The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-250. The contact stated while driving 70 mph over a bumpy road surface, the front end of the vehicle and the steering wheel started shuddering violently, causing the vehicle to veer to the right into the slow lane independently. The contact swerved and was able to pull over to the side of the road. The contact resumed driving at a slower speed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the steering damper had failed, and the tie rods and ball joints were damaged due to the shuddering. The dealer informed the contact that Ford campaign number: 20n04 only covered the steering linkage damper replacement. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 11,137.

Death wobble at 70 mph when driving over rumble strip in the middle of the road. Slowed down to almost 15 mph to stop the excessive violent shaking.
When temperature is below 32 degree clock spring in steering makes noise and causes steering to become stiff also renders horn in operable in positions while driving. I have brought this vehicle to get it fixed under warranty and the temperature raised to 40 degrees and everything worked as it should. I got cut off the other day and when I honked my horn it made no noise!.

I have been experiencing what is known as the “death wobble”. While driving at normal highway speeds, bumps or rough patches in the road will cause my vehicle to violently shudder. It is extremely difficult to maintain control and the vehicle has to coast to reduce speed to 20 mph before the shudder will stop. This is a known issue in previous year model f-series trucks. I have taken my vehicle to a dealership and had the issue confirmed as the steering stabilizer, however, Ford refuses to remedy the issue stating my year model is not affected. Ford claims the affected years models end at 2019. My vehicle is a 2020, however, my manufacturer date is 10/19. I believe my vehicle is actually what is considered a “half year”, meaning it received certain 2019 parts and certain 2020 parts. This issue is extremely dangerous for me as well as other motorists.
The tie rod broke while the vehicle was in motion. This caused the vehicle to lose control and crash into another vehicle, causing damage to both vehicles. There was no warning and no sign of any issues. Vehicle has been very well maintained, in fact, it has been in the shop at least once per month for the past year due to a number of mechanical issues unrelated to the tie rod.

2010 f250 repeatably experienced violent shaking of the front wheels and steering at highway speeds (commonly referred to as "death wobble"). This shaking has been so violent that I had no control of the vehicle steering and had to abruptly brake and slow to a near stop in 75 mph traffic! vehicle has 71k miles and has been very well maintained and garage kept (single owner). Substantial repairs have been made to replace steering dampener, track bar, drag link, and steering gear. Technician explained that all of these parts were severely damaged from the death wobble.

I was driving on a 1200 mile trip with my 39ft camper. I came off an overpass bridge and my truck felt like both front tires had popped. My steering wheel was bouncing like crazy and luckily I was able to get the vehicle to a stop and off the road. My 2 children and fiancé were also in the car and were lucky not to be killed. After stopping I looked over the truck and trailer and saw nothing wrong. We started to look up the death wobble on this model and it appears many people have also reported it. This truck only has 44k miles on it. I reported it to Ford and they have made it clear that they will not be doing anything, other than allowing my extended service plan to replace the same parts if they find an issue. After talking with Ford, I was driving my truck again without the trailer and the same thing happened. Luckily I was able to gain control of the truck again. The first instance I was going approximately 70 mph and the second I was around 60 mph. I am now afraid to drive this vehicle with my family and unfortunately I’m still 1000 miles from home.
On [xxx] I was driving to north carolina pulling a 43 foot fifth wheel camper when I hit a bump driving at 65 mph when I hit a bump and experienced the notorious Ford death wobble. The whole truck & steering started to shake violently I had to almost come to complete stop on interstate to get truck to stop shaking & to get truck under control I do know in fact that Ford has had issues with this problem & I am concerned why Ford has not recalled their trucks for this problem. My wife also drives this truck pulling the same camper. I am concerned this will happen again when she is driving. This problem almost caused a wreck from traffic behind me having to stop suddenly. Death wobble - on numerous occasions we have experienced the death wobble on our vehicle. We have complained to several dealers and done their recommended repairs. We have even purchased new high end tires as recommended with no resolution. We are unable to haul our RV out of fear of an accident. It has occurred at high speeds on the highway and at lower speeds on roads. This is very scary when it occurs. Coming to a full stop in a one lane hov lane is not only dangerous for us but also dangerous for those traveling behind us. This has been occurring for years with the most recent occurrence this week. After researching we discovered this route to file a complaint.

Vehicle wobbles violently on highway when it hits a bump. Had several near collisions. There were no warnings, happened suddenly.
After hitting a small bump on the highway my steering violently vibrated and I had to pull to the side of the interstate over a bridge because I though I had a tire blow out. I almost got rear-ended due to slowing down form 70mph to a safe enough speed to pull over. After inspecting the tires I couldn't see anything wrong. The drove fine until I hit a similar bump on the way back. Once the vibration starts, it's extremely hard to maintain control of the vehicle. 2019 Ford f250 17,000 miles.
Vehicle experiences death wobble in the front suspension system. While driving, vehicle suddenly shakes violently and is difficult to control. Vehicle was repaired at an authorized Ford dealership in 2021 but has since experienced the same dangerous affects of death wobble. Vehicle was inspected by the authorized Ford dealership prior to repair who confirmed the presence of death wobble. There were no warning signs prior to the vehicle experiencing death wobble before repair. There have been no warning signs after repair since death wobble has recurred.
On November 26, 2024 we experienced our third incident of the death wobble. During this third incident it threw the truck into oncoming traffic. After the second incident of the death wobble, we had the steering stabilizer fixed that was November 11, 2022. There was also damage to one tire due to truck leaving road. There was no warning lights or anything else prior to the uncontrollable shaking.
I purchased the truck new, and it has never experienced the death wobble until Dec. 25, 2024. The truck now has only 45k miles on it. I was driving on the interstate and hit a rough patch in the road at 70 mph, and the truck began to vibreate and shaking, my son was in the vehicle behind me and said it looked like the cab was going to fall off it was shaking so bad. I have taken the truck to two rivers Ford dealership to check out the issue. I just wanted to report it as well so there is a record of the issue.

I was on the freeway and doing about 70 and I hit some bumps in the road and my vehicle started to violently shake and I was unable to control my vehicle. I had to hit the breaks and slow down to regain control of my vehicle. This the second time this has happened. Vehicle was repaired about 2 years ago for the same thing. Ford repaired the damper steering linkage last time this incident happened. Aka death wobble.
2017 f250 death wobble when I hit a small bump on the interstate.
Today 11/21/24, I notified my husband as I am driving up the ramp going 50 my Ford started to shake hard. I had to hold on to the steering wheel and pull over with out pressing the break. I came to a stop and kept him on the phone in case I were to flip over. The vehicle stopped wobbling and I started up again. I was not able to drive but less than 40 and again the wobble coming back. The commute for me was over 1 hour. I would not make it alive home. This vehicle had to go to the shop as if I were to drive home I would not be alive at this moment.

Driving on PA turnpike twice this year and at 70 mph my 2012 Ford f 250 with 79000 miles on it started shaking uncontrollably , had my wife and granddaughter with me and they cried and screamed till it stopped. Going to the dealer to see what Ford is going to fix for me before someone is killed ! hopefully a recall or free fix! I have been educated that this has been an on going issue in many f250 Fords.
After driving for a short distance in my 2017 f250 diesel (75k miles) I pulled into a store. Turned off truck. Upon return and starting truck I got a dash alert that said adaptive steering fault service required. When I began to drive I noticed my steering wheel was turned left to the 10 o’clock position while driving straight down the road. I drove to the dealer as I felt my batteries were sluggish at starting and needed both replaced. Luckily batteries were covered but dealer said I need new battery cable harness for $4596. 59! I did some research and found the adaptive steering fault is a known issue with several people as is the battery cable harness. I also read where a voltage issue can cause the adaptive steering fault alert which is why I mention the wire harness. I’ve also known others with the battery cable issue and there is a recall on other years not mine. The dealer wants $465. 88 just to diagnose the adaptive steering so who knows what cost would be to replace at this point. This all is extremely dangerous as I don’t know if the adaptive steering controls will decide to start working and adjust my steering while driving causing an accident. There have been recalls on both issues but not my model and year. Truck is currently at dealer and I filed complaint with Ford consumer to no resolution at this point.
While driving I made a left hand turn and when straightening the steering wheel it was 90 degrees out of alignment which caused the truck to steer to the right almost striking another vehicle. The dash had a warning message come on stating adaptive steering fault service required. I have taken it in for service and the steering wheel needs replaced which is a recall on some Ford super duty’s the same year but this one was not included.
I bought the truck a week ago I was driving it home from went over a bridge at 70mph and it went into a violent death wobble. Luckily I have experience with death wobble from an offroad Jeep and I was able to get to a stop. If my wife was driving it could have been a different story, or if I was hauling a trailer it may have went in the ditch.
Steering tried to lock up as I tried to turn.
We were going speeds of 65-70mph and hit a bump and the sheeting wheel started to violent shake and the tires felt like they were going to come off. This has happened 3 times now since we bought the truck last December. After some research, this is known in the Ford community as the death wobble.
Had death wobble incident approximately 45 mph locked up breaks, came to slow roll, drove out of condition. Ford replaced steering stabilizer very scary with family in vehicle luckily no trailer attached. Ford needs to fix before death occurs. The caster bushing to fix can't cost anymore than the stabilizer replaced and definitely less costly than a life. This doesn't give impression of not caring about safety it confirms it ! not new issue.
Normal driving on highway. I drove over a rough section of road and the truck began shaking uncontrollably. Was able to slow down and the shaking stopped. . I've spent over $4000. 00 to fix problem. Within 6 months the issue returned. Have told Ford dealship. They will not fix problem. This is the 5th time I've reported the issue.
Experience the death wobble, violently shaking, causing very hard to control vehicle.
Same as my previous complaint dated yesterday, 10/3/2024, ray varner Ford, a Ford dealer, tried to sell me the wrong power steering fluid for this truck. I gave the vehicle year, make, model and VIN # and they still tried to sell me passenger car steering fluid. Varner Ford llc 2026 n charles g seviers blvd, clinton TN 37716 on invoice [xxx], on which I purchased brake fluid but rejected the wrong ps fluid. This 250 3/4 ton truck uses Ford automatic transmission fluid (atf), not power steering fluid, and adding the wrong fluid will result in system damage, failure and possibly accident if steering control is lost. A mechanic at a local tire and lube business told me that adding this incorrect fluid will result in damage to the seals in the ps system, so apparently this is a known problem. I am an engineer in several capacities (electronic, mechanical, automotive) and have studied motor vehicle fluids and lubricants in chemical and physical properties details. 2020 Ford 250 truck, not light passenger veicle. A Ford dealer, ted russell parkside, 9925 parkside dr in knoxville TN, sold me the wrong power steering fluid for this commercial vehicle (truck). Invoice [xxx] dated 10/02/2024. The purpose was routine maintenance on a nearly new truck. They sold me passenger car power steering (ps) fluid, not the correct motocraft automatic transmission fluid (atf) : 1. ) as clearly specified on page 367 of the vehicles owners manual 2. ) as obvious by looking at the dark red fluid, its obviously Ford atf I took the steering fluid back to this Ford dealer who blamed the mistake on a computer printout, which is a false excuse considering point 1. ) above. The parts manager tried to blame me for the mistake stating I hadnt supplied the vehicles VIN number so they could look up the correct fluid. That was a deliberate lie 1. ) the owner can find the correct fluid without knowing VIN as in 1. ) above 2. ) the dealers parts employee neither asked for the VIN nor went out to get it as the vehicle was on their parking lot at the time of sale, 3. ) an attempt at blaming the victim (me) which is a deliberate deceptive tactic replacing the steering fluid in this heavy truck with the wrong, passenger car fluid, will result in fluid failure because normal ps fluid does not have the high pressure additive chemicals that are in the correct atf. The wrong fluid will not lubricate the steering pump or rack in operation, especially at heavy loads, and cause excessive metal-to-metal wear and probably longer term steering failure which can result in accident or death. This further could be a deliberate fraud, as the un-knowing vehicle owner would see system failure at some time in the future without being able to link the steering failure to installing the wrong fluid.
