1. I am not alone in a complaint about the fuel canister being a problem on the f150- I have complained about this twice now- others in the forum are doing the same. The vapor canister in the engine compartment becomes faulty and the engines stall or runs rough- when it stalls, it is impossible to steer. I grew up without power steering- 97$ out of pocket- dealer couldn't figure it out- had another mechanic diagnose and repair. It's a simple fix- yet can be dangerous if someone with strong arm strength cannot turn the vehicle or use the breaks. This has to be looked at. ! I should have been reimbursed! waiting for someone to get killed is inexcusable- happened with just 35k miles on truck. 2. Seems Ford has a mega defect with bad design on their f150 power rear windows with the heat grids going bad- this happened at maybe the same time, and unless I spend 1000 dollars, I have no rear-window defogging- this was nearly a 50k vehicle, and just started to fall apart after the warranty. This is a bad design- if ice and all in the south, many do not have the preparations for this (I grew up in the north). I still can't defrost my rear window), but have a scraper 3. High mount brake light- seems, Ford refuses to fix a bad design for faulty high mount third brake light- cheap gasket will fade, and many of use (myself recently) have problems with water dripping inside the cab- 100 plus bucks for a new one? can't even buy the gasket?? and let's add to the fact the lights are so badly designed, they collect grime/crap and just look like yup. (biggest concern is ruining the interior with water- I had a lot of wet recently- f150 forum is plastered with these problems. The fuel canister making the vesicle stall is dangerous. And I feel Ford should address this. (they don't seem to care about improving the other issues in 2018. Shame- no quality!~.

Vehicle once when first bought shut down during rain conditions when trying to excel. It was like you ran into a wall. Ford then said it was a wiring harness problem. It continued missing at times over the last two years. The same thing happened again in December while trying to pass a vehicle and it was again during rain conditions and just shut down in the road. We took it into the dealership and they said it was TSB 13 8 1 and made repairs. Vehicle now does not run right and gas mileage has dropped by at lest 2. 5 mpg. Noticeable power loss. Vehicle is the Ford 3. 5 echo boost. This is a big problem for consumers who want a truck and expect power with good mpg but should not be afraid to drive or get a supposed fix that's not what you have purchased. These situations will result into some very bad accidents. I cant imagine pulling something and this happens. Bottom line consumers deserve safe reliable vehicles. We love Fords and I hate I am having to complain but this is a real big problem. Please investigate. Thanks!!!!.

2011 Ford f150 equipped with 3. 5l turbo charged engine traveling at 65 mph began misfiring and suddenly experienced a near total loss of power, causing the vehicle to slow to 25 mph quickly. The vehicle was traveling on a two lane highway with no shoulder and no place to pull off the road. This incident did not pose an immediate threat to car or driver, but under other conditions such as overtaking (passing) slower traffic, the sudden and near total loss of power could be disastrous. After quick research and consultation with the Ford service center where I purchased the truck, I have learned the vehicle entered into "limp" mode to protect itself from mechanical damage. I have also found that this problem has long been acknowledged by Ford motor company and has been the subject of a few technical service bulletins. Also to the best of my knowledge, Ford, through this series of technical service bulletin's has failed to provide a permanent solution to this problem. I am filing this complaint in hopes that the NHTSA in cooperation with Ford motor company can provide a quick and permanent solution to this problem before someone is seriously injured or worse due to an engineering flaw on a motor vehicle.
I was driving northbound on I-95 when the driver of an adjacent vehicle alerted me that there was fire shooting out from the area of the fuel filler door. I immediately pulled over onto the highway median and jumped out. The truck was engulfed in flames, and the cab was on fire. I burned myself on the melting steering wheel and was singed by melting plastic.

I was merging onto the highway while it was raining. In attempting to accelerate to merge in front of a semi my vehicle stated shuttering violently and lost power. I could not get past 40mph. The check engine light was flashing. This was after the truck had been running for two hours. The semi almost rear ended me as I got off the road as soon as possible. I shut the truck off and restarted the engine and it ran fine after that. I took the truck back to my dealer the next day and they could find nothing wrong, not even an error code. The truck has a Ford 6 cylinder eco boost engine.
I was on a trip from oklahoma to florida. I stopped for gas in louisiana. When I got on to the on ramp to return to the interstate I floored the gas pedal to get in front of a semi truck, and it lost all power almost being hit by semi truck. After my trip I took my pickup truck to my Ford dealer to have it checked out. They told me they can not find anything wrong with it. This is a very dangerous problem that needs to be fixed. Me and my wife could have been killed if the semi truck did not have room to move over to miss us.

I was on a highway going 65 mph, the conditions were drizzle/very humid, roughly 90 degrees outside. There was a slow car in front of me so I got in the on coming traffics lane to pass the car, but when I stomped on the gas pedal there was no response. My truck wouldn't accelerate so I pushed it a few more times and still nothing. There was a car coming and I almost got hit head on because of this incident and probably would've been badly injured had I not gotten back in my lane just before the car passed. The engine returned to normal after about 20 seconds and I was able to accelerate and finally get around the car. This is only 1 of the 5 times it has happened in this specific vehicle, its happened to me three times, and twice when I've loaned the truck to my father. It only happens in humid or rainy conditions and I'm guessing has something to do with the intercooler. But I'm not an auto guy so I wouldn't know. I called Ford corporate and they said go to the dealer, the dealer didn't see any codes that were thrown during these incidents so they said they could not help me. It was [xxx], and Ford needs to step up and help us who have defected ecoboost engines. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
We were returning from arkansas in our f150 with the ecoboost engine in rain/heavy mist. We were on the interstate for a long period of time and when I went to pass a slower vehicle the truck just shook and wouldn't accelerate. It happened again 1. 5 hours later in the same conditions, truck would not accept anything beyond 3/8 throttle. This happened before when we were in the rain (coming from arkansas) with the exact same conditions (year ago). I haven't taken the truck to the dealer as from reading several places there isn't a true fix at this point. Some people are drilling holes in their intercoolers trying to drain the water that appears to be the issue.
Returning home from a weekend camping trip with my family and pulling a travel trailer via I-81 in va, I depressed the accelerator approaching a long hill, and abruptly lost all engine and drive power, the engine shuddered violently, the transmission downshifted to lower gear and the check engine light flashed a few times. We had absolutely no power and I thought the engine was going to shut off. I was in the 2nd lane from the right and had to quickly move to the right lane then to the shoulder to avoid being hit from behind. This was very dangerous while pulling a 34' travel trailer. I had to pull the vehicle to the shoulder and stop completely to regain control. I had to put the truck in park and turn it off before it returned to somewhat normal drivability. While continuing to climb the uphill grade, the engine misfired and hesitated constantly. I could only apply gently pressure to the accelerator to keep the vehicle moving. Once over the hill the vehicle picked up speed and returned to normal drivability for the remainder of the trip. The same exact problem occurred again a few months later while driving south on rt-4 in MD with my wife, and not pulling a trailer. This time I didn't shut the engine off, but had to pull to the shoulder to regain control and engine power. As I continued on rt4 the engine misfired and hesitated several more miles. Once at my destination I turned the vehicle off, then upon departure the vehicle operated more normal, but experienced misfire and hesitations several mile returning home. The next day the vehicle operated normally, but I took it to the Ford dealership to have it repaired. This is a very unsafe situation and makes me very leary driving this vehicle on a normal basis. If I was accelerating while crossing the highway and this problem happened, there is a great chance of getting into an accident or causing one.
I was pulling out into traffic when the engine wouldn't respond. Luckily it wasn't on a highway the on coming traffic had enough time to avoid me. There was no warning I thought the truck had died and went to restart but the engine was idling. I then put the truck into low transfer and was able to move to a safe place by idling until a tow truck could remove it.

3. 5l ecoboost engine. Went to merge on highway, pressed accelerator, engine stumbled, pressed further on accelerator, engine stumbled, loss of power, check engine light flashing, violent shaking when trying to accelerate to safe speed on -ramp, light went out after a period of 1 - 2 minutes. Had to pull off side of road to avoid traffic as I was unable to accelerate. This was the second incident for this truck. Ford engineering to my service department that there was no fix but they were aware of the issue.
I have a 2012 Ford F-150 with the ecoboost engine. While slowly accelerating at higher speeds (generally around 50 to 70 mph), the engine misses terribly on multiple cylinders and the truck jerks and lunges violently all while losing power and speed. It happens frequently, but most often when slowly accelerating to maintain speed up a hill or pass another vehicle. The loss of power is extremely dangerous, especially while passing other vehicles on a highway.
Towing a 9500# fifth wheel trailer on interstate complete loss of power shuddering and inability to accelerate.
While making a left hand turn across traffic I floored the gas pedal and all power was lost almost resulting in a crash. The next time was on the highway while trying to pass another vehicle total loss of power. Unable to pass almost rear ended, luckily able to get off the road. Today November 3rd 2013 9:00 am traveling 40 mph on flat ground clear sky about 45 degrees I floored it and the truck did nothing it did shake alittle and I kept my foot to the floor for about 1/2 a mile and it never regained any power. Then I smelled something burning. No check engine lights ever came on and my fuel economy get worst every day. The truck feels like something is dragging it down all the time. Poor fuel economy mixed with unreliability is going to equal disaster. Ford is lucky no one has been hurt or killed yet. The truck will be towed to the dealer in the morning I simply will not risk my life while Ford sits on there thumbs. Fix the problem before someone is hurt!!!!.
2011 f150 ecoboost at 57k miles mid July 2013 experienced violent shuddering lose of power pulling up hill at 60 mph. Engine light came on. Taken to dealership where repair was listed as #2 coil pack costed $277. Now Jan 2014 six months and 13k miles later same event. Check engine light came on twice while driving to work. Used on board diagnosic tool I had purchased and truck coded p0303 as #3 cylinder misfire obviously the #3 coil pack has gone bad at 70k miles.
On trip from louisville ky. To atlanta, GA in the rain, truck displayed the shuddering stall caused by condensation in the charged air cooler which gets ingested into engine causing motor to go into limp mode, truck has had two of the three TSB's performed as this is the seventh incident of the same problem since new. When truck goes into limp mode at highway speeds you are immediately at risk from rear end collision.
When passing and increasing speed, vehicle lost acceleration. No accident occurred but could have caused a head on or other accident.
I was driving down my street and braked to pull into my driveway, after in my driveway I touched the accelerator (to get up the slight grade) and my truck went wide open throttle!! I mashed on the brake but the truck continued to accelerate uncontrollably and crashed into my brick home. Even after impact and me continuing to apply full brake it was still wide open throttle and burning out. I finally came to my senses and shut the ignition off and the stopped it. I had the truck towed to my local dealer as recommended by Ford customer care rep. The dealership ran a diagnostics check and found nothing as well as tried to get it to duplicate the problem with no luck. I had a state trooper certified in downloading event recorder data do such to my truck. The data shows exactly what happened. . But does not differentiate between the accelerator being pushed vs. The accelerator position as indicated. However, it does show service brake applied and continual acceleration at the same time which I can prove was not done by me! I have pictures of abrasions to my right shin and knee from the steering column and dash. . My right foot was fully applied on the brake pedal causing the abrasions at impact due to being directly in line with the steering column. My left leg had zero abrasions. . . Since to the left of the steering column. If I was to be responsible for the data shown in the down load I would of had to have my left foot on the brake and thus sustaining abrasions to that leg. It is also impossible to use the right foot to brake and accelerate simultaneously to achieve the acceleration indicated. . . Ones leg has to be cocked to the side and out of line of the steering column. Everything on my pickup is oem. . . . Including the floor mats. . . Which contrary to some beliefs that could be the cause. My truck has sat at the dealership untouched since they looked at it.
Vehicle is getting way below estimated mpg. Truck is barely getting 16 mpg while the false advertisement says the truck will get 17-21 mpg. This is a brand new truck and has those far shown false advertisement in gas mileage. Along with the mpg, when in cruise control the transmission down shifts all the way down to 2nd gear while driving at 50 mpg leaving the rpms at a high rate when it down shift. There is something wrong with the way this truck down shifts in cruise control. This needs to be looked into as this is not the way a 50k plus truck should be driving or the false representation of the mpg that Ford has claimed. If I had knew the mpg would have been this bad I would have considered a different vehicle.
Traveling at 60 + / - mph and attempted to pass another vehicle under normal conditions. Engine lost power on acceleration and seemed to sputter. This is strange as the gas was not "punched" or anything outside of normal passing acceleration. Initially I thought I may be out of gas or something but this was not the case. I have noted power loss two other times but did not think anything of it as the engine returned to normal once I backed off the gas. The one difference this time is the engine made a very rough vibration which caused others in the truck to ask if I was having engine trouble.
While driving on the interstate with cruise control set approximately at 70mph, I stepped on the gas to accelerate past a vehicle. The truck did not respond but decelerated and the steering wheel began to shake. The check engine light flashed. I continued to drive and with only slight pressure to the gas to maintain speed. After approximately 5-10 seconds the vehicle regained power. The incident happened a second time, same conditions same results. The Ford dealer says its a known problem with parts back ordered. This seems unacceptable if its a know problem. Someone can get in a serious accident at highway speeds if they pulled out in fast moving traffic expecting acceleration to be there.
While passing another car the throttle would not respond with full power.
On 2 separate occasions, approximately 3 months apart while in hard acceleration attempting to merge on an interstate on-ramp, vehicle began to shudder violently and lose power. In first instance, I was able to merge in the left lane and let off the accelerator. As vehicle coasted, the shudder subsided and within 1 minute stopped all together. In the second instance, when the vehicle lost power, traffic conditions would not allow me to merge and I was forced to coast along the shoulder of the road until the shudder subsided and power was resumed. In neither situation, did the vehicle go into safe mode or the check engine light appear. Vehicle simply resumed normal operation.
I only just learned of your investigation so my memory on exact dates and mileage may be off by a few weeks. I did take my truck to the Ford dealer to report my incident so they should should have a record of this and the work they performed (baierl Ford, zelienople, PA 16063). My 2012 f150 with the 3. 5l ecoboost was about 6 months old at the time. I was passing a coal truck uphill on a 10% grade. I was not towing, nor did I have a load in the bed. He was going about 30 mph. I eased out and got along side running now at about 50-55, then 'punched' the throttle to complete the pass. That did not turn out well. The engine cut out exactly like a reverse limiter on an atv and the check engine light came on. I barely was able to complete the pass, and was 'pushed' up the hill by the coal truck, engine running in that cut-out mode all the way. Got over the top and it continued to run like this down the other side. After about 6 miles, it went back to normal and the check engine light went out. Took it to my dealer not too long after. They installed something - since it was warranty work I wasn't given the paperwork and simply don't recall what they did. Apparently there was a TSB on the problem though. I have not had a repeat in the 6 months since, although I do drive differently now, having experienced that episode. That event severely compromised my confidence in this engine. Since then I have been very adverse to passing on two lane roads and have delayed towing several times for fear this would happen again potentially creating a deadly situation.
When I'm accelerating the engine stalls, I may be leaving a stop sign climbing over an overpass or passing another slower vehicle. Seems to happen more often about 40mph to 70mph.
Traveling on the interstate, little to no uphill or downhill grade, speed approximately 55, attempted to pass a tractor-trailer. Pressed hard on the accelerator pedal, and started the pass. Halfway thru the pass, passing speed 65-70 mph, my truck lost all power and started shaking violently. I backed off the accelerator, and pulled back in behind the tractor-trailer, then off to the right shoulder. I shut the engine off, opened the hood, expecting to see something bad. No visible signs of anything wrong. Started the engine, drove the rest of the way home, with no other mis-haps. However, the same thing has happened twice more, the most recent being just a few days ago, 6-10-13. Each time this has happened, it has been during an attempt to pass a slower vehicle, during a hard acceleration. I'm typically a very conservative driver, and bought this truck with this engine for both fuel economy and power to pull a trailer. On the first and third occurrence, I was on the interstate, with traffic going the same direction. The second time it happened, I was on a slight upgrade on a 2-lane road, and attempted to pass a much slower vehicle. There was traffic coming from the other direction, but there was ample time and distance to make a safe pass, as the truck in front of me was very slow. Again, halfway thru the passing attempt, I lost power, and had to back behind the truck in front of me. Fortunately, there was sufficient room for the oncoming traffic to move over to avoid the collision. I have talked to my dealer about this, and they were going to research the issue before servicing it. However, I recently saw a report on this issue on the local news station, and realized that my problem is not unique.
Cpsc#i1290626a. 2012 Ford f150. Consumer stated there was gas fumes in the cab of the truck. The consumer stated he took the vehicle to the repair shop twice.
Ecoboost engine stutters when accelerating. Can not pass or continue driving.
I have had the stall and/or shudder problem several times. By far the worst is the date and items listed in the incident information. While attempting to pass another vehicle on a two lane highway, after driving in a steady downpour for at least an hour, my ecoboost f150 fell flat on its face. No acceleration at all. It just stalled and the check engine light came on. I let off the accelerator and tried again with no reaction from the motor. I then feathered the throttle and was able to get around the other vehicle. The truck would run as long as I didn't try to accelerate quickly. Luckily there were no oncoming vehicles in the other lane. With dryer weather the problem disappeared. Since that time I have had it shudder a few times when trying to accelerate. Mostly in damp or humid conditions.
