Cp4 high pressure fuel pump failure leaving vehicle disabled completely and a driver was put at risk traveling about 70 mph on the freeway when this pump failed completely. Had to be towed to nearest shop and was told that this failure is a known failure to Ford. This pump was made for european gas not american gas - does not lubricate the system as it should. Approx. Expense is $9,500. 00 to install the disaster kit (about $6,000) and at least 26 man hours (labor) to repair as told by the mechanic after inspecting the vehicle. Need Ford to address this issue as the driver and others could have been put in a fatal situation since the vehicle losses all power and is uncontrollable at that point. We need reimbursement for this repair as we were never informed that this pump was in this vehicle by the dealer that sold us this vehicle in August 2017.

Problem persisting regarding evap system and fuel pump. Vehicle has an extended crank time and sputters at or around 400 rpm from anywhere between two to four seconds due to the loss of pressure in the fuel lines due to a faulty check valve or faulty evap purge valve. Dust can enter the evap vent and overtime work its way to the evap system and cause the evap purge valve to stick or work past the evap system and into the fuel vent tube desending into the fuel sending unit which can cause the fuel pump check valve, which keeps fuel pressure in the lines after the motor is turned off, to fail. In a worst case scenario,vehicle may not start at all unless fuel is pumped back into the lines by turning the key on and off multiple times. Problem with my vehicle most often occurs when vehicle has been sitting overnight or sitting during the day while I am at work. This issue can be fixed by rerouting the evap vent underneath the hood by the fresh air intake and replacing fuel sending unit and in the worst case replacing the fuel tank due to the accumulation of sediment and also replacing the evap canister. Date given is an approximate when the issue began and is currently an ongoing issue. Please note that battery is new and tested excellent and I use clean fuel from valero. I believe that this issue is also why I have poor gas mileage as well which is 11. 4 mpg. Vehicle has had no modifications impacting its weight and I have the oem tire size as well.

On August 28, 2020, the engine in my virtually brand new 2020 Ford F-250 truck (equipped with a diesel engine) suddenly and without any advanced warning whatsoever shut off while the vehicle was in motion. I had just turned from state highway 10 into the left lane of a four-lane city street in 5 o'clock traffic on a Friday evening. Without either power brakes or power steering, I was able to get the truck out of the roadway and into the parking lot of an adjacent business. I tried to restart the vehicle numerous times. While the engine would crank, it simply would not restart. I contacted my local Ford dealership the next morning and they arranged to have the truck towed to their place of business. After the Ford dealership had my truck for nearly a month, they determined that the cause for the sudden shutdown of my engine was a failed bosch cp4 high pressure fuel pump, which failure contaminated my entire fuel delivery system with metal shavings. I am now aware that there are class action lawsuits against each of the major us manufacturers relating to failures of the bosch cp4 high pressure fuel pump as a result of the lack of lubrication provided by low-sulfur diesel fuel generally available in the us, which failures result in substantial repair costs to replace the entire fuel delivery system.

While in motion on a Saturday night 10/19 on a farm to marker road, as we went over a railroad track the check engine light came on and the warning "reduced engine power" showed on the dashboard screen. The truck was still drive-able and we were able to get it home with no real issues, only with reduced engine power. Fast forward to the following Tuesday 10/22 when we were going to drive it to the dealership that I purchased the truck from to have it looked at and it would not turn over and it was showing "low fuel pressure". The truck was towed to the nearest Ford dealership. While in their care I was told my lpfp (low pressure fuel pump) was not working and it was replaced. Once they replaced it, they stated the hpfp (high pressure fuel pump) warning came on. Upon further inspection, they stated the hpfp had rust/metal fragments on the valve and in my fuel line. Now Ford motor company will not warranty it because they claim it was due to me having contaminated fuel. However, there was no rust inside my fuel tank so where did the rust come from? upon researching I discovered that Ford motor company had a class action lawsuit against them due to fuel pumps that are not compatible with american diesel fuel. Everything that is mentioned in this lawsuit is exactly what happened to my truck. I believe they are still installing the incompatible fuel pumps therefore causing the consumer to shovel out $8,000 - $20,000 in uncovered repair expenses. My truck is a 2018 F-250 super duty, 4x4 lariat and had ruffly 19k miles on it when this happened. I had it exactly 1 year when the incident happened. It is now 12/2/19 and my truck has been in the shop since 10/23/19 because I have been and still am fighting with Ford motor company about covering the repairs due to their negligence.
2014 Ford f250 high pressure fuel pump exploded and sent metal throughout my field system. Was driving to houston going 80 mph on ih 10 and my truck came to a stop and power steering turned off so I could barely get it off the highway. 18 wheelers were going by me going over 80 mph. We were almost killed. Was left in 106 degree heat for over 2 hrs waiting for a tow truck. Ford dealer in houston where it was towed (100 miles) wants $14,000. 00 to fix the truck.
On 4/19/19 I misfueled my diesel vehicle. I stopped the process immediately and called Ford from the filling station. The Ford service center said that I should avoid turning the engine on, or even placing the engine in accessory mode because it would engage the fuel pump and flood the system with gasoline. When the tow truck arrived, it became clear that I could not put the vehicle in neutral to be winched onto the flatbed tow truck without turning on the accessory mode. I called Ford for an alternative. Ford recommended that I disconnect a cable beneath the truck that would disengage the transmission and allow the truck to move. Because I could not figure out how to do this, I had to turn on the accessory to get the truck out of park for towing. This caused about $12,000 in damage to the fuel system. More to the point of this complaint, I later discovered that this procedure is not in the manual for my truck. Further, the procedure that is in the manual was not mentioned. It is possible that the Ford manual contains a procedure that does not apply to the truck. It is also possible that Ford is recommending a procedure that is inherently more dangerous than the procedure in the manual.
With no notice the truck cut off at a busy intersection and would not restart. Because of the location the police ordered a tow to move it quickly. Later roadside assistance towed it to the dealer who informed me the fuel pump was bad but they required more through work to quote it all. It ended up the whole high pressure fuel system had to be replaced as well as the fuel injectors. Ford claimed it was due to water contamenated fuel however my insurance sent a sample pulled from the truck and found only metals consistent with the material found in the fuel system but no water. My internet research showed recalls for this truck were issued for a missing strap on the fuel pump but not for my VIN which was produced in the kentucky plant. When I showed the dealership they encouraged me to contact Ford corporate as they could not assist me further. The truck shutting off with no warning is a danger to the driver. I was billed $9,493. 49 because they claimed water containation in the fuel which was not present. I had the department of agriculture check the last placed I purchased fuel and it was also fine as was the fuel the insurance company pulled from the truck. Ford owes the consumer a recall and reinbursement for the changes! this happened to be the 2nd fuel system this truck has received. The first was replaced under warranty but I am unable to load the service record details due to file size. I will send them if you will allow it.

After driving approx 1 mile on surface street leaving work, a grinding noise was heard from fuel pump under vehicle under driver location. After 30 seconds check engine light illuminated and low fuel pressure message appeared in message area. Then reduced power appeared in message window. It happened so quickly that it left me stranded in the middle of the street with traffic on both sides until police came by and assisted. The truck was only able to idle for a minute until it died in the middle of the street. Truck was taken via tow truck to local Ford dealer. Once there diesel tech cleared codes and stated they could not find anything wrong.

High pressure fuel pump went out and sent metal through the fuel lines into the injectors. I was driving down the highway when the pump went out and the truck shutdown while I was still moving. This isn't so much a safety recall but I have spoken to many other 6. 7 diesel owners and the same has happened to them. Ford wants $9000 to fix and says this happens to a lot of the 6. 7's . I am lodging the complaint in the hopes of your board enforcing a recall. That is my only reason.
Dealership reports a failure to the high pressure fuel pump. Repairs are $7900. 00. Only 5500 miles on the diesel truck and is not covered under warranty. No warnings lights or alarms were given. After thorough research, this is a concerning problem, with Ford/bousch.

I got on the highway and was doing a turnaround when I accelerated to enter the highway lanes a warning light that said reduced engine power appeared on my dash. Approximately 200' later my truck died on the highway. My high pressure fuel pump went out and apparently disintegrated sending aluminum shavings throughout my entire fuel system. The fix is to replace the entire fuel system at a cost of $11,200. The Ford company is claiming the fuel was contaminated and caused the pump to rust and go out. I have never got a water in fuel warning light on my truck and have had all the required maintenance done on the truck. The insurance company had a lab do a sample of the fuel in my truck and the fuel met all the astm requirements.
Ford voiding warrant repairs on cp4 fuel pump due to fuel contamination - we have seen NHTSA resolve the issue with cp4 fule pump for vw- we need to have NHTSA look at this for Ford- they repair cost that Ford is putting on the owners range from 10-18ku . There are many complaints on this issue with Ford and NHTSA - dealers are instructing owners to also to file a claim with their auto insurance company under comprehensive coverage so they insurance company pays for their faulty design. Many truck owners are taking huge losses as well as insurance companies - we ask that the NHTSA get involved with and begin an investigation into this issue.

This issue is around the diesel exhaust fluid system - specifically the reductant heater assembly but has also now affected the fuel pump and associated emissions. The problem is intermittent but occurs when the temperature falls below 30 degrees. This care has been in dealership repeatedly over the past 14 months for this issue. Part of the design of this system failure is to depower the engine which nearly caused an accident while I was driving. I have exhausted my abilities and patience with Ford motor company and now submit it to you for redress. See attached pdf document for full details. .
I had a fuel pump to malfunction causing the entire fuel system to be replace on my 2011 Ford f 250 at a cost of almost $8000. This is unbelievable I contact my insurance provider and the adjuster said this if a common problem on this make and model. There has to be something wrong for type of repair to be a common thing. We purchased this 2008 Ford F-250 super duty new at the Ford store in san leandro, CA on July 21, 2007 and continue to be the original owners. This vehicle is equipped with a 6. 4 turbo-diesel engine. This vehicle is subject to TSB 07-26-2 (wiring harness defect on hpfp) issued August 2007. On the morning of March 27, 2015, while accelerating onto a freeway and at an approximate speed of 50 mph, the engine shut down without any warning. I lost all acceleration and the engine died. Braking and steering were also diminished. I got lucky and was able to avoid a collision and coast to the side of the road where the vehicle would not restart. The vehicle was towed to a local repair shop (bud adams - castro valley, CA; bar#:228593 cal#:66801). Diagnosis revealed a short in the wiring of the high pressure fuel pump gasket wiring harness (the subject of TSB 07-26-2 wherein Ford recognized on or about August of 2007 a problem with unprotected wiring within the hpfp wiring harness). Repairs were extremely costly ($3,791. 89 reduced to $2,591. 89) but more importantly this instantaneous failure without warning is going to cause an accident, injury or death; it is only a matter of time. I got lucky. I see other complainants who had hours stuck in the desert, someone with a load of cattle stuck without warning, the list goes on. In each reported instance the operator described an immediate loss of power plant with no warning. I urge the ntsb to investigate these unplanned shut downs of this vehicle's power plant. Under certain circumstances this may lead to loss of control of the vehicle, collision, injury and possibly death. Ford has known about this issue since August of 2007 yet has not issued a recall. Some may say this is due to the large costs involved to remove and replace the hpfp gasket and wiring harness (in part involving the removal of the vehicle's cab).

The high pressure fuel pump failed. I have taken the truck to two different dealerships and they have said the same thing. They are saying that it is a fuel issue but the pump on the truck isnt equipped with the incorrect fuel pump for the diesel that is sold in the us. I have spent just about $2000. 00 just fighting the warranty company to fix the truck I drove for 10 days before failing. The truck has been in the shop longer than I have had it.
The truck seemed to be running out of gas, surged, sputter, surge sputtered then quit running. I had 1/2 a tank. Had to cost the truck a crossed speeding traffic lanes and came to a stop on an over pass. Had the truck towed to the dealer. The dealer findings were a problem with the fuel pump and controller. The dealer stated when they enter the check engine code (p0627) into their wan, they shortly had a call from Ford engineering wanting the parts returned to them and with instructions not to replace them with the same part number. It seems this was a known issue and had been flagged in their network by Ford engineering. It seems this issue was unknown by the dealership. It bothers me greatly that this issue is known by Ford engineering but the dealers are selling new trucks with this known defect. The new truck has sat at the dealer for three weeks because the controller part is not available.

2008 Ford f 250 super duty diesel 6. 4 engine - engine quit running with no warning, would not restart. Was in the middle of a long bridge over the mississippi river. This was a major inconvenience. Had to be towed to dealer. TSB 07-26-2 was performed to fix the known problem of an unprotected wire in the high pressure fuel pump gasket chaffing through. This was an expensive repair since the cab had to be removed. A revised gasket with protected wire was installed. Luckily I was not towing our 5th wheel at the time. This is a serious safety risk. Ford should recall and cover the expense to repair as this was a known design flaw.
I was driving our 2008 F-250 2wd an as I applied the brakes to turn, lost power steering and brakes. This had occurred a few times before but I could not identify the problem. The problem was intermittent and although a near serious accident occurred, no problem could be found. I was planning to take it to a local dealer over the weekend. The next day I was pulling into my driveway and the truck engine died and would not start. We had it towed to the dealer for a diagnosis. It was discovered that the high pressure fuel pump cover gasket which includes a wiring harness needs replaced due to wire abrasion and a shorted wire. In addition, the cab of the truck will need to be removed to correct the problem. I understand that the replacement part has been re-engineered to include a guard to protect the wire from abrasion. From internet research I have found several similar instances, with some vehicles losing power while in motion. This is extremely dangerous. The dealer acknowledged that this is a recurring issue with this model of truck and they have made several similar repairs. As a safety professional for over 30 years, this is very unnerving to say the least. Highway crashes occur far too often due to human error without having known manufacturer defects adding to the problem. When a trusted manufacturer discovers an engineering issue but fails to inform owners or correct the problem, this adds unnecessary danger for unsuspecting motorists,our families and the public. I trust that this will be investigated fully.
Fuel pump continues to run after ignition switch is turned off. This causes eventually the battery to go dead. I can hear the fuel pump continue after ignition is turned off and pump changes pitch in sound when switching back and forth from front fuel tank to rear.
Driving on interstate 65mph. Engine started binding down and speed dropped to 25mph and finally completely died. Had it towed home. Now won't start. Have replaced egr cooler and oil cooler previously . This time replaced fuel pump and all fuel filters. Will crank and run for a very short amount of time then will die again- and not crank back for awhile. Just repeats this process. Now told that it needs head gaskets or high pressure pump. These problems are very expensive. Why will Ford not fix these problems that seem to be on all 6. 0 diesel models?.

The vehicle is a 1990 and the site does not provide a space choice for the 1990, only '91 and up. The truck has the exact same problem as the other many Ford trucks. While idling, or underway, the vehicle spews gasoline from the front tank, out onto the road, or any driveway, if idling. It's clear that once you fill the rear tank and then travel, the fuel, which should return to the rear tank in a cycle, does not. It simply returns to the front tank, until it fills the front tank and floods out. The pump in the rear tank appears to just continue to run, for example,,,, you have a full rear tank. You have half a tank of fuel in the front tank. You drive. The rear tank pump, pumps all of the full rear tank into the front tank. So, half a tank of gas flows out of the front tank, onto the ground. Obviously, the cycle, where the fuel should go from rear, to engine and back, isn't happening. Instead, the fuel rolls by the engine and returns to a full front tank, rather than the rear tank, so, onto the ground goes the fuel. On an older recall report, the repair is described, where the 'jumper' must be replaced, despite the fact there's no such thing, there's a fuel pump and probably some sort of 'bi-valve' that someone's poor engineering failed on the whole, at the time of design. I think I'll just pull into the local Ford lot and idle out a few gallons now and then. But since the 90 isn't on the recall, despite the obvious exact problem as the 91's and up, there's no use. It would seem common sense, that dealers could simply be notified that the 1990 f 250's are doing the exact thing as many other makes and the least the dealer could do, is be a little more specific about the repair. But not if their corporate engineers and repair centers keep the mechanical information secret, or written in some manufacturer 'code language'.
