The tie rod broke while the vehicle was in motion. This caused the vehicle to lose control and crash into another vehicle, causing damage to both vehicles. There was no warning and no sign of any issues. Vehicle has been very well maintained, in fact, it has been in the shop at least once per month for the past year due to a number of mechanical issues unrelated to the tie rod.

When shifting into drive the truck will lurch forward, a very hard shift. It also does the same thing in reverse. Several times the if my foot was not pressing very hard on the brake when shifting into drive or reverse the truck would lurch forward several feet. It there was an obstruction or person in front of the truck it would have put them at risk of being hit. While driving on cruise control it is very slow to shift and will skip multiple gears when shifting down when going up a hill. Sometimes also going downhill. This can cause the truck to slow down rapidly without a brake indicator which could cause a rear end collision if there is someone following closely. The truck is only 4. 5yrs old and has 60,597miles. Symptoms started about 3-4months earlier when truck was well under 60,000 miles however I was unable to get it to the dealer until 60,597 which puts the truck out of warranty. The dealer was able to reproduce the issues and performed a code reset as well as a reprogram and the issue was not resolved. Dealer tore down the transmission and said one of the clutch packs in the transmission has failed along with several other parts. It is now requiring a full rebuild or replacement. There were no warning lights, alarms or messages. Date below is approximately when symptoms started occurring. I do not yet have my vehicle back so do not have the full report from the dealer. I will submit when I receive my vehicle back.
Bad transmission at only 75,000 miles.

The investigation into the f-150 sudden transmission downshifts into a lower gear at highway speeds needs to be expanded and also include F-250 6. 7 l diesel. It has happened in my F-250 twice while traveling on the interstate at highway speeds, down shifts from gear 6 to gear 3. Very dangerous.

December 24, 2024, traveling in a line of vehicles on a two lane road, the vehicles ahead of me slowed to almost a complete stop. I braked and slowed along with the traffic to a near stop. As the traffic began moving again, I released my brake and pressed the accelerator pedal. The engine rpm's raised but the the vehicle did not move. It felt as if the transmission was in neutral. After releasing the accelerator and pressing it a second time, the engine revved again and then the transmission made a loud bang engaging the transmission and lurched the truck forward. I released the accelerator and braked to avoid striking the vehicle ahead of me. I pressed the accelerator again only to have the same scenario happen again. Fortunately, each time the truck did this, I did not strike the vehicle ahead of me. This is the not the first incident of this occurring with this vehicle. The truck then drove normally and did not experience this again on this trip. This had occurred previously a several months before with the same issue. I am unable to duplicate the issue and am unsure what causes the truck to do this. It appears that the transmission is unable to determine what gear it needs to be in and therefore acts as if it is in neutral when this occurs.
Transfer case is shifting from 2 wheel high to 4 wheel high while driving down the highway. It does not engage the the 4wheel drive front hubs when doing this so no indication this is happening. Eventually the shift fork breaks and transfer case is then either locked in 4 wheel high without knowing or the transfer case goes to a neutral position and loss of all power. In the my incident I was driving on the interstate and transfer case went to neutral without warning. I was in the middle of 4 lanes of traffic and total loss of movement. I was able to navigate the truck to the side of the interstate safely. However had this been in the middle of rush hour traffic this would most likely been a fatality report with multiple cars involved. After discussions with Ford techs I was advised this is an ongoing issue that has not been addressed by Ford and they are seeing more and more of these issues, so much so that their transmission techs are backed up for 3-5 weeks with these repairs. Seems to me this kind of failure NHTSA would be very aware of and demanding a recall be issued to fix this issue. Rather the owners are eating the cost of repair for a blatant safety issue being over looked.

This car has had a recall for almost year. I’m am terrified to drive my truck especially with my kids in it. Sometimes if I press the gas trying to cross traffic, it takes a while to go. Also sometimes it won’t crank up and start. It takes awhile few tried. My back up camera doesn’t work the way it should.
Truck lunges forward when at stop light, in drive and foot on the brake. Almost rear ended another driver. Did this several times. Also, when merging on highway and try to pick up speed the truck bogs down and hesitates almost got into two accidents because of this. Also loud clunking and banging on start up and when idling.

This vehicle was purchased new from ray varner Ford, clinton TN. Ford issued a safety recall notice for insulating material contacting the driveshaft. I took this vehicle to varner who said they inspected it but found no defect. Last year, the vehicle was seen by the Ford dealer in st augustine FL, who told me the safety recall had not been addressed. When I explained that varner had (at least claimed to have)_ inspected it, the rep said "if so , they didnt enter it into the computer system. " I have contacted Ford who essentially ignored the matter.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? the variable displacement oil pump delivers oil to the engine at low pressure/capacity during idle conditions. Routine occurrences of prolonged idle time may result in excess wear to the engine camshaft lobes and valve tappet surfaces due to reduced lubrication. Overtime, the engine may progressively run rough due to cylinder misfire. Additionally, customers may hear engine tapping noises and the check engine light may illuminate. This causes delamination of the lifters and camshaft which sends metal throughout the engine causing total engine failure and this requires a completely new engine. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? beyond the financial implications, a sudden breakdown on a busy road can lead to dangerous situations, putting both me and other drivers at risk. Additionally, driving a vehicle with a compromised engine can result in further damage and potentially cause accidents. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes there are many forums and videos online about this issue in the 7. 3 godzilla engine produced by Ford. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? my vehicle is currently at the dealership for repairs which they said they are unable to do so I will be taking it to another dealership next week. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? in my vehicle there was no cel but in other customers vehicles the cel will appear if the problem is not caught soon enough.

Transmission would not engage the next gear , while proceeding through a large traffic intersection. Very scary.
Truck has started dropping into 1st gear and losing speed with no warning. Has happened at low and high speeds.
Gears would delay upshift. Stopping would accelerate as approaching stop light.
While driving at various speeds the transmission/powertrain has jerking shifting, loss of power, inability to increase speed, hesitates in speed, hard shifting, clunking noises. It hesitates from 4th to 5th gear, hesitates from 9th to 10th gear, and will drop from 10th gear straight down as low as 4th gear with the rpms of the engine going dangerously high.
