While driving on a smooth paved road the straps which attach the fuel tank to the vehicle failed, causing the tank to fall to the road. The tank was still attached to the vehicle by the fuel inlet line, causing the tank to be drug for approximately 50 ft before the vehicle was stopped.

The consumer stated while traveling at 5 mph in 2000 Ford f150 the gas tank fell off the truck. The whole gas tank, lines and sensor fell right off the truck. The truck has been taken to a dealership for repairs. The consumer called Ford, and Ford stated, that they could not help out. The consumer said that everything was fine with the truck before this. The tank was completely full of fuel at the time.
The consumer received recall 05v266000 on 6/25/05. Concerning fuel system. There was a potential fire hazard, the consumer called the dealership on 6/29, and they stated they did not have the parts, and they didn't know when they will receive the parts. They told the consumer to keep calling. The consumer called Ford and reported the problem on 6/30/05. A reprensative told owner that there was nothing Ford could do to get parts any faster. When the owner asked who would be responsible if the truck caught on fire, the representative reported that it would be his insurance company that had to pay. Owner felt that this was irresponsible on Ford's part.

Dual gas tanks. Gas is pressurized from rear tank to the front tank. Causing a fuel transfer to the front tank, front tank is overfilling, gas is under pressure, spilling from the overflow. When the cap is removed, gas explodes from the filler neck.

On Monday August 11, 2003 I noticed a strong odor of gasoline on my 1998 Ford F-150 pickup. I found that gasoline was running along the driver side frame and leaking rather heavily onto the payment. I immediately drove to a nearby automotive service center for examination. I was subsequently advised that the fuel line had a crack and was the cause for the leaking fuel. According to the service technican the crack appeared to be unknown including any damage. I had extended warranty insurance with geico for the $277. 87 replacement line. Since I had a $250. 00 deductible, the cost was mostly borne by me. The owner of the service center, said he never had a cracked fuel line in all his years of automotive service. I also in my 50 years of owning vehicles have never experienced such a incident. My biggest concern was the extraordinary danger this type of leak could cause a motorist, with gasoline leaking on to the payment. Obviously a discarded cigaret or other ignition could have caused a serious fire and perhaps injury or death. I would like to know if this is something you are interested? I plan to write Ford, but in the interest of public safety, I thought you might like to know about my experience. Sincerely, john waters.

Fuel line that runs from firewall to throttle body seems to be deteriorating near driver side manifold. Unknown cause possible heat.
I own a 1992 Ford f250 and a 96 Ford f150. Both have dual tanks. On both vehicles the front fuel gauge has stopped functioning and when using the rear tank it tranfers fuel to the front tank resulting in fuel spilling out. With the guages not functioning there is no notice of when the front tank is overfilling. This is a fire hazard as well as an environmental issue. I have spoke to the customer relations person at our local Ford dealer and was told that it was not a dealer issue. I have inserted an incident, however the problem is a recurring problem.
Had received recall 00v231 in mail. Contacted dealer & took vehicle on appointment given. Prior to recall vehicle had a strong smell of fuel while driving. Mechanic checked vehicle & could not find anything wrong with fuel lines or smell fuel. Owner not happy & truly upset. Not driving vehicle due to odor of fuel.
Consumer thinks recall repair oov-231 took too long to repair and dealer lied about time the vehicle was ready on the invoice. Nlm.
While I was driving my F-150 truck on highway s-22, west of borrego springs, California, the truck caught fire. I pulled over to the edge of the road and got out. A tow truck driver who was driving behind me put out flames in the cab with a fire extinguisher. Then the cab bursed into flames and he pulled me away from the truck and called the police and fire department on his radio. Though the truck was turned off the fire continued and enveloped the truck in flames, despite the water pumped onto it from the fire truck. I learned there was a recall for F-150 trucks for a defective fuel line that could (no doubt has) cause fires. Ford motor company claimed that the recall did not include my truck because it was made in wayne and only F-150's built in norfolk and kansas city were involved. Yet my truck burned to a shell. It seems obvious that the fire was sucking fuel from the tank even though I had shut off the engine, obvious that the leaking fuel had ignited under the hood and the fire got well-advanced before I was even aware of it and was too big to be put out by a hand-held extinguisher. Ford has denied any responsibility for this disaster to me. They clame the case is closed. I reopened my case against Ford in December, 2003 because I learned of computer websites dedicated to accidents caused by defects in manufacture of vehicles.

Fuel lines were leaking behind engine. There was a gas smell. It was discovered the gas lines were installed between the frame and the bed of the truck. The hole eventually was created by the friction.
