehicles in a life situation as I was without an area to pull off and semis on the road with poor visibility. I have been waiting at a dealership for 3 days for the part stuck in my trailer and no known timeframe for when the part will arrive. Learned this morning that the part was shipping was canada, but no delivery timeframe.

38 Engine Stall problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/03/2016

Windshield cowl panels leak rain water into top of the engine where the two cowl pieces meet in the middle. I suspect looking at other 2015 and 2016 f150 models they have or will have the issue of leaking water onto the engine. Besides possible corrosion or damage to engine, this could cause the engine to stall and maybe a safety problem.

39 Engine Stall problem of the 2011 Ford F-150

40 Engine Stall problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 01/27/2016

The first time I noticed the problem was when I went to pass another vehicle. I did a hard acceleration to pass and my 2015 f150 3. 5 ecoboost engine stalled in the passing lane on a 2 lane highway. I was doing 45 mph. I immediately got back into my lane behind the vehicle I was passing. After that incident I have occasionally accelerated hard to see if the engine would stall. Sometimes it would stall and sometimes it would not. I took it back to the Ford dealer and they replaced the throttle pack but it still stalls. They are at a loss on what is causing this erratic acceleration problem. They say they have not had any service bulletins from Ford relating to this. This happened not long after I purchased the vehicle with less than 2000 miles on it. I now have 18000 miles on it and this problem has been ongoing since I bought it. The dealer and I have been waiting to see if Ford will offer a solution but so far they have done nothing.

41 Engine Stall problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 12/21/2015

My truck has over 115,000 miles on it now I drive 50,000+ miles a year. I bought the vehicle new 1st occurrence was at appx 50,000 miles I was attempting to pass on interstate the engine stalled started run rough and lost power this corrected it self after I let off the throttle in a few seconds. It did this one more time a few days later. Talked to local dealer asked about fuel filter, they said there was no filter. They recommended running fuel injector cleaner. I did this and continued to do this but engine idled rough at stop signs even in park. It finally did the same thing a third time and then again from a stop sign. I had spark plugs replaced this was at 95,000 miles this helped I did not have the stumble problem again but still idles rough. Finally 2 days ago it was going down road and wrench light came on and vehicle went into limp mode pulled over shut off and restart engine it went into normal mode no problem. I have cleaned the map sensors all three but no help. I did note map sensors are wet. I rear in one of your many complaints about this problem that it may be condensation from inter-cooler this sounds plausible. When it goes into limp it does not throw a code so no way to know what is wrong. I have spoke to my dealer no help. I have not called Ford yet. I have rear multiple (100s) of similar complaints a lot of them on your site. Will it take someone dying for you to force Ford to fix this. The truck cost over 50,000 I am still paying for it and it is unsafe. I had a Nissan with over 300,000 miles and no problems do we need to buy foreign made vehicles to get a good product? will american companies not stand behind their products? I as a tax payer bailed out Ford and gm can I not expect a quality made product in return! I guess after someone dies in a crash caused by the f150 stalling on the highway the NHTSA will finally step in an force a recall!!!.

42 Engine Stall problem of the 2011 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/26/2015

Reference 2011 Ford F-150 ecoboost: was driving on the expressway at highway speeds and slowed to about 30mph for heavy traffic. When I began to increase speed truck began to shudder and the "check engine" light came on. Started to pull toward the right shoulder from far left lane, when the engine stalled completely and had to roll without power to the shoulder. The truck/engine continued to limp to the dealer. This is the 8-9th time I've experienced this problem and the truck has left me and my kids in a dangerous situation on the interstate. To add insult to injury, each time this happened, the dealer hit me with the $100 diagnostic fee even though the truck is under warranty. All TSB's have been done and nothing has fixed the problem and actually has made matters worse by the dealer "reflashing" the truck and killing the avg. Mpg. It is well known that the issue is with the intercooler and will have future major effects on the cat converter and turbos as well as carbon issues in the rear cylinders. The truck is in the shop at this moment and I am awaiting the dealers call. Ford has done nothing to remedy this unsafe problem, that puts myself, my family and others at risk. Btw, I have replaced the coils and spark plugs 4 times since the problem started at about the 34-36k mile mark.

43 Engine Stall problem of the 2010 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/21/2015

Engine stalls out while driving. My truck stalled out on me 3 times on 10/21/15, and has happened a few times before but always on separate occasions. On the 21st, I was driving about 5-10 mph in a shopping center parking lot when my truck stalled for the first time that day. About 15-20 minutes later, my truck stalled two more times, once at about the same speed as before and once while I was switching lanes at about 40 mph. This also mean I had no power steering and almost got into 2 accidents because of the problem. After the problem occurs, an oil funnel light comes on and then I shift my truck manually into neutral and turn the key and my truck fires right back up without hesitation. I drove my truck straight to the dealership where I let them test and drive it for 2 days and they could not recreate the problem, the truck didn't throw any codes either and the dealership says its normal when the engine stalls for the oil funnel light to come on. I'm at a loss for what could be wrong with my truck and as to why this is happening. If my truck does this to me while driving on the freeway it could result in a huge accident.

44 Engine Stall problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/04/2015

Truck shudders as transmission torque converter clutch attempts to lock up in third and fifth gear at light throttle position when shifting upward. This vehicle has the 2. 7l engine with the auto stop/start feature. With this feature disabled the engine attempts to stall after stopping as if the feature is trying to override the off switch. After coming to a rolling stop and then trying to accelerate into traffic the engine will bog down and then a split second later feel as if it is going to full throttle without me depressing the throttle further. The engine speed surges when attempting to lightly accelerate and maintain speed with the flow of traffic. -Ford needs to give owners the option to turn off the auto stop/start permanently. I was not informed this feature could not be removed when I purchased this vehicle. The dealer attempted to shut it off and only succeeded in disabling the remote start feature. I will never buy another vehicle with the auto stop/start annoyance.

45 Engine Stall problem of the 2011 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/10/2015

My ecoboost engine stalled during acceleration while attempting to pass on a 2 lane road. This put me and my family in a very dangerous situation where I was in the opposing lane with no power. I have attempted to have this fixed at the dealer more than 5 times. One dealer actually put in a new sensor about 6 months ago but this has failed to fix the issue. This is a well known problem with this engine yet Ford refuses to fix it.

46 Engine Stall problem of the 2012 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 01/14/2015

Vehicle engine stalled driving at highway speed (70 mph). Engine went into safe mode. Similar problem occurred in the past (01/04/2013). Repair was performed under TSB 13-8-1 and previously under tsb12-10-19 (incident 01/04/2013). Corrective action both times was to install air deflector plate and replace catalytic converter for both occurrences. Ford says the problem only occurs on the 6 cylinder ecoboost engine after driving extended distances at prolonged highway speed. If I had been towing my RV trailer at either time, a serious accident could have occurred. My issue is that two TSB's have been issued by Ford for the same problem and the required fixes are identical but not sure if the vehicle is safe to drive anymore. I suggest Ford issue a recall for all ecoboost powered vehicles.

47 Engine Stall problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 12/08/2014

Vehicle sputtered and stalled while slowing down on freeway. After towing to dealer, dealer could only find loose battery cable. 2 days later engine stalled again while accelerating on freeway with same symptoms. Vehicle will not start and is with dealer who initially said no issues can be found. Vehicle symptoms match description of "limp mode".

48 Engine Stall problem of the 2011 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 11/19/2014

The ecoboost engine Ford introduced into the f150 (and other vehicles) in 2011 seems to be having common and widespread problems, including my vehicle. I first reported this issue to the dealer with about 30,000 miles and now again at 63,000 miles. The safety issue is revealed under any acceleration "event" such as highway merging, passing, towing etc. Under acceleration the vehicle "chokes" and will not accelerate as the driver & passengers experience the vehicle stalling, shuddering or bucking. This is often described as the vehicle going into "limp mode" operating on fewer than all cylinders. The problems appear to stem from dysfunctional intercooler operation on this twin turbo engine. There are two different scenarios described in f150 blogs. One, most common, is that the cooling of the air via the intercooler causes condensation to accumulate inside the air intake. When the driver accelerates, the increase in air volume draws the moisture into the fuel delivery system and causes the engine to misfire, which the driver experiences as an engine stall, bucking or shuddering. The second scenario reported is that there is an overheating of air into the fuel deliver system which causes early detonation of the fuel mixture in the cylinders causing roughly the same symptoms. My vehicle repairs are costing me almost $700. 00 - which would be more if I did not have an extended warranty. The dealer is replacing 6 spark plugs, 4 coil boots that have overheated and cracked, installing a new intercooler shield - none of which they are standing by as a dealer covered expense. Ford needs to be held accountable for this defective design for both consumer safety and financial reasons. Someone may be killed trying to pass or enter a highway as their vehicle suddenly looses power.

49 Engine Stall problem of the 2014 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 11/13/2014

2014 f150 ecoboost v6 - engine shudders and stalls upon rapid acceleration; issue has been addressed with "deflector shield" but this shield is already in place in my vehicle but the vehicle continues to have this issue - I feel the vehicle is unsafe but Ford offers no assistance with resolution of the issue.

50 Engine Stall problem of the 2010 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 11/07/2014

The contact owns a 2010 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving various speeds, a noise emitted from the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who replaced the inner and outer tie rods. The failure persisted after the repair was performed. In addition, the engine stalled and restarted on two separate occasions however, the dealer was unable to locate the problem. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 71. 400. Updated 7/7/cn.

51 Engine Stall problem of the 2004 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/03/2014

The contact owns a 2004 Ford F-150. While driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle shook violently without warning and the engine stalled. The engine warning indicator illuminated and the emergency brake had to be applied in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who stated that the valve fractured in the number one cylinder and destroyed the engine. The engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired and the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

52 Engine Stall problem of the 2012 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 09/20/2014

For the fourth time, my 2012 Ford f150 ecoboosted engine stalled or shuttered when hauling a load (trailer or heavy bed load) in a high humidity environment. I was pulling a u-haul trailer behind my truck and it was raining heavily. When I punched the accelerator to pass a slower vehicle, the engine stalled, sputtered, and nearly shut down. The "check engine" light came on for about a minute, then turned off once the engine had cleared what felt like condensation, and returned to normal operating mode. When I took the vehicle to the dealership to complain (for the 4th time), they told me that they were of aware of a design problem with the intercooler on 2011-2013 turbocharged vehicles, but since they could not verify the defect "code," Ford would not reimburse them for the service fix. This is clearly a safety and environmental issue as the service bulletin that Ford issued to correct the problem, requires replacement of the catalytic converter as well. Frustrated!.

58 Engine Stall problem of the 2012 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 01/24/2014

Jan 24 2014 . Morning 6:00 am. My truck stalled on the elgin ohare expressway. I was cruising 65 mph. All of a sudden my trans or engine started to stall. I noticed the indicator on the dash go from 6 gear to 2nd. Gear, my speedometer dropped to 40 then 20 mph. I took my foot off the gas, slowly cruised. Then I put my foot back on the gas and drove to work at 45 mph. Called the Ford dealer made an appointment. Drove it there after work . Left it there for two days. They could not duplicate the incident. They reformatted my digital readout on the dashboard. Deleted the numbers indicating the gear my transmission was in. Therefore they did nothing but cover their[xxx]. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

59 Engine Stall problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 01/13/2014

Ford ecoboost engine. Traveling on state highway (one lane in each direction) at about 45mpg (speed limit was 55). I attempted to pass a slower car. I depressed the accelerator and move into the oncoming traffic lane. As I came even with the slower car, the engine cut out and I was only able to maintain a speed of 40 to 45 mph. Another car pulled in right behind me to also pass the slower car at the same time. A semi trailer crested the hill and was quickly approaching. I was unable to hit the breaks and return to my lane of traffic because the second passing car was accelerating quickly behind me and I was unable to accelerate at all because the engine was stalling. The second passing car realized something was wrong and hit the breaks allowing me to also slide back in line as the semi shifted onto the shoulder in his lane. We went three-wide on a two lane highway at highway speeds. After about a minute, the engine warning lights went out on the dash, the engine kicked back in. I was able to safely pass the slower car and traveled home. I took the truck to the local dealer for evaluation and they told me this is known to happen during rainy weather. Weather at time of incident, partly cloudy, around 4:30 in the afternoon. This is the third time my engine has cut out on me during acceleration. This is the only time to nearly wrap up four vehicles in a nasty wreck.

60 Engine Stall problem of the 2011 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 12/21/2013

The engine stalled (severer loss of power) as I tried to overtake/pass another vehicle. This has happened numeous times & typically occurs during humid/raining weather. I have taken the truck to the dealership several times but they have yet to resolve the issue. It is my understanding that Ford is very aware of the problem and has issued several technical service bulletins but, the problem still exist. Ford should be held responsible for this safety issue & forced to recall and repair these trucks before someone is seriously injured or killed.

65 Engine Stall problem of the 2008 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/12/2013

Purchased used 2008 Ford F-150 5. 4l v8 gasoline truck a couple of years ago. Last year the truck started to sound like a diesel once the engine warmed up. The cam phaser sensors were replaced. This did not fix the problem. Next we will have a cam phaser lock out system installed. The mechanic says that 50% of the time it fixes the problem but the other 50% requires a brand new engine. Also, keystone is the only engine that my mechanic will use for the replacement due to the original manufacturer having this problem with 2004 to 2008 model years. All searches online and discussions with various people (friends, family, Ford dealership mechanics, public forums) have found this to be a common problem that can cost up $7,000 to fix yet Ford has not recalled the engine or offered to modify the engine by installing the lock out kit. Now the truck hasn't been driven more than a couple of miles in the last year so the engine is not destroyed. The most common course of the break down in the engine is as follows: cam sensor fail, cam phasers break if not locked out, fragments of the phaser gets into the oil causing the engine to be destroyed.
