I was going down highway 111 in rancho mirage, CA when a drunk driver ran a red light. I slammed into her drivers side door head on 1989 Ford crown victoria with my 2001 Ford F-150 crew cab traveling at approximately 35 to 45 mph. Neither passenger or the drivers air bags worked. My fiancee and I both suffered injuries that I beleive could have been avoided had the air bags worked. As a result of this accident my new truck was considered a total loss.

Run head-on into the corner of a brick wall. Front-end of truck destroyed. Point of impact was driver-side-center. No airbag deployment.
I hit a ditch- the airbag only deployed one fourth of the way--the bag instantly caught fire. Had I been in a wreck, the airbag would not have saved my life. Had I been knocked unconscious, I would have burned alive. I feel that this problem should be looked inton as lives could be lost.

This vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with a Ford explorer on the evening of Friday. March 23rd 2001. I was travelling at 35- 40 mph. The collision destroyed both vehicles. Airbag on my Ford f150 did not deploy. Manufacturer has been contacted (Ford) but was not interested in examining the vehicle to determine why the srs did not work.

While traveling at 30 mph vehicle ran over a small pot and both air bags inadvertently deployed. Dealer / manufacturer were notified, and unwilling to assist in this matter. Please feel free to provide any further details on this issue.
After the air bags deployed they caught on fire and had 6 to 8 inch flames coming out and up toward my face. The service manager contacted Ford and I was told there was no fault brcause they deployed and only my hand got burned when I put it out but the air bag and the fire were right in front of me , I was told the airbag catching on fire was an acceptable risk and not a defect. Acceptable by whose standard? being burnt is better than being dead but being alive and not burnt and not dead is what I expected.

Travis was hit from the rear and knocked into another truck totaling out all three trucks in the wreck, our air bags didn't go off this causing travis to hit his head,cutting it requiring stitches on the inside and outside of his forehead,if the air bag had of went off this could have been prevented,we have replaced this vechicle with another 97 Ford,making us have a total of 2 1997 Ford are the air bags safe in these trucks,next time it could be fatal not just scared for life.
