After hitting a small bump on the highway my steering violently vibrated and I had to pull to the side of the interstate over a bridge because I though I had a tire blow out. I almost got rear-ended due to slowing down form 70mph to a safe enough speed to pull over. After inspecting the tires I couldn't see anything wrong. The drove fine until I hit a similar bump on the way back. Once the vibration starts, it's extremely hard to maintain control of the vehicle. 2019 Ford f250 17,000 miles.
Vehicle experiences death wobble in the front suspension system. While driving, vehicle suddenly shakes violently and is difficult to control. Vehicle was repaired at an authorized Ford dealership in 2021 but has since experienced the same dangerous affects of death wobble. Vehicle was inspected by the authorized Ford dealership prior to repair who confirmed the presence of death wobble. There were no warning signs prior to the vehicle experiencing death wobble before repair. There have been no warning signs after repair since death wobble has recurred.
On November 26, 2024 we experienced our third incident of the death wobble. During this third incident it threw the truck into oncoming traffic. After the second incident of the death wobble, we had the steering stabilizer fixed that was November 11, 2022. There was also damage to one tire due to truck leaving road. There was no warning lights or anything else prior to the uncontrollable shaking.
I purchased the truck new, and it has never experienced the death wobble until Dec. 25, 2024. The truck now has only 45k miles on it. I was driving on the interstate and hit a rough patch in the road at 70 mph, and the truck began to vibreate and shaking, my son was in the vehicle behind me and said it looked like the cab was going to fall off it was shaking so bad. I have taken the truck to two rivers Ford dealership to check out the issue. I just wanted to report it as well so there is a record of the issue.

I was on the freeway and doing about 70 and I hit some bumps in the road and my vehicle started to violently shake and I was unable to control my vehicle. I had to hit the breaks and slow down to regain control of my vehicle. This the second time this has happened. Vehicle was repaired about 2 years ago for the same thing. Ford repaired the damper steering linkage last time this incident happened. Aka death wobble.

2017 f250 death wobble when I hit a small bump on the interstate.
Today 11/21/24, I notified my husband as I am driving up the ramp going 50 my Ford started to shake hard. I had to hold on to the steering wheel and pull over with out pressing the break. I came to a stop and kept him on the phone in case I were to flip over. The vehicle stopped wobbling and I started up again. I was not able to drive but less than 40 and again the wobble coming back. The commute for me was over 1 hour. I would not make it alive home. This vehicle had to go to the shop as if I were to drive home I would not be alive at this moment.

Driving on PA turnpike twice this year and at 70 mph my 2012 Ford f 250 with 79000 miles on it started shaking uncontrollably , had my wife and granddaughter with me and they cried and screamed till it stopped. Going to the dealer to see what Ford is going to fix for me before someone is killed ! hopefully a recall or free fix! I have been educated that this has been an on going issue in many f250 Fords.
After driving for a short distance in my 2017 f250 diesel (75k miles) I pulled into a store. Turned off truck. Upon return and starting truck I got a dash alert that said adaptive steering fault service required. When I began to drive I noticed my steering wheel was turned left to the 10 o’clock position while driving straight down the road. I drove to the dealer as I felt my batteries were sluggish at starting and needed both replaced. Luckily batteries were covered but dealer said I need new battery cable harness for $4596. 59! I did some research and found the adaptive steering fault is a known issue with several people as is the battery cable harness. I also read where a voltage issue can cause the adaptive steering fault alert which is why I mention the wire harness. I’ve also known others with the battery cable issue and there is a recall on other years not mine. The dealer wants $465. 88 just to diagnose the adaptive steering so who knows what cost would be to replace at this point. This all is extremely dangerous as I don’t know if the adaptive steering controls will decide to start working and adjust my steering while driving causing an accident. There have been recalls on both issues but not my model and year. Truck is currently at dealer and I filed complaint with Ford consumer to no resolution at this point.
While driving I made a left hand turn and when straightening the steering wheel it was 90 degrees out of alignment which caused the truck to steer to the right almost striking another vehicle. The dash had a warning message come on stating adaptive steering fault service required. I have taken it in for service and the steering wheel needs replaced which is a recall on some Ford super duty’s the same year but this one was not included.
I bought the truck a week ago I was driving it home from went over a bridge at 70mph and it went into a violent death wobble. Luckily I have experience with death wobble from an offroad Jeep and I was able to get to a stop. If my wife was driving it could have been a different story, or if I was hauling a trailer it may have went in the ditch.

Steering tried to lock up as I tried to turn.
We were going speeds of 65-70mph and hit a bump and the sheeting wheel started to violent shake and the tires felt like they were going to come off. This has happened 3 times now since we bought the truck last December. After some research, this is known in the Ford community as the death wobble.
Had death wobble incident approximately 45 mph locked up breaks, came to slow roll, drove out of condition. Ford replaced steering stabilizer very scary with family in vehicle luckily no trailer attached. Ford needs to fix before death occurs. The caster bushing to fix can't cost anymore than the stabilizer replaced and definitely less costly than a life. This doesn't give impression of not caring about safety it confirms it ! not new issue.
Normal driving on highway. I drove over a rough section of road and the truck began shaking uncontrollably. Was able to slow down and the shaking stopped. . I've spent over $4000. 00 to fix problem. Within 6 months the issue returned. Have told Ford dealship. They will not fix problem. This is the 5th time I've reported the issue.
Experience the death wobble, violently shaking, causing very hard to control vehicle.
Same as my previous complaint dated yesterday, 10/3/2024, ray varner Ford, a Ford dealer, tried to sell me the wrong power steering fluid for this truck. I gave the vehicle year, make, model and VIN # and they still tried to sell me passenger car steering fluid. Varner Ford llc 2026 n charles g seviers blvd, clinton TN 37716 on invoice [xxx], on which I purchased brake fluid but rejected the wrong ps fluid. This 250 3/4 ton truck uses Ford automatic transmission fluid (atf), not power steering fluid, and adding the wrong fluid will result in system damage, failure and possibly accident if steering control is lost. A mechanic at a local tire and lube business told me that adding this incorrect fluid will result in damage to the seals in the ps system, so apparently this is a known problem. I am an engineer in several capacities (electronic, mechanical, automotive) and have studied motor vehicle fluids and lubricants in chemical and physical properties details. 2020 Ford 250 truck, not light passenger veicle. A Ford dealer, ted russell parkside, 9925 parkside dr in knoxville TN, sold me the wrong power steering fluid for this commercial vehicle (truck). Invoice [xxx] dated 10/02/2024. The purpose was routine maintenance on a nearly new truck. They sold me passenger car power steering (ps) fluid, not the correct motocraft automatic transmission fluid (atf) : 1. ) as clearly specified on page 367 of the vehicles owners manual 2. ) as obvious by looking at the dark red fluid, its obviously Ford atf I took the steering fluid back to this Ford dealer who blamed the mistake on a computer printout, which is a false excuse considering point 1. ) above. The parts manager tried to blame me for the mistake stating I hadnt supplied the vehicles VIN number so they could look up the correct fluid. That was a deliberate lie 1. ) the owner can find the correct fluid without knowing VIN as in 1. ) above 2. ) the dealers parts employee neither asked for the VIN nor went out to get it as the vehicle was on their parking lot at the time of sale, 3. ) an attempt at blaming the victim (me) which is a deliberate deceptive tactic replacing the steering fluid in this heavy truck with the wrong, passenger car fluid, will result in fluid failure because normal ps fluid does not have the high pressure additive chemicals that are in the correct atf. The wrong fluid will not lubricate the steering pump or rack in operation, especially at heavy loads, and cause excessive metal-to-metal wear and probably longer term steering failure which can result in accident or death. This further could be a deliberate fraud, as the un-knowing vehicle owner would see system failure at some time in the future without being able to link the steering failure to installing the wrong fluid. Death wobble severe steering problems occur with this vehicle. Especially when hitting even a slight bump in the road. When pulling a trailer across a bridge, it became so severe that the truck and trailer changed lanes and I had no control. This problem occurs regularly and is a very dangerous situation!.
[xxx] . My truck has started the death wobble. Driving on interstate and if I hit uneven paving steering wheel and front of truck shakes extremely rough, causing me to hit the breaksand bring my speed down to 40mph or less, in traffic is dangerous information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. I have had this truck for 7 years and bought it with 35k. It now has 150k. This week ([xxx])I finally experienced the notorious “death wobble” at 60 mph in atlanta, GA with my wife & daughter in the truck. This is a very scary situation when you’re going down the road with traffic behind you at 70 plus mph and the steering wheel starts shaking violently after going over a bump on the highway. I feared that we were going to be in an accident at that time. I was defenseless at that moment and in the middle lane of a major highway. I don’t understand how long this has to continue until a recall is considered or Ford is held liable for a problem they have been aware of going back as far as the 2011 model year. I would love for you to see the dash cam footage I have , so you could see what my family and I experienced. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
While driving at 65 mph, towing a fifth wheel camper, encountered a mildly rough section of highway when entire front end began to wobble and shake violently. Slowed the vehicle, maintaining control. When going back up to speed, the same shaking occured again. Also noted a less violent shaking at 45 mph. Took vehicle to have new tires rebalanced but did not change condition much. Inspected front end components. Currently replacing steering damper and shocks in hopes of correcting issue. All other components new or nearly new (3 years) with no issues. Vehicle and components can be inspected, and all replaced parts will be kept for inspection if required. Safety of my vehicle and others on busy highway could have been compromised had I not slowed and maintained control. The problem is being dealt with by me, as I do most maintenance on vehicle. The vehicle has not been seen or inspected by others except by tire mechanic who noted no obvious issues but did re-balance all tires. There was no advance warning of a failure or compromise.

When traveling this past weekend at 60-65mph, after crossing a small bump in the road, my truck lost control and vibrated into the oncoming lane by more than 50%. My truck continued left while I held the steering wheel to the right. This is not the first time this has happened, but always happens when traveling at highway speeds. This time, however, was the most drastic and scariest loss of control we have experienced. At the same time, I was hauling our horses which made for an even more dangerous situation. It was very nerve-wracking. Thankfully, no one was in the oncoming lane in that spot at that moment. I have experienced this loss of control multiple times after hitting small bumps/ripples in the road, some bumps so small that you can't see them. . . Only feel them when the truck reacts. I spoke with an agent (diane) at Ford and have an appointment with byrd kultgen Ford next Tuesday. The vehicle has not be inspected at this time. There have been no warning lamps/messages with this issue. This problem only presents itself at highway speeds (above 50mph) which I only drive one weekend per month. . . Otherwise, I stay local at regular city speeds (30-50). This problem was first noticed about year ago, but I wasn't sure at the time if it was the road or the truck. As the months have passed, along with how bad we experienced it this past weekend and googling information about others with this same issue, it is definitely the truck.
Death wobble. Was driving speed limit of 65mph and vehicle started a violent, uncontrollable shuddering and bouncing movement to the left almost hitting the dividing wall on the interstate. I had little control over steering of vehicle and was barely able to avoid slamming into wall. Finally got vehicle stopped. Has happened before at lower speed. Has happened several times before with less violent shuddering after hitting bumps in roadway. Now understand how very dangerous and scary the less severe incidents have been after this latest incident!.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-250. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at speeds over 50 mph, the vehicle began shaking violently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the pitman arm, steering damper, track bar, and drag link needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 112,600.
As I was driving on the freeway at 65 mph the vehicle started shaking uncontrollably. I slowed my speed to 55 mph and it finally stopped. I attempted to return to 65 mph again and it started shaking even worse. I pulled off at the next exit examined the truck and it looked fine. I just drove it home at 50 mph. No warning lights or maintenance lights came on.
Driving around a light curve on a highway at posted limit of 60mph, had a severe death wobble. It did it again around a second curve as I was attempting to slow down.
Driving appoximately 50mph and hit a bump and the truck went into the death wobble and narrowly avoided a roll over.
Death wobble at speeds greater than 46 mph. I have to come to a complete stop to make it stop. I almost got rear ended by a semi before I could get off the interstate on the shoulder. My vehicle is a 2014 but I have experienced this several times since I bought it new. Took it to my local Ford dealer to see if they can do anything to fix it. It’s really dangerous when it happens on a busy interstate. The front end sounds like it’s coming apart and steering is impossible when it happens.
Steering stabilizer bushing fail causing the shock to fall and rub a hole in the shock body and loose its fluid causing a death wobble in the steering wheel.
