Failure Date: 08/02/2004

I own a 2004 Ford f250 diesel crew cab 4x4. We have the lariet package along with the camper and off road packages. Current miles are 3600. Ehaven't towed anything behind this new truck yet. On Sunday Aug. 1,2004, my wife was driving and noticed that the transmission would not shift into overdrive. The tow/haul light on the dash was flashing. I took the truck to mike davidson Ford the next morning Aug. 2,2004. They dropped the pan off the transmission and found metal shavings along with a bad sensor. The truck is still in the shop. I wanted to know if other new Ford trucks equiped the same way were having simular problems. The dealership said this was a rare condition for this type vehicle.

2001 Ford pickup f250 super-duty 7. 3l dieselv8 turbo VIN:f / transmision part / second gear and clutch. This part breaks at no fault of owner yet manufacturer does not take responsability for part. They have replaced the part in all 2002 and up transmisions but the 2000 and 2001 models have the parts prone to break premature. My second gear broke at 40,000 miles 4,000 miles past my warranty. 45 Automatic Transmission problem of the 1999 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 05/23/2003

My 1999 f250 crew cab diesel's transmission spewed transmission fluid three times. The first and second times I had a Ford dealership's mechanics fix the seal at a cost of around $900. The third time I had a private transmission shop fix it correctly for $2,200. Apparently the transmission seal has 2/1000s of an inch clearance and when overheated it blows. The transmission shop owner listed other defects with Ford's transmissions from 1999-2002 also. He said Ford has remedied the problem of its newer models. I don't know why I had to pay almost $4,000 for a faulty designed transmission. My $1,500 extended warranty (national warranty) didn't even pay for any expenses due to its bankruptcy and it being incorporated in the caymen islands. Am I the only 1999 f250 owner with transmission problems?.

46 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2000 Ford F-250

I have replaced the transmission 3 times since I bought the vehicle in March of 2000. Now it is out of warranty and needs another transmission the last transmission was put in(October 2002)they said they would warranty the transmission for one year but now they don't want to do it because it has an after market suspension lift and bigger tires (it's been on there since they put the first transmission in and they performed warranty work on it then).

47 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2003 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 04/21/2003

My 2003 f250 Ford will move forward when you start the engine and the automatic transmission is in park. It does not do this every time but it has done it around ten times since we purchased it. The truck will move forward , sometimes about four to six inches. There is no way of telling when it will do this. I have just returned from the dealership and they said Ford told them this is a normal characteristic of this vehicle.

48 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2002 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 03/04/2003

I have a 2002 f250 super duty. When I come to a full stop, and then take off there is a feeling that something is slack in the drive train somewhere. You can feel a double bump kinda of feeling. When towing a trailer it is worse. The Ford dealer said some trucks do this and some do not, but they can not find the problem, which I believe they think it is a normal function.

49 Automatic Transmission problem of the 1999 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 02/01/2003

When parked in my driveway, which is not steep at between 7-8% slope, on light snow or ice my truck will roll backward. While rolling, one rear wheel will be turning forward while the other will be turning backward. This occurs whether the park brake is applied or not, with the transmission in park. Meanwhile my old 1983 Chevrolet is parked next to it, not sliding. This is of great concern to me whenever someone comes over and parks behind my truck, or when I am parking on the street in the city. The local Ford dealership tells me there is nothing wrong, this is normal.

When I first start the vehicle and place it in reverse, after about three seconds, I hear a loud "thump". Noise comes from a little right of center and in front of the dash. Dealer cannot duplicate. 53 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2000 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 04/16/2002

I was driving home on the interstate when traffic stopped ahead of me. It was raining pretty hard and I was not able to stop and I hit a minivan that was in front of me. (there were 40 - 50 other vehicles involved in this incident, but my piece of the greater wreck only involved myself and the minivan. ) I do not know how fast I was going when I made contact, but it was fast enough to cause $16,000 of damage to the front end of my truck. The impact mostly went above the bumper, pushing the grill into the front of the engine causing everyhing in front of the engine to be replaced along with replacement of the motor and transmission mounts. Neither the driver or passanger airbag deployed. I was wearing my seatbelt, so I was not at all injured, but I was very surprised that a significant inpact like I experienced did not set off the airbag. Are there any general guidelines for when the airbags should deploy?.

54 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2001 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 03/02/2002

While driving 55mph and hitting passing gear, vehicle went into idle, it would not accelerate. Dealer contacted. Transmission temperature gauge registers a temperature when transmission is cold. It registers the same if transmission is hot or cold.

56 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2002 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 02/20/2002

2002 Ford F-250 crew cab - transmission temperature gauge always registers hot, even if the truck has been sitting over night. Ford service bulletins says this is normal. If this is normal, what is the purpose of the gauge on the dash? how can I tell if my transmission is over heating when hauling a heavy load? the gauge is not reliable. Ford tells me the gauge will register if the transmission begins to over heat. Well it's registering even when the transmission is cold from sitting over night! how can I rely on this??? Ford tells me they will not replace the transmission if it is damaged from overheating. Well, I have no reliable way of telling if it is overheating. Why put a gauge on the dash only for show? why should I pay extra for something that serves absolutely no purpose if Ford said it was normal.

57 Automatic Transmission problem of the 1999 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 01/19/2002

While I was exiting my truck, with motor off and transmission in park, the pin that holds it in park failed and allowed the truck to roll backwards. This scoped me up in the door and dragged me over the hillside next to the road. I had to escape from the door before it ran into trees, and in that process dislocated my left elbow and two ribs along with numerous bruises. The truck is at a repair shop to review what happened to its park gear.

63 Automatic Transmission problem of the 1999 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 10/22/1999

This truck has many problems. Strarting with the transmission going out, the front right side of the truck there is a distinctive "clunk" when put into gear; either forward or reverse. Then going interior; the "door ajar" light comes on it thinks that the doors are not shut, but you can slam all 4 doors shut and it still thinks the doors are "ajar" so that will keep the interior light on while driving. The interior light will go out if you get up to about 20 mph, then when you slow down to under 20mph it will come back on. The "warning bell" comes on and stays on even when the truck is shut off. Next the seat belts will some times work and some times not. Either the are hard to pull out or they will not retract. The tailgate cover has warped in not even 1 year after we had it.

69 Automatic Transmission problem of the 1999 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 12/11/1998

Stopped at a traffic light and when light turned green, pressed gas pedal but truck would not move. Waited a few minutes and pressed pedal and truck went. Driving down highway, truck started coasting - engine was running but pressing the gas pedal gave no power. Finally got the truck to Ford service. Left the truck running and in park - the truck jumped into reverse. The truck lost power again while the Ford tech was test driving. They replaced the electronic gas pedal and the transmission. They took the truck on a test drive and noticed the rear end was grinding. They determined the carrier bearings had come apart. They have ordered a new rear end. The windshield washer fluid would not spray - they repaired some wiring to correct that problem. Ea04006 has ifs.

70 Automatic Transmission problem of the 1999 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 11/07/1998

The vehicle came out of gear (park), it proceeded to roll backwards down the hill. The drivers side door was open and caught on a tree which was near the vehicle. It also knocked down and injured a 4 year old as it was rolling down the hill. The vehicle was slowed down by the tree, which barely gave the driver enough time to climb into the vehicle and bring it to a complete stop before it went backwards into a revine. It has not yet been determined why this incident occurred.
