Other Fuel System Tank Mounting Problems of Ford F-250

Ford F-250 owners have reported 8 problems related to other fuel system tank mounting (under the other fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 1997 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 05/04/2018

Fuel tank 1 seems to pump fuel into tank 2. Fuel switch on "front" seems to indicate proper amount of fuel. Fuel switch on "rear" always reads full. Sometimes fuel will flow out of rear tank as soon as fuel cap is removed. I drove about 75 miles with the fuel switch on "rear". When I arrived at my destination, I unscrewed rear tank cap and fuel spewed out. . . . . . . Maybe a gallon or so.

2 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2015 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 09/21/2015

Within 60 seconds of the message "cleaning exhaust filter", the 6. 7l engine begins to loose power, vibrating, and making very loud clanging noises. All while driving at 60-70 mph, causing a huge deceleration, down to 45 mph if going up an incline, due to lose of power. This started at 7,000 miles and happens at least 1 per tank of fuel.

3 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2002 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 04/05/2015

While driving the mounts that hold the fuel tank failed causing the tank to fall off and drag on the road, eventually wearing a hole in the tank causing the fuel to leak out. Obviously once the gas ran out the vehicle would no longer operate. We were lucky that there was no fire.

4 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 1999 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 02/03/2014

We have started to notice that when driving at a steady speed the truck will stall and lose power as if it was out of gas. This has happen too many times and has become such a scare that we are completely paranoid to drive the truck without the fear of being rear ended. At take off the the truck will sometimes jolt forward violently. We have noticed and recorded that these problems occur only when the truck gets to half a tank. The problem has gotten so bad that after a complete fill up the truck will now just cut off while being operated on the highway and have to be restarted. We have several Ford vehicles both personal and for our fleet vehicles. The fuel filters are becoming completely clog up due to the poor condition of the fuel tanks themselves. We have spent countless hours researching these problems, and spent excessive amounts of money trying to fix/repair these problems. It saddens us that we have become just another added unsatisfied loyal customer to Ford, whom has no thought of correcting this problem. We have read so many other complaints and there is still no help for us. It just left in our hands to try to find a solution to fix this faulty problem so we don't get out on the highways and kill someone and or ourselves while operating lousy Ford trucks and vans! we think it is time for Ford to give us some help!!!!!!!.

5 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2003 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 10/11/2012

The contact owns a 2003 Ford F-250 sd. The contact stated that while performing an oil change, he noticed that the frame was rusted severely. The contact performed a thorough inspection of the vehicle and also discovered that the fuel tank straps were severely rusted. The front strap was completely detached from the vehicle and the second strap was partially hanging from the vehicle. The manufacturer was contacted and advised him that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 11v385000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:mounting). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were approximately 125,000.

6 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 1997 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 08/10/2010

Driving the vehicle at a slow speed over a gravel road, the straps and/or their attachment points to the frame failed, allowing the tank to drop and make contact with the road. This was prior to Ford's recall regarding the straps and a repair was made at the local shop. Repairs consisted of a new tank, sending unit and straps. The shop indicated that the straps had failed but new straps could not be fitted because, either because of the mechanical action of tearing away the tank or because of deterioration, the mounting points were not in sufficiently good shape to reattach the straps. The shop fashioned an attachment consisting of chains suspending the tank from the frame. Subsequently, on receiving Ford's recall notice regarding the straps, I took the vehicle to a Ford dealer who, after an attempt to repair, indicated the vehicle needed more work to implement the correction. The dealer (and I) spoke to a Ford representative who initially authorized the repair but, when the extend of the required repair was somewhat greater than anticipated, was overruled by someone else at Ford and Ford denied the repair. The truck effectively could not be inspected in the future because of this defect and it use was lost other than occasional use on the property. Follow-ups with Ford resulted in their claim that Ford was only liable for the straps and not any consequential or related damage and no other recourse was available. I would like the national highway traffic safety association to look into the ramifications of limiting a safety recall of this nature to the defective straps only and not the consequences of the defect. I am also requesting and examination of Ford's willingness to send a vehicle back onto the streets with an uncorrected know safety issue.

7 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 1997 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 08/10/2010

The fuel tank straps failed on my truck causing the fuel tank to detach and make contact with the ground while the vehicle was in motion. I had the tank and related parts replaced at a local shop. However, the mechanic informed me that the mounting points for the vehicle's gas tank straps were also rusted and new straps could not be installed in the normal manner. When the recall was issued I took the vehicle to a local Ford dealer that attempted an official repair of the straps but concluded the mounting brackets were too damaged to install new straps. Whether the defect was all corrosion or a combination of corrosion and the effects of the tank being ripped from the remaining mounts when the straps failed was not determined. The dealer and I called a Ford company representative who initially agreed to have Ford cover the repair of the vehicle but this was later rescinded by a superior and I left with an unsafe, incomplete repair. I would like the national highway traffic safety association to examine the incidence of structural and mounting bracket failures due to premature corrosion not limited to the straps themselves. Several local mechanics have commented that they see this very, very frequently on Ford trucks of that vintage. My truck will not pass inspection with the brackets rusted as they are. Given the seriousness of the issue, I believe this bears very close examination. Ford says it has not process to follow up on this concern. I continue to receive recall notices but they are useless since Ford will not acknowledge related damage, damaged caused by the defective straps and/or additional issues that very likely exist with the corrosion resistance of some Ford truck frames. This truck's frame has continued to experience significant frame based rust deterioration while other parts of the vehicle seem to follow a much more normal aging pattern.

8 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2001 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 05/30/2001

The 2001 f250 I own has always stalled at any given time. Ford recalled the cam position sensor, I had already changed it just before recall then they did again. That never stopped it from stalling, it also doesn't read when you sometimes go to take off. I've changed (throttle switch) that did nothing. All of its mishaps has cased thousands of dollars in repair. Alawys broke down and can't make money when it's impossible to drive truck time after time. I have been in several close call accidents, when I lose powersteering and almost have crashed into cars. I figured out the fuel tank flaking off inside the tank could be the cause. The truck gets terrible fuel mileage when this happens costing a fortune in wasted diesel fumes. That have been know to cause brain cancer, also the amount of pollution from not running proper. I am no fan of Ford's repair shop when they tell you in 1983 to my father that his almost brand new diesel needs new (spark plugs) when diesel do not even have them. I own this 2001 diesel for a long time now for a landscaping and snowplowing that is out of business. It is embarrassing for it to stall, rev up slipping transmission, harming whole drive train. Never knowing when I'm could be stranded in northern michigan. I have had one thing after another with the Ford I own. I have seen a lot of same problems people are complaining about. Sounds like Ford has done good at covering up problem by not telling us if they knew. I thought the fuel problem came from gas stations. Only thing helped me was mostly same newer station, and tried to keep it full helped. Can anyone help, these are dangerous situations when lives depend on them. I'm not sure what to do with the truck, I'd like to see it go to scrap at this time. With 277,000 not even rusted out much. It needs whole drive train again, I don't want the oily leaking, polluting junk on the road.
