2 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 1995 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/31/2014

The rear shackle's were replaced in 2004,when the rear springs cracked for no apparent reason, and upon spring removal the shackle that holds the spring had holes's and very detteriated. Since the springs were replaced the truck has apprx. 65000 more miles, and with nothing in the truck box the front spring shackle/spring mount busted off completely while driving on the road. When the spring breaks loose it goes upward and slams against the gas tank filler tube/what a safety hazard. Upon checking both sides are rusted completely threw.

3 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2002 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 09/22/2014

I was driving my 2002 Ford F-150 VIN # (1ftrf17262nco7517) down the highway at 45mph when it started wheel hopping from the rear very bad, there was a school bus stopped letting children off & as I was braking it was hopping & was a near miss, this was close. I pulled the truck off the side of the road to inspect as I am mechanically inclined & retired, for the first 10 years of my life I worked in the automobile field because I had schooling for it, anyway I looked under the truck & spotted the problem right off the bat, both rear center leaf springs are broken bigger than crap. I am 54 and a die hard Ford fan and have been since the age of 16, that is all I have owned & I am thinking about switching brands because this is not the first time I have been disappointed with this truck. I am the second owner, I bought it in 10/2004 with 13,000 miles. It has never had anything over 100 pounds hauled in it and I am the only one who has driven it since I bought it. Is there any recalls for my truck on this problem? can Ford motor company do anything for me? thank you jeffrey hannan.

4 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2002 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/07/2013

The rear portion of the frame is rotten to the point that the let springs hangers are ready to break off the frame and the spare tire holder is also ready to fall off. I just replaced the rear spring shackles due to the were also rotten and broke. The gas tank straps were also a problem due to rust but Ford though enough of the problem there was a recall on that, Toyota had a problem with rusted frames and did a massive recall on that issue. Why hasn't Ford done the same thing? the frame should be the last thing one needs to worry about with any vehicle. The truck currently has 146000 miles and now we need to figure out what the next move will be with this vehicle. Repair it, junk it or trade it ?????.

6 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2011 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

Poor gas mileage. Window sticker says 23 mpg highway, best I ever got is 16 mpg, with cruise set at 65 mph on flat level highway. Had at dealer, 4 times, they updated computor, changed turbo intercooler and they still cant improve my fuel economy. Around town I get 12 mpg. Bad turbo lag when pulling out low power, dealer said its how turbos work. Doors rattle, speakers crackle, rear end springs make a creaking sound. 4 wheel drive makes a loud growling, sounds like gears are not meshed right. I would not recomend a new F-150 to any one. Nothing but trips to the dealer and let downs.

8 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 1997 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 11/11/2011

Rear spings, rear buckle rear springs were completely rusted through. Garage that repaired the items indicated that they have fixed a very large amount of Ford trucks with the same issues. This seems to be an issue that warrants some investigation. Note that the truck gasoline tanks also rusted through, failed and resulted in the tank falling out of the truck while underway. This was fixed, albiet after 3 years, by a Ford recall that was initatied this year.

9 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2010 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

At apx 10,00 miles on my 2010 f150 I started getting a clunk/bump in the driveline when stopping and starting. Sometimes it was worse when turning. I am a 20 year vetran mechanic with prior Ford dealer expierience. I have not been able to get this issue resolved by the local servicing Ford dealer vanbortel Ford. It has been in many many times for the same complaint. In the life of this vehicle it has had an engine replaced at 20,00 the torque convertor at 25,000 the driveshaft at apx 35,000 the rear springs at 37,000 and the issue still persist's. It is in now on 12/26/2012 for a trans leak, poor engine/trans performance and reduced ecomomy from reflashing the trans several times as well as the same clunk/bump when starting and stopping. My concern is that the unkown defect causing clunk/bump could cause a safety issue by locking up or failing at speed.

10 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 1996 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 07/11/2008

1996 Ford f150 4 x 4-both rear brackets connecting the leaf springs (rear of vehicle) to the frame were terrible corroded and cracked. Mechanic was fearful of failure within a month or two. Replacement parts are only available from a Ford dealership. Called local dealership and was assured parts available. Upon arrival at the dealership, not all parts available as demand had been so great they kept running out of the parts. I had to go to a different dealership to obtain the rest of the parts. The replacement parts were of significantly heavier build than original parts. Have since been informed by my mechanic and others that mid 90s Ford 150s and explorers are losing the brackets en masse. I consider this a significant safety issue as an important chasis component is more than likely to fail. These older trucks are now being handed down to high school kids. A failure at highway speeds will surely lead to inexperienced drivers panicking and over correcting at the time of failure. There was no accident, but based on the demand at a single dealership (I was told at the parts department that they had received 12 request for the very same part in one day. All requests were for either 1996 f150s or 1996 explorers). I consider that statistically significant and wished to bring it to your attention. Thank you.
